Adding videos toi ITunes

I wish to add my own movies to ITunes so I can synch them to my IPod. I cannot add video files to ITunes. When I add a folder, or a file or try moving the file to the library it says nothing is selected. Can anyone help? Thank you.

Hi,
iTunes only accepts QuickTime movie format. That is ".m4v" or ".mov" videos. What you can do is, if you haven't already done so, convert the videos to ".mov" format, and then drag it to iTunes. That should do the job.

  • Adding video to iTunes but keeping it in a folder when iTunes organizes your folder automaticly

    Hi,
I've recently added a video to my iTunes librariry (on Windows 7) so that I can view it through my AppleTV, I was able to add it to the library and change it's type from Movie to TV Show but when I look at the folder structure, it puts it to the root of TV Show folder and not into a specific folder (for example, the name of the show).  If I create a folder and move the file into it, everything resets back to moving it into the movie category (because I have the option for iTunes to keep my folder organised automaticly).  So I was just wondering if there's a way I can configure the file (maybe through the get info in iTunes) to have inside a specific folder.

I suspect the problem is that you're not filling in enough information to cause the file to be moved to the intended folder.
Fill in both Album and Show with the name you want your "TV Show" to have. See this for more info.
Don't move iTunes media around by hand, that just confuses things. As in the words of this video you need to trick it into doing what you want.

  • Need help with adding video to itunes

i have an ipad 1 that i put 2 videos on to teach CPR. got a new ipad. not only will i tunes not transfer the video it will not let me add it to the library to put it onto the new ipad. and help would be appreciated

Is iTunes crashing when you try to add video or is it just not adding them?  If it's crashing I found that selecting the video in a folder and then right clicking (PC) then selecting Open With, iTunes, then iTunes will start to play the video but also adds it to the Movies section.  I've been having problems with iTunes crashing and found this to be the easiest way around it, obviously not the best choice if you have lots of videos.

  • Adding Video to iTunes not relabelling correctly

    Hi,
I have had this problem for a few weeks since i updated iTunes. I usually download new tv shows from another source, import them into iTunes and then relabel them by programme name. Since the update I have done the same thing as usual but now when i transfer them to my iPad mini 2 they appear in a blank folder and then divided into seasons. It's driving me crazy.
Any ideas (1) why its doing this and (2) how to fix it please.

Video labeling comes up frequently on this forum.  You may be better off using a third party tagger.

  • Adding video causes itunes to close.

Every time I attempt to add a MP$ video or any other video itunes experiences an error and must shut down do you want to send a report .....
    HELP please

    My thanks to you both.
I had originally misunderstood and was working from iTunes.
Using find the file was in an "unidentified folder" a quick right click within finder and the file was trashed - iTunes then allowed me to remove the reference to it.
I will try again as the original file was an .avi which I have previously used to convert to DVD without a problem.
    Again - thank you.
    Paul.

  • All of a sudden (video) files added to my iTunes library after a certain date aren't playable on other devices.

    hello!
All of a sudden I have a weird issue with playing video-files added to my iTunes library after a specific date.
This is the situation so far:
I encode the video for iTunes with the same settings for the last 3 years. I know these vids play on all my devices. AppleTV & iPad. All of a sudden videos added to my library after the 8th of september aren't playable on my AppleTV and iPad. I can play them directly in iTunes and by accessing them directly via the finder and quicktime.
    The following errors occur:
When I pull the video from iTunes on my AppleTV.. the video simply doesn't play.
When I pull the video from iTunes on my iPad I get a message that the file can't be found.
When I push the video from iTunes to the AppleTV using airplay I get a message that there has occured an error while connecting to the AirPlay-device "Apple TV". The necesary file could not be found. In addition when the AppleTV is switched off it doesn't turn on doing this, suggesting that there is something missing on my mac itself.
All the above errors aren't popping up when I choose a video that has been put in my library before the 9th of september. Then everything works as expected.
    This is what I tried:
Turning off and on home sharing on all devices including the mac.
Logging in wiht a different apple ID though using the same ID as before.
I created a new iTunes library and populated with a video that was added after the 8th of september and one that was added before the 9th of september. Surprisingly the older one played and not the newer one.. while they both used the same encoding settings. The new library was locally on my mac as my original library is on a NAS.
I encode my videos with Quicktime 7 Pro using the following settings:
H.264 (current frame rate, key-frames:automatic, re-order frames, automatic bitsize)
    Medium Quality
    Multi-pass
current resolution (which is always 1280 X 720)
    AAC sound
    44.100 kHz
    128kbps
I'm using the Mountain lion 10.8.2 and iTunes 10.7 Mountain lion got updated a few days after 19th of september and iTunes i think as well. Both versions were released after this issue seemed to pop up.
I also have two video-files encoded on the same day with the same settings that dragged into the iTunes library on the 9th of september. One works.. the other doesn't.
So I wonder if there is somebody out there that can tell me what might have happened here and how I could fix this issue.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi Seraphiel07.
I have a very similar issue. Hardware involved:
Apple MacMini (Mid 2011) - OSX 10.8.2. iTunes 10.7. Home Sharing enabled.
Apple TV (3rd Generation). Home Sharing (access) enabled.
Apple MacBook Pro (15" Mid-2009). OSX 10.8.2. iTunes 10.7. Home Sharing enabled.
Apple iPad 2 (Wifi only). iOS 6
    Apple iPhone 4S. iOS 6
    All connected through:
Apple Time Capsule 8.0211n (4th Gen)
I have an iTunes library on the MacBook Pro, shared over "Home Sharing" and another (duplicate content, different library name) iTunes library on my MacMini, which is also accessed through the Apple TV.
All software is current (as of Sep 26th).
All movies are iTunes purchases. 80 in total.
All files are purchased (and home shared) under one account.
My last two iTunes purchases both HD movies on 09/17/2012 and 09/05/2012 refuse to appear on any device accessing either of the two Libraries over Home Sharing. It should be noted that every other movie (the other 78) all show up and play correctly. I therefore know it is not an issue with connectivity, otherwise I would see zero movies available.
    I have:
    1. Removed all content from each Library and re-added
    2. Upgraded the OS on the MacMini 10.8.2
    3. Tested viewing the two missing movies on other Apple devices and no luck.
    4. Turn home sharing on and off within iTunes and also on each device.
It would appear to me that the issue is with the files themselves, rather than the devices as different devices and different versions have been tested.
    All comments welcome.

  • Can't play manually added videos since upgrading to IOS 8

Since upgrading to IOS 8, my iPhone 5 won't play any videos that I copy to the device manually through iTunes.
These are videos that I've played on the iPhone before, so I know they are compatible and of the correct format.
Basically what is happening is that I can copy them across and they show as being on the device, yet when I eject the iPhone and open the Videos app, the video player immediately presents the message 'Cannot play video make sure you are connected to a wi-fi network'
When I reconnect the iPhone to iTunes, the videos still show as being on the device, but they all have a small exclamation mark next to them.
Has anyone else seen this behaviour?
EDIT: I have just discovered that if I add the videos to my iTunes library first, then sync them to the iPhone, they play normally. However, I do not want to have to keep adding any video I want to play into iTunes first, I'd rather just copy them straight off my external HDD as I used too before.

I have this problem too, but even adding first the video to iTunes isn't working. The videos I'm trying to add to my iPad are in my iTunes library and were in my iPad before the iOS8 upgrade (and played normally), but since the upgrade, none of them work. When transferred to the iPad in the video app show no content, and viewing the iPad content from iTunes just shows the video title in gray with the exclamation mark.
    Waiting for help too.

  • Trouble adding video files to library

I am unable to add most video files to my video library, the only files i have been able to add so far are quicktime files, also, when i try to open other video files into quicktime it says:
Error -2048: The file is not a movie file
Im not sure if this has anything to do with adding files to itunes library, just thought id mention it. I've tried to convert some of these files to quicktime with Xilisoft Video Converter 3 but when i do it, it says that it failed. If anyone knows of any good reliable video converters (if this would solve my problem) that would be cool. Also, this doesnt have anything to so with my problem, but i cant find any movies or tv shows in my Itunes store, and yes i do have the latest itunes version: 7, i can buy games, music videos, and pixar short films but i cannot find tv shows or movies.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Can't Add Any Video To iTunes

I've read through every single thread on this topic, but cannot find a solution and could really use some help. I rebuilt my computer and everything is working great. Except, I cannot add a single video to itunes. I used to add and remove videos constantly and never really had an issue. I've tried mp4, mov, different sizes, etc. Nothing will ever show up.
Most of these threads end in 'they show up in Home Videos' which would be great, but I never even get the Home Videos section to show up. I've tried adding them to 'automatically add to itunes' folder with itunes closed. Once I open itunes, they go straight into the 'not added' folder.
Been at this for days now and am at a true loss. I have 12.1.1.4 on Windows 7 64-bit and Quicktime 7. Any thoughts?

  • How to Specify Metadata When Adding Content Using iTunes U Web Service?

I've been developing Java applications using iTunes U Web service and uploaded content to iTunes U site using iTunes U Web service without problem. Now I want to add metadata fields (name, artist name, album name, etc.) for the tracks I uploaded. It seems to me that "AddTrack" will do. So I tested it but it neither adds a track under the specified group nor updates metadata fields for an existing track. It turned out "MergeTrack" actually updates metadata fields for an existing track. So is there any way to specify metadata at the time of adding content using iTunes U Web service? And what exactly does AddTrack do? This is all about contents hosted by iTunes U site and no RSS is involved.
I'm referring to the "AddTrack" method in iTunes U Web service:
    http://deimos.apple.com/rsrc/doc/iTunesUAdministrationGuide/iTunesUWebServices/c hapter18_section_21.html#//appleref/doc/uid/AdminGuide-CH13-SW26

Thanks for all the replies. My question is whether there is any way to specify metadata WHEN adding content using iTunes U Web service. Specifying metadata AFTER adding content can be achieved by MergeTrack (weird naming) and it does work.
As for setting track level meta-data in the media file and then upload it, there're several reasons against that, among which are:
    1. Some track metadata are context-dependent. A video about buildings on Michigan Ave in Chicago can be track #2 in a history course and described as "historic view of the Magnificent Mile", but the same media can also be track #5 in a landscape design course and described as something like "contemporary architecture". Setting these metadata in the media file itself is not the preferred way to do it since it implies maintaining a version of the same media for any course/group it gets uploaded to.
    2. Setting metadata in a location separate from the media file helps track the metadata change and search for media without digging into the media itself.
    3. If MergeTrack "updates" metadata, there got to be some other method that "creates" metadata - that's what a well-designed API should look like. And setting metadata in the media file is not an equivalent to a "create metadata" method call. In rickwolf's term, that implicit AddTrack should actually be made explicit so the party uploading content can explicitly specify metadata instead of having iTunes U extract metadata from the media.
It is still not clear what "AddTrack" does exactly, maybe rickwolf is right - it's only relevant to tracks created through RSS.
So it seems to me there is no other way to specify metadata WHEN adding content using iTunes U Web service than setting metadata in the media file. To me it is more like a design flaw.
