Adding USB IR Receiver to Mac Pro

I've added a USB IR receiver to the Mac Pro but can't get the Mac to recognize the input from the receiver. The IR receiver blinks and shows it's receiving input from my Apple Remote but the Mac Pro does nothing. I'd like to use the Apple Remote for iTunes and Plex....maybe Front Row.
Thanks and help would be great.

There are only a couple of IR receivers that have drivers for the Mac and are compatible with the Apple Remote. Which one are you using? Here is a page that describes some alternatives:
<http://twistedmelon.com/mira/hardware.html>
The RF remotes that came with the ATI all-in-wonder video cards also work with the Mac. I've got one set up for Front Row, with some specially programmed keys to open/close the DVD drive, and power up or put the computer to sleep.

  • I have a belkin 7 adapter for additional USB slots for my Mac Pro. It was working well till just recently I am getting a message that says the usb port on the Mac Pro is shutting down due to a very high power drain. Then it shuts the usb port down.

I have a belkin 7 adapter for additional usb ports for my mac pro. It worked fine without problems till recently when the message regarding usb port drawing too much power and the computer shuts the port on the mac pro down. The strip comes with its own power supply adapter. The attachments are additional hard drives used as backups and independent data. Other than disconnecting it are there any fixes?

You're getting the message because you're exceeding the available current, probably as a result of bus-powered drives. The power sources for hubs are rather small. Try using drives with their own power supplies.

  • I need lots of USB ports with New Mac Pro, now what?

because I'm in the audio business I needs lot of USB ports with my Mac Pro. On my current 2008 machine, that's not really an issue, with 5 ports on teh MP itself and I installed some USB hubs over PCIe that give me a total of 13 port. I'm not really sure what is the best way to get that amount on the new MP.
Oh, and I really like the stability of my current set up. Before I went with an external USB Hub that always gave me headaches with ports not being recognized.

The only two things I found so far are:
a/ going back to the external USB hubs, which I find very frustrating to work with, because instable with connection and I would need to add some interface to go from USB to TB (which are also rather expensive at the moment)
b/ use some external PCIe enclosures that are really expensive.
So I havent really found the right solution for my situation. Which makes me hesitant to migrate to new MP at the moment.

  • Booting from USB 3 on a Mac Pro 2010

Two issues:  I've been looking for a USB 3 Card for Mac pro without much luck.  Therefore, any suggestions for a good, reliable card would be much appreciated.  One piece of information I came across is that apparently USB 3 does not support booting from an external drive(Clone), but not sure if this pertains to a MacPro 2010.  Can anyone verify this information?  I assume eSATA does support an external bootable drive, but I may be wrong on that.  Again, any info would be appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Gary

I have the CalDigit USB3/eSATA card in my 2010 Mac Pro. It works well; however, drives attached to it are no more immune than any other external drives to the Improper Disk Ejection bug that occurs with Mountain Lion, Mavericks and Yosemite in the process of sleeping/waking from sleep. Apple is apparently never going to fix this. In Snow Leopard, any drive attached to the CalDigit card behaves perfectly. I have never tried booting from the eSATA interface.
BTW there is a CalDigit FASTA-6GU3 USB3 eSATA card on eBay right now:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/201264131915?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STR K%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
I didn't see any mention of which card it is. The first version works with OS 10.5 and newer; the second-generation card requires 10.8.2 or newer.
I have experimented with the Mountain utility on my Yosemite test drive, and with Mountain running, the improper ejection problem has so far not occurred. But I spend little time in Yosemite, so I am not 100% positive that Mountain has solved the problem.

  • Mira and Manta TR1 USB Receiver for Mac Pro question

Hi, I would like to buy the Mira software and Manta TR1 USB Receiver for my Mac Pro. Can the Mira and Manta TR1 USB Receiver slow down my computer? thanks

  • Any way to tap into USB internally in a Mac Pro?

I have a 2008 quad-core (not a 8-core, mine's a "CTO") Mac-Pro. An outfit called Koutech Systems makes 8-port RS-232 PCI-e cards. Problem is, it needs to tap into a USB header-pin connector on the mother board, or plug into an internal USB port. I think it grabs power from the PCI-e bus, and converts the usb serial into RS-232 serial (I know the card shows up as a usb device in system profiler). Is there a way to gain access, internally, to a USB port, and if so, how?

Kinda hate to have to buy a 5-port USB PCI-e card when I already have numerous unused USB ports on the outside. There is a (not easily accessible - ya' gotta pull the front panel fans to get to it) pin-header connector on the motherboard that is labeled "FP-USB" so I'm guessing that means "front panel USB" -- it goes to a small PCB that has the front panel USB and firewire connectors on it -- I wonder if I could hijack that, at the expense of rendering the two(?) (not sitting in front of that computer at the moment) front panel USBs inoperative, but not affecting anything else on that PCB (i.e., the 1394 FW ports or the audio port)?

  • Why can I only access 3 of the 4 usb busses on a mac pro?

I'm attempting to aggregate four cheap 7.1 usb soundcards to give myself 32 channels of audio output (I have good reasons for doing this). It seems that the devices cannot be differentiated when they're connected to the same usb bus (I'm not sufficiently well informed about the devices to know why this is) and thus the aggregate device fails.
I've been able to connect three of the devices to a Mac Pro (specs below) without doubling up on USB busses (giving me 24 working channels). Theoretically the Mac Pro has four busses (confirmed by this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/message/9053084#9053084) After attempting various combinations of pluggings-in, however, I find I can only access three of these (therefore can only run three of the usb devices without them doubling up on a bus). One of the four busses remains perennially empty. Is there any particular reason for this? Is the fourth bus only accessible internally?  (Again according to the thread above it would seem not, but I still can't access it). Does it have something to do with high vs low-speed busses? The soundcards are USB2.0, so maybe that MacPro can only handle three high-speed busses...
I suspect that I shall have to resort to buying a PCI USB card. Which prompts another question: do such cards offer independent busses for each port or would all ports be routed to the same bus? My guesses err towards the latter or a combination, and that it differs from card to card. But I can find no information in the specs of any of the cards I've looked at which tell me.
Rather obscure questions, but I'd be grateful for any help.
    With thanks,
    pete

Maybe it's the total power requirements of the attached USB devices and you need a powered usb hub.

  • Has anyone else has USB problems on 2013 Mac Pro after 10.10.3?

Since upgraded to 10.10.3 I've noticed that my USB 3 card reader has stopped working with the USB sockets on the back of the Mac Pro.
The card reader works fine with a hub or Thunderbolt Display and the USB ports work fine as I've tested them with an external HD and external Blu-Ray drive.
Seems to coincide with the update but I can't find any similar posts elsewhere. Would be good to know if it's just an issue with my Mac or there are other instances.

Epson is having a lot of problems with their printer drivers on MacOS 10.9.
Check with Epson for updated drivers.

I am a senior citizen newbie to apple.  I have just downloaded my pictures to my Mac Pro.  How do I remove the usb port without damaging anything.  I know I shouldn't just pull it out.

The iphone is a "plug and play" device.  It is safe to unplug it without "ejecting it".  If you want to be sure it is safe open itunes and under devices next to your iphone you should see the eject symbol like a line with an up arrow above it, click that.  Once you no longer see the iphone listed under devices it'll be safe to remove.

There are several remotes for the Mac Pro that will control its DVD player, such as

The Mac Pro can't drive speakers directly. You need powered speaker, ao an amplifier.

  • How do I plug a non-USB microphone into a Mac Pro?

Question from an audio newbie....I've got a 2009 Mac Pro desktop computer. I just bought a microphone headset. The headset has a two-pronged plug in, a green one for the headset (speakers) and a pink one for the microphone. My Mac Pro has two speaker ports - one in front and one in back - but I can't find anyhwere to attach the microphone plug.
I don't want a USB headset because my USB ports are already maxed out. How can I attach this non-USB microphone and get it to work?

Look at your back side. Look at the booklet too that it came with or from support page manual.

there are digital out audio and microphone on the backside.

  • Adding 2nd Optical Drive into Mac Pro (first gen) makes both unusable!

    Hey all,
I recently purchased a second DVD drive to go into my first gen Mac Pro 2.66Ghz.
The installation went a little rough, although OK in the end. The IDE cable seemed reluctant to want to stay in a safe place.
Upon booting however, and now had no optical drives installed!
Even System Profiler reported no disc burning capabilities except my external USB CD Burner.
I've taken the second Optical Drive out, which by the way was one of these: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Samsung/SHS202NBLS/
My original Sony (Disguised NEC drive) drive is now working again, although what on earth happened?
Should I try swapping the drives around? E.g the Sony on the bottom and Samsung on top?
    Any thoughts would be appreciated,
    Thanks,

    I have an idea,
Perhaps the newer DVD Drive I have here is "better" than the currently installed one, and therefore doesn't like being connected as the slave (bottom) to the "weaker" master (top) drive?
Could it be something like that?

  • Can I use a usb bluetooth adaptor with mac pro which already has bluetooth?

    Hi All,
I have an early 2008 Mac Pro. I have a bluetooth sound device that I'd like to use across the other side of the house. The problem is that the in-built bluetooth transceiver is limited in area and i have a usb transceiver that has 15m broadcast range. Is there a way i can make my Mac Pro use the usb dongle and not the internal hardware..?

You can disable the internal bluetooth radio. As long as you have drivers for your USB Bluetooth adapter you should be able to use it.
