Address Auto-complete

This has always bothered me about safari. In IE and Firefox you can hit control-enter to add www. and .com to your addresses or shift enter for .net and control shift enter for .org. Anywho is there an equivalent for safari, because I am lazy. Thanks.

Hi,
So if you type say for example "tiffany", in the Address bar & click return it it does not bring up this - http://www.tiffany.com/International.aspx ?
It does add the www. & the.com, If yours doesn't then there is something not right.

  • Can't disable Web Address Auto-complete in Safari nor Firefox

    Hi there,
    I am trying to disable the web address auto-complete in order to access my Intranet Server. I tried configuration inside Web Browser (firefox) but doesn't work. Seems to be system configuration since is the same with Safari. If I enter the address http://myserver:8080 always autocompletes to http://www.myserver.com:8080 and can't access the Intranet web server...
    Thanks in advance for the help.
    Pepe
    Mac OSX 10.6.2

    Safari and Firefox, both have a configuration utility to solve this. In Firefox, writing about:config in the address bar and look for the features that contains the prefix www and the suffix .com, clear those two fields and that's it.
    So, the problem was browser related, not system related.
    Thanks

  • Mail address auto complete???

    On the 3G with OS 2.2 when you started an email address, say with the letter M, up would come the most used addresses that started with M.
    Now with 3Gs and OS 3.0, when you start with M, up comes contacts I have never sent an email to at all.
    Any idea what happened? is this a setting somewhere? a bug?
    It certainly make emailing a LOT more difficult in the new OS
    thanks for any tips....
    tom

    I am having a problem with auto-complete in email as well. With OS 2.2, if I typed "M", it would take a split second before names or email addresses in the "M" category would pop-up. Now, after the OS 3.0 upgrade, if I compose an email and type "M", it takes 4-5 seconds before the list of "M" contacts pops-up. This annoys the heck out of me!!! I feel like I stepped back in time.
    I have three email accounts: One exchange, and two Yahoo accounts. Any suggestions welcome!!!

  • Weird address auto complete problem in 8.0.2 HP3

    I just updated to 8.0.2 HP3 from HP2 last week. I do my address book sort by last name, first name. So when I type in a last name in a new email in WebAcccess, for example, one of my colleagues has the same last name as 3 other users in our Novell Address Book, I used to type,
    Smith,
    Then I would type the first letter of his first name after the comma and a space, now when I hit comma key, it immediately puts the last name only into the address space and starts a new address lookup. So the only way I can sort through all the "Smiths" is to type Smith and leave out the comma, then hit the arrow key up or down.
    Is that functioning normally or is this a bug in HP3? In HP2, I could hit comma and continue typing first name and the auto complete would work correctly. Also, WebAccess agent and app is on SLES 11 SP1.

  • Mail 3.1 Address Auto Completion is Possessed!

    Very strange glitch: Automatically complete addresses option is enabled, and sometimes when I try to add more than one address to the TO or CC field, entering the second name sets off a string of repeated characters that can only be stopped by deleting the entire line of addressing. For example, let's say I type in "Bill" and it auto fills the right addressee. Then I type in a second name, say "Jim" -- what comes up is "jjijimjim jim jim jim jim jim jim jim " Hitting DELETE makes "jim" appear; every key makes "jim" appear. Doesn't matter what name goes in second; it (not 'jim') is repeated.
    I've tried turning off this option and restarting but it comes back as long as this is enabled. Mail works without this feature but I LIKE this feature! I can address multiple addresses from the address book function, just not using the auto complete.
    Thoughts? Thanks for any suggestions.

    I can only confirm that I have the same problem, both in Mail and Address book. It works in Entourage and it used to work in Tiger (at least in the last versions).

    LDAP attribute for a per-user option:
    sunUCExtendedUserPrefs: corpDirAutoCompleteEnabled=true/false
    Per-user preference (option), if present overrides the system-wide setting.So it does. Unfortunately there is no way for the end-user to change this setting via the default Convergence interface.
    I've logged an RFE to have an option added however I still don't understand what the use-case is:
    RFE #6948297 - "Provide client-side option to enable/disable corporate address autocomplete"

  • How can I delete an auto complete address in Mail that is not in Previouse Recipients?

    Hello.  I have an e-mail address that comes up in auto complete in my e-mail when sending.  It is NOT in previous recipients and
    I am unable to delete it.  Hope someone can help me with it.  Thanks

    Have found the answer on Apple discussion and was able to delete it in my Address Book.

  • How to delete old addresses that appear in auto complete list in iMessage

    Mavericks 10.9.1
    iMessage Version 8.0 (4218)
    MBP Late 2011
    When typing in the name of a contact I want to message, a list of addresses appears as an auto-complete/auto-fill list.
    One address is no longer used and I would like to delete that particular address.
    The address is not on the contact card.
    I'm sending a message via iMessage to another iMessage verified address on an Apple device(s).
    My iCloud contacts are synced correctly with iphone/ipad/MBP.

    First, search Contacts to make sure the address doesn't appear on any card. If it doesn't, continue.
    Back up all data.
    Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.iChat
    Right-click or control-click the line and select

  • How can i delete all the "auto complete" addresses on my iPad mail

    I want to give my old iPad 1 to a relative . I'd like to leave all the apps for her but not all the "auto complete" contacts which appear when I use the Mail function. These names are not on "contacts" and seem to have been accumulated from mails I have sent/received over the years. is there a way to just delete these without doing a complete delete of everything on the iPad?

    Yes, but it is very tedious. You will have to begin typing an email address in the To: field in order to bring up those suggested email addresses. Then you tap the blue "I" next to the email address. In the next window that appears, swipe down to Remove from Recents and tap that to delete the address. You would have to do this for every single email address that you have ever received an email from, that is not in your contacts app.
    But what I am curious about is why wouldn't you remove your email accounts from the iPad? That will eliminate the problem altogether. You don't want to give the iPad to your relative that way, do you?

  • Auto-complete for the email addresses in the mail app is not working

    Hi, could somebody kindly help, please?
    I have just got a new iphone 5s after my old 5 got broken. When I got the new 5s one I had to restore everything from the back-up copy I had on my ipad or in my icloud, whatever.
    The problem is that in the standard mail app which you have at the bottom of the screen auto-complete for the email addresses is not working on this new iphone. However, it still works on the ipad.
    Can I turn it on somewhere or is it a bug? I remember When my old iohone was new as well as the ipad and ipod, I did not have to turn on anything. The recent email addresses list (appears when one starts to type an address in the address bar when writing a new email message) appeared automatically. And on this phone it doesn't appear at all. It doesn't suggest me any recent or whichever email addresses and I am really lazy to type an address each time.
    Could this be solved?
    Many thanks in advance for the eventual help.
    Olia

    I am also getting same problem...................anybody please help.

  • All of a sudden, auto-complete does not remember my preferred email addresses when I send an email.

    Previously when I would create an email and start to fill in the "To" box with an email address, Thunderbird remembered my most used choice. Now, auto-complete simply puts in the alphabetical option and I have to scroll through a long list to find the email address I want. Any ideas?

    what a ridiculous decision to change from "starts with" to "contains".
    I have a further problem - having selected the address I want from the umpteen options pulled from my address book, I then press enter to add another line for another address.....and the first address I selected changes to a completely different address!
    And also addresses from the address book which previously appeared only in black now randomly appear in red.
    help please!

  • How can I get back Mail Auto-Complete email addresses?

    After upgrading to Mountain Lion, my Mail no longer works with the auto-complete of email address.
    My Contacts.app works fine, it just seems that Mail is no longer able to 'read' from my Contacts.
    I use iCloud and everything was great for years.  Mail preferences is set to Auto-Complete email address from my Contacts.
    Not sure how the problem started, but I launched Mail on a 2nd computer  - on the same iCloud.
    Shortly after I did that, my 1st Mac no longer auto-completes email.  I'm unsure if that is what set off the problem.
    Also, I 'did' read Tom Nelson's article which did not work since it's not an 'alias' problem:
    http://macs.about.com/od/MacTroubleshootingTips/qt/What-To-Do-When-Mountain-Lion -Mail-Fails-To-Auto-Complete-Email-Addresses.htm
    Also, there doesn't appear to be a com.apple.mail.plist preferences file I can even delete in Mountain Lion.
    I use Dropbox, but have never it to sync Addresses, Calendar, etc.
    Any help greatly appreciated!

    I had the same issue. After reading this solution I started poking around in the Container folder and found that there was a symlink for AddressBook that was messed up which was causing the problem. In ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Application Support I ran:
    $ cd ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Application\ Support
    $ ls -lh
    AddressBook -> ??/???7??ʪ?????VT???;??\G[?:??:??????T?_Ү??
    CrashReporter
    Mail
    SyncServices -> ../../../../../Application Support/SyncServices
    iCloud -> ../../../../../Application Support/iCloud
    Seeing the aliases for SyncServices and iCloud, I guessed correctly that I just needed to recreate the AddressBook alias to point to the right place. So I just removed the alias for AddressBook, recreated it, restarted Mail, and it worked perfectly. (Note: I did the following to remove the alias, and recreate it. You should confirm what you are removing is an alias. You should also always make sure you have a backup.)
    $ cd ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Application\ Support
    $ rm AddressBook
    $ ln -s ../../../../../Application\ Support/AddressBook AddressBook
    Obviously, DrewSchatt's  original solution to this works as well, but this way you don't have to delete the whole folder, resetting your preferences and possibly delete something else important (only recreating the alias, not deleting any files or data).

  • Address in "To" field not auto completing

    When I type a contact name in the "To" field that is in my address book, the e-mail address is not auto completing. I had this happen before and figured it out but this time my memory isn't working.

    Hello Ernie,
    That preference is checked. I seemed to have fixed the problem by rebuilding the inbox and restarting Mail. I'm not sure I see the connection but that seems to have done the trick.
    Have a good day.

  • Populating Outlook 2013 auto-complete addresses via PowerShell

    Hello,
    I would like to use PowerShell to add auto-complete e-mail addressees to Microsoft Office Outlook
    2013. My understanding is that since Outlook 2010 was released, the NK2 file has been retired in favor of integrating the auto-complete addresses with the PST file (see link below). With that in mind, how can I manipulate the PST file to accommodate
    the auto-completion? Is there any documentation on the PST file structure that would allow me to inject this information into an existing PST? If a user has multiple PST files, how do you know which one contains the auto-complete entries — are they aggregated?

    "The NK2 file has been retired in favor of integrating the auto-complete addresses with the PST file"
    - I think this discription is not exactly.
    In fact, Outlook 2010/2013 reads the autocomplete stream
    from a message in the Associated Contents table of the Inbox of the mail account’s delivery store. (In another word, it is stored in mailbox site but is not on local). This
    hidden message has a message class and subject of IPM.Configuration.Autocomplete. The autocomplete stream is stored on this message in the PR_ROAMING_BINARYSTREAM property (PidTagRoamingBinary
    Canonical Property).
    Go back to your quesion, the autocomplete data, whatever belongs which mail account’s delivery store, is temporarily cached in an autocomplete .dat file located in %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\RoamCache.
