Additional Content - Final Cut Studio

I'm going to be getting a new MacBook Pro as soon as they refresh, and I already own Final Cut Studio 2, but I'd like to get an SSD with the MBP, and I was just wondering about the additional content for FCS. I'm debating between a 128gb and 256gb, and the ~50gb of content that comes with FCS will be the deciding factor for me. Can I install this content on a drive separate from the application?
I will only be editing when I have my external drive attached anyway, so I'd much rather throw it on a 2TB drive than on the internal SSD, especially when that means I can save a few hundred dollars on going with the lower SSD size. Is it possible to do this?
Thanks.

SSD are fabulous because of no moving parts and incredibly fast access times, and read/write capabilities.
I have one.
But I don't see any significant improvements in FCP for editing. A 7200 rpm fast Seagate Momentous is an excellent boot drive. Much cheaper, but not as fast booting, or loading apps.
But that doesn't matter when editing.

Additional Content and FCS Audio Content are not the same
If the copy of Logic Studio you bought shipped with a wrong disc you need to return it for a replacement.

  • Where Can I find content for Final Cut Studio!

    Hello,
I had final cut studio on my program but I didn't know that it came with content. I threw the box away. Is there a way where I can get those content for the programs?
    Thanks

"But the truth is i got it" yes you did....off a bit torrent. The DVDs are packaged together, it's quite obvious that you illegally obtained a stripped copy. No one is going to fall for your scam, you have some nerve to come here and try and pull it off. Your elementary school english isn't convincing either. I hate to be a bit rude but you have to grow up. If you did actually have a copy you could just show apple your serial number sheet and they'd replace the missing software, but that isn't the case here is it? You have embarrassed yourself and you name here.

  • How to remove Final Cut Studio content, extras, etc?

    Hi,
I want to say that I do not want to delete the apps. What I want to do is only remove the extra content.
Essentially, I installed the entire Final Cut Studio on my MacBook Pro and am realizing I should not have done the complete install (eats up hard drive like no tomorrow).
So.. any / all advice would be greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks!

In Motion, open the Motion preferences found in the Motion menu... on the front page you see the path names to templates and livefonts... If you remove them, you could place them on another drive like a FW drive... and access them that way.
In Livetype, The media files are located in Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/LifeType/Templates. You could move them, then add their new location to the window that opens when you select LiveType's Preferences. Then LT will look for templates in this new location.
In DVD SP, the location of styles and templates is near the same path as in LiveType, however in the DVD SP folder. To reset them to a new location, the preferences for DVD SP you can change the location of where DVD SP looks for these...
I'd not want to lose them altogether, but you won't hurt anything doing so... I'd put them on an external drive and reset where the various apps look for them, and if all is well, delete the originals...

  • Reinstall Final Cut Studio without reinstalling content, templates, etc.?

I had to reinstall my entire OS because of a major system failure. I am now in the process of reinstalling all my applications and my question is this:
All of the content, templates, sound loops, etc. that are installed with Final Cut Studio (40+ GBs of data) I had installed onto an external hard drive. Thus the content is all still there.
I am about to reinstall FCS onto my system and was wondering if there was a way I could point the installer or respective applications to the content on my external hard drive. This would prevent having to reinstall all 40+ GBs of content onto the external drive again and would save probably about three hours.
Does anyone know if this is possible and how? Thanks.

Good luck getting an answer on reinstalling, but I may be able to help. When you put the first Final Cut Studio install disc in, it asks you what you want to install, and gives you the option of unchecking a bunch of stuff like a bunch of livetype media and such. I haven't tried this, but I would imagine that you could just uncheck what you have installed elsewhere and when you open the application for the first time, it will probably ask you to reconnect the media files. At least that's how it sounds like apple would do it.

  • Audio Content 1,2,3 Logic/Final Cut Studio

    Hello.
Do I have to install both Audio Contents 1,2,3 from Logic Studio and Final Cut Studio ???
or the content from these three DVDs is perfectly the same???
    LOW DISK SPACE HERE...
    Thanks

It's easy... just boot from your OS CD, and choose erase and install from the optional installs button once booted. Run Software update a few times until there is no more to update... This will erase the hard drive and install a new OS on it.
    Install whatever.
To boot from this drive, hold down the option key during a startup , and you can pick it from the dialog box that opens. To reboot just select the other drive in the startup disk pref in Apple System prefs.

  • Final cut studio 2

I am installing final cut studio 2 on my computer and its been awhile since I bought it so I am not sure which disc its asking for. I have so many final cut disc here mixed up here, I put in the install disc and then it ask for Audio Content one could someone tell me what disc that is I have motion and apple loops and dvd studio 4 but can't seem to find the Audio Content disc and what version it is? Thanks

well I imagine the audio content disk is labelled ... wait for it... "audio content." You can choose NOT to install additional content (like audio content) if you can't find the disk, so that you can successfully install the applications.

  • Final Cut Studio 2 Install questions ...

I have a dual 2.0 G5 that I bought used a while ago and it had Final Cut 5 installed on it. I just bought Final Cut Studio 2 and when I intall I can see that it is upgrading most of the components. Is there a way to uninstall the earlier version and do a clean install of my new FCS2? Or is letting it upgrade the previous owners version okay? I think I would feel better knowing my nice new software bundle was being installed cleanly?
Also, I plan on installing this on my PowerBook. What steps should I take to have the audio/template content get installed on an external drive. I only have 27Gigs available on the internal drive of my laptop.
    Thanks in advance,
    Keith

I would personally wipe the whole machine if I bought it new-- you don't know what the previous owner's loaded on, how many tiny processses have gotten piled up in the background. The only thing you need to run a fresh install is the FCP5 serial number.
As for the PowerBook installation, you will have the option when installing to place the additional content in another location other than the default. I don't remember exactly when this option presents itself, but keep your eyes open and I'm sure you'll see it.

  • Final Cut Studio install problems

Well I was thrilled to get Final Cut Studio 2, but cannot get the thing installed. Looking to do a 100% uninstall so I can start fresh
    I have the following disks:
    1. Final Cut Studio
    2. DVD Studio
    3. Livetype1
    4. Livetype2
    5. Motion
On my first install everything went as planned and it asked me for serial number. I made it thru the first disk with no problems, and the 2nd one installed for awhile, but suddenly stopped. A message popped up saying to put the Final Cut Studio disk back in. When I did that it failed. So I followed these steps:
    Delete the User Preferences
You can resolve many issues by restoring Final Cut Pro back to its original settings. This will not impact your project files, but you should verify your Scratch Disk location setting after doing this. To reset your Final Cut Pro user preference settings to their original state, do the following:
In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences—the tilde (~) represents your Home folder.
Remove the "com.apple.finalcutpro.plist" file from the Preferences folder.
Remove the "Final Cut Pro User Data" folder from the Preferences folder.
Remove receipts and reinstall Final Cut Pro
Another approach you might consider is reinstalling Final Cut Pro. To do this effectively, you need to remove the application and its receipts, then install Final Cut Pro and use Software Update to install additional updates. You don't have to remove everything that was installed with Final Cut Pro. Follow the steps below to completely reinstall a fresh copy of Final Cut Pro. Note: Make sure that you have your installation discs and serial number handy before starting this.
    Open the Applications folder.
Drag the Final Cut Pro application to the Trash.
    Go to /Library/Receipts.
In the Receipts folder, select the "FinalCutPro.pkg" file.
Choose View > as List to view the contents in a list.
Click the Date Modified column header so you can easily see all of the receipts that were installed at the same time as Final Cut Pro.
Drag the FinalCutPro.pkg receipt to the Trash, as well as any other items that have the same modification date within 3 minutes of the FinalCutPro.pkg's modification date.
Click the Name column header to sort the list alphabetically.
Drag any other receipts whose names begin with "Final Cut Pro" to the Trash.
Insert your Final Cut Pro installation disc and install Final Cut Pro.
When finished, use Software Update (under the Apple menu) to update your software to the latest version.
I started a fresh install, but noticed it never asked me again for my serial number. I was skeptical, but the installation went on and I made it all the way to the last disk, but when I put the Motion disk in the computer seemed to struggle to read the disk and eventually asked for the FCP disk to be put back in which resulted in another error.
I have tried several times since then to get this thing installed but keep failing. I worry about how it never asks me for a serial number. Are there some files that I am not deleting?
I have also tried to install one disk at a time and installing without Content.
    Using a brand new Imac

Not sure if this is related but I've upgraded from FCS 1 to FCS 2 and all went well. I've now started to install all the various application media and Motion fails around 75% through the installation. I've tried to do a disk image of the disk but again that fails approx. 75% of the way through with the error "I/O error"
Tried the Soundtrack Pro media this morning and got through the first disk and again about 75% through disk 2 the installation failed.
Maybe Apple has bought a job lot of 'cheap' DVD's to save some money? I'll pop into an Apple store and see what they have to say!

  • Final Cut Studio bloatware blues

I just purchased a used late-model MacBook Pro and Final Cut Studio.
The MacBook Pro (MBP) has a 120 GB internal hard drive. I made sure to buy a Sonnet Express34 card with extra FireWire ports so I can split the buses (my Canon camcorder has a FireWire bug) and use an external FireWire hard drive without any problem.
One thing I discovered when moving up from Final Cut Pro 4.5 and DVD Studio Pro 2 is that the new Studio is HUGE! Of the 111 GB of usable hard drive capacity in the MBP, only 28 GB remain with Studio and OS 10.4.10 on-board. I haven't even had a chance to install my other non-video software yet.
My concern right now is that I need to find room and something's got to go. I have use for Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, and maybe Soundtrack and maybe LiveType. I am not interested in Motion.
    Any suggestions?

In the Library>Application Support folder, you will find additional content files (templates, sound loops, etc.) that supplement the apps themselves-- this is where nearly all your space is going. If you don't use Motion, there is Motion content you can delete. If you don't use the templates in DVDSP, there's another thing. Look around, and see what you will or won't use. If you accidently trash something, you can always reinstall it.

  • Final Cut Studio

I purchased Final Cut Studio as a new application not as an upgrade. It downloaded to my computer as an upgrade. Could I have purchased an upgrade for a lessor price and still loaded it to my hard drive?

    It downloaded to my computer...
From "Before You Install Final Cut Studio" documentation:
    "Available Disk Space
    • 4 GB of disk space required to install all applications (Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, Soundtrack Pro, Motion, Cinema Tools, LiveType, Compressor, and Apple Qmaster)
    • Additional 42 GB required to install all optional templates, loops, content, and tutorials (may be installed on separate disks):
    • 9 GB for DVD Studio Pro content
    • 8 GB for Motion templates, Motion Series LiveFonts, and tutorial media
    • 8 GB for Soundtrack Pro content
    • 12 GB for LiveType content
    • 5 GB for Apple Pro Training Final Cut Studio Tutorials media"
FCS is available as a download? Where?

  • FINAL CUT STUDIO PRO - CAN'T GET "SMOOTHCAM" EFFECT

    PROBLEM:
FINAL CUT STUDIO PRO - CAN’T GET “SMOOTHCAM” EFFECT
    I use a Macbook Pro 17”
Software: Leopard 10.5. External LaCie Hard Drive 1TB
I upgraded my Computer Software to Leopard and reinstalled Final Cut Pro and Motion on my Laptop. It worked fine with SmoothCam, but as I had lost too much space on my Laptop Harddrive, I decided to reinstall the full program, choosing custom location the external LaCie drive.
Since than Final Cut Pro can’t find SmoothCam and it asks to reinstall SmoothCam.
    ➢ ./library/Plug-Ins/FX /Plug< Not Existing
    ➢ ./library-Application Support/ProApps/Internal Plug-Ins/FX Plug<
    This file is empty.
My project I work on at the moment is a film, where I had done a lot of SmoothCams, but since reinstalling it will not find the effect anymore, it asks to reinstall SmoothCam.
In the mean time I tried several times to start from scratch and reinstall the whole Program, but now I’m not even able to register anymore, it will not accept the correct Registration No.
I would appreciate anybodies help very much.
    Zuckerhut

I had a similar problem when I upgraded my MacBook Pro to leopard as well. This is what I did (after several trial and errors)...
1.) Wipe the computer again and reinstall leopard. I suggest doing a custom install and just leave out things you do not need as they just take up valuable space.
2.) Reinstall FCS but DO NOT let it install the additional content as we will get to that part later. Just install the core programs themselves and uncheck the boxes to install the additional content.
3.) After FCS is installed re-run the installer and install the content but change the location to your external drive. At this point I created a folder on my external called "Final Cut Studio" and Created separate folders for each program and its content.
4.) After you have reinstalled the content on to your external drive, go into each program and point them to where the extra content is kept. <--- This step and step 3 arent really needed, but they make things easy for when you have to wipe your computer. This has saved me LOTS of time on reinstalling FCP because now all you have to do is install the core programs from now on.
You once you start FCP all your effects should be there. The main thing here is to do a complete wipe of the system and rebuild. Not just an uninstall / re-install. As far as your registration problem your going to have to call apple. I had a problem with an old serial number where it would not take it anymore after updating the software to 6.0.2 from 6.0. They can give you a new number to use and it does not take too long.
Hope that helps you out some.
