Address bar i'm feeling lucky
The reason I'm using firefox is that i could change the configurations and that allowed me to use the address bar as I wanted.
Before the last update, I used the address bar with the option I'm feeling lucky from Google and had Duck for the search bar. That means I was using two different search engines until the last update. Why can't i use that.
I thought the idea of putting I'm feeling lucky in the address bar was genius and when it wasn't by defaut I changed it in the config (about:config) and then switched to an Add-On. Now none of them work.
I'd like to have a search engine for the address bar and another one for the search bar, not one for the two.
It would be too bad if it can't be done, firefox seems so much nicer than the other browser and is loosing that
It has been many versions since Firefox linked the address bar to the search bar. Were you using the Keyword Search extension to assign the lucky search to the address bar? If not, I suggest trying it:

After installation, go to the Add-ons page. Either:

* "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

I do not know how but vshare, has been performing a search everytime I type something in the address bar that is not a complete website i.e. facebook instead of facebook.com
this is very annoying and I am unable to uninstall vshare, I have even tried uninstalling firefox and reinstalling itI had this problem too, and just fixed it, and found a great website that helped.

I just did that, and it worked for me. I had to go through a bunch of the different options, but I found one that worked.

In version 3.x.x I used to be able to type search terms into the address bar and the page would load, similar to Google's "Feeling Lucky" button. Now it just brings up a Google search for the terms I typed in. How can I get this time saving feature back?
The change between Firefox 3.6.* and Firefox 4 is how location bar search works. In Firefox 3.6 it uses Google "Browse by name" search. With the browse by name search, it performs a Google search and if there is a clear match it will take you to the site, otherwise it shows the Google search result. With Firefox 4 it just performs a Google search if you type something which is not recognised as a URL.
To get the Firefox 3.6 behaviour on Firefox 4 you need to change a hidden preference.

In windows firefox I can just put espn in the toolbar and it finds the site, but in Mac firefox it directs me to ask.com. How can I change this?

How do I change the address bar search provider in FF4
I installed a program which made Yahoo my default search engine. I deleted it under manage search engines and chose Google there, but Yahoo is still my default search engine in the address bar even though I tried going to about:config-typing in keyword URL - right clicking on modify- and changing to Google.
If I type a search word in the address bar Yahoo search results come up. I would rather use the get lucky feature of Google. How to I get rid of Yahoo as the ADDRESS BAR default search engine. I looked in add-ons, plug-ins, extensions and no sighn of Yahoo to delete. In Firefox 3.6, when I type something specific, like "wikipedia steve jobs" into the url bar, I am taken directly to Wikipedia's page for Steve Jobs, and if I type something less specific, I am taken to a Google search results page for what I typed in the bar (unless it was a URL, obviously); in the current version of Firefox, though, I am taken to a Google search results page for whatever I type in (again, not a URL, obviously), even if the page I am seeking is obvious-- how can I avoid this extra step and regain the Firefox 3.6 "I'm Feeling Lucky" functionality?

Single word search term entered into address bar triggers redirect to same web site every time
When I enter a single word into the address bar, I am redirected to www.grindtv.com every single time, no matter what that word is. When I enter more than one word, the browser performs a search properly, according to my config settings. Changing config settings like keyword.url and keyword.enabled do not have any effect on the single word redirect issue.
All plugins and add-ons are disabled while troubleshooting and have no effect.
I have uninstalled/reinstalled Firefox (removing personal preferences) with no improvement. I have cleared all history. I have searched all config settings for "grindtv" to no avail.Check the pref <b>keyword.URL</b> on the about:config page.

Address bar & search engine bar not working
On a Windows XP (Version 5.1) laptop with FireFox version 31, the following occurs:
Typing and pressing enter in the address bar does nothing; neither does clicking the "go" arrow at the end of the address bar. FireFox doesn't auto-complete entries, nor will it navigate to any websites including searching via Google. Also, you cannot type "about:home" or any other variation of an "about:" entry. Additionally, you cannot "Paste & Go." The address bar is populated with the clipboard text, but it doesn't perform the "Go" action.
The Search Engine Bar has no option for Google, Bing, etc. When clicking "Manage Search Engines" no other options are present. When clicking the "Get more search engines..." link on the window, no action is performed - no tab opens to search add-ons - just nothing.
I am able to open the FireFox menu and I can press Alt and view/use the File/Edit/View menus.
I've already performed the following steps and NOTHING changed in any attempts:
- uninstalled/reinstalled FireFox
- started FireFox in Safe Mode
- Reset FireFox
The TS info is listed below, but as the software has been cleanly installed today, there are no logs or detailed data.

If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

Drag and drop a URL from IE's address bar
I have a Processing application written (by others) that uses [Andreas Schlagel's sDrop library|http://www.sojamo.de/libraries/drop/] to accept URLs dragged and dropped from the users' browsers' address bar. The application works fine for Chrome and for Firefox and for old versions of IE but not for IE 9 or IE 10. I'm investigating how to fix this.
In the sDrop library [the Java code to handle the drop|http://code.google.com/p/sojamo/source/browse/trunk/src/sojamo/drop/DropHandler.java] uses the Java class DataFlavor which in turn defines a number of flavours:

just lately the google I feel lucky from the url bar hasn't been working, it's not a case of being taken to a different search engine, I'm being taken to my isp's failed to find what I was looking for page.

You may have an ISP that automatically redirects you to that search page if a DNS look up fails.
In such cases you need to contact your ISP and ask for a DNS server IP to opt-out of that feature. -
Getting URL redirects from Google's "I'm Feeling Lucky" Search
Hello all! I'm working on my final project for my intermediate programming class but I've hit a bit of a snag. This project is a "do whatever interests you, as long as it incoporates what we've learned this semester" type of project. (My personal favorite type of programming project!) I have a significant amount of code already complete, but here's my problem:
To put it simply, my program:
1) Takes a list of movie names
2) Gets the movie poster from Wikipedia
3) Saves the poster images to a folder
4) Creates an HTML file, so I can see a visual representation of every movie on the list (btw, how do you like my idea?).
I'm using (what I think to be) a very clever system of searching with Google's "I'm Feeling Lucky" search (using detailed search terms such as "air+force+one+movie+wikipedia" that will, more than likely, always take me to the right page (if it exists))...
Basically, my getPic(String url) method is now throwing an exception when I try to search the page that Google redirects me to, and I'm guessing it might be because the code is trying to search the "I'm Feeling Lucky" redirect page, instead of the page it is supposed to redirect to.
I get the following error:

Does this mean that it could be something wrong in my code and not Google?

After typing the partial address, I do get a dropdown that usually includes the correct, full address in the first listing. Also, the sites are all in my bookmarks folder.
You can also do this without an extension by modifying a pref on the <b>about:config</b> page.

When I click on the plus for a new tab, which automatically takes me to google.com so fine, but the cursor is in the address bar. It looks like the cursor is in the google search field, but it isn't.
When I click "home" the cursor defaults to the search field, which I feel is proper. Is there a way to have FF not default to the address bar for text input when opening a new tab?I doubt it. Google controls both their search and their browser and they integrate the features. But you can use "Ctrl+K" to place your cursor on Search Bar" within your Firefox toolbars. Pressing the TAB key is pretty much a waste of time since there are a lot of links before you get to the input area.
There might be an extension, if it bothers others, but I can't see a valid trade-off to justify using an extension for something that seems trivial to me. -
Need some direction, please.
We are moving off SSRS 2005 to a new server with SSRS 2008R2. The old installation (2005) a DNS entry was created "reports" with the ip address and port number simple. In the Configuration manager the Report Manager Virtual Directory
is "Reports". Website is Default web site. Typing "reports" into the address bar opens up report manager. When this is done the address shows as reports/reports/pages/folder etc.
The new installation is configured the same(?). DNS entry "reports2" with new ip address and port number. In the Configuration manager the Report manager URL virtual directory is "Reports" URLs: =
http://servername:port/Reports. The issue is when typing "Reports2" into the address bar the report manager won't open unless "reports" is added to the dns name i.e. http://reports2/reports
is entered.
This thread took me to more like kind thread than my searches. Went into IIS in the default web site I added an htm file with a redirect. Then started it, it works. Maybe due to my inexperience but seems counter intuitive as I thought Reporting Services did
