Adding transitions when using side by side effect

I recently found the side by side effect in iMovie '11 and I love it. The only issue is that when I try to add in transitions between clips, the transitions won't show up. If anyone has any idea on what I can do, please let me know. Thanks

well, technically, that is true, although you could fake it a bit, if instead of side by side transitions, you used the picture in picture instead, you can specify a few transitions with that from the gear menu-

When using side buttons, volumes says sound effects

Not sure what happened here. Is it a mistake by a 3 year old or a bug issue. Started about a month ago that when i open apps that have sound the volume goes mute, meaning sound and keyboard and lock too. Even when i close the app down and open say a video type app, there will be no sound. I will push the side buttons and the gray box that should say volume says sound effect. I have already done the reset with holding home and lock buttons, can't remeber how many times. I have also reset the iPad, i have synced it too. Please help

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

To solve some sound problems, just follow these simple steps
1. Go to Settings
2. Tap on General
3. Tap on Reset
4. Tap on Reset All Settings
What this effectively does is to reset some of your Settings to factory default. It’s not a complete removal of settings. It removes all of your preferences for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Do No Disturb, Notifications, General, Sounds, Brightness & Wallpaper and Privacy. It doesn’t affect your data. All of your email accounts will remain intact, as well as any SMS text or iMessages.

Is there a way to control "push" page transitions when using up/down keys to navigate a PDF?

I have a multi-page PDF designed with push page transitions. When using the forward/back arrow keys or the interactive buttons I have designed on the page, the push navigation direction changes whether one is moving forward in the PDF or back. However, if I use the mouse scroll button or up/down arrow keys to navigate, the push navigation only animates from the same direction...and therefore makes it look as if the user is only moving "forward" in the book. Is there a way to control this effect more precisely?
I am creating the document with InDesign CC 2014, adding the page transitions within the file, and exporting to interactive PDF using the setting "Page Transitions: From Document".

I don't think the iPad has it in it to control another device. Unless there's an app for it to be a remote control, but I'd imagine that it woudl be very brand specific.
You can certainly experiment with the VGA or HDMI adapters, but I wouldn't put total faith in them unless you had the ability to experiment prior to your presentation. I'd definitely have a backup plan.

Menu Transitions when using scripting

I have a need to have a script run when the user selects "Next Menu" or "Prev. Menu" (to set a value in a GPRM). The script sets a value and then jumps to a button on the next menu.
The problem is that the transition set for the menu does not work correctly. EG A cube transition rotates to black (should see the next menu) and the screen is black for a few seconds and then the menu suddenly pops up. If I set the target to the next menu directly (without using the script to jump to the menu, it works OK.
What gives here???

The reason why is that when using a script, the player must go to another domain on the disc, where the script is sitting.
Really no way to get around this in DVDSP. Avoid using scripts and transition unless you can live with black screen.

Why do shadows appear before the letters when using the write-on effect

I am using the write-on effect. I am casting shadows on a wall but the shadows of the letters are appearing whole prior to the letters being written. How can I get the shadows to appear in sync?

I apologize for not supplying enough information. I am using AE CS6 and I am using 3D layers with lights. I have also used a single layer for each letter in the message that is slowly appearing. The lights are creating the shadows but are rendering the shadow before the effect write-on, as the shadow letter appears first. Then the letter is drawn second. I thought it must be something in the render order, but I couldn't figure out how to make it happen correctly.
After I posted my question, I found an Adobe video tutorial on render-order. Although the video didn't address my problem, it did remind me that an effect that I could use - drop shadows. I inserted the drop shadow effect above the write-on effect on each letter and the world is good. The shadow appears at the same time as the letter. And with a whole lot less effort.
I appreciate you taking the time to think about the problem. If there is a simple solution I would still be interested in knowing what it might be.

Adding routes when using pppd

I am using the F5 Firepass client in Snow Leopard. Firepass uses SL's built-in pppd to create a VPN connection to a remote network.
The remote network is, in turn, connected to another network that I want to be able to access through the VPN. But if I try to add a route:
sudo route add -net <far away network> <ppp gateway>
The route shows up for just a moment (using `netstat -rn`) but then disappears quickly. I assume that pppd or some other program running is overwriting my routing rules just moments after I create them.
I tried doing the same thing in a /etc/ppp/ip-up script, but the same thing happens: the route gets deleted less than a second after it is created.
Am I doing something wrong? This is really frustrating.

First can you execute the 'route' command to add additional routes? Not all VPN implementations will allow that. Some will break the VPN connection if anything about the network changes.
One trick I used years ago when using an early Mac OS X PPTP VPN connection, was to replace the /usr/sbin/pppd command with a tiny perl script that modified the pppd options removing the 'nodefaultroute' from the command line options. Then allowing the perl script to invoke real pppd, which had been saved off under a different name.
In addition to that command line argument trick, it also made any additional changes to various /etc/ppp files, and even issues its own 'route' commands.
It was all a bit of custom hacking, especially the specific route list, as we had lots of internal subnets that needed specific routing.
But it worked.

Reader 11.0.9 crashes when using side bar (tools, forms & sign)

I downloaded the MSI for the 11.0.9 MUI. I patched it over a copy of my 11.0.7 MUI MSI file. then I released it through GPO
Now when any of my users open a pdf with the "tools" or "Form and Sign" side bar open, Reader crashes. it goes to not responding, then a popup for "check for solutions" or "close program"
I have tried to uninstall Reader 11.0.9, then allow GPO to install it. but I still have the same issue (it crashes)
Has anyone experienced this? With this release? any other suggestions?

Try disabling the 'Protected Mode' in Reader and check the performance.
What happens if you install Reader on a test machine without GPO but directly from Adobe.com?

Lost transitions when using, send to, from FCP

Hi,
I just used, send to Motion, on 2 stills from FCPv6 that had a cross fade between them. Once they got to Motion they had lost that cross fade. How do I make FCP send the transition as well?

I'd set it all up in FCP - straight cuts, to time everything to the music, vo, or whatever, then send it all to Motion, where I'd do the zooms and scans - you need to extend the end of each clip to create overlap for the fade in/fade out behavior, and you need to change the scale interpolation to bezier to match position (which is bezier by default) for perfect starts and stops, but it's faster and easier by far than doing it in FCP - and realtime playback as you work.

Problems when using the Dynamic processor effect?

I am using adobe audition 1.5 on a windows Xp pro machine. Whenever I go to process an audio file with the dynamic processor effect, (after it is processed) The audio file is broken up or corupted. Auition will let me "undo" and I can retry the same process over and over until randomly it works. Any idea's?????

Update: I have just installed version 8.1.1. and exported my library and the issue seems to be fixed. I don't believe that export libary had any impact so it mostlikely is version 8.1.1. who has fixed the isssue. I will keep an eye on it and get you posted on how it goes.

Adding songs when using remote storage

Hi all,
I have a quick question. Currently I have all of my MP3s in a folder called Music on my network drive, which I have mapped to my vista PC. I opened itunes and clicked file, and then Add Folder, and it brought all of my songs in from there.
My question is, now that I've done that will any changes made on the network drive been seen in itunes or is there something else I need to do?
For example, if I drop a couple of MP3s into the network drive's Music folder, will those songs show up in itunes, or do I need to do something else within itunes to make that work?

Flashing after adding transitions

Has anyone experienced flashing after adding transitions especially using cross fades. It does not matter what length the effect is. It is frustrating and unacceptable. I have not received one answer in the past. Ever since I added ILife 06 this is is started. Maybe I should get rid of the Ilife update?

I have had the same thing happen. I dont know why but I have solved it two ways - save, quit and reopen. If that doesnt work delete the transition and replace it.

My Aperture Keeps Crashing on Importing Photos and when Using Nik software HDR Pro

My Aperture has been Crashing everytime I import any Photos from Camera and when Using Nikk Software HDR Effects Pro...Sort This Out Please!

The exact steps I am taking are:
1. Start Aperture...wait till it loads and then connect USB to Nikon D300... Go to import...name project or image info.
2. Click Import all Selected and then Aperture comes up with Crash notification.
3. Send Error Report to Apple.
4. I have tried Belkin Card Reader...does the same.
5. I have used this Camera multiple times...and also a Nkon D7000 without any issues.
6. Both Cameras use Sandisk Extreme Pro Memory Cards...one uses Compact Flash and the other uses twin SD Cards.
7. I installed Nik Softwares HDR Effects...haven't been able to run it successfully as yet.
8. Nik Software support sent me details on Duplicate Arial Fonts...removed them as well.
9. I am running a NEW model iMac with i7 3.4Ghz with 16GB Memory with 256GB SSD... With a 2TB Internal Secondary Drive as well.Running OSX Lion 10.7 and I constantly check for and do all Updates as notified......is absolutely Frustrating.....just need to find a Solution.

It is safe to download if your phone is not jailbroken. Before you download it, however, take some precautions:
Reboot your computer
Disable your antivirus and firewall
Connect the phone cable to a USB port directly on the computer, not a hub
Before updating right click on the name of the phone in iTunes and choose "Backup"
When you are given the choice choose "Download only", not "Download and Update"
After the download completes successfully click the Update button to install it.
Most of these steps are just being overly cautious, as most people ignore them and have no problems. But occasionally the extra steps save grief.

Side effects when using Graphics2D.drawString

Hi! I am trying to render some texts in different places on a JPanel. I use Graphics2D.drawString(String, float , float). My problem is that the AffineTransform of the Graphics2D-object changes after each time I use the method. Should this really be the case? If so, do I need to reset the transformation object in the Graphics2D-object after each call to Graphics2D.drawString or how should I go about it? An example of a set of code and the yielded output is below:

But please let me know if anyone have an explanation to why setting a gradient paint makes Graphics2D.drawString have the side effect I described above...
