Adding WMA files to iTunes

I am trying to figure out if there is a way to add wma files to itunes. so far every time I go to add these files to itunes nothing happens, btw i am running iTunes 7.4.2

iTunes does not read wma files.
You need to convert them first.
Google EasyWMA for an app to do this.

I have an Olympus digital voice recorder that saves files in a WMA format. I would like to play these files in iTunes. I know I can play them on Windows Media Player, and have done so. Is there a way to convert these wma files to iTunes? I've tried importing, Adding to Library, dragging the file onto the iTunes icon, etc. Or, is there 3rd party software that can convert it?

I stumbled across a method of converting unprotected wma files to aiff files using free tools you probably already have.
If you have iMovie HD 6 and Flip4Mac, then you can drag a wma into an iMovie project and it and Flip4Mac will convert the file to an aiff. You can find it within the media folder in the movie project.
You can then let iTunes convert the aiff to the compressed format of your choice. Since you're going through a double conversion, I'm assuming there will be some loss of quality. I couldn't tell the difference in the stuff I did, but your ear may be more demanding.

How to convert wma files for iTunes

I will appreciate any help from anyone who shows me how to play wma audio files in Itunes. I do not want to use an outside non-Apple audio video converter. The quick time program plays the audio file but I do not know how to bring it in the Itunes Library.

Converting WMA Files
In iTunes for Windows, you can convert your unprotected WMA files to AAC files (or whatever file format is chosen in the Importing pane of iTunes Preferences) without changing the original WMA file. Simply drag the WMA files into your library in iTunes and iTunes does the grunt work, converting them for you. Windows Media Player 9 or later must be installed to convert unprotected WMA files. Protected WMA files cannot be converted.

Is there a way to import my windows WMA files into itunes 4 on my mac? I tried upgrading to the new itunes but the system upgrade of 10.4.9 slowed it down to where it would barely run so I have to keep it with the older version of 10.4.

Ok, I upgraded to itunes 8 and still can't import the WMA files. It says it is importing for a while then just quits. I have over 10gb of music files in WMA format and they are all sorted into folders. Is there a free program to bulk convert all of them to M4A formats so itunes will work with them?

Can not find WMA files in iTunes, for borrowing library books with Overdrive Media Console

I have borrowed audiobooks from the library, using iTunes and Overdrive Media Console for years. some months ago, I was suddenly unable to. thought it was my old computer, so bought a new one. took weeks to be able to get an upgrade from Windows, and when I was finally able to thought my troubles were over.
but, no, now the Overdrive Media says it can not connect to iTunes. someone at Overdrive said iTunes had to be the default player for WMA files, but I can not figure out how to make that happen, since there is nothing that looks like 'WMA files' anywhere on my computer. any advice? I can't afford to purchase audiobooks, and I really miss being able to borrow from the library. this new computer has Windows 8 OS

There is a OneClickdigital ereader available in the App Store. Download that to your iPod to read pdfs and books from the library. And you might need to download the OneClickdigital eaudio player to listen to audiobooks from the library. Once both are downloaded sync you iPod again to transfer them.

Cannot move my former .wma files to itunes for mac

Over the years, I ripped all of my cds and stored them on my PC. Because I was using a PC, I ripped this music in .WMA format. When I got my macbook, I was EXTREMELY disappointed that I couldn't just transfer these files into itunes. So I did some reading online and found a converter to change my .wma files to .aac files. Cool (I thought) Problem solved (I thought). But no, now itunes will not import these newly converted files. So what's going on here? I live in an area that has no apple store so I have to rely on the good will you people.

You still have not told us how you converted them. It is possible the converter isn't producing an iTunes compliant version of AAC.

WMA file to iTunes

I have thousands of WMA music files on a thumb drive and I want to bring them permanently into my iTunes. I have tried everything I understand, which is very little. Copy and drag. Downloads from Cnet and Windows and Apple but nothing works. Even though I have been using a PC for 30 years, this is my first Mac, I cannot figure out how to use this machine except for how to get on the Internet. The nearest Mac store is a 4 hour round trip drive so that is out of the question.

Problems -
EasyWMA is not free.
Switch looks fine, but after installing the wma plugin as prompted, and feeding it the first batch of .wma files, it crashed.
I'm now 'borrowing' an EasyWMA.
Pros : simple to use. you can have it process your entire music folder at once. adds songs to itunes right away.
Cons : limited functionality! E.g. there's no option for VBR (variable bit rate), so I set it to 256 fixed. E.g. when having it run through my entire music folder, there was no option to restrict it to wma files - it also worked my flac's, for which I'd already found a better solution (fluke).
Sigh Hate to complain, but hey, this stuff would be easier on Windows

Importing wma files to iTunes

Back when i was a PC user, i copied all the music i love off my CDs onto my PC (don't recall what program I used to do so) and then threw away the CDs. When i converted to Mac, many of these songs didn't import to iTunes. They appear to be .wma files. Since i've already thrown away the CDs, is there any way to keep/play my music in iTunes or am i out of luck? It'll cost me a fortune to re-buy all these songs one at a time.

if the WMA Files dont convert to the ACC format or doesnt work in iTunes... getting WM Player (for MAC) Will be ur best bet!

I have audio files in wma format; want to put them on iPod. If I upgrade to QuickTimePro will I be able to export them into iTunes?

May I add a practical piece of advice here?
EasyWMA would be a better option for conversion with some important provisos.
Conversion degrades the sound, with some exceptions to do with the bitrate. There is less harm done if converting down from a higher to a lower bitrate as long as the original material does not require the original bitrate.
Speech actually requires only a relatively narrow range of frequencies so a low bitrate will almost match a higher bitrate in quality. 32 kbs is as good as AM radio for speech. Music, depending on quality and intricacy requires at a minimum 128kbs (although I think this still crude), better is 160kbs for AAC files and 192kbs for mp3.
wma files are a bit better or a lot worse than mps, depending on the version and quality of software that created them. In practice I have found that unless the .wma file is more than 256kbs the result is less than satisfactory.
Classical music and heavy metal need high bitrates because of the detail in the sound. Pop music and old recordings are far more tolerant.

Wma files to itunes library

I am new to the word of Mac. With PC's wma files are automatically converted when loaded to the itunes library. I have tired to load wma files to my mac, and nothing happens. So I am thinking that in the mac word, there is an extra step to take, and I am not aware of that step. How do you convert wma files to load to iTunes in a mac? Thanks

iTunes for OS X does not have the ability to import WMA files.
One issue I know about importing Windows Media Audio (wma) files is described here:
iTunes for Windows cannot import or play WMA files that are protected by Windows Media Digital Rights Management (DRM). These files usually come from other online music stores. Additionally, Windows Media Player encodes CDs to protected WMA format by default, though you may change that setting.
