  • Flash Catalyst "Panini" Preview available at Adobe Labs

    I'm not sure how many of you have had time to keep up with what is going on at Adobe Max this year, but some of the keynote videos have demonstrated Flash Catalyst "Panini".  There is a preview download of the future version of Flash Catalyst available at the Adobe Labs site here:
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashcatalyst_panini/
    It's beta software, so all the usual caveats apply (you can learn more from the link above).  Apart from the advances made in Flash Catalyst "Panini", the most immediate pieces are that this preview version can co-exist with a Flash Catalyst CS5 install (so no need to uninstall Fc CS5 to try it) and that this particular preview build doesn't open Fc CS5 projects.
    Hopefully you find it to be an improvement and we welcome your feedback.

    I found a bit of information about serial numbers on the Panini download page:
    These downloads provide 30-day trial versions of Flash Catalyst "Panini"  for Mac OS and Windows. You can extend the preview release by entering a  valid Flash Catalyst CS5 serial number. If you own a copy of the  Creative Suite 5 editions of Design Premium, Web Premium, Production  Premium or Master Collection, you can also extend the use of Flash  Catalyst "Panini" by requesting an extension serial number.
    Though it looks like the extension serial number system isn't active until later this month.

  • Two accounts not updated with 1 yr sub from Adobe Max Attendance

    Hi,
    Two members (out of 8) of our group were not updated with 1 year subscriptions from attending Adobe Max and should have been.  How can I best work with Adobe to get this rectified?
    Thanks,
    Brandon

    Hi Brandon
    If you could send me a private message with the following details for each member I will look into this:
    Customer name
    Country
    Adobe ID/email used to register at Adobe MAX
    Current Adobe ID/email
    Thanks

  • What was your coolest take-away from Adobe MAX 2014?

    What inspired you?
    What was the story or lesson you could not wait to share with your team?
    What made you want to start building when you got home?

    Thanks for the link fortunegreen- it's hard to find updates as not much communication is coming from BC on official channels (blog, twitter, emails etc).
    From the recording it sounds like there is no roadmap....and with Liquid rollout taking up the rest of the year, not much is going to change to the product until sometime in 2015. A list of options (below) was offered to the attendees of Max to poll on....I do hope the request for input from partners is going to be wider than that if it's going to influence development decisions.
    1. Incremental fixed on core modules (evolutionary)
    2. Start rewriting modules on top of REST APIs and open platform
    3. Fix e-commerce - taxes, stripe, shipping etc
    4. Visual e-mail marketing editor
    5. Build a mobile app to enable end-users to manage their business from phone
    6. Invest into InContextEditing
    7. Online marketing features - A/B testing, advanced targeting, re-targeting
    8. Uptime and infrastructure
    I was glad to see the attendees voted strongly for e-commerce developments (50% - proving it's fallen way behind expectations), and intersted to see in the comments that many thought AWS hadn't offered any significant improvements, if anything it's been unreliable.
    Ultimately it's still worrying that there is no mention of BC from the core Adobe presentations, and with a full BC site subscription being close to that of Creative Cloud, it's surprising that there is not more investment in BC...it seems a very small team (working incredibly hard no doubt, but still requiring the help of partners to explain and present the recent developments) and this is probably the main reason why things are moving so slow. There simply isn't resource.
    I hope we'll see some better communication from BC on what's happening soon, and that a voting system can be anabled partner-wide to steer future developments.
    Fingers crossed.

  • Stoping a group of child components from listening for mouseover event.

    Hi,
    I am trying to create a type of navigation system in this little app i'm working on which executes a function when the mouse is rolled over a canvas container. There are four of these canvas container which carry child components like labels, image, and text controls. These canvas containers have an initial alpha values of 0.5 so i want the fade effect to gradually animate to 1.0 when the mouse is rolls over it. When the mouse rolls out i want the alpha to animate the alpha values back to 0.5. I have sucessfuly done this here is a sample code.
         public function rollOverEffect(e:Event):void
              var ROFadeEffect:Fade=new Fade(e.target);
              ROFadeEffect.duration=500;
              ROFadeEffect.alphaFrom=0.5;
              ROFadeEffect.alphaTo=1;
              ROFadeEffect.end();
              ROFadeEffect.play([e.target]);
         public function rollOutEffect(e:Event):void
              var ROFadeEffect:Fade=new Fade(e.target);
             ROFadeEffect.duration=500;
              ROFadeEffect.alphaFrom=1;
              ROFadeEffect.alphaTo=0.5;
              ROFadeEffect.end();
              ROFadeEffect.play([e.target]);
    So this is working but not perfect...everytime my mouse rolls over the canvas it comes to life (Fades in).....but when it rolls over its child components, it fades out. I really dont follow why. Do i need to stop these child components from recieving events or what
    here is the MXML code for the UI

    Hi l33tian,
    Check the below code with small modifications that I have made to your code in order to make it work...
    Observe the changes that I have made in your rollOver and rollOut functions and also in the mxml code in which I have taken a seperate canvas for all the canvases and added the mouseOver and mouseOut events on this canvas instead of outer canvas so that we can eliminte the problem of FadeOut when we mouseOver on the child components of canvas...

  • Custom Video Player from Adobe Photoshop to Catalyst

    I create a video player in Photoshop (a .psd file, obviusly) and I want to make it work in Flash Catalyst without using the standart skin o' video player from there. It's possible?
    if so, how would the procedure? Something very complicated?
    Thank you.
    @eldermarx

    Hi there,
    You can't skin the video player the way you can skin wireframe components like a button or data list. However, you can create a custom component that contains your video, and several buttons that control playback using Catalyst interactions.
    You would place your video in the artboard, set its controls to "No Chrome", and then add your play, pause, and stop buttons. You'd need to wire up interactions to these buttons to play, pause, and stop the video.

  • Wireframe Components list smaller than Flash Builder Components list?

    Hi All,
    I noticed that in Flash Catalyst the WIREFRAME COMPONENTS tab only has a limited set of components (Button, Checkbox, Data List, HScrollbar, HSlider, Radio Button, Text Input, Toggle Button, VScrollbar, VSlider). Flash Builder, on the other hand, has other components not in this list (Combo Box, Color Picker, Progress Bar, Tab Bar, etc).
    For all the components in FB not in the wireframe list of FC, is the designer/developer supposed to add custom components in the Library tab of FC? Will Adobe add more to the list of wireframe components in future FC releases?
    Thanks for any inputs!

    Hey FutureSplasher,
    You're right, the Flash Catalyst Wireframe Components list is a subset of the Spark component set exposed in Flash Builder.
    In Catalyst we expose special tooling, properties, and experience around each spark component.
    It is definitely our intent moving forward to continue to expose more and more Spark components, but as opposed to Builder each component we add requires some special work around exposing the user experience of working with, creating and manipulating that component.
    I absolutely encourage you to leverage the fxpl (library) workflows to create and import your own components (and share with other Catalyst friends online if you feel so inclined ).
    In the meantime, if you have specific high priority component requests, we'd love all the feedback we can get.  Feel free to post a list of a couple high priority components here, or post them to the ideas site so we can get other users voting for them: http://ideas.adobe.com/flashcatalyst
    Thanks for posting!

  • Nokia at Adobe MAX

    For those of you attending MAX in a few weeks, wanted to let you know that Nokia will have 3 sessions and will be sharing an exhibit area with Adobe where we'll be showcasing some of the Open Screen Project Fund winners.
    More details here: http://www.mobileperry.com/2009/09/nokia-at-adobe-max.html
    I'll be there as will several other Forum Nokia colleagues and look forward to meeting you.

    Yeah, they invited me to speak about Spry, so why not. Even though my
    session didn't go as well as i practised. I recieved allot good
    comments about it from some attendees, so i definitely converted some
    souls ;). And talking with the community was great as well, allot of
    feedback gotten about the Spry framework it self.
    Also finally got the chance to meet Scott Fegette, so that was cool as
    well. It was a successful MAX I think, and Spry really well
    represented among the other sessions. And by the sounds of DW CS5 is
    gonna rock peoples worlds with the upcoming changes.
    As long you guys go to MAX 2010 it will be fine ;). I still feel
    bummed out about missing you last year.
    I already heard from David powers that you are currently traveling the
    world visiting other Adobe Teams. Really cool.
    And can't wait to get my hands on the Spry 2.0

  • Spry coverage at Adobe MAX 2009, LA

    Hello,
    Not everybody has the time to join this amazing event, I was so fortunate to be invited to speak at Adobe MAX. So I thought I would post a nice roundup of what is happening here and what the speakers where talking about. I'm Spry enthusiast my self, so I'm visiting / visited all Spry related sessions, labs, and BYOL (Bring your own laptop). The sessions are recorded, and will be placed on the tv.adobe.com once the have been uploaded. There are already a few Adobe MAX session on tv.adobe so the Spry sessions will come in as well.
    Mondays sessions:

    As long you guys go to MAX 2010 it will be fine ;). I still feel
    bummed out about missing you last year.
    I already heard from David powers that you are currently traveling the
    world visiting other Adobe Teams. Really cool.
    And can't wait to get my hands on the Spry 2.0

  • Request from Dan Tull - Adobe - On Performance Issues

    All,
    Many may have stopped looking the the "Why is LR 3 so slow thread" given its size, etc.  He has suggested a more granular approach to try and keep the data empirical and as comparitive and information filled as possible.  Here is the request Dan made in that thread last evening..  He is on vacation this weekend.  If you are experiencing any of these, consider starting or contributing to a specific thread on a topic.
    FROM DAN TULL - ADOBE
    Seems like it might be worth spinning off one new forum thread for  each issue that has distinct symptoms. Some that come to mind are:
    -  The slow loading of grid thumbnails issue (I have at least some ability  to reproduce this one, so I'm less concerned about it).
    -  Excessive memory consumption (to the point of swapping) issues,  especially on 64-bit
    - Issues where the cursors for tools (spot  and localized correction brush, IIRC) are slow even if no adjustment is  being applied.
    - General Develop slowdowns since Beta2 (especially  crop and localized corrections).
    - Excessive CPU usage (preview  building?) that doesn't readily idle down.
    Posts to those threads should  essentially be of the form:
    I see this issue, here's the contents  of my "System Info" dialog (in the help menu) in Lightroom. In addition,  information about the kinds of photos (DNG, Raw, JPEG, Camera  Make/Model, # of MP), whether they're on internal or external drives,  resolution and number of monitors wouldn't hurt to include. Bonus points  if there are videos of the issue occurring, along with monitoring tools  (task manager, activity monitor, or event loggers) in view of the  capture. It's amazing how often a video provides a clue that doesn't  come out otherwise.
    For those not seeing a given issue that are brave and  motivated to help, feel free to _try_ to replicate the results of the  unfortunate ones. Scientific rigor is really useful here. Change one  thing at time. If it makes the problem happen change it back and see if  it goes away. Repeat  until you're sure that it's not a fluke.
    Ideally,  these threads should have a bit less chatter, but obviously there's only  so much that can be done to control that.
    In all these cases, some of the  things to try:
    - Reducing/increasing monitor resolution or window  size.
    - Switching off panels in Develop or using the 2003 process  version.
    - Smaller/larger images (also JPEG versus Raw or  different raws).
    - Automatically write XMP on/off.
    -  Anti-virus and disk indexing software on/off.
    - Digitizer tablets  enabled/disabled.
    - Reproduce the issue in the most minimal  catalog you can.
    DT

    This same thing happens to me as well only it's not my zoom thats the real problem, it's Draw cutting off my stroke to process and then leaping in a straight line to the end of my stroke. I think it might be the 4th gen iPads, cause you and I are running the same iPad.

  • Adobe Max 2014 - Roadmap discussions, (Shopify) Liquid and E-Commerce updates?

    I saw there was a session at Max called 'BC Roadmap open table with Alexandru Costin'. I'd be very intersted to see a video or write up of what was discussed here?
    I've been spending a lot of time looking at Liquid, using Shopify resources as obviously they are far more developed. I do see great potential for it on BC, but it's been 3 years in the making and I'm hoping it can make a big difference, quickly. My fear is it will take a lot more time to be fully effective, for BC to catch-up, and meanwhile other platforms are moving far ahead.
    I have e-commerce clients getting impatient and frustrated with BC limitations, and while Liquid may give us better access to data, there is still a lot of engineering to make BC e-commerce as proficient as Shopify, Magento etc. I'm sure there is a huge wish list from partners that need to be addresses to really make BC e-commerce powerful again.
    I don't want to move clients from BC but am sorely tempted to move a client who is ready for a rebuild onto Shopify....the thinking being that at least learning Liquid is going to be beneficial on both platforms. But out-of-the-box, Shopify is offering a lot my clients want now....on page cart, one page checkout, quick views, product detail to detail navigation, catalogue level SEO, smart collections, filtered menus with product tagging, Facebook store, POS integration etc etc.
    For us to keep the faith with BC we really need some idea of the roadmap, and a timeline that can be committed to. I'm hoping that some good news will be shared from Max soon....

  • Wireframe components panel

    I just loaded/opened flash catalyst cs5.5 and I can't find the wireframe components panel. I have a layers panel and project library panel but no wireframe component panel. Any help, please.

  • Adobe Max 2011 Attendee

    I was at Adobe Max 2011 and promissed 1 year of Creative Cloud.  I have not heard anything from Adobe Max about activating my complimentary 1 year membership.  Should I sign up now, and pay?  Will I be refunded?  Was the 1 year promissed just a bait and switch or is it going to happen sometime real soon?  I have sent out 10 different e-mails about this to Adobe with no response....
    Please help!  I want my Creative Cloud now as Adobe promissed!

    I am having the same issue. I never received an email about the 1-year subscription to Creative Cloud for MAX attendees.  I have sent 3 different emails and called customer support 3 times. Each time I called them, I had to explain to them what Adobe MAX is?!? After I explained Adobe MAX and the subscription to Creative Cloud, I was told they will research my issue and get back to me. I am still waiting and I started this in the middle of May. Has anybody had any luck?
