Adding Verity supported file extensions

I need to search files with extensions not supported by
Verity out-of-the-box. There include both ASCII and binary files.
Are there any options for defining additional supported file types
in Verity?

This tutorial was written by Greg Rewis for SASS and LESS (CSS).  But the basic procedure should work for any extension you're trying to add.

  • Does anyone know how to change .mov to a supported file extension (and what extension would you suggest)? .mov works on Apperture 3.0 so I thought it would work on Final Cut Pro X....

Does anyone know how to easily change a .mov file extension to one of the accepted Final Cut Pro X extensions?  I thought since .mov worked in Aperture 3.0 it should work on FCP X.  Thanks

    Hi Tom
    Thanks
I am now doing some 1 minute import tests from various Q/T's
They are all in the same place on an External 1 TB Western Digital - connected by Firewire 800
I have just imported some 1 minute tests from  other Q/T 's and they have imported Ok - quickly imported and transcoded etc fine and quickly.
Using your suggested methd of getting the details using Quicktime 7 Movie Inspector I can see NO DIFFERENCE in the formats!  In fact with four of these files open I can click on each in turn and see the Inspector details for each in turn - and only the name, size etc changes - not the format!
I am really upset and confused by this as I have been trying for the last four days to get these imported.  I realise that this is small potatoes to those who are having problems with even FCP 7 Files!  But, these are q/t's of 30 hours worth of unique reserahc material I shot in Africa. I have made several programmes from this material before (one even shown on Discovery!)  I WAS hoping that I could use the new and all singing FCPX to make some new programmes for teaching purposes
But, how can I do that if only some will import?  As I posted elsehwre - i get the message "No importable files"
I am REALLY grateful for your expertise and advice here
    thanks

  • Added character to file extension of attachment

A .doc file selected from my desktop arrived at a Windows user with the extension .docc
The mail was just a standard mail with an attachment.
Same thing happened yesterday with file extension .jpg - arrived as .jpgg

I found it! Why the extension changes.
It has to do with signatures!
When you place the PDF file just above the signature (or I guess inside), the extension changes name!
    This is my signature:
    Jonatan 'Kip' Kipowsky
    0709-XX XX XX
    [email protected]
Since I have TWO enters (for the air) above the line above my name, when I place the PDF file just above the line I place it INSIDE the signature.
I tried it high above the line and just over. Every time I placed it over, it changed the name, to .pdfdf and such.
    How did I find out?
I used at PDF file with spaces in the name, foregin letters (swedish), two different mail servers (smtp) and sent to two different adresses (yahoo.se and my own). I tried with text and without text in the mail. Tried waiting, so the message would be auto-saved and without. Tried all different ways. Yes, friends. For an hour I had no life!

    Kip

  • File extension _000 is being added

I believe this is part of the rollback option which we are
    not using.
We tried the Rollback option at one time and it became
confusing for the users as well as for those of us who administer
Contribute 3 because it was adding so many extra files which was
contributing to broken links. We do not need the Rollback option
because our users are only allowed access to development and
everything is backed up daily. Therefore, we disabled the rollback
    option.
Even though Rollback has been disabled, the _000 file
extension is still being added to graphics and PDF files. How can
we stop Contribute 3 from adding this _000 file extension? It is
still causing a problem with broken links because the files moved
into production do not have the _000 file extension.

By Default any user role created - ex: Publisher, Writer
etc.. will not have a permission called "Allow users to delete the
files they have permission to edit"...
    Edit->Administer Website->Select the role->Edit role
settings->File Folder Access, Check the check box... All users
to delete the file they have permission to edit...
When you give this permission, and if the user in that role
tries to publish a file then he will be prompted with a dialog -
"Do you want to overwrite this file? or create a similar file name
    i.e., _000"...
But by default this checkbox is unchecked so, people will
    have by default _000 created....
    hope this helps...

  • How do I make the file extension (ie:  .tif, .jpg, .eps) in OS 9.2 visible?

I'm trying to transfer files from an old G3 (OS 9.2) to a new G5 (OS 10.5.8). Most files do not show the extension in their name. For example, an Illustrator eps has the file name "layout_final". When I transfer it to the new machine, it recognizes it as an .EXE file and cannot open. If I type in the .eps file extension, where is now reads "layout_final.eps", it then opens in Illustrator. I don't want to have to resort to manually adding in the file extension to every file. Is there a way in OS 9.2 to automatically show/turn on the extension in the file name?
    Thanks for the help!
    Steve

How are you transferring the files ?
It sounds like you're going through some sort of Windows / DOS formatted media.
If you can network the two Macs together instead, do so.
If you can burn a CD or two on the Mac G3, do so.
If you have to use a USB stick, format it to Mac HFS Extended (aka HFS+) on either and use that.
The key is that if you transfer the files using something formatted for Mac, the file metadata should not be lost, and the files will appear on the G5 as expected, assuming that you have suitable apps to open the files in OSX 10.5

  • Printing to PDF adds extra characters in file extension (eg. .pdfg)

    Hi.
I have no idea if this is the right forum for my question, but since pdf creation is -- in a way -- printing, I thought I'd start here.
When I create PDFs on my MBP (10.5.4) and send the document to my Windows-using colleagues, they cannot open the files since an extra character has been added to the file extension. This is incredibly frustrating, since I haven't managed to track down the problem.
Is this a problem with the system's in-built PDF-creation tools? Or is it Apple Mail that nefariously adds the unwanted character to the end of attached PDFs? Or might there be some other problem, somewhere?
On my mac, the PDFs look kosher, and my mac-using colleagues can open the files I send to them.
I would be very happy for anyone spreading some light on this subject.
    Cheers,
    Andreas

Yes, it is a problem with Mail when either the message subject or the pdf document (or any other document type) contain accented characters, I believe.
Until Apple fixes this (which worked in previous Leopard versions), I do not use accented characters when I want to send an attached document via Mail.

  • Quicktime automatically adding file extension?!

I use Quicktime for all my video playback - so i'm assuming my problem lies with this?
I do VJing and when I'm downloading video clips (non-mpg4) i.e. avi, flv etc - the downloaded files are adding a '.mpg' extension onto the file - so that it wont playback automatically in quicktime. For example a file downloaded called '1234.avi' ends up in my download/desktop folder as '1234.avi.mpg'?
The problem means I have to manually alter each file name deleting the .mpg file extension (and confirming each time that I want to change it) - so it will load in quicktime. I'm assuming it may be because I have ticked the box on 'always open this file type with quicktime' - which is what I want, but how do I stop it adding the file extension each time?

Thanks for your help. I wasn't aware you could disable that alert in the finder? I'll have to look at doing that.
Whilst I take your comments on board - are you suggesting that Safari (web browser being used) - is adding the file extension on download?

  • .XML extension automatically added to all files

    GM,
I am very familiar with office 7 and the XML format.  What is happening is that a second extension is being added to the file. e.g.   a excel, word, pdfs, etc)  "resume.docx.XML", *.pdf.XML.The file cannot be opened in windows
    7.  Stripping out the .xml from the file does not help either.
If I go back to an XP system, the file is fine. (The .XML extension is gone.)
    Any suggestions are welcomed.

I suggest you go to the Office forums @

  • Preventing file extensions being added to variable text (File Name)-

…when one imports one INDD file (v5 or 6) into another. We have the variable text specifications set to exclude file extensions. The .indd does not publish in the originating document.
We use INDD import and the text variable "File Name" quite a lot.
    TIA-
    -Todd

I think he's saying that when you open an ID doc, the filename variabe inside can be set to report just the name, but when you import that same doc into another ID doc, the filename variable shows the ".indd" extension.
EDIT: Yes, that is (stupidly) how it seems to work. No idea how to fix it though. Suspect Adobe has to issue an update.

  • Hyperlink without adding file extension

I have created a website using iWeb and have several links on it to other files on my computer.  IWeb overrides the text I put in as the link and adds the file extension to it.  I have tried renaming the file without an extension but it is always put back by iWeb.  How can I make sure the file extension is not viewable on the web page?

Highlight the link URL and overwrite it using the Link inspector.

  • Double Extension Added to Downloaded Files

I am trying to download a QIF file for Quicken and on completion of download the extension appears at download.qif.txt. When I remove the .txt extension leaving just the .qif extension the file type changes to quicktime. Checking Quicktime I do not see QIF as a type of file extension approved. Any suggestions on how to get to work. I can download other QIF files but this one site is causing issues. I tried down loading to a PC and emailing the file however the files shows up as text in the email and not as an attachment. I tried installing the 10.4.7 combo suggested in a previous post but no luck.
    Regards.

What is happening - when you first start capturing, the Mac OS is instructed by FCP to allocate disk space for the capture. If you have not set capture limits in the preferences, it allocates almost all the hard disk, and gives it a temporary file extension of .av. When the capture successfully completes, with the video recorded to some of that space, the system renames the space used by the video to the capture file name, typically filename.mov. It then frees up the unused space in the .av file.
If you fail to complete the capture successfully, by force quitting FCP, the end cleanup never takes place, and the .av file remains filling up the disk. If you try the capture again, it will fail due to no free disk space. To recover, delete the .av file from the finder, and restart FCP. Better yet, reboot and restart FCP.

  • Support for file extensions with more than three characters when saving - I want my FLAC!

Why does the Wave Editor still drop characters from filenames with more than three character extensions when you save a file? But since -opening- a FLAC file with an extension of ".flac" doesn't get chopped to ".fla", why does Audition still chop off the extra character when -saving-?
It gets old quickly when you have to save, close and reopen files in order to get Audition's Multitrack editor to play nice and be able to find files when you reopen the Session.
Given that the FLAC filter is open source, I may just have to modify the code and recompile it to force a save to ".fla"... But of course, ".fla" is a Flash file extension, which I also use, so that is a crude hack for me.

    Hi bro...
use in BYTE mode in place of in TEXT mode. and at the end of each line give some special charactor so as to distinguish between lines. This is effected  by unicode check too

  • Is there a shortcut for adding file extensions?

I have an archive of over 15,000 images, all TIFF, JPEG and Photoshop images. None of them have file extensions. They were saved back when Mac did not use extensions. Now they will not open if I just double click on them... I must add the correct extension, then it opens fine.
It will take me FOREVER to click on each one, type in the extension, then click "Add".
Is there a script or shortcut to name all these old files? Or shareware?
Or at the very LEAST is there a way to turn off that annoying dialog box to confirm that I want to add the extension?
Thanks, any feedback will be appreciated.

I have a whole lot of very old graphic files, and thought I would try Kappy's recommendation of Renamer4Mac, combined with a Spotlight search to see how speedily one could add extensions. So did a Spotlight search on a backup folder that contains many and varied sub-folders containing many and various images. To get the old pict files I hit command-F from the top level folder, selected that folder (WHY does search have "This Mac" as the default???), and for Kind I selected Other and typed:
    Adobe Photoshop PICT file
in the blank field. It returned a list of 961 old pict files. Launched Renamer and told it to insert the text pct, at position 1 from left, suffix only. Then dragged a batch of the files from the search results window into the top pane of the Renamer window, clicked the Rename Files button, et voila'! The files were renamed (and no confirm dialog box).
To figure out what to put in the Kind:Other field, just do a search on Kind:Images and note the different types. Thus, something that needed the psd extension would be Adobe Photoshop file, to find tifs, it would be TIFF image. You might have some "QuickDraw picture" as an image kind, they are pict files. Plain jpegs can be brought up with Kind: JPEG image, extension jpg. And so on.
