Adding Sub Albums

I know you can create albums in iPhoto, is there a way to create sub albums? Like if I went to China and saw several different cities, can I create one album entitled "China" and under that create one for each City I went to? Im trying to keep my albums bar from having 900 albums every time I travel/

How does someone have folders within folders then in iphoto? I have been trying to figure it out but every time I create a new album it just makes a completely new folder, not one under an album aready created.
Creating an album will never create a folder - you must create a folder
Then you can put albums or other folders in the newly created folder
F O L D E R S and A L B U M S are not the same - they are totally different and are created individually
You can have folders which hold albums or other folders
So you could have a folder - Asia
And inside that folder a folder - China and a folder Japan
And inside each of those folders for cities
and inside each of those albums for specific attractions
Or you can do it with Keywords and smart albums

  • Sub albums in iPhoto?

How to create sub albums in iPhoto?

I use Events simply as big buckets of Photos: Spring 08, July - Nov 06 are typical Events in my Library. I use keywords and Smart Albums extensively. I title the pics broadly.
    I keyword on a
    Who
    What
Where basis (The When is in the photos's Exif metadata). I also rate the pics on a 1 - 5 star basis.
Using this system I can find pretty much find any pic in my 50k library in a couple of seconds.
So, for example, I have a batch of pics titled 'Seattle 08' and a  typical keywording might include: John, Anne, Landscape, mountain, trees, snow. With a rating included it's so very easy to find the best pics we took at Mount Rainier.
    File -> New Smart Album
    set it to 'All"
    title contains Seattle
    keyword is mountain
    keyword is snow
    rating is 5 stars
Or, want a chronological album of John from birth to today?
    New Smart Album
    Keyword is John
Set the View options to Sort By Date Ascending
    Want only the best pics?
add Rating is greater than 4 stars
The best thing about this system is that it's dynamic. If I add 50 more pics of John  to the Library tomorrow, as I keyword and rate them they are added to the Smart Album.
In the end, organisation is about finding the pics. The point is to make locating that pic or batch of pics findable fast. This system works for me.

  • SMART PLAYLISTS: ORGANIZING BY DATE ADDED & KEEPING ALBUM TRKS IN ORD

    Dear Knowledgeable Users of iPod:
I would like to create a Smart Playlist that will do the 2 following things when I listen to music in my iPod:
    1) Play albums in the order of date added
    (I solved this one)
    2) Play the songs in the order they come on the album
    (Couldn't solve this...)
Summary: playing music in the order it was added to the library AND maintaing the original track order of the albums...
Is this to much to ask, it seems pretty practical-
In an attempt to accomplish this, I made a Smart Playist & selected:
Date Added: In the last 24 months
-This solved the 1st problem beautifuly
But now the albums play backwards- (as you know, iTunes rips album's songs in their original order, so when your sort by 'Recently Added', each album plays backwards ! -last song first, first song last and so on- This is problem I want to solve-
    To summerize:
How can listen to my most recently added albums while the songs in their original order?
The point of all this is for listening to music on my iPod-
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated-
    Thanks in advance!

There are some issues to with live updating & smart playlists on iTunes 9, and also those containing mixed content, e.g. Podcasts & Music, though I'm not sure that is the problem here. You should be able to sort the playlist on any heading you like and then use *Copy to Play Order* to control the order that will be synced.

  • IPhoto-creating albums and sub-albums

is it possible to create an album with sub albums?  For example, i travel to Italy and would like an album of italy but would like to organize specific tours into sub-albums.

You can NOT nest albums - read my reply
Folders hold albums and other folders - so you create an italy folder and put the spcific tour albums in it - you could have a Europe folder with Italy and other country folders in it and then albums in each - etc
Folders hold albums - albums can not hold anything except photos
Nothing in my reply said anything about putting albums in albums - you can not - it said you make folders and put albums in the folders - and you can put folders in folders
Make a Europe folder - drag the Italy album to it - then drag the Spain album to it - continue as you please

  • Albums and sub-albums

I would like to create an album ie: South Dakota and inside that heading I would like to list the places we have been ie: Mt. Rushmore, Spearfish Canyon, Reptile Gardens etc.
Can this be done? I tried to make sub-albums but did not see a way.
    Thanks,
    Sue

So it is better to set up everything in iPhoto first I take it.
I would thing so in order for you to know exactly which albums should be grouped together in an iWeb page. In iPhoto you can create a folder in the left hand pane and add all the albums that would related to that one, i.e. South Dakota. In that folder add all of the albums you would want to be on the SD page in iWeb.
To add new photos in a new photos page, i.e. the iWeb component of iPhoto's album, you would drag them into the photo's page for that album in iWeb. You can also add them to the iPhoto album so you're synced with iWeb.
It probably would help if you made a graphical layout of the site showing the subject pages (South Dakota) and then the various photo pages below it.
This screenshot below is what the iPhoto album page that I linked to earlier looks like in iWeb. The iPhoto Album page started out as a blank layout (not an album layout) and the two photo pages were created when I dragged the two albums from iPhoto onto it via the Media Browser:

  • I have just added an album to my iTunes from a CD. But the tracks are now displayed in 2 places in my iTunes library. How do I consolidate them into a single album?

I have just added an album to my iTunes from a CD. But the tracks are now displayed in 2 places in my iTunes library -- as if I had downloaded 2 seperate albums. How do I consolidate them into a single album in my iTunes?

Did you use the same method to add each of the six albums to your library?  With some of iTunes configuration options, some imports (CDs, Store purchase, use of the Automatically add to iTunes folder) will go into the standard media folder location, but the other methods to add media files already on your PC (Add File to Library..., Add Folder to Library..., drag and drop) will leave the files in their original spot.
The other factor that may influence where iTunes locates media files is the setting of the "part of a compilation" flag in the media metadata.  When this flag is set iTunes (when configured to organize your media and copy all additions to the media folders) will place files in iTunes Media\Music\Compilations\album_title rather than iTunes Media\Music\artist_name\album_title.

  • Advanced,, Adding "Get Album Artwork"

Under Advanced,, Adding "Get Album Artwork".........
Does this feature only look for artwork of the items Highlighted???
    1) Seems when I do this, I see a lot more songs being searched than the few I've selected. (So I stop right away.)
    2) Will this feature replace artwork already there?
    3) Which artwork would be selected for multiple albums; oldest - newest etc.
    Thanks for any help

    Thanks for reply
I have lots of before iTunes MPS's And lots of ripped CD's. So the source is not known (no title).
But the same songs are on numerous CD's today. I am now catching up on a few thousand picts but would prefer an artist picture from a CD / LP and selectable. I dont want iTunes to fill in things throughout my whole collection.
Now that I think about it,,, I dont think it will work at all if there is no title. And I filled the Album field with other info. So I'm out of luck and answered my own question I suspect.

Can't add albums in library to iPhone.

  • Creating sub-albums in albums

How can I create a sub-album within a main album? Example: I have created an album entitled "Family" and have created other albums for each family member but I cannot get them to appear in the main "Family" album.
    Thanks for your help.
    Vernon

    You can't.
The trick is to create a Folder called Family, and drag the albums for each member to the Folder.
    (File -> New Folder)
So, click on the Folder called Family - see all the family pics
Select one of the Albums inside the Folder to see only the 'Dad' pics or 'Mom' pics as you choose.

  • TS1815 I just added an album I uploaded from my turntable and there are no tabs for artwork or lyrics to add. Any suggestions?

I just added an album to Itunes that I uploaded from my turntable and there are no tabs for artwork or lyrics to add.  Any suggestions, please?  Thanks.

Select album or individual tracks: Control click > Get Info.

  • IMporting multiple albums at once: sort on date added AND album or artist

When importing multiple albums at once, iTunes ads them in the library in an all mixed up order.
This makes it very annoying to change song info. I have to multi-select songs from the same album (clicking while pressing the control button) and then change stuff.
    1. Why can't iTunes automaticaly keep tracks from the same album together when adding new music from multiple albums?
    2. Why can't we sort by added date AND another column like artist or album?
    any solutions are very welcome
    greetz

The order iTunes is showing the tracks can be changed. Select the album column heading to get tracks list in album order. Normally within an album the tracks will list in track order when viewing this way.

  • Photos already added in album

    hi all,
i've started this app new and tried to import new photo's to my mediathek. so at this point no problem.
my issue is, that i'm not sure from time to time, if i already add some photo's to new or existing album's. or if they are just added but not attached to one of them. is there any option to check that?
for example mark a photo and then get the information in which album photo is already used? i did not found anything regarding this.
    thanks in advance.

    Ok, this is crazy!
Last night I got ticked about the photo albums not working so I deleted a bunch of albums I previously made. I think I had already run Disk Utilities and rebooted. Anyway, when I left it last night it was NOT working.
Tonight I was checking here for replies and went to iPhoto and now the album shows 302 photos! And they are playing on Apple TV.
    I give up.
Glad it's working. Must have been all the views here in the forum.

  • IPhoto 6 consistently crashes after adding smart albums

Due to which I am attributing my problem to human error.
    My error.
    My problem is this.
I take a lot of pictures for work and would like to use smart albums to seperate my photos. I've tried to set them up so that one would contain all the ones for all the stores I'm involved with. Then four others that will separate those pictures into the specific store.
They were working just fine. Then today I added the last two for the individual stores and the program keeps crashing. I've started with a fresh library and reimported twice (a pain to figure which photos I've adjusted and manipulated and the originals) and everything seemed okay.
But after I add the smart albums and quit the app, it won't reopen.

    Ian:
Are those the real titles of your smart albums? If not are you using any special characters in them?
