Adding Text to Photos in Aperture?

Is there a way in Aperture to type text on a photo? I know that you can do it with the Books Function, Exporting to Photoshop, or apply a watermark during Export, but is there a way to do it in the adjustments panel or something like that?

  • Adding text to photo

I would like to add text to photos - that is have the text appear on the photo itself. Can I do this with iphoto?
    Thanks, M.

Not easily with iPhoto only, but Martin S. has directions for doing so here:
    http://simnet.is/klipklap/iphoto/adding-text/
Rather easier is to use an external editor for the job: starting with free and working up:
    Seashore
    Graphic Coverter
    Acorn
    Photoshop Elements
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.

  • Text to photo in Aperture like in Preview?

Is it possible using Aperture to Add text to a phoo. If so, could someone tell me how?

Can not figure this out I have no option to add to photo with that
Could you walk me thru it?
I also need some advise on taking some photo's that I scanned from my honeymoon in 1984 in Hawaii and change the date and time. I keep getting a message that the format will not allow it (working with .jpg). Should I save scanned using .tiff? I have hundreds of them so doing a batch change would be very time saving

  • Problem with adding text to photos in PE6 on my iMac

I can't seem to add text to any photo. I have a new iMac, installed PE6, and all other features seem to be working fine. I even reset all tools to default just to be sure I didn't tweak something. When I click on the Text tool and click on a photo, a small square appears (almost like a dot) and nothing appears when I type...however a new Text layer appears in the layer manager. Doesn't matter how large I make the text...it does not show up. Tried rearranging the layers..every trick I could think of. Anyone else ever have this problem?? Any suggestions greatly appreciated! I really hope I'm just have a serious brain twitch here and that's it's not a PE issue. Never had this problem with any Photoshop programs on my PC...
    Thanks!

    Hi Barbara
Thanks for your response. I am trying to add text to cropped and edited photos, they are 4x5 and 300dpi. I went ahead and tried increasing font size to 200, still nothing. I've tried all types of images, from my original raw versions to ones edited down to web size, to no avail.
I'm beginning to feel like I'm banging my head against the wall :)

  • Adding Text to photos in FCPX

    Hi
I am wondering how you add text to imported photos on the timeline.  I have tried drag and dropping a title over the photo, but it just comes up with a black option box asking if i want to replace, etc the photo.

Simply drag the Custom title onto the "Track" above your video and type the name.

  • Adding captions to photos in Aperture 3

    Hi All,
I would like yo know if anyone out there has figured out a way to add captions to photos. I am a photographer using Aperture 3, and must be able to send photos to the newspaper with a caption along the bottom left of the photo. I would greatly appreciate the help.
    Thanks,
    George

    Ernie:
While it's possible to open an image directly from Aperture 3, or which was exported from Aperture 3, what you see will vary depending on what happens in between the time you export from Aperture 3 and open with the other application. For instance. If you opened directly into Photoshop CS4, then
There is a link about 1/2 down the Aperture 3 Metadata Issues page *(http://www.controlledvocabulary.com/imagedatabases/aperture3.html)* that is labeled, "Aperture 3 Exported Fields" which will take you to a spreadsheet showing you just all of the options I could find.
For instance, if you were to have opened the file directly from Aperture 3 (using the +*"open in external editor"*+ option), and then saved the file as a TIFF or PSD file, you would certainly see the caption field. However, if you save the file as a TIFF you will find that information in the following fields is not preserved: *ISO Country Code, Intellectual genre, Location, Rights Usage Terms, IPTC Subject Code*. If the image had GPS info, then that will not be preserved either, but that is a problem with Adobe Photoshop and the TIFF file format (a known issue that should be corrected in CS5).
If you opened in an external editor and saved as a PSD file, then the result is even worse. In addition to the five fields above, you also lose all of the *IPTC Core Creator Contact Info(CCI)fields (CCI: City, CCI:Country, CCI: Address, CCI: Postal Code,CCI: State/Province, CCI: Emails, CCI: Phones, CCI: WebURLs) as well as the IPTC Scene* field. That GPS information is retained is but small compensation.
If you export files from Aperture 3 as a JPEG or TIFF file, then th caption field will still visible, but a number of the same fields mentioned above will not be preserved.
If it were at least consistent across file format, regardless of method used to get the files out, that would be one thing, but the results are so varied it would push me to the edge of madness trying to compensate and correct after the fact. If you export, and then modify some of the metadata in Bridge, it's possible to retain more of the metadata, but this is a kludge that you have to remember to do each time after you export.
And this is even before mentioning the lack of support for things like star ratings!
If you dig a little deeper, you'll see there are problems. Granted if you are not a professional, don't use many of the fields mentioned, and don't share your images with others this may not matter much to you. However, for anyone wishing to use Aperture professionally these are very important issues that can not be disregarded.

  • When importing photos from aperture photos are blurry

I have been making a video and up to now no problems. Then today i was working on it and when i started adding some more photos from aperture they were fuzzy and blurry.
In aperture they are crisp and clear but the minute i put them in imovie they are blurry and not useable.
I have imported photos from aperture and iphoto both and had no issues so not sure what is going on today.

I think I just figured this out.
Go into Aperture preferences and go to "previews" tab.  Set "photo preview" to "don't limit" and turn the quality all the way up.  Then select all your photos, go to the "photos" menu, hold down the option key and click "generate previews".
It appears that the library sharing is just using the generated previews from Aperture which default to poor quality.  You need to turn up the quality and then force a re-render of all your previews.  iMovie should pick this up (but won't update your slideshow...).
Yeah, I'm pretty disappointed by those defaults.   Wasted hours of my time as I rebuilt the slideshow with better versions of my photos.
    Hope that helped.

  • Adding Text to a photo...Need help

I'm new to Adobe Photoshop Elements 7. I'm following the instructions for adding text to a photo, but I can't see what I'm typing. I can see the cursur, but nothing else. I can see the text in the Layer, but not on the photo. Please help.

Check the font size in the options bar. If it's really small you won't see it.
Look in your layer's palette and insure your text is in a layer located above the photo in the stack.
You might also check your image's resolution in the Image Size dialog. I've seen a couple of posts where someone changes the resolution to 1 with resample turned off...then can't see the text because it's too small even when they have large numbers inserted in the font size box.

  • Adding text to a photo in iphoto

How do you add text to a smart album photo?  Also, when syncing to my iphone, I want the text to appear.  I am building a tropical plant field guide.

iPhoto has no capability of adding text onto an image.  For that you'll need a 3rd party image editor setup as the  external editor in iPhoto.
Some Image Editors that support  layers:
    Photoshop Elements 11 for Mac - $79
    Rainbow Painter - $30
    Imagerie - $38
    Acorn - $50
    Pixelmator - $60
    Seashore - Free
    Portraits and Prints - Free
    GIMP for Mac - Free

  • I'm adding text to a photo.. Trying to get an S to lay down

I'm adding text to a photo and can't get an S to lay down?

I'm guessing on what you are trying to do, to some extent, but see if this helps.  Your photograph will have a horizon, and perspective.  For instance, if there are any buildings in the image, lines drawn through the top and bottom edges of the building, and extended to the horizon, will always intersect at the same point.  If you lay down some guides as shown in this illustration, and overlay some perspective lines with a 1 pixel line, then use the resulting box to Free transform the letter S to.
It is _much_ easier if you Rasterize the text layer, because that will cause the Free Transform bounding box and handles, to fit tightly around the text.  Otherwise the bounding box will be larger than the text to include descenders and risers for the font used.
So with guides and guide lines in place, and the text rasterized, use Free Transform, and hold down the Ctrl (Cmd) key will dragging the corner handles to the intersect points.
In the illustration I have made a nice simple concentric perspective, but that probably won't be the case in your image.  But if you use clues from the image, you will be able to work out its true perspective.  In fact I rarely resort to using guides, and just do it by eye.
A little tip when doing this is to make the object a Smart Object before using Free Transform.  The reason is if you decide to tweak the perspective and use FT a second time, with an SO layer the handles will still be in the corners.  A normal layer will now have the FT handles square to the document edges, which makes it much more difficult to refine the shape.
BTW  Thanks for asking a proper, interesting, question about using Photoshop, as opposed to the usual 'My dog has eaten my serial number' posts.

  • Does Added Text Resolution Match Photo Resolution

I am adding text to some screen grabs from an old 8mm movie.  The movie resolution is not very high.  When I add text to the screen shots, they are very low resolution.
I am assuming that the text resolution is simply matching that of the screen grab.  Is there anyway to set the text resolution different from that of the photo from the screen capture?

I will piggy back on this discussion.  I have discovered that, although the image resolution is inconsequential when sizing images by pixel dimensions, it still matters if you decide to add copyright information with the type tool.
e.g. I have received images from several people, all sized to 1024 pixels in width, but I wanted to add their names to the front of the images before putting the images into a slideshow.  I quickly discovered that, although the images are of identical size when viewed, the names applied vary in size according to the resolution of the image.
Since different makes of cameras assign a different resolution to images taken with that camera, I needed to change the resolution of the images to all be the same before I could add names that appear as the same size.  This came as a surprise to me.

  • Adding Text to Your Photo

I am trying to add text onto my photo but can not find the function. Is this allowable?

And Martin S has come up with a way to do this using iPhoto as a work around - see http://simnet.is/klipklap/iphoto/adding-text/
Hi Larry, I was following your step by step guide for adding text to iphoto.
Sorry - as I said Martin S developed and posted this workflow - I only reported it - I personally have never used it - I do know that some others have used it successfully
Also any of the photo editors on the web page I referenced in my original post will add text

  • Adding text to a photo

i'm currently trying to make a simple cd cover using iPhoto to add to itunes. Is there any way i could add text to a photo that i have in the iPhoto library?

The Preview method puts the text in a box with a yellow background. If that's not what you want, I suggest you look at a number of 3rd party image editor. The best, IMO, is Photoshop Elements for Mac. It not only can do text on photos, it can curve the text and do other advanced editing. Amazon.com often has deals on it for around $80.
There's also GraphicConverter and others. Go to VersionTracker.com and do a search for "image editor" to get a number of candidates.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Adding tex to photo

    Hi Dear All;
I am using Aperture 3.4.5 so I would like to add tex on the photos as my name.

This function is not built into Aperture. You will need to install a 3rd party plugin. The app of choice here is BorderFX . It is free and has a lot of useful features in addition to adding text to images.
