Additional Superdrive for Mac Pro

Where can I buy an additional superdrive (or compatible) for my macpro 2.66 and is this a DIY fit?

I did not, but then I googled what that meant (I previously thought it was a software change, not a physical change I had to make to the drive) and now it works like a charm!
For future instances where this becomes a problem to people unsure of what changing the jumper to CS is, on this particular drive, on the back there is a set of 8 pins, in 4 columns of 2. One of these columns has a plastic grey piece covering the pins. Consult your drive's manual, but on the Pioneer 115D, you must relocate the plastic grey piece from the pins farthest to the right to the third column from the right (2nd from the left). This somehow communicates to the drive that it is not the master or the slave drive, but a Cable Select drive, whatever that is. Point is, follow those simple (albeit little known) steps, and the problem will be solved!
Many thanks to those on the board who assisted me with my problem!

  • 2nd SuperDrive for Mac Pro

Has anyone found where to buy a 2nd SuperDrive.
My Mac Pro has the Sony DVD DW-D150A, so I guess I would want to stick with that one rather than the Pioneer.
    Thx

Hi everyone, just a simple question:
To add the second Optical drive, should you set it
    as
    Cable or Slave?
    Thnx already
Apple ships the OEM optical drive in the New Mac Pro
with the jumpers set to Cable Select as default
(anticipating a second optical drive will be
installed). All you have to do is set the second
optical drive also to Cable Select and you should be
on your way. If that doesn't work, just reset the
already installed OEM ( Sony) drive in the Mac Pro to
Master, and then set your new additional opticals
drives to Slave. If that doesn't work for you, then
switch the drives and reset then both to Cable
Select, and if neccessary to Master/Slave...Good luck!
You can't go wrong with a Master-Slave setting. Just be sure that when you're moving the jumps to really study the graphic on the drive or in the manual. You won't hurt anything if you do it wrong, it just won't work.
The Mac that I use doesn't support cable select, so I'm a bit unfamiliar with how drives work these days in the Mac Pro. Master-Slave is the best option since that will obviously work.

  • Additional NIC for Mac Pro

I have done a little poking around and did not see this having been asked before.
Currently I have an original Intel Mac Pro (1.1) that I am looking to replace. One of the things I have used the it for is to run VMWare ESXi, dual booting OS X and ESXi. I know it is not Officially supported but it works well. The big issue is that I have to run either OS X or ESXi. With the newest Mac Pro w/ 12 cores I was thinking about running VMWare Fusion instead but wanted have dedicated NICs for the VMs. I currently teem my NICs in OS X and want to continue doing this so after all of this explination I come to my actual question:
Is there a dual port NIC that is compatible with the new Mac Pro? I di dnot see one on the Apple Store and looking at Intel's site they have nothing about comapbility with OS X pr Mac.

Sonnet Tech is an independent maker of peripheral cards for the Mac, and has been around for a while. Their stuff works the way they say it does (but you DO need to read the specifications carefully to avoid surprises).
The company seems stable. They are not anybody's "House Brand", but are sold by many outlets. Just looking at the other cards they offer should give you the idea they have a fairly broad product line.
Sometimes you can see that what they have done is to take a Big Chip that implements most of a solution, and package it with Mac drivers on a circuit card with their name on it. If that works (and in most cases it does indeed) I have no problem with that. I do not resent that they may not design their own chip internals to make their solutions. I have bought some of their cards before, and they work as advertised.

  • Where can I find internal DVD replacement for Mac Pro 2008?

My optical DVD drive on my Mac Pro (3,1) has been dead for a good long while.
Looking for a cheap replacment.  Just saw OWC stopped carrying them.  Any leads?

For Mac Pro 3,1 and earlier (2008 and previous) you need an IDE/ATA drive like this one:

  • GeForce 7300 GT Upgrade Kit for Mac Pro?? G5?

    Hi,
Just found this on the apple store:
    http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects/ukstore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=1643C421&nplm=M A567
"NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT Graphics Upgrade Kit for Mac Pro"
Why is it only for mac pro? its PCI express & my g5 is one of the late 2005 models and it has PCI Express so am i wrong in thinking that this should work fine or is it something to do with the new intel architecture?
If i remember correctly i could have chosen this card or a very similar one when i configured my G5.
    Thanks

That card is only for the Mac Pro, as it says.
When you ordered your G5, you had the choice of the nVidia 6600 (or 6600LE), nVidia 7800GT, or the Quadro FX 4500.
The 7800GT that you could have ordered with your G5 is close in performance to the ATi X1900XT that is an option on the Mac Pro. The 7300GT that you're looking at is an entry level card, which the 7800GT definitely is not.
The 7300GT and the X1900XT are both Mac Pro only due to the ROM on the card, which is designed to work with the EFI booting hardware that the Mac Pro uses. The G5s used Open Firmware, which requires a different ROM on the video card. So, even though both your G5 and the Mac Pro are PCI-Express based, these video cards are not compatible.
Now, most PCI-Express cards that you look at for, say, external SATA, will probably work in both the G5 and the Mac Pro. You'd still want to check the specs to be sure, however.
If you're looking for a new video card to replace your (presumably) nVidia 6600, your only real option is the ATi X1900 G5 edition. This is a different card than the X1900XT that's offered for the Mac Pro.

  • ATI 5770 1GB Video Card For Mac Pro dvi hdmi cable

I am sending video signal over a 50FT HDMI To DVI from my Mac Pro (3,1) via ATI 5770 1GB Video Card For Mac Pro (5.0 GT/s) (181062917108) and I cannot get a constant signal to my TV. The signal stays on for a few seconds or several hours or my TV (Samsung) says there is no signal or I get just a gray static screen.
I never had a problem before with my previous video card the 512MB nVidia GeForce 8800GT with a 25ft long cable. Any ideas people?

A cable of about 5 meters (16 ft) can be manufactured to Category 1 specifications easily and inexpensively by using 28 AWG (0.081 mm²) conductors.[114] With better quality construction and materials, including 24 AWG (0.205 mm²) conductors, an HDMI cable can reach lengths of up to 15 meters (49 ft).[114]
    from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI
You may need a higher-quality cable or a lower resolution for your display to make this work without an HDMI Repeater.

  • "fire wire" video capture cards for mac pro

....Have Power Mac ver. 10.9.5 system Maverick w/ 4 MB RAM & am trying to locate hardware for:
acquiring "FIRE WIRE" video capture cards for mac pro.... ? Any suggestions....?(Just purchased Adobe CS 5 premium)

Your question doesn't make much sense.
What type of Mac Pro do you have? Is it the new black cylinder or the old style silver tower?
Firewire is built-in to the old models & the new Mac Pros can use Thunderbolt to Firewire converters to capture from Firewire sources.
    Maybe like this http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD464ZM/A/apple-thunderbolt-to-firewire-adapte r
Many older cameras used Firewire for capturing, but that has been replaced by other connection types. What are you trying to capture from?

  • Reviews for ATI Radeon HD 4870 Graphics Upgrade Kit for Mac Pro?

There's no review at the Apple Store on this [ATI Radeon HD 4870 Graphics Upgrade Kit for Mac Pro (Early 2009 or Early 2008)|http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB999ZM/A?fnode=MTY1NDA5OQ&mco=NDE4NDMx OA]. Googled and found nothing related to the Mac kit. Mostly PC based.
Should I consider this card? I need a spare/replacement graphics card for my Mac Pro (early 2008). The NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT card has failed me twice.

    Just came out on barefeats:
    http://www.barefeats.com/nehal14.html
Shows new drivers with 285, also compares 4870.
If you play a lot of games on the windows side, you might also want to consider the 4890. I has recently became flashable (if you're into that kinda thing). It has a lot more leeway to be overclocked. Close to (or if your lucky) hitting the 1 Ghz core clock speed, gives very close comp to the 285, and at fraction of the price. You can get an XFX 4890 on newegg for $195.

  • Accessories for Mac Pro

Hi, guys. I have a problem here. I am looking for something that can protect against dust or something like that. Because my room is really not that clean, which means there's a lot of dust. I am worrying about the Mac Pro that will "eat" some dust. Question is " Where can I buy that kind of accessories for Mac Pro, like clothing or case?"
Thanks a lot. Oh, I forget there is also a LED cinema display that need to be protected

    Clean your room. Nah, J/K
    (no, but seriously...clean your room)
Here are some neat looking ACD covers.

  • Printer wireless for Mac Pro and  I pad.?

Need to get a printer wireless for Mac Pro  also can be use with the IPad  this is possible? Thank  you

Any of the current HP e-Print capable printers support AirPrint capabilities without even having to enable the e-Print stuff that's purely HP.
Also, make sure your exisiting network router at home supports multicast protocols.  The majority of retail routers support this and you won't have issues, but I've run into problems with carrier issued modem/router combo units from Comcast made by Arris that don't support multicast and other protocols and hence, will not allow for the necessary discovery protocols for AirPrint to work across the wired or wireless network.  In cases like that, the fix is to place those units in "bridge mode" and then use your own router behind it that doesn't restrict that capability.  Just FYI.

Is it possible for Mac Pro 724 Windows xp to install?

I really don't like any "closed" or sealed technology.
About half way down the page are bare 2.5" enclosures for $50 range

    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/on-the-go
Grief! Yes, that is costly "solution" I looked on Amazon for USB2 for SATA drives and $40.
For that kind of price, MacGurus specializes in some hot-swap FW/USB/eSATA cases so you can use it with multiple drives (giant floppy).

    Thank you.

    No.
The entire enclosure is tuned for both external jack placement, EMI-RFI radiation, airflow, and for cooling. You need exactly the correct shell and fans for the electronics you wish to install in it.
