Adding video causes itunes to close.

Every time I attempt to add a MP$ video or any other video itunes experiences an error and must shut down do you want to send a report .....
HELP please

My thanks to you both.
I had originally misunderstood and was working from iTunes.
Using find the file was in an "unidentified folder" a quick right click within finder and the file was trashed - iTunes then allowed me to remove the reference to it.
I will try again as the original file was an .avi which I have previously used to convert to DVD without a problem.
Again - thank you.
Paul.

Can someone please please help me!
Ever since i upgraded to the latest version of itunes I started encountering problems/difficulties in adding videos in itunes library. All the videos that I'm trying to upload are in the correct file format (mpeg4/mp4). I tried adding using Add File to Library, Add Folder to library and even Import..nothing happens..no prompt that its uploading. In the end can't add any video.
I tried doing this using my PC and my laptop and i still encounter the same problem so I can say that th problem is not on my computers.

  • ITunes Video Error; causes iTunes to close down completely

Since the update iTunes will play music fine, but any video attempt causes iTunes to create an error that closes the program.

+"iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close."+
let's first check to see if this is associated with a problem with your QuickTime. (iTunes needs a properly functioning QuickTime in order to work correctly.)
try launching your QuickTime. does it:
    (a) launch perfectly fine?
    (b) fail to launch with an error message? (if so, what does it say?)
    (c) exhibit other peculiar behavior? (if so, could you describe it for us?)

  • Movies/videos causing iTunes to shut down

My laptop recently crashed and the hard drive replaced. Fortunately all my music; movies; videos; and tv shows were on my Ipod classic. I reloaded itunes. Now the movies cause itunes to stop stating it cannot find the movie. The icon is there but no movie. The movies are still on my ipod and work great! I bought a new movie and it works fine no issues. Any ideas as to how to get my movies back onto the laptop so I can watch them Like I want to? The only thing I can think to do is to erase iTunes and start from scratch again. I can back up the ipod to another computer. ( I did that last time)

Now downloading my CD"s is creating the same problem. I now cannot even bring up the itunes on my laptop is has shut down due to movies/videos and CD downloads! What can I do? Please I need major help and calling itunes was useless they wanted to charge me for iTunes help!

  • Videos cause iTunes to crash (Windows Vista)

Hi, I'm a new user here, although I've been using iTunes for a long time. Recently I decided to use the iTunes store to buy a video for the first time, only to find that, A.) every time I try to play the video, iTunes immediately crashes ("iTunes has stopped working",) and B.) I can't play it on any other media player other than iTunes or QuickTime, thanks to DRM, and both choke and die instead of playing the video. The video will work on my other computer with XP, (albeit choppily,) so I know there's nothing wrong with the video files.
I looked through FAQ's both on the Apple site and on Google, and followed the instructions presented, but nothing works other than reinstalling iTunes, (I tried downgrading to an earlier version, but it wouldn't let me open iTunes because it said that the library had been made for an updated version.) Reinstalling iTunes works until I restart my computer, at which point the same problem occurs again.
As per the instructions on the Apple site, I went into QuickTime in the control panel and set video to "Safe Mode (GDI Only)," but the problem persists. Disabling ReadyBoost didn't make a difference either, so I reenabled it.
I've read that storing the video files on a SATA drive can cause problems similar to this. What is a SATA drive, and is there a way for me to move it to a different drive?
Barring that, I'm afraid I'll have to find a different source for videos, one that will allow me to play them on more versatile and hardy media players.

Same problem here. Things were working fine until I upgraded to iTunes 8.1. Now, I am unable to play any .m4v video in iTunes or QT; however, I am able to play non-DRM .mp4 just fine. I believe that the issue must be codec related, but I have not identified the offender. Leave it to Apple to sell you a product that can only work on their system, but won't work on their system.
Anyone having information as to WHY I cannot play DRM that I PAID for in a program DESIGNED ONLY FOR THAT DRM, please let me know as it is appreciated.

  • Connecting to music stores causes iTunes to close!

I have been experiencing the problem where every time I
try to connect to the music store, it starts to load up
and then iTunes inexplicably closes. I updated iTunes to
6.05 and it still does the same things. Anyone have any
idea as to what the problem might be?
    Thanks,

I am having the same problem. But it freezes my iTunes and to close it I have to ctrl alt delete and end task. I tried it on both of my computers with no luck accessing the music store.

  • Adding video to iTunes but keeping it in a folder when iTunes organizes your folder automaticly

    Hi,
I've recently added a video to my iTunes librariry (on Windows 7) so that I can view it through my AppleTV, I was able to add it to the library and change it's type from Movie to TV Show but when I look at the folder structure, it puts it to the root of TV Show folder and not into a specific folder (for example, the name of the show).  If I create a folder and move the file into it, everything resets back to moving it into the movie category (because I have the option for iTunes to keep my folder organised automaticly).  So I was just wondering if there's a way I can configure the file (maybe through the get info in iTunes) to have inside a specific folder.

I suspect the problem is that you're not filling in enough information to cause the file to be moved to the intended folder.
Fill in both Album and Show with the name you want your "TV Show" to have. See this for more info.
Don't move iTunes media around by hand, that just confuses things. As in the words of this video you need to trick it into doing what you want.

  • Videos cause Itunes to Crash

Everything was fine yesterday, now today all of the sudden when I went to finish an episode of the X-Files that I had started last night, I just got a black screen and when I clicked on it it told me that iTunes needed to close now. I don't understand what could have changed between last night and this afternoon. I do use my TV as an external moniter, but I have been doing that for a few weeks now and havent had any trouble till now, I tried it on this moniter and I still got the same result. What could have caused the problem?

I am having more frequent video playback crashes with Itunes. The videos do not crash when played back in quicktime. Seems to happen at random times and more frequently since last fall. I have an nvidia 8800 gts graphics card, c2d e6600 CPU, 2 gb ram, win xp pro. Video files are in several different libraries c: and d: drives. Videos are .mp4 format.

  • Need help with adding video to itunes

i have an ipad 1 that i put 2 videos on to teach CPR. got a new ipad. not only will i tunes not transfer the video it will not let me add it to the library to put it onto the new ipad. and help would be appreciated

Is iTunes crashing when you try to add video or is it just not adding them?  If it's crashing I found that selecting the video in a folder and then right clicking (PC) then selecting Open With, iTunes, then iTunes will start to play the video but also adds it to the Movies section.  I've been having problems with iTunes crashing and found this to be the easiest way around it, obviously not the best choice if you have lots of videos.

  • Adding Video to iTunes not relabelling correctly

    Hi,
I have had this problem for a few weeks since i updated iTunes. I usually download new tv shows from another source, import them into iTunes and then relabel them by programme name. Since the update I have done the same thing as usual but now when i transfer them to my iPad mini 2 they appear in a blank folder and then divided into seasons. It's driving me crazy.
Any ideas (1) why its doing this and (2) how to fix it please.

Video labeling comes up frequently on this forum.  You may be better off using a third party tagger.

  • Adding videos toi ITunes

I wish to add my own movies to ITunes so I can synch them to my IPod. I cannot add video files to ITunes. When I add a folder, or a file or try moving the file to the library it says nothing is selected. Can anyone help? Thank you.

    Hi,
iTunes only accepts QuickTime movie format. That is ".m4v" or ".mov" videos. What you can do is, if you haven't already done so, convert the videos to ".mov" format, and then drag it to iTunes. That should do the job.

  • Connecting iPod to computer causes iTunes to close.

I've downloaded iTunes 7.0.2 and when I plug my iPod in, the following message appears in a new window:
"iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience if you were in the middle of something, the infomration you were working on might be lost. For more information about this error, click here.".
I have already reset my iPod, removed and reinstalled the latest version of iTunes and Quicktime, and I am still having this problem.
If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.
    Thank you kindly,

do you have any third-party itunes plug-ins/add-ons installed on the PC, Michelle? (every now and then i've seen mplugin produce that message in those circumstances.)
if you do have plug-ins/add-ons, perhaps try running through the techniques from the following document:
Troubleshooting issues with 3rd-party iTunes add-ons
are they of any help with the crash?

  • Playing video in iTunes on laptop running Windows Vista

I recently changed my computer. I now have an HP Pavilion running windows Vista (use to have XP). I have a video iPod -30GB. I downloaded iTunes onto the new equipment without incident, but that is the last thing that went smoothly.
I can no longer watch TV shows or movies from iTunes. The video plays like a slide show of stills (the audio is real-time however). Eventually I will get an error message from Windows and it closes the application.
I am also having issues with syncing my iPod and computer. I get a message requiring me to delete all of the content of the iPod and replace it with the contents of iTunes.I haven't done this -no trust and no backup
This message is from iTunes. I suspect it is a security feature to prevent downloading to more than one iPod, as iTunes doesn't seem to 'know' my iPod anymore. Syncing has also caused iTunes to close and my computer to reboot. Has anyone else had these problems?
Any suggestions ... short of throwing the Windows computer out of a window?
