  • Address book access across difference accounts on one MAC

I can't figure out how to share the address book across the other accounts on the machine. Can someone please help, I am a recent convert to mac and i know it can't be that hard.
    Thanks in advance

If you want all users to access the same music, ratings, playlist, etc, do this.
    1 Quit iTunes.
2 Drag your entire iTunes folder from /Username/Music to /Users/Shared.
    3 Log out.
1 Log in on your other account(s).
2 Start iTunes and immediately press an hold the Option key.
3 iTunes will ask to *Create new library* or *Choose existing library*. Select *Choose existing library*.
4 Select the *iTunes library file* in the iTunes folder in /Users/Shared.
5 Now go to File -> *Add to library* and select the iTunes folder located in /Username/Music.
6 - iTunes will add all the music in from this account to the main iTunes music folder/library.
7 Delete the iTunes folder in Username/Music
8 Restart iTunes normally (don't hold Option). Everything should be there.
9 Quit iTunes and log out of the account.
10 Do the above steps for all users. Don't do the first 1-3 steps. Start at the second series.
Log into your account, start iTunes normally and all music should be there.
Whenever any of you do anything in iTunes, it will be seen by all since you are using one and the same iTunes library file.
Create a "main" playlist for each user with their own music. Create a smart playlist and set it to *Playlist is not the playlist* you created above. Select this and it will show you everything NOT in your playlist. Do the same for the others. This will help when adding only the music you want your own playlist.
Note that iTunes can only be opened by one user at a time. If you have Fast user switching enabled, the other users must quit iTunes in order for anyone else to use it.

  • Address book access from within Preview

Using a Canon MF4350d I have been unable to access Contacts/Address Book from Preview when faxing.
I can add a single destination, but I can't save it.  So each time I fax I must do that.
I can access Contacts from Word, Evernote, Firefox, MoneyDance, Mail, Contacts and Safari, but not from Preview, TextEdit, or Chrome.
Though in all likelihood, it's just Preview I'd ever fax from and want the Contacts.
    Any ideas?

I can enter a destination and fax from both, just can't access Contacts/Address Book.
Judging from my email exchange with Canon US, they say it's an Apple issue. blah, blah, blah.
I would think that there is an Apple API for those apps that for some reason Canon didn't bother with.
I tossed Reader some time ago for Preview.  Other than this issue, Preview is better for my purposes, (and as you probably know, integrates with other apps like Safari rather well) and doesn't require updates every month.
    thanks though.

  • Hierarchical Address Book Access Enumeration?

We are currently looking at the Hierarchical Address Book (HAB) feature for our Exchange 2010 SP3 on-prem deployment. One request was to limit the user/room/resources a user can see in the HAB based on whether the user has permissions to "see"
that resource or not. Bonus points if we can even limit which HAB Organizational parent/child groups they can see.
Is this possible or do we have to stick with Public Folders for this kind of hierarchical browsing?
    Thanks all!

    Hi,
In Exchange 2010, we can use Address Book Policy which administrators can segment users into specific groups to provide customized views of their organization’s GAL to meet your requirement.
When creating an ABP, you assign a GAL, an offline address book (OAB), a room list, and one or more address lists to the policy. You can then assign the ABP to mailbox users, providing them with access to a customized GAL in Outlook and Outlook
Web App. The goal is to provide a simpler mechanism to accomplish GAL segmentation for on-premises organizations that require multiple GALs.
For more information about different scenarios about this deployment, please refer to the following article:

  • Address book access sluggish

Having many problems in TB 31.1.2.
Selecting an email address from address book used to be very FAST; type in a couple of letters and hit enter.
Now there is a distinct and long pause before the selection appears after typing in a couple of letters.
In fact it takes so long that my old habit of typing a couple of letters and hitting enter no longer works. I now have to WAIT for TB to pull in the address.
    Please fix this.

  • Address book access

Hello, I have a question regarding the Address Book application. Is there a way to unlink some of the contacts in Address Book that I don't usually contact from Mail.app. I have contact information of some university professors and some of them have pretty common names. There are so many times when I am drafting an email to a friend and almost selected the wrong guy instead. Is there a way to make specific individuals not auto appear in mail.
Also since I'm on the topic, is there a way to encrypt a specific distribution lists? I also have some work contacts whom I'd prefer not to appear readily to anyone who opens my address book. Is there an add-on to add password protect function to individual distribution lists?
    Thank you!

Hey, I'm not sure that there's a way to do specifically what you are asking. However, you might try prefixing the names of professors so they don't show up unless you want them to like
    ProfJoe, Blow
    instead of
    Joe Blow.
As for password protecting certain parts of your stuff, I think the closest thing is to not let anyone on your user account. (sorry)
EDIT: Hey check this other thread out, http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1301150&tstart=0 that should help you with your first question.

  • How can I organize groups in Address Book while running iCloud under Lion?

I am frustrated with the new Address Book for many reasons:
It is no longer possible to view groups, list, and cards at the same time, just groups and list or list and cards.  This means it is very cumbersome to organize cards to multiple groups, something that wa relatively easy before.  Why not allow us to see all three at once and conveniently drag and delete?
The individual cards do not list what groups each card belongs to.  Why didn't Apple include a list and a way to change the group when editing cards?  Do any of the Apple programmers actually use their own programs to make them useful and convenient?
While running iCloud addresses are duplicated (one set "On My Mac" and another "iCloud").  While it is possible to view only one set or the other, I found that it is best to backup and then delete the "On My Mac" cards and groups.  Even then it is confusing to navigate and move cards around.
The iCloud synch with my iPod is working well, but I have to synch my older iPhone 3G with a cable. (will not run OS X v 10.7 Lion).
The iCloud address book is not synching properly with Yahoo, but rather the Yahoo address are being pulled over to the "On My Mac" set that had been removed.  Why can't we set controls of pushing or pulling data vs synching, as well as whether whether this is with the iCloud or "On My Mac" addresses?
The new address book format, while cute is too bright, hard to read and wastes a lot of space with white nothingness.  Why can't we have a more attractive, easier to read, and functional address book format, with more ability to customize format for advanced users?
I suppose I may have answered my own question: basically it is possible to manage the groups as long is willing to put up with inefficiency and backs up manually by exporting the address book regularly as a backup (because so much can and does go wrong).  Does anybody have more insight?

  • Address book frustration

I have been inputting names, email addresses and other personal contact info into my address book (accessed by clicking on the "button" on the toolbar in Entourage).  Subsequently, when I write a new email and attempt to select recipients from my address book, a different list of addresses appears that is not a complete listing of my contacts.  How do I access the complete list of contacts while writing an email in Entourage?

  • HT2513 Had to import Birthdays from yahoo calendar. Is there any way to move them to the iCal Birthdays calendar without manually inputing them each into Address Book?

I used to use Yahoo Calendar to manage my birthdays and notifications of them. Yahoo screwed with something, so now I no longer get birthday notification texts to my cell. Now, I've imported my Yahoo Calendar dates in to iCal. iCal has a Birthdays "subscription" calendar which only shows birthdays entered into the Address Book. I do not have any birthdays entered into Address Book. Is there any way to select birthday entries from my other calendars and move them to the birthdays tab, or must I manually enter over 200 birthdays into Address Book?
While I'm here, is there any way to highlight specific calendar entries and move them to a "new calendar"?
THanks in advance for any and all help.

  • How to move iPad address book to iCloud

I currently have more contacts in my iPad address book than are in my iCloud address book.  While some are duplicates that I will need to clean up, there are definately contacts on the iPad that are not on iCloud.  I think this may have happened when I used an app to clean up dups on my iphone, which then cleaned up iCloud.  Thankfully I do not use the iPad contacts very often and I was able to find the missing contacts on it - after I turned off the syncing with iCloud.  So, how do I get the contacts from iPad moved to iCloud and then to my other devices?  After that is done, how do I remove the duplicates without deleting sim

The correct contacts are on the iPad only.  On the iPad I turned off contacts in iCloud because I fear losing the only correct set of contacts.  When I turned iCloud contacts off on my iPhone and then back on, I was not asked if I wanted to merge, it just synced with the iCloud info.

  • Stop Mail filling out unwanted information in Address Book contact's

I originally posted this problem in the MobileMe forum ( http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1765577&tstart=0 ) thinking it was that but having not received any replies there and now realising it is Mail/Address Book causing it I hope to have more luck here!
I created a contact in Address Book a while back which I gave the first name 'Daddy' and, understandably, left the second blank, however my Dad has his email account set to display the name Peter Ledger so every time I send him an email it seems to try and be clever and see that the contact I have associated with that address does not have a second name and try and add it in for me so I end up with the contact 'Daddy Ledger' which is just weird!
Is there any way of stopping it doing this? ... it is quite annoying having to edit the contact each time I send him an email and as MobileMe syncs the information across if I forget to do it I get funny looks when I get a call and name on the screen reads 'Daddy Ledger'!

Yes, this has been a feature since 10.2. But I believe I have discovered a way to stop it entirely. It will also stop contacts from being added to your Previous Recipients list in Mail. Copy/paste this command into Terminal:
defaults write com.apple.mail SuppressAddressHistory -bool true
Then you can change all your contacts that have been modified previously by incoming email, and they should not change again unless you make the change. Also, Mail will no longer add any email address to the Previous Recipients list.

  • 3rd party application and address book

    Hi Guys
This happens on a regular basis
I use a 3rd party application called photo mechanic which is a n image browser from www.camerabits.com
It has a feature where you can email the images using the mail application of your choice(my choice is mail) using the addresses in your address book.
While sending multiple images often the whole process comes to a grinding halt as the address book is stripped of all it's contents, I back up the address book every time I add an address so it does not cause me to loose the information.
Just wandering if anyone might have an idea what is causing this, the reason I ask in this forum is that the 3rd party developer says it must be an issue with mail as he knows of no other issues.
I should add that I have no technical information as the error means a restart so nothing is recorded (that I am aware of)
The images are added as attachments of usually 300k to 500k in size one per email
    Any help or ideas

Any suggestions for integrating iweb with static html pages created by 3rd party apps?
Joe ~ Since iWeb can't import HTML pages, one suggestion is to publish your current sites to the same iDisk space iWeb uses by following the instructions in this Apple doc:
MobileMe: How to publish a custom website
...This would put your sites in Web > Sites folder and the URL would be:
    http://web.me.com/membername/foldername/
Then you could remove your sites occupying the "HomePage" area, i.e. the Sites folder on iDisk.

  • Mail doesn't show names from the Address Book

When receiving emails from people who appear in my Address Book - the "From" field still shows default names set by the senders, instead of showing the names as they appear in my Address Book.
When composing a new email though - Mail does recognize the names
Is there a way to enforce mail to replace the names shown?
    Thanks,
    Fade.

    Greetings,
Is there a way to enforce mail to replace the names shown?
No, there is no way to do this. The "From:" field will always be exactly what is specified by the account of the person sending you the email, even if you don't have it that way in Address Book. That is perfectly normal and is valid for every email client I've ever used.
The only reason you see the name you have in Address Book when sending an email is because you sent email to that person before, so it's drawing that information from the Previous Recipient list.

  • Transfer from Ipod to Address Book

I made a huge mistake when trying to use ReadIris' Card Scanner and eliminated my address book vcfs on my powerbook. The only copy I have is on my Ipod. How do I get them from my Ipod back on to my powerbook?

First you need to prevent your iPod from synchronizing with iTunes and iSync:
Press ⌘ and ⌥ as you connect the iPod to your computer (hold the keys down until the iPod appears in the iTunes Source list)
If that sounds too fiddly, temporarily place the iTunes and iSync applications in the trash to prevent them from opening. ( Dont empty the Trash! ) Return them to the Applications folder afterwards, to make them work again.
Double click your iPod icon on the Desktop. This will open a Finder window. Your vcf files are in the Contacts folder.
Copy the folder with ⌘ and D keys, drag the copy to the Desktop. Open the folder and select all with ⌘ and A keys. Double clicking should copy them to the Address Book.
While you have Address Book open, click File > Backup Address Book and save the resulting file in your Documents folder. Repeat once per week.
