Adding tracks

Hi!
Just downloaded Garageband '11 upgrade from iTunes store.  However, when I go to create a new project it doesn't allow me to add any new tracks.  Also when creating a "guitar track"  it doesn't recognize sound (coming from m-audio fast track usb).  My older files work fine, however, I can't add new tracks to those either.  any help is greatly appreciated.  thanks!
Any solutions?

make sure the correct input source is selected in Track "i"nfo (click the "edit" button, then click the amp)

  • Majority of recently added tracks won't sync (error -50); previously added tracks sync fine

Argh. I have a 5th Gen iPod Classic (80GB) and, until very recently, it's been functioning quite well.  Now I am getting error "'iTunes could not copy {song name} to the iPod {iPod name} because an unknown error occured (-50)." when trying to sync songs I have recently added to iTunes from several sources.  However, a few recently added tracks successfully synced.
In particular, there are numerous albums and songs recently purchased from Amazon that do not sync, although they play fine in iTunes.  In addition, a free song downloaded from Last.FM does not sync.  I also tried ripping a CD to AAC, and the majority of the songs do not sync.  (The first time I tried to sync the songs ripped from CD, only one track synced.  The second time, a second track synced as well.  36 additional tracks have failed to sync).
Note that there is nothing different about the format (codec, bitrate) of these newly added tracks.  Tracks added a month or so ago with identical specs and from the same sources were able to sync without a problem.
A free song downladed today from the iTunes store did sync, however.
I am on XP SP3 (up to date) and have tried all of the following:
    * Updating iTunes to latest version (10.6.3.25)
    * Uninstalling then reinstalling iTunes
    * Updating firmware on my iPod (was 1.2, upgraded to 1.3)
    * Performing "Restore" on iPod and freshly re-syncing all tracks
    * Enabling the "Enable disk use" option on the iPod
    * Updating the Windows registry as directed in this tech bulletin: <http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1539>
    * Error checked the iPod using the Windows "Error-checking" utility (under Properties-->Tools) - no errors reported.
    Further reference:
    * "Convert higher bit rate songs to (rate) AAC" is not enabled on the iPod.
    * There is still about 32GB free on the iPod after syncing all of my library except the new tracks
    * Only antivirus software installed is Microsoft Security Essentials, which is up to date and reports no infections
What is going on??  Approximately 9600+ tracks that were added to iTunes before my recent difficulties (including tracks from many different sources) synced flawlessly when I performed the Restore.  The only tracks creating the problem are tracks added very recently to iTunes.
Is it possible that my iTunes library is corrupt?  Can I rebuild or repair it without losing anything?  Should I follow the steps in this tech bulletin <http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451>?

Okay, I have a partial understanding of the problem, and more importantly a workaround.
I think the Amazon MP3 Downloader was indeed the culprit.  It is configured to automatically add your downloaded tracks to the iTunes library.  I think the most recent version of this application has some kind of bug and did not add the tracks to the library properly.
It is kind of a subtle bug, because the tracks were added well enough to see them and play them in iTunes.  However, I think the filepath that was added to the iTunes library was . . . messed up somehow?  In iTunes, the paths for the offending tracks looked something like this:
    F:/Music/AMAZON~1/BEEGEE~1/NUMBER~1/01-MAS~1.MP3
It is still strange to me is that rebuilding the library did not fix the problem, but regardless, I found a way to get sync working:
    (1) Made sure "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" was enabled under Edit --> Preferences --> Advanced Preferences
    (2) Used File --> Add Folder To Library . . . to add the folder where the Amazon MP3 Downloader put my downloads
This reorganized my Music file into the standard Artist/Album structure.  However, the old, nonworking tracks were still in the library.
    (3) Used File --> Display Duplicates, then sorted by "Album by Artist"
    (4) Manually deleted all the nonworking duplicate entries.  (You can tell which one is the problem--when you click on a problematic entry, an exclamation point in a grey circle will appear next to the track name)
After this, everything synced perfectly, including the remaining tracks I ripped from the CD.  My file paths for the recent Amazon downloads now look like this:
    F:\Music\Bee Gees\Number Ones\01 Massachusetts.mp3
Hope this helps someone else, and I hope the problem is fixed in a future software release from Amazon.

  • No longer able to use previous method for adding tracks and orginizing my library :(

I use to add a few mp3's to my library then sort the library by date added to see the just added tracks at the top [most recent] of that view, well that don't always work since itunes 11. Can anyone explain please? or even offer an alternate method? I know there is now a folder named "Automatically Add to iTunes" is it absolutely necessary that I use that folder? If it is that odd because not everyone is as gifted as I {NOT!} and they might not be able to locate the folder.
    thanks

You can restore much of the look & feel of the previous version with these shortcuts:
CTRL+B to turn on the menu bar.
CTRL+S to turn on the sidebar (your device should be listed here as before).
CTRL+/ to turn on the status bar.
Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library to restore the old search behaviour.
Use View > Hide <Media Kind> in the cloud or Edit > Preferences > Store anduntick Show iTunes in the cloud purchases to hide the cloud items. The second method eliminates the cloud status column (and may allow iTunes to start up quicker).
Use the Songs view and enable (if necessary) the Date Added column, then sort in descending order. Alternatively you could use the Recently Added smart playlist to view your imports.

  • Help!  (Adding tracks problems)

    Help!
Whenever I start off with 8 Audio tracks, and then add more tracks on top of that 8, the original 8th track will not play.
If I add something in the 9th track, that will play, but whatever was in the 8th track won't. If I mute the 9th track, then the 8th WILL play. Adding tracks only affects the 8th track (the last track of the original 8), the other 7 play fine.
    Help!!

You may only have 8 devices defined. Run the Setup Wizard to check:
Logic > Preferences > Start Logic Setup Assistant
Also, make sure you are using:
Track > Create with Next Instrument
since the standard create uses the same as the one you're selecting and that means the behaviour that you've described.

  • Adding tracks to one album?

I have just selected a music folder from my pc and added it to itunes! the problem I have is that a couple of tracks from the album have downloaded separatley from the actual main album and they are showing up as different albums but with the same name? how do I add the couple of rogue tracks into the main album?

You sometimes also have to select all the tracks and choose compilation esp for older MP3's or ones with not 100% clean tags.

  • Trouble with length of measure when adding tracks

I notice sometimes when im starting or doing a project, particularly when adding piano or keyboard tracks, when I go to insert a note, it automatically inserts a note that is like 100000 miles long and extends indefinately even if as expand the track pane. other times this is not a problem at all, which leads me to believe its likely theres some magic button someplace im overlooking time and time again... help!

I'd guess there may be a faulty key on your keyboard - a MIDI note message consists basically of Note On, Note number (pitch), Velocity value and then Note Off (possibly other values for poly pressure for example - not often used), so it looks like there's a Note On and no Note Off.

  • Adding Tracks and being Organized Question?

    Hey All,
Sometimes I download tracks to my desktop or move them over from a zip onto my desktop.
Then I go to put them into a my iTunes library and the tracks are just added into my library on a one by one basis.
What I'd really like is to be able to have the folder organize itself and put it into the appropriate artist/album folder. Is there anyway to do this?
So let's say I've put Coldplay Square One from X&Y into my iTunes folder. Is there anyway to get that to put itself in the right folder?
    Thanks!
    Luke

    Hello VM,
iTunes has a feature that handles what you describe. In preferences, go to the Advanced->General section, and make sure the option to "Keep iTunes Music folder organized" is checked.
Then, iTunes will AUTOMATICALLY keep all the files straight, based on the "Tags" in the files themselves.
From time to time, I have run across files which are "Mis-Tagged" and it is not so good. The fix for that is using the SmartPlaylists in iTunes.
You can create one that will add only "Songs Added on xx/xx/xx". So if you drop a bunch of misc tracks into iTunes, and they are not perfectly tagged, you can use that smartlist to collect them in one place, then go thru them and edit the tagging info. Then when you are done, all is already sorted and stored correctly.

  • Annoyances with adding tracks to playlists

Why is iTunes (12) on windows so weird and inconsistent?
It's not terrible (WMP has big problems of its own) but its puzzlingly random in how the GUI works.  Its like it was designed by several people who didn't talk to each other.
A major example - why are there are two different ways to add a track to a playlist?
(Actually there are three if you include using the main menu, but having a menu bar way and a context menu way is normal windows UI behaviour so that's fair enough, but itunes has two different context menus)
You can right click on the track, or you can left click on the little blob after a track name.
The first method gives you a list of playlists that can't be scrolled using the mouse wheel, and is extremely slow to scroll through (requiring you to click on the tiny arrow at the bottom of the list then hold the mouse button down for ages).  But though the second method can be scrolled more rapidly, because it acknowledges the scroll wheel of the mouse, it doesn't let you add multiple tracks at a time, only the one whose blob you click on gets added, not the other selected ones.
Its weird - why have two different context menus, and then have each of them have different unnecessary limitations?  Neither method is entirely satisfactory and you have to keep deciding which one to use for any given playlisting.  If you want to add to a playlist which is at the end of the alphabet you have to use the blob method because scrolling down to it with the right-click method is tedious in the extreme.  But if you want to add multiple tracks you have to use the right-click 'cos the blob method ignores the other tracks.
Why not just have one _good_ method instead of two bad ones?

I wouldn't be at all surprised if that was the case.
Just three? Don't forget you can also enable the playlists sidebar and use drag & drop or copy & paste.
Suggestions for improvement should go to iTunes Feedback.

  • Itunes 11 ignores ratinga in newly added tracks - why???

I have just removed all the music tracks from my itunes library (running on Windows 7).  Then I added one folder that contained all my songs.
The songs were added but 95% of my ratings are gone.  It looks like only .mp4 files (likely the ones I got from Apple store) have their ratings set properly or as they were set in the metadata of the files.  It looks like all the other (mostly .mp3) files ended up with no ratings.  It took me a lot of time to rate these songs and make sure that the ratings were stored in the metadata of the files.  Now itunes 11 appears not to care about that at all...
Did anyone else notice that, i.e., had the same problem?  What is it?  I'd like to think that I did something wrong but I am affraid that Apple, in its wisodom is, yet again, is doing something that erases weeks of my work.  Why would itunes not read ratings for newly added mp3 files?  Windows Media Player reads the metadata properly for any mp3 or mp4 file added to its library.
Can anyone offer any inside view into this?   Any idea if it is me missing something, or is it a bug in itunes 11 or is it Apple telling me to buy all my music from the Apple store?
    Thanks.

I realized that the mp4 songs that have correct ratings were not really removed from my library - it looks like they are in the cloud.
In short it looks like itunes just ignores the ratings while adding new tracks.  But why???  It is so easy to reset ratings after reading tracks in and so difficult to add them...  What is the logic here...???  Thanks.

  • Manually added tracks put my iPhone over capacity. Now I can't sync. Help!

I have a number of Audiobook I tried to sync to my phone.  I could not find anywhere in the iPhone settings to choose to sync these (anyone know where?).  So I manually added them by dragging them from iTunes onto the iPhone.
However they are very large files and put my iPhone "over capacity".  Now whenever I try to sync I get an error message saying:
"The iPhone “Mr Shiney” cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all of the selected items (additional 7.38 GB required)."
But I can't unselect these files!  They don't appear in the "Manually Added Songs" section of the Music tab.  My phone is stuck in this weird state where I can no longer sync.
I have tried deleting the songs from iTunes.  But this now just says the songs couldn't be found so I still can't sync.
Should I restore from backup?  Won't I lose all my app content?  Any ideas what to do?
My iPhone is a 3G on iOS 4.2.1. iTunes is 10.5.

Have you touched the "More" button (on the iPhone).
    then gone to Audio Books.
    Are they there?
I had an audio book still on my iphone, it survivedf the iOS5 update.
To get rid of it, I plugged iPhone into Mac,
    Go to itunes.
    Click on Iphone in iTunes.
    Go to Books tab,
Scroll down, there is audio books.
    Choose sync selected audio books,
And untick the ones I don;t want.
    Dows this work for you?

  • Manually Adding Track Numbers Doesn't Work!

I would like to make a "custom album" for an artist, a greatest hits designed by me, if you will. The songs are all by a single artist, but come from various sources. Some were purchased from iTunes Music Store, some were imported directly from CDs, some were MP3 files from my old PC, etc. (you get the idea).
Anyway, I select all of the tracks, press Command+I to open up the "Get Info" window. For all the tracks at once, I give the album a name ("Best Of Whomever") and manually enter the tracks (1 of 32, 2 of 32, 3 of 32, etc.) I check everything else to make sure there are no inconsistencies between the tracks, as I want all things to be equal. When I'm done, however, there is inevitably a stubborn track (or two or three) that insists on ignoring its assigned track number and placing itself somewhere else in the list. This happens most often with IMS tracks. It's very frustrating and annoying.
The way around it, of course, is to make a playlist. But without folder support for the iPod, playlists quickly become unmanageable.
So my point is, if I manually assign a track a track number, it should go where it belongs and not wherever it chooses to. (And remember, before I assigned track numbers, I gave all of the tracks the same album name and info as a group, so there are no inconsistencies from track to track, like wierd spaces or misspellings.) I've tried everything and can't seem to solve this problem.

My suggestion would be to ask in the iWork for iOS forum. Many more iOS users there.

  • Adding track numbers to a custom mix

I created an album in iTunes, a collection of various songs from my library. If my album consists of 20 songs, is there any way to get iTunes to automatically assign track numbers based on the order of the songs? For example, the second song in the list I would like to say "Track 2 of 20." I don't want to have to edit each song's info and manually add the track number. I want iTunes to automatically make the third song in the list track 3, the fourth song track 4, etc.
Is there any way to do this?
    Thank you.

You could check Doug's Scripts (just Google and you'll find it) and you might find a script to do this. Otherwise, the only way I know of is to manually input the information.

  • Adding tracks automatically creates playlists

    Help!
I have 47,000 tracks to add to iTunes and when I begin the process, it immediately creates a playlist for each album.  I stop the import immediately and delete the 20 or so playlists that have been created, go back to File > Add to Library, select my folder, click Open and it does the same thing - it adds all of the tracks to my iTunes Music Library AND creates playlists for every collection of tracks it thinks is related!!!!!  You can imagine how out-of-control this would be if I were to import my entire library!!
I've looked through preferences for some "create a playlist for every album I import" or something along those lines but I don't see anything.  I'm running Mac OX 10.6 and iTunes 10.4.
Please let me know what I can do to prevent this from happening!  I want control over my own, personal playlists, which I created, then exported to file, then emptied out my entire Music Library to start over again fresh.  BUT this time, the fresh start is going to cause thousands of playlists to be created on their own.
    Can anybody help me?

You got the correct answer!  I meant to click "Correct" answer to give you the points but I clicked "Helpful" instead because I'm new to the interface and I'm really tired.
That's what it was.  I found the m3u files and moved them to my Playlist folder, then loaded up my library and ba-da-bing!  My music is back.  Thank you!
How can I give you the full "Correct Answer" points?  Moderator??

I've just upgraded to version 8, and low and behold........an issue.
I only get ONE shot at adding tunes to my new playlist. Whatever I drag in to the playlist adds just fine, but if I go back to my library and try and add ANYthing else, nothing whatsoever....it grabs from the library and when I drag it, looks normal and like it's going to go just fine- but when I let go into the playlist, does not add.
