  • Getting started in Developing extensions for Dreamweaver CC

    Hi,
i'm looking for info on how to get started developing extensions for DW CC. Specifically:
    1. guides, tutorials
    2. API reference
What i'm looking to be able to do is, among others:
    1. add elements for inserting into the "insert" panel/menu
    2. add panels.
    3. be able to drag elements from that panel into the design
    4. be able to identify tags in the web page as special tags. like how jquery UI tags are identified and have this little hovering label
    5. be able to develop specialized property views for special tags. like how jquery ui tags have special properties, once i pressed that little hovering label thing.
One question that answering can really help - can say the guides for CS5 be a good starting point, and from there figure out what to do via the extendscript toolkit?
of are there later guides that i can use?
    Regards,
    Gal.

    Hi Gal,
I quote from an very old note in my library:
True, the Adobe documentation on extensions creation is very slim, especially if you are looking at the latest releases. What I think you should do is to look back to the origins. First of all the SDK offers great examples (from 2003):
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm?event=extensionDetail&extid=1009962
Also there are two great books: Dreamweaver MX Extensions by Laura Gutman and Building Dreamweaver 4 & UltraDev 4 Extensions by Tom Muck and Ray West. I believe you may read free chapters online in places such Safari library or Google books.
The books are old, you have to understand and adapt for the new versions, but in essence everything stays the same.
... and here another Adobe link:
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/dreamweaver/cs/extend/dreamweaver_cs5_extending.pdf (see page 2 "Creating an extension")
On the other hand I'm sure you could ask well known, long-established developers. Some of them roam through our forum.

  • I have been trying to uninstall several extensions for firefox. Nothing currently on the help site has resolved it.

I have been trying to uninstall several extensions for firefox. I'm told by the Add-Ons window that these extensions will be uninstalled when I restart firefox, but they come back every time I restart. I've tried clearing the extensions cache from my firefox profile and it does not work. Following the steps in all of the active questions regarding this issue among other users have yielded no results. Nothing currently on the help site (which I've combed through for the last three hours) has helped.
Most of the extensions I'm now trying to uninstall are old ones that stopped functioning/being compatible with one of the more recent updates of firefox. The rest are toolbars I've never used because they're unsightly and clutter up my screen
    * What I wound up doing was installing the newest of the newest versions of firefox (it's at 5.0 or something now, I think). That just made all the plugins, add-ons, and extensions I wanted to get rid of obsolete and it auto-removed them on its own.

I do really appreciate you taking the time out to try and offer some solutions though. Thank you very much for your effort!

  • Where is "Google Web Toolkit Developer Plugin for Firefox?"

I can not find this plug in for the version of Firefox I have 3.6.8, even though it already runs with it?
I can not find Google Web Toolkit Developer Plugin for Firefox for Firefox 3.6.8 even though I already have Google Web Toolkit Developer Plugin for Firefox running on a version of Firefox 3.6.8 on other computers.
    # There is no regular information that tells you how to get this plugin as there is with other plugins.
    # When GWT Devmode loads the Firefox brower, it says "missing plugin." you click to install, and it can't find it.
    # I know that I have previously been able to install Google Web Toolkit Developer Plugin for Firefox version 1.0.7511 installed on Firefox 3.6.8 on another machine. But I'm migrating to this one.

    Hi richkatz,
I'm on FF3.6.2 and today, I encounter the same problem.
I got the solution by opening the download page in another tab. Then the firefox message switched from "Look for Plugin" to "Autorise FF to install the plugin".
Here is the URL of my new tab, hoping that it works for FF3.6.8 : https://dl-ssl.google.com/gwt/plugins/firefox/gwt-dev-plugin.xpi

  • Video downloading extensions for Firefox?

    Hiya,
    I am looking for an extension for Firefox so I can download videos from webpages such as YouTube, Google video, MySpace etc. I am really not sure what to do for a couple of reasons;
1.) I'm not sure if they are illegal or if using them to download videos from these sites would be illegal, and I don't want to do anything against the law. I am confused, as common sense tells me it must be illegal, yet the extensions are listed on the official Firefox Add Ons site, so why would they endorse or allow something that encourages people to violate copyright?
2.) If they are legal, I don't know which one to get, there are about a dozen on the Mozilla Add Ons site. I'd like to hear from anyone who knows one that works and is easy and secure to use.
Can anyone advise me on these two issues? I'd be most grateful, Thanks.

I am more familiar with extensions than plug-ins. I'm not actually sure of the difference between the two.
I can't say what file type exactly, as I'm getting it so I can download useful videos I find in the future, so I'm not sure which type now. All I can say is I am interested in the sites I mentioned in my first post.
Here are links to the extensions on the Firefox Add-Ons site that I'm looking at. As you can see, with ten extensions avaliable to download videos, I am confused as to which one to get (and also as to whether their use is legal.)

  • Why is there no updates to the firefox throttle add-ons ? Is there an alternative? throttle is Bandwidth utilization throttling and monitoring extension for Firefox

Why is there no updates to the firefox throttle add-ons ? Is there an alternative? throttle is Bandwidth utilization throttling and monitoring extension for Firefox

Well, it's probably one of two things: either the awesome dude(tte) who developed this awesome extension was tired of updating or the changes in FFox software architecture carried out between version 3.x and 4+ created challenges that were too difficult for him to surmount or a combination of both. Honestly, I love Mozilla but I think they dropped the ball on the throttle issue. It's such an obvious and necessary function and it's so easy to implement. They should have included it a long time ago as in built feature. And, if you are browsing and looking at this post and you agree. Add a suggestion in mozilla.org. The more of us asking for this function, the better.
Meanwhile, I have the following solution for you:
Solution 0.6.9.23.11 (DIY Version of my Solution ):
Setting Up a Separate Portable Firefox 3.6.x that runs independently of and simultaneously to your latest version of Firefox
    Get FireFox Portable 3.6.24:
    http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable/localization#legacy36
It's a portable app, meaning that it's got all it's profiles and preference and application files in the same directory. It won't compete with your current installation of Firefox, has it's own separate extension folder etc...
    Get Firefox Throttle 1.1.6
http://firefox-throttle.en.softonic.com/ (I couldn't find it in the official mozilla site)
It will be flagged as incompatible with even that old version of firefox (but it isn't). You just need to turn off compatibility checking. You can do that with this extension:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/?src=search
If you have Bookmarks you want to port to the portable (bad pun intend), backup them up to bookmarks.json file on your desktop and import them to the portable version. You can export/import more stuff using FEBE addon but that's a whole world of headaches if you don't your doing.
Many of your extensions favourites extensions will no longer work on FFox 3.6.x but if, in that same addon's page, you look around until you find a link to previous versions of the addon, you will notice that the compatibility info is right below the version numbers. Just download and install the latest version that is compatible with you 3.6.x....
Voila mon ami! Your FFox 3.6 portable has just become your own private Download Mule whom you can throttle to your hearts content (ever throttle a real Mule??? I wouldn't try it, personally...) Do your regular browsing in another (unthrottled) browser and do your big downloads in the Mule...
If you want to keep using your brand spanking new Firefox for other types of browsing while using this portable Mule edition for the downloads, just add -p -no-remote to the shortcut leading to your Firefox Portable Mule edition.
For example, my taskbar shortcut to my Firefox Portable is:
    ""C:\Program Files (x86)\FirefoxPortableLegacy36\FirefoxPortable.exe"
    I just changed it to:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\FirefoxPortableLegacy36\FirefoxPortable.exe" -p -no-remote
This will make it occupy it's own independent instance and I can use the both my Firefox Nightly and the Firefox Portable editions at the same time (each one, using a different profile ie. extensions, cookies, password, cache etc).
If you're on Linux, you can just run this on Wine and set the Windows Version to Windows 2000 in the Wine config,
If you want to get rid of the Portable Apps splash screen, click here:
    http://www.ghacks.net/2011/06/06/getting-rid-of-portableapps-splash-screens/
Solution 0.6.9.23.11 (Non-DIY Version of my Solution):
Download my preconfigured but SWAGGED-THE-HECK-UP PortableFirefox 3.6
Having realized that some of you may find the above to be daunting. I took my own customize firefox portable, took out all my data and compressed the folder (it's portable, so it'll run as soon as you unzip it).
    Here is a screenshot:
    http://www.mediafire.com/?o95nkwo8y6q535j
    Here is the download link:
    http://www.mediafire.com/?xdw87ivf3184u2s
Don't forget to modify your Start/Taskbar shortcuts:
"C:\wherever you decide to put it\FirefoxPortableLegacy36-Swagged-UP!\FirefoxPortable.exe"
    I just changed it to:
    "C:\wherever you decide to put it\FirefoxPortableLegacy36-Swagged-UP!\FirefoxPortable.exe" -p -no-remote

  • Firefox running under Linux Mint (based on Ubuntu) 12 (KDE) won't install extensions for Firefox

Linux Mint (based on Ubuntu) 12, KDE desktop
    Firefox 10.0
Started up Firefox right after Mint was installed. On the add-ons page video download helper was shown as a featured extension and I installed it, then rebooted when prompted. After that, Firefox would never install another extension again. Just gives download error.
I google searched and in a forum I found a post about uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox. I tried it. First time I started it up, it installed video download helper again, but then would not install any other extension after that. I tried numerous extensions I '''KNOW''' are working in Firefox 10.0 because they are working in Firefox over on my Win 7. Everytime I get a download error, either from the addons site or from the Add-ons Manager in Firefox.
Someone told me on the Mint forums that I needed to add a subdirectory on a certain directory, so I did that. Didn't work.
It seems Ubuntu disables the root, or cripples it, and I guess Mint does too. You can still use sudo when doing things in Ubuntu (and Mint I would assume, since it's based on Ubuntu) but you can't get true 'superuser' access as I understand it. But, I don't think this would have any bearing on the problem, or my search of the Mint forums would have come up with all kinds of threads screaming about this.

Problem solved - it was caused by an add-on called "PDF Download 3.0.0.2)
To fix - in Firefox :
Click on '''Tools''' command (top of screen)
    Select '''Extensions'''
click on "'''disable''' button beside '''PDF Download'''
    Close Firefox and restart it.
Clicking on any pdf file should open a new tab now and the document will appear there.

  • How to install a local (not global) extension for firefox as part of a desktop setup program.

    Hey Folks,
I am working on a desktop application and as part of that applications install, if we detect that firefox is installed, we want to install an extension we wrote. For the firefox upgrade urls to work in the future we seem to need to install the plugin as a local plugin. Therefore the following does not work:
    firefox.exe -install-global-extension extension.xpi
My question is, what is the correct way to install this plugin as a local extension for the current user?
If this is not possible and we have to install our plugin as a global extension as show above, we run in to the following problem.
    1. Let's say firefox 3.6 is installed and we install our extension as a global extension, it works fine
    2. Now, The user updates to firefox 4, it detects our plugin needs an update to work with firefox 4
    3. The firefox update code runs into an error when trying to update the global extension. We get a very generic error saying there was a problem updating the addin.
I should also note that for reasons not important to this thread we have to host the extension on our own servers and not as part of mozilla.

The command line switch -install-global-extension is no longer supported in Firefox 4.

  • Zeroconf extension for Firefox

Is there any kind of Extension/Add-on for Firefox to support Zeroconf/mDNS/Bonjour?
Basically I would like to use Firefox to resolve local domain names (myHost.local) to local IP addresses on my LAN using mDNS as defined in RFC 6762. This is also known as Zero Configuration Networking and is the technique used by Apple's Bonjour software add-on.
This feature is supported in Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Safari. Why is there no support for Zeroconf/mDNS/Bonjour in Firefox?
Are there any 3rd party add-ons which will work safely to support Zeroconf?
