Adding USB card that needs power supply H520S

Just bought a 4 port USB 3.0 card for my H520S. I plugged it in and nothing. Then I read on the card manufacturer's website that I need to the connect the card to the PSU in order for it to work (there's an internal USB port on the card).
So I opened the PC and looked for an additional power source to connect the card to...but I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be looking for.
Is this doable on this model?
If so, what cables do I need and where do I connect the cable to?

Since the unit is pre configured by Lenovo all Connectors on the PSU may just be enough for all what's preinstalled inside the unit.
Still Check the power Supply of your unit check inside if there is one available This cable is directly from the power supply, so once you open the computer case Look for the power supply and check the cables coming out from it and look for this connector here is a closer look

If you cannot find out you might need to Upgrade the Power Supply.

What Mac OS are you running (from "About this Mac" in your Apple menu).
Codecs are usually required for viewing videos and should not affect whether the USB drive mounts. Can you tell us what kind of file your are trying to run from the USB drive? The pre-2006 iMacs this forum covers are no longer supported by most modern codecs

GPIB-USB libraries that need to be included with Installer

Hi,
I need to make a small application executable, and the application needs to communicate with a power supply over a GPIB-USB-B connection. MAX can communicate with the power supply on this PC, and the second PC that I have my Base LabVIEW 7.1 installed on runs the executable application successfully. When I try to run the executable on the first PC, however, the process hangs. I included an Installer in the original executable build for the first PC, and in this build all the options under LavVIEW Run-Time Engine were checked (although LabVIEW RT Support wasn't available for checking.) However, none of the other options (Remote Panel License Support, Serial Port Support, Port I/O Support, and Hardware Configuration) are checked because I didn't think that I needed any of these for the basic GPIB communication I'm performing (just VISA Open, Read, and Write). Do you have any idea which of these libraries I need to include in the Installer to make this work? Or is there some other problem I'm not thinking of?

What makes the situation odd is that MAX was capable of communicating with the device, but my application was not. In the interest of making it work, I stuck a spare license of Base LabVIEW onto the PC, and then the application (even the compiled, executable one) worked fine. So clearly something wasn't loaded along with the GPIB-USB-B drivers (or my application installer) that WAS loaded by the full installation of LabVIEW. But, again, the oddness of the situation stems from the fact that before loading the full LabVIEW, MAX (loaded by the GPIB-USB drivers) could communicate fine with the device. This set of circumstances doesn't make any sense to me, but maybe someone else can come up with something.
The PC is a W2K box, and I assume whatever driver information that came in the installer and the GPIB-USB drivers has been overwritten by the full LabVIEW that's since been installed on the machine. I didn't actually oversee the installation of the GPIB-USB drivers, so it's possible the engineer who did that put the card into some odd state--it's also possible he didn't reboot after the driver installation. If the resources come free I'd like to clear out the machine and start fresh and recreate the sequence of events to see if I get the same result. I wouldn't be surprised if the problem stemmed from issues in the driver installation. But I want to hear if anyone's been in a situation like this before I go and do everything over again.

DA G4 w/GigaDesigns upgrade needs Power Supply... Again... Help!

I installed a GigaDesigns Dual 7455B 1.0-1.2(GIG5D1012Q) in my Digital Audio DP G4 533MHz on 6/22/04. The power supply died within 9 months.
I then bought another power supply on 3/8/05 from DV Warehouse(they assured me it was new - far from it... anyway). This one is slowly dying on me. The internal PSU fan has long stopped working, so for a month or two, the G4's case has been open and the PSU sits on top of the case with a room fan cooling it down from 3 feet away. WHAT(in Lil' Jon voice)...
As you can see, my power supplies last for 7-9 months ever since I installed the GigaDesigns upgrade card.
Should I try the MDD PSU mod? Is there maybe a tech that does that in NY?
Or, should I get another Digital Audio PSU that I know will go in 7-9 months?
Is there another way to extent my power supply's life?
What do you guys think I should do? Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Two internal drives should not be a concern for heat, but the DIGI and video cards could be taxing heatwise and also taxing the power supply just a tad..
I don't have any recommendations for a PCI slot cooling fan - they're pretty generic items. When shopping, look for one with the highest CFM airflow and lowest dB (noise) rating you can find. This is a balancing act, as higher CFM ratings usually mean it's going to make more noise. Here's one from Antec at ZipZoomFly to give you an idea. Cracking the case door open isn't a good idea, as it negates the designed airflow characteristics and unless you provide additional airflow to the components, ad may actually make it run hotter than with the door closed.
WRT to dust - the most vulnerable spots for dust accumulation are the intake port at the front-bottom of the case right below the front drive bays, the PSU exhaust area, and the heatsinks on the processor(s). A quick blowout with canned air periodically is always a good idea to keep air flowing and things cooled as they should be.
Also, I do not see my topic in the topics list - I have to search for it. What did I do wrong? I guess there are different ways of posting. I just wanna post and reply without being asked whether my quetion was answered or not everytime.

Added USB Card does not work.

I just added a 5 Port (4 external and 1 internal) USB PCIe Card to my mac pro. The MAC see the card but anything I plug in does not work. The items I plug in work on the other Apple USB Busses but not on the new card. This is actually my second card for this (I thought the first one was bad) but now I am beginning to think the MAC PRO is bad. I have plugged the card into every slot on the motherboard and they all are the same. card is recognized but anything I plug into the card is not...
Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have a late 2012 MacPro currently running OSX 10.10 (Yosemite). I search for a PCIe card with a minimum of 4 USB ports what will work with this system (most I've found online so far indicate "incompatible with Yosemite"). Anyone aware of a card out there that does work? I am not connecting hard drives to the card so speed is not an issue (the card could be USB 2 or 3).

G4 867 DP (MDD) & G4 350 (AGP): PCI USB Card that Supports Deep Sleep?

I am working on upgrading a couple of G4s and wanted to see if I could install a PCI USB 2 expansion card with multiple external ports in both (4 if possible). I'd like to use the same card in both G4s if possible. Both will be running 10.4.11 & 9.2.2. I'd like the card to support Classic if at all possible.
I looked on OWC and first found the Sonnet Allegro; however, its product page notes it does support Deep Sleep so that is out:

Then I found the IOGEAR Hi-Speed USB 2.0 PCI Card and thought I was good to go as OWC does not list any Sleep issues; however, after checking elsewhere (Amazon and other sites) this card has similar G4 Sleep issues.

So where, oh where have all the suitable cards gone?

I’ve did some searching on Google/Google Shopping, Buy.com, Amazon, eBay, & OWC and I present my results as it may help others save time. The most plentiful cards still available appear to be the Belkin, the two IOGear units, and the BAFO.
Looks like I’ll try the IOGear GIC250U first.
Adaptec 3100LP:
PDF manual says support only to 10.1.1 and it says that the driver will disable the deep sleep option on your Mac, requiring you to uninstall the driver file if you want sleep back.
BAFO BF-460:
Manufacturer says Windows only. A buy.com listing says Windows & Mac support but no other details. A Amazon listing says it supports “wake-up” function, but does not say what platform.
Belkin F5U220:
Manufacturer says 10.2.7 or above for “F5U220V1”. Some sellers list cards as F5U220BHP or simply F5U220 so make sure it has “V1” on the end. Manufacturer says it will work with Mac X 10.3.9 to 10.5. LOL, diagram manufacturer has shows external hard drive connections as one example of devices you can connect (a big no, no according to advice here). Amazon feedback said has sleep issues with 10.4.2 on G4; with a G4 QuickSilver 2002 it only worked in the PCI slot next to graphics card; it worked great in a G4 Digital Audio; G4 Quicksilver running 10.4.8 works great; works great in unknown Mac running 10.3.8; never worked on a 1Ghz Mirrored Door PowerPc with any version of X from 10.3 to 10.4.9; froze computer and fried nearby pci card in a QuickSilver G4; a dual 450 G4 has sleep issues.

hello all
i saw a similar post over 4 years ago, however it doesn't address my issue.
my pc started stalling when i attempt to turn it on. It wouldn't come on. Then after several tries every now and then it would come on. I was told through searching that it could be the video graphic card or the power supply. Therefore once i had the computer back on. I never shut it off. However, i could reboot and it would come on.
Now it won't come on again. So i don't know what to replace. The video graphic card or the power supply. If it is the graphic card, do i replace the one previously installed or add a new one. And if adding a new one, what is recommended to be compatible with my 300 watt supply unit? I'm lost as what route to take and how.Below are the details of my unit.
HP/Compaq Presario SR2180NX desktop PC with a P5LP-LE motherboard with an Integrated graphics using Intel GMA 950.
*Integrated video is not available if a graphics card is installed.
Also supports PCI Express x16 graphics cards
300 watt supply.

Is there an add-in video card in the slot? If so, remove it and try to turn on. If the problem is the video card it will turn on. If not it is the power supply.

It is unlikely that the power supply will fit/work in your HP Pavilion p6213w Desktop Computer. Please consider the Corsiar CX500, CX500M, CX600, and CX600M for your power supply needs. These power supplies are the same physical size as the factory unit and are known to fit and work in most HP full-sized consumer desktop computers.
There is a chance that the GTX 760 and other current generation video cards may not work in your computer. These newer cards typically require the computer to support the most current UEFI standards and many motherboards don't meet this criteria. Please know the return policy on any video card you purchase, in case it doesn't work. If the GTX 760 doesn't work, consider the GTX 650/660 Ti or equivalent AMD graphics card for your graphics card needs.

I have a HP pavilion a6603w desktop model number FK555AA-ABA a6603w. I have a low to mid level graphics card, which is the most that my power supply will handle.
I want to get a stronger power supply to run a high end graphics card with a self cooling fan. Can anyone suggest an excellent, reliable power supply brand and model that will fit into my desktop case with minimum fuss? I am not tech savy but I have replaced my video card and hard drives with no problem.

Hello lugnut1204, I checked the specifications for your system and is appears the system shipped with a 250 power supply. The dimensions for this power supply are 5 15/16 inches wide, 5.5 inches long, and 3 3/8 inches tall. Since your system is a MicroATX version, you would be slightly limited to a power supply of the same size as the original power supply.
Here is a link to Newegg where a Corsair 600 watt power supply can be found with almost the exact same physical size as you original 250 watt version. The Corsair power supply dimensions are 5.9 inches wide, 5.5 inches long, and 3.4 inches tall.
If you get a power supply too long, it may interfer with the back of the CD\DVD drives.
You would need to locate a video card that you wanted and make sure the power supply requirements were less than the 600 watt Corsair model. Most of the mid to higher end cards require at leaset a 400 to 500 watt or greater power supply.

Auxillary power supply for high-end graphics cards

Dear All,
I have an ATI Firepro card that needs 450W and of course the MacPro motherboard is not suited for the purpose. However there are a few auxillary power supplies advertised to supply extra power. Has anyone got any experience with using them?
Is it safe to expand the power range of your motherboard?
I'd really love to make use of this card (the FirePro V8750) as apparently it is the fastest for 3D graphics applications.

I remember someone in macrumors installing a power booster in the lower optical bay, in order to power dual 4870s. I was trying to look for the thread, but couldn't find it
I don't see a problem with using that to supply aux power, as long as it fits.
Another option: You probably shouldn't though just cause I don't know the long term effects (if any), but you can get aux power from the lower optical bay molex... I can't say I recommend it, just because half of the people say its fine to do, while the other half says not to.
I do know that people were using this option to run 4870s in crossfire; not sure how long it lasted though..
I'm assuming you want to use this card under bootcamp correct?

HP H8-1020 - Upgrading graphics card/power supply

Looking to give my almost 5 year old PC a much needed graphics card boost. As mentioned in the title, I have a HP h8-1020. After reading other posts from users on this forum, It seems that the power supply provided with this model (300W) is completely insufficient for any new, decent graphics card.
I also use a 27 inch Samsung S27D360 Monitor.
I read that some people used the corsair CX500/600 with a Nvidia GT X series (2Gb) card as a suitable upgrade. However I don't know much about power supplies or performance graphics cards. I'm not looking for an absolute top of the line card, just one that can run most modern high-intensity graphics games. I'm hoping for a price range of about $100 for the power supply, and no more than $200 for the graphics card.
Here are some of the games that I would like to run on high - max settings (preferably in 1920x1080):
Diablo 3
Skyrim
Grand Theft Auto V
The Elder Scrolls: Online
Any help with suggestions for a new power supply/graphics card would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,
The Corsair CX600 would be a good choice for a power supply as would the Corsair CS650m.
You have an older PC which usually requires an older generation graphics cards. The NVIDIA GTX 660 would be a good choice.
ZOTAC makes a number of graphics cards that are compatible back to PCI-E version 1.1. Model ZT-90101-10P is compatible back to PCI-E version 1.1 and is available at Best Buy.
Know what the return policy is before you buy.
