Additional Management Agent Install questions.

Our Solaris hosts have 2 interfaces. How can I get the Agent to use the non-primary hostname (and thus prefered interface) during install?
Can the prefered hostname be supplied during a silent install?
Modifying the targets.xls and emd.properties files and replacing all "host" entries to the preferred hostname fixes most problems (after a 'default' install chooses primary hostname).
Have I missed any other files needing modification?
After cleaning out orphaned OMS entries & resecuring the agent all "seems" fine. Except - creation of standby databases (using Grid tools) won't work. After manually getting standby database going, creation of DG configuration using Grid tools fails - hosts are not 'registered'. "Registering' and Verification of other working DG Configurations (that can be switchover by DGMGRL) fail with 'hosts not registered'. Can anyone help?
Metalink documents 71911.1 and 73407.1 conflict on how /etc/hosts file should be configured.
Is it:
ip primaryhostname.domain primaryhostname
ip secondaryhostname.domain secondaryhostname
or
ip primaryhostname primaryhostname.domain
ip secondaryhostname secondaryhostname.domain
Any help/insights very appreciated.

Thank you for the suggestions, I will try them.
I have found out since my original posting that BOTH 9i and 10g Dataguard BROKER do NOT support virtual hostnames (as is used when refering to a remote host using secondary network on Solaris). This is NOT going to be fixed until Oracle Grid version 11 - whenever that might be.
We are dropping the use of 9i OMS and 10g Grid control because of this.
All dataguards are being set up using required (secondary/virtual) host names manually.
Switchovers are done manually. (When used, DG Broker would , "knowing better" alter remote archive log destinations during a switchover to the primary network, defeating our requirements)
Some traps for the unwary:
1. Version 1 of 9i DG concepts and admin manual makes no mention that during manual switchover (physical) you need to set, on original primary, remote dest entry to 'defer' and on new primary, remote dest entry to 'enable' . DG Broker , if used to do switchovers, does this for you.
2.DG Broker also does switchovers using 'non-standard/different to documented manual method' commands IE: Using "until change XXXXXXXXXXX" syntax (on Logical Db's for sure, on Physicals - unsure) You will need database links and tnsnames entries pre-configured if you attempt to emulate that method. You will also need to find the right query to get the change number required from originating primary database. I use the documented steps in the manual method for switchovers (with extra steps to enable/defer remote destinations) reliably.
3. 10gV2 Grid control has a BUG when making Standby databases - you must enter log_file_name_convert on 'OFS' screen. Can be identical entries though(and will be when 2 hosts involved).
4.No 9i dataGuard wizard graphs work on secondary network setups.
5.Oracle SR support staff were not aware of the bugs, even though some were documented on Metalink nearly a year ago.
All things considered, me might use 10gV2 Grid control (except for making or controlling DG configurations) for an 'overview' tool as it is now stable enough to use (10gv1 was a shocker).

    take a look at sanur.exe (google) that will allow you to run programs with

    Hi,
    I have downloaded Solaris_GridControl_agent_download_10_2_0_2_0.zip from the Oracle website. I unzipped the file, and copied the solaris folder to C:\OracleHomes\oms10g\sysman\agent_download\10.2.0.2.0\solaris. I tried to install via http again, and got the save error as above.

  • Management Agent service not created with 10gR2 RAC DB install on Win2003?

    Our 10gR2 RAC installation on Win2003 platform didn't create management agent service. After installing and setting up current release of OEM with Grid Control (10.1) and installing Management Agent from 10.1 OEM distribution (install additional management agents option), agent service is up and running. However, there is one small problem:
    All target configuration xml files are created under 10.2 Oracle home, and agent running from 10.1 home does not see them - which means database, listener, etc are not registered in OEM.
    Is this a known problem, and is there solution for it?

  • Installation Issues for Management Agent on AIX

    I am having installation issues with Oracle Management Agent Install using OUI....
    I have done the following:
    i)     download AIX_Grid_Control_agent_download_10_2_0_1.zip to aix machine.
    ii)     unzip , it creates aix directory.
    iii)     unzip "oui_aix.jar " , which is available under aix/oui/
    iv)     pl unjar "oui_aix.jar " , ( jar -xvf oui_aix.jar )
    v)     set AGENT_HOME=/oracle/WD1/oem/
    vi)     chmod –R 777 * from /oracle/WD1/oem/
    vii)     invoke ./runInstaller from aix/oui/Disk1/
    When I invoke runInstaller it asks me for Additional Management Service install but after first screen does check ask Oracle Home and then goes intsall OUI and never asks for OMS and OMS port etc..
    Can I install the Management agent through OUI... What are the steps ?
    Thanks,
    Atul

    I deinstalled the OUI and again re-installed.. but still I cannot get it working.. That is why I was looking that if somebody came accross the same issue... Why it does not ask the OMS page at all.. If some body has installed Management Agent on AIX through OUI pl. respond.
    Thanks

  • When should ZEN Management agent be installed

    I use a standard image that is pushed out with ZEN imaging. This contains
    the ZEN Management agent as part of the build. Therefore, there are a few
    areas in the registry (under
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Novell\Workstation Manager) that are specific
    to the machine that the image was built on. Primarily of concern are the
    following two strings:
    STRFileName="00B0D069CF85_1105073267000"
    SystemGUID="00B0D069CF85172.22.175.1371105073290"
    Any PC that gets this image will therefore get these same registry
    strings, and this causes errors on the inventory side of things. I have
    tried a combination of deleting these keys and / or their values with no
    luck, as "STRFileName" and "SystemGUID" do not recreate or repopulate with
    data from the new PC. Therefore in order to get the PC working with
    inventory, I need to remove the management agent, and then reinstall and
    then all works fine (as these keys are repopulated with data specific to
    the local PC, and not the PC the image was created on).
    Question: Does this mean that in future my images should not include the
    management agent (i.e. it is a post install step), or is there a way
    around this problem?
    Thanks

    I found that when the management agent is installed, the following
    relevent entries are placed in the registry:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Novell\Workstation Manager]
    "Registration Agent"="zenwsreg.dll"
    "Enabled"=dword:00000001
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Novell\Workstation Manager\InvScanner]
    @=""
    "ScannerPath"="C:\\Program
    Files\\Novell\\ZENworks\\Inventory\\NTScan32.exe"
    Rebooting creates additional registry entries in this area, even when
    logging in as 'workstation only', and these new entries contain specific
    information about the PC. Ensuring that any image I use contains only the
    above registry settings (and not any additional ones) means that the
    workstation specific entries are generated correctly (when the newly
    imaged PC is first booted up) and all works fine. To do this I used a bit
    of vbscript as part of the image build, and this is the last thing done
    prior to shutting down the PC and creating the ZEN Image.
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Novell\Workstation
    Manager\PredesktopHelperDLLs]
    "WMPM.DLL"="WMPM.DLL"
    "WMPOLHLP.DLL"="WMPOLHLP.DLL"
    "WMPRTNT.DLL"="WMPRTNT.DLL"
    "WMUSPOL.DLL"="WMUSPOL.DLL"
    "WMGRPPOL.DLL"="WMGRPPOL.DLL"

  • How do I install a management agent

    How do I install a management agent?
    I have OMS installed on Server A.
    I have server B that I need to manage with OMS, how do I install an agent on that?
    There seems to be no clear way of installing an agent, and pointing it to Server A for registration.
    I have tried:
    1. Downloading the management agent from http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oem/htdocs/agentsoft.html
    a. Running the ./runInstaller
    b. It fails with missing .rsp files, I've touched .rsp files in order to get the installer to run
    c. But it does not give me an option to install an agent, only an 'additional service'
    2. The mass installer
    a. I unzipped the agent .zip file into the appropriate directory on Server A
    b. Modified the agentDownload.linux_x64 file
    c. Copied the agentDownload.linux_x64 file to Server B
    d. Run the agentDownload script, with -b option
    i. The script downloaded some files from Server A
    ii. The script quit
    I can't seem to find any real documentation on how to do this that actually makes sense and works.
    I only need to install the agent on a few servers, so I don't need any mass install, surely, how hard can it be?

  • Is OMS needed when install management agent

    I just want to configure SNMP for oracle database, so I install management agent on database server using reponse file like this:
    /scratch/john/linux/agent/runInstaller -silent -responseFile /scratch/john/linux/response/additional_agent.rsp
    but it should confiure OMS_HOST in "additional_agent.rsp".
    so my question is: how to configure SNMP for oracle with less components?

    Thanks!
    You mean dbconsole, but you give a link about grid console, right?
    And the following is figure of "Basic Components of Oracle SNMP Support", whether it means Master Agent can send snmp trap to NMS without Management Agent or Management Service?

    I got the same issue with Windows XP then sometimes the same exe worked. But I tried the other way, you have one more setup file in install directory. Try to run that and see. It may be silly but it worked.

    OMS_HOST=172.16.24.65
    EM_UPLOAD_PORT=1159
    AGENT_REGISTRATION_PASSWORD=cchorcl01
    #AGENT_INSTANCE_HOME=
    #AGENT_PORT=
    b_startAgent=true
    #ORACLE_HOSTNAME=
    #s_agentHomeName=
    EM_INSTALL_TYPE="AGENT"6. then i ran the AgentDeploy.sh script using the following.
    ./agentDeploy.sh -ignorePrereqs AGENT_BASE_DIR=/oem12c/base/agent RESPONSE_FILE=/oem12102/agent.rsp(I ignored the prereqs because, i was getting an error with the hostname and the hostname is correct)
    7. this the following output i am getting after running step 6.

  • Problem with the install of 11.1.0.1.0 Management Agent in silent mode

    I have a server with the operation system windows 2003 and a installation WeblogicServer 10.3.2.
    Now I like install the managemant agent for Grid Control on this server.
    I use silent installation, because the in 11.1.0.1.0 Grid Control no longer supports a GUI-based OUI installation of the agent. (Reference : Master Note for Grid Control 11.1.0.1.0 Installation and Upgrade).
    But the silent installation is not sucessfully.
    I get following errors in the logfile:

    Hi,
    the directory c:\Programme\Oracle\Inventory exist.
    I haven't no further files, in which informations for the silent installation are logged.
    I think, the error "ERROR: ERROR: E-Mail-Adresse nicht angegeben" is the actual problem, but I don't like give the e-mail-adress,
    because I use following command for the installation:

  • How to install and configure management agents on Tru64 Cluster

    We are busy rolling out the Oracle 10g Grid Control to our enterprise and one of our targets is a two-node Tru64 cluster with shared file systems, i.e., each node can see (read/write) the file systems concurrently. Trucluster software is responsible for the clustering management.
    On node1 we have a set of databases each with its own dedicated listener; the same for node2. Each cluster managed service set has its own logical hostname. For example, we have on node1:
    db1 (database)
    listener-db1 (listener for db1)
    node-db1 (logical hostname for db1 service)
    Upon switchover or failover, the database and listener are brought up on node2 and we need to cater for this in our management agent configuration. I am trying to work out how we install and configure the management agents in such a configuration. Has anyone done this or does anyone know how to set up the agents suitably?
    I have already installed the agent on one of the nodes - that worked fine, and I have even managed to start another agent up using the installed software home on the other node using "agentca -f"

    You the Cluster type of configuration. It is documented in the install guide you have

  • Packages error while installing Oracle Management Agent.

    Hi,
    We have configured the oracle grid on our production server.
    Now we also want to include all other database on situated on different server.
    So we are installing oracle management agent software.
    while installiing this software we encounterd following error:
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.Unsatisfied LinkError :/tmp/OraInstall2011-05-04_10-05-58PM /jre/1.4.2/lib/i386/libawt.so :libXp.so.6 :cannot open shared object file:
    No such file or directory.
    Please help me as this is urgent.
    Regards,
    Milan

    You need to install libXp package.
    The rpm which contains this package is libXp-1.0.0-8.i386.rpm. It is located in the /server direrctory of the OS install DVD. You copy this rpm from the DVD and install it using
    # rpm -ivh libXp-1.0.0-8.i386.rpm
    or if you have setup yum or up2date repository:
    yum install libXp.i386

  • Installing a Grid Management agent on AIX 5.3

    I have downloaded the Grid Management Agent 10.2.0.3.0 for Oracle 10G from the oracle downloads website and installed on one of my AIX servers but after running through the installation the server does not show up in Grid Control.
    Our Grid Control is running on RH4 server.
    The platform of the host server i am attempting to install the agent on is AIX5.3
    I downloaded and unzipped the following file AIX_Grid_Control_agent_download_10_2_0_3_0.zip
    I ran the i./runInstaller from the aix/agent directory no errors reported however when I did this it did not show me a OUI page as I expected where I could insert Grid hostname etc
    I assumed after running the installer I would then see the target host appear in my grid control server but no servernmae/agenst/db appears in grid control for this host
    I have read a plethora of help/installation files on this subject matter and there seems to be a variety of different ways users are saying to install.
    Some WebPages/help files say simply run the installer from the root directory of the Enterprise Manager DVD others give a completely different way of installing.
    Can anyone who has successfully loaded on a Grid Management Agent give me any pointers as to:
    1 – Why my installation appears to have failed
    2 – A stepe by step guide on what users need to be added if any, what account I should install under etc

    sorry it has taken me time to post back.

  • Test Manager cannot install Test Agent on selected VMs (trying to create a new environment)

    I am trying to create a new SCVMM environment.
    I picked a bunch of VMs that are up and running.
    I know the administrator credentials for these VMs (It's the same for all of the chosen VMs)
    I have a test controller on my dev machine which is also up and running.
    But I'm getting an error in the Verification step saying -
    "Microsoft test manager cannot install test agent on these machines. Possible causes:
    - Machines are not running or they are not available on the network.
    - The File and Printer sharing exception is not enabled on the machines."
    I have done the following -
    1) Disabled firewalls on all the machines
    2) Network Adapters on all the machines are connected (ON) and their drivers are up to date
    3) Enabled file and printer sharing exceptions on all machines
    Still getting the same error.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks a bunch!

    That's probably a very well written description of what
    you've done... it seemed refreshingly thorough. I'm on the verge of
    a cold or something, with a slightly fuzzy brain, so what I thought
    I read seemed to describe you've done just about everything
    correctly, except for one thing (maybe another)... If you gave the
    button the instance name stepin...
    stepin.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN,
    mouseDownHandler);
    and you could/should change that from MOUSE_DOWN to CLICK
    If that's not the problem, then it is possible the issue
    arises due to the tween. Be sure to have the button instance name
    assigned at both ends of the tween (I'm assuming by classic tween
    you mean a timeline tween). For some reason objects don't like to
    give up some of their past life's properties when moving from one
    frame to the next, so if the beginning of the tween doesn't have an
    instance name, then it's likely that it stays that way when it
    reaches the other end despite you assigning the name there.
    PS - for the stepin button, if you haven't already done so,
    you should open it for editing and draw a rectangle in the 4th
    (Hit) frame that covers the entire area of the text. It will not be
    visible, but will allow clicking between letters in the button...
    making it easier to click on
