Additional Backgrounds and Borders
Hi! I am just getting into creating my own greeting cards. Mostly for Birth Announcements, Invites, Save the Dates, etc. On the Artwork and Effects Panel, there is such a minimum selection of backgrounds and borders (and others, but these are my main concerns). Being new to this, I wasn't sure if there was a place to download additional backgrounds and borders somewhere and adding them to the Artwork and Effects Panel? There's a specific type of border (striped) I'm needing for an invite, and I'm very limited (mostly polka dots) to the ones I already have in there.
I am currently using Photoshop Elements 5.0 on a Toshiba laptop.

Click on "Advanced Search" and select Photoshop from the pull-down list.
There's a huge selection of backgrounds, borders, frames, artwork, effects, etc., which you install in your Presets directory. I don't know if any can be added specifically to the Artwork and Effects Panel.

That is what I have done for quite a while, and it will work well. Only, you have to remember to do it.
And it gets complicated, when you are travelling along a time zone boundary and are continually switching between time zones. I now always take a MacBook Pro with me when travelling, so I can import the photos right away.

The current system time zone setting will only be applied to the images you are importing. iPhoto reads the EXIF dates from the card, say 10:00 am, and then will file it as 10:00 am Paris time, if the time zone is set to Paris. The metadata of other photos will not be changed.
The system time also determines, how iPhoto displays the dates and times in the Info panel. If no time zone tag is displayed, then the dates are expressed in your local time. -
I cannot see the background color and borders when exporting
I created a 10 page document with a background color and borders around the images (I am usiong InDesign 5.5), when I export it to PDF I only see white pages with my images, what am I doing wrong?
I suspected as much. [Paper] is the absence of ink -- it means don't put anything here and let the paper stock show through and in the PDF it is essentially transparent ( the PDF only shows a white background to keep you from seeing the insides of the monitor -- well not really, but Acrobat doesn't dispaly transparency with grid the way Photshop does). The ability to edit the swatch is a convenience to make it easier for you to visualize what your design will look like on colored stock.
If you want a colored background you either need to print on colored stock, or you need to print the color in the background by creating a frame and filling it with the color of your choice. I doubt you will be printing on a dark brown, especially since there are areas of white in your design, and the only way you get white is by leaving the paper blank iin those areas, or using an opaque white ink, which is bothexpensive and not very practical in photos, especially over a dark color. -
Not sure that I have selected the correct forum. Hope my questions are clearly stated.
Having problems connecting iMac(late 2006) running 10.7.5 to a Samsung Flat Screen TV using separate audio/speaker cable and HDMI standard cable, mini-DVI to HDMI video converter. TV displays generic Apple galaxy background and "some" windows (e.g. screen resolution choices). It does not show Mail or Safari menus. System preferences' display "gathered" the Samsung and chose its resolution. I did not find a way to select the Samsung as my display.
In addition to having old hardware, we have Verizon FIOS providing internet and TV access. Is there any way to make this work for us? We would like to stream video (Netflix) and view shows from the Web. Do we need Apple TV to do this? Or is it not possible with our old iMac? My husband thinks that our Airport could be a factor.

There are, actually, many alternatives to choose from than just from a Mac.
You need to have or invest in a WiFi capable router for all of these examples.
Apple TV only integrates with WiFi and newer Mac hardware. So, if you want to have total integrated experience, if you have a 2011 Mac or newer, you might as well pay the $100 for the AppleTV box.
If you have a older Mac, like I have noticed many users do, then you have other options.
If you want to elimate long cable clutter and having your Mac at the mercy of your TV all of the time, you can still use the AppleTV box independently or purchase cheaper alternative media streaming boxes from Roku, Sony, Boxee or any number of electronics manufacturers that now have media streaming boxes and media streaming capability built into DVD/Blu-ray players.
These eliminate long cable clutter by being close to the HDTV where shorter, less expensive cables can be used.
Another alternative for iPad users is to use an iPad with the USB/HDMI video adapter and use your iPad as the streaming box. This ties up your iPad in much the same way as it does with your Mac, but again the iPad can be close to the TV and use minimal cables to the TV.
Another alternative to is to use a combination of an iPad and your Mac to stream content that is only available to stream online from a computer. In this case, you can use a desktop remote app on your iPad and Mac. A good and cheap Desktop Remote app is Splashtop Remote. This allows you to completely connect your iPad remotely, over Wifi, to your iMac desktop. The app streams both video and sound to the iPad which is still connected to your HDTV. The resultant stream video picture will be smaller than the size of your HDTV, but it will still be plenty large enough to watch. Again, if you own a iPad and an Intel Mac, this method also allows minimal cabling to the TV. -
How can I remove an image from its background and save it? (Photoshop cs6)

I am very new to the photoshop world and am trying to remove an image from its background ( as a stand-alone) and save it. Is there a way to do this in Photoshop CS6? I have looked at tutorials but only found how to remove the image but not how to save the image as a stand alone with no background.
Any help would be appreciated

Are you trying to save a portion of an image with a transparent background? It may help to post a screenshot of the image that you're working with as well as your layers panel.

Deleting a background and saving an image with a transparent background
1. Here I am working with an image of a santa hat that I've cut out from a white background. I have two layers, the cut-out santa hat and the original file. I'm going to delete the background layer so that I have just one layer - the cut-out santa hat:
2. You'll see that a checkerboard pattern has appeared behind the santa hat. This means that the background is transparent.
3. You can then go to File > Save As... and select PNG, Photoshop PSD, or TIFF from the Format dropdown menu. These file formats will save the cut-out portion of your image on its own, while preserving the transparent background. -
Image gallery approach for additional details and add to cart option?
With efficiency and minimalist downloads for smartphone users I would appreciate advice on a product image gallery.
Currently I have an intro page and other simple information pages. My gallery pages ( four distinct pages for different leather goods) need either a pop up or a link to a new page for additional details and an option to add to cart.
Within the image gallery, How should I link each photo to the new detail/cart page? Can clicking the image itself be the action or do I need a button?I made a mistake. I think I got it right this time. The pop up of the title box works but the images are all gone.

Photoshop Express 3.0 - Information on in app purchases, looks and borders
Thank you for using Photoshop Express. In our latest 3.0 version, we revamped the rendering engine in order to deliver great new effects, improved editing controls and a streamlined user experience. That means some things you were familiar with may not be available in this version.
In-app purchases have been renamedThe “Effects Pack” that you previously purchased has been renamed "Premium Looks Pack". You still have access to this Pack.
The “Camera Pack”, which provided Noise Reduction, is now called "Noise" and can be found in the Corrections slider menu.
Restoring in-app purchases. You do not have to initiate a re-purchase.
If you've previously purchased either of the packs above, they are still available to you by restoring your purchase, which is accessed in Settings.
Other changesPrevious Effects and Borders have been replaced with Looks, Premium Looks, and Borders. Some of the new looks replicate many of the most popular effects. We will be adding new borders, looks and sharpen controls in future releases.
We appreciate your feedback and will take it into consideration for future releases. We value you as a customer, and hope you like the new borders and looks and continue to enjoy using Photoshop Express.There was a big change in Photoshop Express 3.0 in the rendering engine. Many items that users accessed often were incorporated in the new release before it went out, but there are other features that had to be implemented differently due to the new rendering engine. Many of these items are on a roadmap for future versions. There are yet others that are more difficult to implement and require more research as to how they would be added. New versions will be released shortly that will include the Sharpen tool and some of the features you have been requesting. I am sorry many of you are frustrated with the new version. We made the choice to move forward with a new rendering engine which gives us significantly improved editing and capabilities. Unfortunately, that hindered us from being capable of some previous effects and borders. This decision was driven by low usage numbers on the effects we were no longer capable of, which I apologize affected your workflows. We hope you like the premium looks that we developed which are free to you if you restore your purchases (settings menu). We also took the step to create brand new borders, which we will continue to add to as we go along. Again, I apologize that the features you used previously are no longer available. We hope you continue to use the product and give the new features a shot.

Browser background tile - borders
I would like to use an image for the browser background and have it tile seamlessly. Is there a way to remove the gray border that automatically shows up at the edge of every tile?
Also, is there anyway to add a border for the edge of the page background and browser background?Hello,
Instead of using "thin", try using 2px for the border
thickness.
That way, it isn't open to different browser's interpretation
of what "thin"
means.
For example, change Left Column to this:

I'm not sure when it began, but now my Macbook Air only shows a black background and a User Name and Password dialog box when I wake it from sleep. It used to show my desktop background blurred with my user name and icon displayed with only a text field for entering my password. I'm currently using Yosemite (OS X 10.10.1) and all updates have been done. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I know this isn't a real problem, just an annoyance since I couldn't find how to change it back in the System Preferences.
I just have to point out that after looking at a related post (https://discussions.apple.com/message/22661092#22661092), it brought to memory that my issue most certainly began happening after I added some DoD certificates to the keychain. This obviously has something to do with it, but it still leaves me wondering what actually causes this to happen. :/

How to log in background and execute a function for downloading a file

i have a problem.
I have an application with logon functionality. Over the application there is function to create a xml file for downloading it to the pc.
Now i want to download this file in background and save it to a server.
My problem is here how can i do this. The main problem is how to logon with the userid and password in background and how to dowload the file.

Best way to edit out a white background and make a transparent gif
I have an image I purchased but need to make it into a gif. It already has a white background but when I use the magic wand it chops little bits of the edge of the images up.
Is there an easier way of editing the white out of this background and making a transparent gif?
I am using Adobe Photoshop CS2

Schedule ME2L in background and send output to email address
Hi,
Our Client has a requirement to schedule ME2L (particular variant) in background.
The report should run every day in background and output should get emailed to particular email address.
Any ideas??? Pleae let me know.Thanks for the information. Very useful.
I am just facing one road block at the moment.
I am now able to schedule the ME2L Report and email it as attachment.
But, we have created a particular layout for this report, which we want should get emailed.
But when we schedule the report in the background (or run it in background manually), it only picks the standard layout!
I cannot find any layout option in ME2L Selection Screen as well. (I could have saved it in the variant then)

It is taking long to execute if data is more.
Now i want to schedule this report in background and generate spool along with.
So once i execute REPORT1 it should run in background & generate spool?
