Adding texture to a drawing in photoshop

I have a drawing that I did on Illustrator, that I want to change the texture on the drawing (in photoshop) to make it look like webbing (adding a weave pattern) I was told that I need to do this through the paintbrush, but I need a little more explanation.

As our Bruce has just told you, there are so many ways to add texture.  Strangely, none of the obvious methods would use the paint brush.  Also, as suggested by our Bruce, it depends entirely on what you want to do, and a scale of any patten involved.
The denim patten in this was done using the Half Tone filter, for instance.
There are weave pattens available from Scripted Fill if you have CC, or a great tool to experiment with overlaying textures, is to install the free Flypaper Textures extension by Russell Brown.

    Hi
The value of the Channel Strip volume etc is not stored within the C Strip setting, as you have discovered.
If you really wanted, you could add a Gain plug to the strip, with it set to give the correct output level with the Fader set to 0
(Or just set the fader manually in MS)

  • How can I draw in Photoshop CS6 with a touchscreen?

I recently got an Asus Q551L laptop with touchscreen and running on Windows 8.1 and cannot use the touchscreen to draw in Photoshop CS6. I can use it to choose a tool but when I drag my finger across a layer, it does not draw unless I start in the gray area surrounding the image. I have tested a few programs including Microsoft Paint and Illustrator CS6 and I can start drawing in the middle of the image like what I wanted; it's only Photoshop with this problem of not being able to draw unless I start at the edge. So how can I fix this?

Photoshop relies on the pressure sensitivity that is so popular with the Wacom tablets. This means that it ignores the capacitive pen when drawing. But seams to work fine for other features like accessing the UI buttons. I am not sure how this helps you since I do not know what pens will work on your screen. But maybe this will at least point you in the right direction.

  • Exporting from Adobe Draw to Photoshop?

When I save a Adobe Draw file to Creative Cloud it saves in the png or jpeg format and much too low rez for me to actually use.  Supposedly I can send Adobe Draw files straight to Photoshop CC without going through Creative Cloud first?  I own Photoshop CS4, but before I upgrade to Photoshop CC I want to know what will happen when I try to open my Adobe Draw files in Photoshop CC.  I need resolutions of at least 800 dpi to make the Adobe Draw files useful to me.  Can you export from Draw to Photoshop CC in whatever resolution you want, or will it export in a particular resolution?

Thanks.  That's not high enough rez for me, but it's good to know.
I assume if I open it in Illustrator first I could get a final product that's higher rez?  (I've never used Illustrator before, so this would be open territory for me.)
For the record, I like the way Adobe Ideas lets me export better.

  • Where can I get the texture file puzzle.psd for Photoshop CS4?

Does anyone know where I can get the texture file puzzle.psd for Photoshop CS4?  I searched the web and got lots of links but none of them results in me downloading the puzzle.psd file.

Thanks for pointing to this free puzzle action!  I ended up discovering several other great actions (both commercial and free) that I have a use for on the website of the puzzle action author.

  • How to draw using photoshop?

    Hi
I am an iphone developer and I need to develop some images for my iphone application. Images like a background with gradient, icons, etc.
I am absolutely new to drawing and photoshop and was hoping if someone can guide me in the right direction.
First, is Photoshop the right tool for this kind of stuff? There are so many products and I do not know which one is right for me.
Can someone give me a link to a book or document where I can learn the basics of drawing using photoshop? Many books that i saw, all talked about working with photographs. But all i am interested in is drawing icons for iPhone applications.
    Thanks
    Anuj

Anuj, it seems that we cross posted: I posted as you were typing your answer, and you might have missed my post number 3 in this thread.

  • How to put a texture on a selection in photoshop cs5

so I have my selection made and saved around this apple in the center of the picture. What I want to do is, put a crumpled paper texture on the apple and make it look like its made of a pice of crumpled paper. Also i want to make the selection colord and the rest of the picture black and white. How do i do this?

    Hello!
Once you've got your selection, invert it. PC:(CTRL+SHIFT+I) Mac: (CMD+Shift+I) or select>inverse.
Bring the crumpled paper as a new layer, make sure you get the selection back PC: (CTRL+Shift+D) Mac: (CMD+Shift+D) or select>reselect, then click the add a layer mask icon on the bottom of the layers panel.
To make selective desaturation, get the selection active per the previous shortcuts, then add a B&W adjustment layer, and it will respect the selection. If the layer mask is the opposite of what you want, CTRL+I/CMD+I will invert its values.

  • Can I do freehand drawing in Photoshop Elements 12?

Can anyone please enlighten me as to what to do or what 'cheaper' options I have in order to do freehand writing??? I have a MacBook Pro laptop. Thanks heaps.

    ATR,
Did you watch the Adobe TV video tutorial that I post earlier on here
"Save Time with Powerful Background Rendering Using Media Encoder"?
Yes. I am familiar with that AdobeTV tutorial. Unfortunately, the term used, "render," is a holdover from After Effects. If you listen to the early part, and observe the choice to send the Timeline's Sequence(s) to AME, you will see that the choice is "Export." This "background rendering" is NOT the Rendering of the Timeline's Sequence(s) for smoothest playback (hitting the Enter/Return key). It is for Export/Publish+Share, or outputting a file from the Timeline's Sequence(s).
As I mentioned in my previous Reply, there ARE some additional benefits to using AME w/ MPE/CUDA with certain media, and Effects. Note the mention of the nVidia Quadro cards for maximum quality, with little slowdown, regardless of the pop-up warning.
Where AME comes into play, with PrPro, is that while it is outputting (Exporting/Publishing+Sharing) the file, PrPro is still active for additional editing. With an overnight output, there is no need to do other editing, as the computer is only involved in one operation - outputting the Timeline's Sequence(s).
Also, as noted in the tutorial, one can load AME's queue with the required Sequence(s), and then do multiple output files, to different formats/CODEC's, all in one operation. That is useful, where one needs to deliver several variations of the same Sequence - something that PrE cannot do - it's one format/setting, at a time.
Hope that this clarifies what AME is being used for, and what it's doing. The potential for confusion on "Rendering" vs "rendering" is obvious. As "Rendering" is a term used in Premiere (both Pro & Elements), for creating files (proxy files, if you will) for smoothest playback of a Timeline/Sequence, to use the term "rendering," from After Effects (and some other common NLE programs), is probably not the ultimate choice here.

  • Change Color Selecting Layers in PSE10 for a Drawing from Photoshop CS6 (non-photo) .PSD file?

    Hi Everyone,
I have a drawing that was created in Photoshop CS6 (non-photo) and saved as a .PSD file.  I am able to open the file in PSE10 and see the drawing and select the layers.  I am having trouble with figuring out how to change the colors on each layer in PSE10.  When I select a layer where do I go to change the color of that layer?  Can this be done in PSE10 as this a drawing created in Photoshop CS6 and not a photo?
    TIA,
    ClearInk8

I'm not sure what I am doing wrong.
Here are the steps I have tried.
I made sure the RGB Color (Image>Mode) was selected.
    I selected the star layer
Next I selected Layer>Created Clipping Mask
Then I selected Color blend mode
    Then I selected Solid Color
When I choose a color the entire canvas fills with the solid color and covers up the drawing.
    What step am I missing?
The small red square outline you have next to the orange color box in the color fill layer I am not see this small icon.

  • Adding a new Epson scanner to Photoshop CS5.1 on LION computer

We just recently (today, in fact) installed a new Epon flatbed scanner on an iMac running MAC OS 10.7.2.  It already had Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 on it.  It seems that no matter what we do, when we click on File on go to Import, the scanner option is not there.  I am not an experienced Photoshop user (or an experienced Mac person), I am going by what the end user tells me should be there and how its supposed to work.  She needs to be able to scan from the new scanner in Photoshop.  Is there documentation somewhere that tells us how to get Photoshop to "see" the scanner.
The computer is a brand new (a month old) iMac that came with LION.  We had to replace to replace the old scanner becsause it was not supported in LION (supposedly the one we just bought is).

Are there scanners out there that Photoshop CS5.1 version 12.1 for Macintosh will just recognize without all the intervention by an I.T. person.  Will Photoshop allow scanning from within the application with any scanner?  (the user thinks we should just get another scanner)
It's important to understand that scanning into Photoshop is not directly between Photoshop and the scanner (hardware). The entire process depends on what scanning software mediates between Photoshop and the scanner. Photoshop just sits there and waits for software to hand it an image. The scanner just sits there and waits for some software to ask for a scan. So it should not be necessary to change the scanner itself. Instead, try changing the scanning software.
When the software that comes with the scanner doesn't do what someone wants, sometimes they turn to third-party scanning software. I use VueScan, which has historically run as a separate application, but recently added the option to be launched from within Photoshop as a plug-in and return the image straight into Photoshop, just like she wants. As long as your scanner is on the supported list, this is a possible solution. But it'll cost a little money.
VueScan is an good example of how critical software is to scanning. Many people use VueScan to get around limitations of the bundled software. Sometimes they want more features than the scanner's own software came with. Sometimes they need it because the bundled software no longer works in the latest Mac or Windows OS, so it lets people keep running old scanners for many more years, instead of having to buy a new one.

  • Drawing Lines Photoshop CS4 using JavaScript

I am new to javascript and have read a manuel on the basics of javascript in regards to photoshop. I was just wondering how to draw a straight line using javascript. Thanks.

You could start by looking at the sample scripts that ship with photoshop to see a coding sample of stroking a selection. Then look at the doc on making selection and paths etc.

// Create a stroke around the current selection.

    #target photoshop
// in case we double clicked the file
    app.bringToFront();
    // debug level: 0-2 (0:disable, 1:break on error, 2:break at beginning)

  • Adobe Paper Texture Pro and PSCC2014 and adding textures

I have the Adobe Paper Texture Pro panel added. I also added some texture folders of my own. However; I have no scroll bar along the side as shown in the video tutorial. The only textures available to use are the ones in the last folder added. Is there a way to uninstall and reinstall. Or is there a fix for this? I am on a Mac.

Yes! 10 of the textures begin with Fly_Edges and that helped me find them all. Thank you. So now it looks like, if additional textures are to be added, a workaround is still needed though. Playing around with this extension for a few minutes, I found that, if you add a texture to the folder that had already been processed, and a thumbnails subfolder exists, the extension will not re-process. It will simply use the thumbnails already there and won't look for any new textures. To work around this (and maybe there's an easier way), I had to delete the thumbnails subfolder. That way, it reprocessed the textures folder and found the new texture(s). However, the re-processing can take some time (about 40 seconds on my computer for 58 textures; hundreds or thousands can take a considerable amount of time although I'm not sure if there is a limit on the number of textures it can handle). You can also place the new textures in a separate folder and have the extension "add" those. It will replace the current textures with the new ones but create a thumbnail for the new textures as well. Then you can copy the new textures to the old textures folder and the new thumbnails to the old textures subfolder and then have the extension add the old textures folder back. That way the Thumbnails do not have to be re-created. Or, you can set up an action in PS that will reduce the new texture to 35 pixels square (the size of the thumbnails), save that to the Thumbnails subfolder the extension is using and move the new textures to the textures folder that the extension is using as well. The new textures will appear there the next time you open the extension. All these will work but none of them is particularly easy. You would think that a company like Adobe would simply just get it right.

  • Trackpad unable to "draw" in photoshop

Here's my deal.  After upgrading to Yosemite on my macbook air 2011-2012 I can no longer "draw" in adobe photoshop. clicking and dragging does not work at all. I can click to start "drawing" but I can not move my finger while clicked.  I spent hours uninstalling and reinstalling the software only to find that it works fine with a USB mouse which rules out the software.  How can I fix this?

Lightroom will open CS3, and CS3 will load image for 'Edit a Copy' or 'Edit Original'. But 'Edit a copy with Lightroom Adjustment' does NOT load the image in CS3 at all.

If your using Free Transform, then look at the Interpolation settings in the tool options bar
Try one of the Bicubic settings
(i have it set to Bicubic)
For rotating the Canvas look at the Image Interpolation settings under Photoshop (Edit)>Preferences>General and use one of the Bicubic settings
The standard Bicubic setting is a good all around setting
