Additional Alias created - not by me - can't get rid of it!

My husband and I have a .Mac account and we set that up fine. We've also added two aliases (one for me and one for my husband). So, now we have 3 e-mail addresses, our family address and then a personal e-mail address for both of us. We set up folders and rules to have mail sent to these addresses go into specific folders. Again, that works fine.
However, since we did all this months ago, there's also been a 4th account listed in the drop down box of the 'From' field in a new mail message. It's the default account, meaning it has the check next to it. I did not create this alias. It's a combination of my husband's name (which is the name our .Mac account is registered under) and my e-mail alias. Whenever I'm sending an e-mail or responding to one (even one that came to my e-mail alias), Mail will use this new account as the default. So, the people receiving e-mail from me, think it's coming from my husband. Of course, I can change it by selecting my own alias but I often forget to do this. I'd like to direct Mail to automatically use my alias (both my name and e-mail) account when responding to mail sent to me AND to automatically use this alias when I'm originating an e-mail from my folder.
Does anyone know how to do this AND how to get rid of the other random alias account that was created?

Have you tried to get rid of that mystery account via Mail's Preferences >Accounts window: selecting and and clicking the "-" key? If so, what happens?
If that doesn't work you should be able to edit the .plist file for Mail and remove it from there. First, download Pref Setter and install it. Then, go to /Users/<your username>/Library/Preferences and scroll through the list until you find com.apple.Mail.plist and Option-drag it to your Desktop to create a copy.
Now open the original .plist file in the Preferences folder (the one you just copied to your Desktop) using Pref Setter and type "accou" in the search box at the top right; this will narrow your results to four items; we're only interested in the one labeled "MailAccounts".
You will need to click on the disclosure triangle to find the mystery account, since they are all listed with the account name. When you find it, select the Item number for it and press the large Delete key on your keyboard to delete it; this will then change the numbering for all the remaining accounts. You can Save the file and quit Pref Setter.
Restart Mail and go to Preferences >Composing and look for the line that says "Send new mail from:" and use the popup menu next to it to choose "Account of last mailbox viewed". This means that whichever mailbox is used to view an email to, that is the account chosen automatically to send email from. So if you husband read an email to him in his account and he wanted to reply or send a new email, his account should be the one used to send. Likewise for you.

Drag it to the trash icon in your dock. This is a disk image, and you need to "eject" it, to get rid of it.

I inadvertently created a certificate and can't get rid of it!

I inadvertently created a 'Terence Watts's CA' certificate in my keychain (long story, boring, not necessary ) which is not trusted and is going out with all my emails with a 'not trusted' message... I deleted it - several times - but the darn thing keeps on coming back!
Can any wise person here tell me how to despatch it once and for all?

When you use grep to search for things and what you want to search for contains special characters like ' and " and others, you either have to escape them or just not include them (you need to read how to do this in a book that covers the Bash shell) as it gets a bit complicated depending on which characters exactly the string contains.
But you could easily just look for a subset of the string - for example if your certificate were named "Terence Watts's CA" you might just want to
security find-certificate -a | grep "Terrence Watts" | grep CA
and that should do the trick. Unless you have more than one certificate that contains these two strings, you will still find it.
But now that it's not going out attached to your emails, that's what counts...

A blank gray box won't go away...why not? How can I get rid of it?

Every time I open Firefox, a gray box (about 1in x 1in) appears in the near upper left hand corner of my screen. When Firefox is open (and not hidden) the gray square covers any window that it is located over - this will included any non-Firefox applications. Only when Firefox is exited or hid will the gray square disappear. Please help!! I'd like this square to be gone.

This could be a feature of a Firefox add-on. A standard diagnostic to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings) is to try Firefox's Safe Mode.
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [[Backing up your information]]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, restart Firefox in Firefox's Safe Mode ([[Safe Mode]]) using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode."
If the site works correctly, this points to one of your extensions or custom settings as the problem.
To further disable add-ons, you can try here:
Tools > Add-ons > Plugins category

HT201493 When trying to edit one of my "friends" on the Find Friends App. I noticed I can edit pics but not information, one of the numbers I have is wrong, it showed up when I added my daughter and it's not hers, I can't get rid of it to put hers in.

Is there a way to edit numbers and addresses on Find Friends? I have been trying to fix a problem with my daughters iphone mobile number listed on my iphone. It brought up a number I believe she used for a social site but won't let me enter her actual mobile number. I contact her through her iphone using her phone number.

If the phone is offline there is no way to track it or send a message to it. You can place it in lost mode to lock it and send it a message (see http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mmfc0f0165), but this will not take place until the phone goes back online, if it ever does. If it does, you will get an email informing you.

After recognizing slowness and heat in my machine, I find
posix_spawnp("/Library/StartupItems/ProTec6b/Nalpeirond6b", ...): No such file or directory
in my system.log, but, looking in the library, well, the file isn't there. I deleted the Nalpeirond6b.plist thinking that might stop it, which it did not. What else can I do?
I'm running Leopard still, 10.5.8, having been putting off upgrading and/or a new purchase.

Why are my pending apps in the update screen saying open and not install. Can't get rid of the badges because of this.

In the App Store on my iPad and iPhone the updates screen has gone squiffy.
When I have updates pending they say open on the button and not install. When I click it, it opens the app instead of installing the update and the badges for the updates will not go away.

Yes. When you do a restore, it will erase everything that is currently on your iphone and put everything you had from your last backup back onto your iphone. BTW, you could always redownload your paid apps for free.

To delete individual apps, hold onto the icon until it wiggle. You should see an "x" on the top. Just hit the "x", You cannot, however, delete apps that Apple put on the iphone. Those apps will not have an "x".

I'm not exactly sure what you are seeing and what is happening, but try closing the App Store app, and then reset the iPad. See if that takes you out of that screen and allows you to navigate freely again.
Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the App Store app and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

You can check the target line in the Firefox desktop shortcut (right-click: Properties) to make sure that nothing is appended after the path to the Firefox program.
Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

Remove the Firefox program before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

Well, not sure - so exactly what resolution do you use to shoot? Go in your camera settings and check. And, is there a settings to choose for regular/extra/fine/superfine quality? I shoot at the highest quality - period. My size/resolution is either widescreen or larger than what I need for the movie. My TV is HD 720p - that means the screen will display 1200 x 720 pixels in HD; if you have a 1080p, it'd be 1920 x 1080. So shoot in a size a bit larger than that because they can be adjusted down without any quality loss, but can't be made larger without significant loss of quality.
But,again, the problem usually doesn't start until you add movement, but camera quality has something to do with it as well. I know that a previous camera I had was not as good and a lot of my slideshows/movies didn't come out as perfect as I would have liked. So I bought a more expensive camera - shoots in full 1080 HD and I haven't had a problem since.
As for exporting a slideshow: finish it in Photo to Movie and export to desktop at highest quality (will take a while). Here is a screenshot of my export settings:
Once done, you can simply choose that movie by going to "import movies" in iMovie and navigating to the location (I usually save to desktop - easy to find).

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
