Address Book - All

On 4.5 there are multiple address books. When I upgraded, it moved my desktop address book into "address book - all", making the desktop address book empty and unable to synch

Hello ccuccolo and welcome to the Forums!
Could I get a bit more info from you so I can try and help you out.
Are you on a BES?
Are you using Desktop
Redirector?
Are you using BIS?
Do you have multiple Desktop[sync]
service books?
What is the difference in the number of contacts between
"Address Book" and "Address Book All" databases?
Once I have this info I will be able to better assist you!
Cheers!

  • Backup software, difference between "address book" and "address book - all"

hi i have backed up successfully, what i would lke to know for when i restore is what is the difference between "address book" which has 313 contacts and "address book - all" which has 465 contacts, i wonder if one is my hone contacts and the other includes my email contacts, which will be important when i change work, thanks

    Hey sheepshead,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
    Thanks for the question.
This is caused by having multiple address books on the BlackBerry smartphone.  This can also cause syncrhonization issues, I would suggest following the steps in this KB article to make address book number the same as address book all: www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB19704
Let me know if you have any more questions.
    Cheers.

  • Address Book:  All addresses gone

Happy day today (uggg).....open up address book (as an APP, or within Mail program).  All addresses gone.
I do have a 3 month old BACK UP which I can use in desperation. But before I do, any thoughts on how to recover the current address book?
    JON

It sure seems to be gone.
An A& I then updateing again may prevent some future problem, just not sure what the cause is.
Archive & Install, which gives you a new/old OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space and no Disk corruption, and is relatively quick & painless...

  • 2 Macs and 1 iPhone - Address Book All Messed Up

My Address Book on my MBP was all perfectly in sync with my iPhone. Now I've added my Mac Pro (original) in the mix, tried to add in my Gmail contacts and now when Mobile Me tries to sync it says 534 contacts will be deleted, etc. Also all of my contacts are now showing up TWICE on my iPhone.
    1) Can I not have things synced and sent to the Mobile Me cloud from 2 Macs?
    2) How can I start over and get this all straightened out? Maybe I'll just use the Mac Pro as the main computer if things won't sync up with both properly.
    Thanks!

    HI,
Yes, you can have 2 Macs synced using MobileMe.
    Open System Preferences/MobileMe - Sync
Select the button: Synchronize with MobileMe
Select Contacts and another other applications you want to sync and click: Sync Now.
In the Address Book application from the Menu Bar click: Card / Look for Duplicates. You can delete dupliates that way if necessary.
Restarting your iPhone may help with the duplicates there.
To restart iPhone, first turn iPhone off by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until a red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider and iPhone will turn off after a few moments. Next, turn iPhone on by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.

  • How can I see in my address book all contaacts that have not been placed into groups?

How can I see in my address book the contacts that have not been put into groups?

The best way to do that is create a new "smart group" with the following:
This way you can identify those without a group and drag them to one.

  • My icloud Contacts do not match my address book all contacts .. I an trying to synchronize icloud with outlook .. it does not appear to synchronize current address book with icloud

I setup icloud to sychronize with outlook ... I have been sychronizing with gmail contacts so the 2 do not match.
I would like to have one contacts file that synchronizes with outlook. How do I make the contacts file on my iphone synchronize with the icloud then with outlook?
    Ernie

Nuts isn't it. This seems to have been an issue snce dAY 1.  iT FROSTS ME THAT THERE IS NO SIMPLE QUICK WAY TO UPDATE OR CORRECT the data in both programs simultaneously.. Thats why i decided to just put everytning into the i cloud address brook, and let the one other sit and rot.
then i got smart and said, why don't I delete the outlookaddress book files. and save on confusion.
result - both addresses books  and their contents became invisible to outlook.!!!!!! and I can find no way to correct this...to go back to the imperfect world that was.
I did get the outlook contact s back from an archive - but any thing from icloud has become inaccessible from outlook.  (fortunately i can get the vcard infformation directly from icloud. but I can't access it from outlook mail.... means no replying, forwarding etc - and a time swallowing nuisance..

  • Address Book - "Forced Quit" lost all data

I had a significant problem with Address Book (4.0.6) and its back-up. I am running 10.4.11 on a Power Mac (Dual 450 MHz PowerPC G4).
While in Address Book, it did not respond so I did a Force Quit. Upon reopening Address Book, all of my data (over 1000 items) was gone and only two addresses existed. In checking my account>Library>Application Support>Address Book, all that existed in the main address was 16 KB. A version of the Address Book from 2005 existed but not the current one.
In checking my back-up drive (backed up once a day), backed up by Retrospect (Destination = Replaced Corresponding Files, Selecting = Users Folders and Prefs (OS X), the only Address Book file was from 2005, probably when I first used Retrospect. In other words, the daily back-up was not capturing the most recent file.
One, what happened to the Address Book file when I did Forced Quit? Is it still on my hard drive under some other name? If so, how can I find it and can I use it?
FYI, I did run Apple’s Disk Utility and Verified the Hard drive which was OK.

    Try this:
    Quit Address Book.
In folder ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook drag file AddressBook.data to the desktop. Rename AddressBook.data.previous to AddressBook.data and restart AB. If your contacts are not back quit AB again and repeat the drag/rename process, this time with AddressBook.data.beforesave.
If you get your contacts back, now is probably a good time to use the AB menu item File/Back up Address Book.

  • All sorts of problems with Address Book

I am having a lot of problems with my Address Book all of a sudden. It started last Friday when out of nowhere my address book was empty. I used Time Machine to restore it and all was good, but then the next day, the same thing happened. Thankfully I had a backup of the archive and re-imported it and it worked well for a while then the same thing happened.
In total, it has erased itself about 3 or 4 times, and today a new issue has arisen: my groups have all disappeared. The contacts remain, just the groups are all gone. Smart Groups however have remained.
Any idea what could be going on here and how to fix it? I've also noticed a huge slowdown in my computer and see that "ADDRESSBOOKMANAG"is running often and taking up a ton of RAM.
    Thanks for any help.

Well thankfully my address book has stopped deleting itself <knock wood>, but I'm STILL having the problem with AddressBookManag running all the time taking up tons of memory. Anyone know how to fix that?

  • HT2486 When I open my address book on my Mac all my contacts open up at once. How do I prevent this from happening?

When I open my address book all my contacts pop up on my screen. How can I get it to stop

You might want to try trashing these files in your user /Library/Preferences. They may have become corrupt. Don't empty the Trash just yet. You can always use File>Put Back if this doesn't help.
    com.apple.AddressBook.plist
com.apple.AddressBook.abd.plist (not sure you'll necessarily find this one.)
After doing this, go back and restore your Address Book preferences, which trashing these files will have removed. Moving the files back will return everything to the way it was before. New, clean preference files will automatically be created.

  • What to do when your address book disapears. For Blackberry Pearl.

I went nuts when this happened to me. Not that I didn't have a back-up, you should ALWAYS have a
back-up of all your info. I knew that all my contact info was still there, because when someone called or
when I called someone on my address book, all their information still came up on my phone. So I knew it
was all there, but when I went to the address book itself, there was nothing there, and it simply said there
were no contacts. I even added a new one, and that was not showing up in the address book either. VERY
frustrating. So I called My service provider and begged for help. Being a new black berry user, I didn't
know squat about what to do, and I couldn't find anything online that helped me to fix this problem. So, if
this happens to you, (which I am told it happens to people a lot), Here's what you do to fix it....
First you make sure you have a back-up copy of all your backberry info using your blackberry desk top
program. after that, make sure that you blackberry is disconnected from your computer. Then go to the
options on your main menu, click the trackball. Then go to the Security Options menu, click the trackball.
Select General Settings, click the trackball. Now press the balackberry menu key on the left of the
trackball. Select Wipe handheld, click the trackball. Ok, I know thes sounds a little scarry, but trust me it
will all be ok. Once it resets everything your pnone wont work and it is going to look like all your info is
gone, but that's ok. Now go through the setup wizard like you did when you first got your blackberry to set
it all up. you don't have to add in all your info or setup all your emails, you can re-enter all your info later,
and the emails will automatically be re-setup when we are all done. Now To get all your stuff back on the
phone, connect the blackberry up to your computer, and go to your blackberry desk top program. In the
desk top program, go to back-up and restore and restore your most recent back-up. Now click the
blackberry menu on the left of the trackball, select register now, click the trackball. Go to the options
menu, click the trackball. Go to advanced options, click the trackball. look on the next menu for Host
Routing Table, click the trackball.  Now with your blackberry dial *228 and select option (1), to get your
phone in service again.   Now go online and go to: (http://www.blackberry.com/go/vzw), make sure you
have your blackberry.com password and user name and your blackberry pin number. If the user name and
password you have do not work, than unfortunately you'll have to call your service provider to help you
with that. For Verizon, the number to call is: 1-800-922-0204. It's best if you do not call them from your
blackberry. Now what you want to make sure is that you have all your email passwords etc. Now from
here, you can either have your service provider send to your phone the Service Books, or you can just get
the info for the website I gave so that you can log onto it and send the Service Books to your blackberry
on your own. If you have your service provider help you, this is where you'll need your email passwords,
because before you send the Service Books to your blackberry you'll need to revalidate all your emails
accounts by clicking on the red symbol on the left, and it will ask for your passwords and take care of all
the rest. Once you have all your email accounts re-validated, then you can send the Service books to your
blackberry. You'll see the link on the left upper menu of the page that says Service Books, click on it and
wahlah.  Now give it about 15 seconds or so. go to your black berry. Turn it off, and back on again.
Now turn your blackberry off and on again. When it comes back on follow all the menu promptings etc.,
and bingo you got your address book back.

    Welcme to the Frums!
Sometimes when the address books disappear, a filter has gotten turned on.
Go to address book>> menu >>> filters >>> and make sure nothing is checked in either box.

  • Can I combine e-mail page and address book?

I'm sure I will eventually be convinced that Mac is easier to use than a PC. With my PC my e-mail was Microsoft Outlook. My address book was listed on the lefthand column of the page along with "inbox', "sent" etc. All I had to do was click on it to bring it up and then click on the appropriate address which was automatically filled in on my outgoing e-mail page. Now, I have to open 'mail' and also 'address book' separately. Then nothing happens when I click on an address so I have to start typing it in and only then will it automatically finish filling in. Is there an easier way on Mac or is there a way I can get Outlook as my mail account on my iMac. I know most of you are young and were born holding a computer in your lap but I came to them later in life and, although very knowledgeable about many things, computers are way down on the list so I am very grateful for your help and patience with a grandmother.

As long as you have the contact's email address in your address book, all you have to do is start typing the person's name in the "to" box, and it will finish it for you. If you have more than one person named "Steve" for example, if you start typing the name, and you know you have more than one person of the same name, wait a second or two, and a box will open with all of the people of that same name, You can then scroll down using the arrow key and select the person you want.
Or if you know the first couple of letters of that person's address, you can type those in, and the person's email address will finish. That's a little bit easier if you have multiple names.
    Hope this helps...

  • Address book and google syncing

I would like to sync my google contacts with address book. I have gone into the preferences of address book and set it to "Synchronise with google" and entered my info. It will pull the email address', however that is all that it will pull. The names and other contact information does not come over. So basically in google contacts it says Joh Smith [email protected] When it syncs over to address book all that I see listed is [email protected] I can of course edit it and put in the user's name but then what is the point of synchronising? If anyone has any insight into this, I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thank you,
    Kris

Huh. Apparently I have to have my iPhone connected, then it will sync everything including the Google contacts. Funny that it wouldn't sync without it.
So I guess the moral of the story is to make sure that everything is connected and if you have an iPod/iPhone, initialize the sync through iTunes. Bizzare.
Now to go through and the duplicates...

  • Lion Address Book no longer syncs to iCloud and will not SEARCH

I use a MBAir i7, Lion, and Address Book (all system updates current as of date).
    My issue:
#1– for no apparent reason the search function within address book has ceased functioning.
#2– entries are no longer updating to iCloud.
How long has this been going on:
A few days.  However, I have had similar issues in the past that were resolved, such as the ridiculous issues regarding duplicate syncs, etc...all these issues were so time consuming to resolve.  But the issues could have been resolved with QUALITY PROGRAMMING.  Uh oh here it goes...the rant is exploding out of me...It baffles me how incompetent the programming has been with iCloud.  As long as I've been an Apple owner (since way back in the Quadra days) this has got to be one of the most frustrating experiences and BLUNDERS I have *ever* had using an Apple product.  I'm sorry ladies and gentlemen, i promised myself i would not digress to a rant.  But the truth is, I am so incensed by this complete botch since it results in such a MASSIVE WASTE OF MY TIME...sorry, again.
My attempts at resolution (for this specific issue):
    #1– Logging out (no avail).
    #2– Restarting (no avail).
#3– Changing WiFi locations (no avail).
#4– Running diskcheck to fix permissions (only a few permissions came up bad) (no avail).
#5– Spending about 2+ hours searching the internet for solutions (no avail).
#6– ^Deleting some preference files related to AB (no avail).
#7– ^Unsyncing AB from iCloud / deleting contacts on MBA / resyncing to iCloud (this works but shortly returns).
Does anyone else have suggestions on how to fix this problem?
...i remember before the iPhone came out, I owned a motorola flip phone.  I remember all I really wanted was a way to sync my AB contacts to that motorola phone.  There was a sync program available, and the syncing was so horrible that it was basically not usable.  For example, the sync process would not recognize the entries on the phone or the computer or vice-versa, which resulted in duplicate entries every time a sync was performed.  It was really impractical to go and delete, say entries 2, 4, 6, etc. from the AB database.  Even worse, the phone would truncate some of the data, so the benefit of syncing contacts to computer was at the expense of duplicating entries which would have to be deleted.  Then, the iPhone came out.  The iPhone propelled the standard for a mobile phone to a distant galaxy– and every commercial we heard for years was, "this new product is the iPhone killer"...The truth is that nothing has caught up with the iPhone.  And, all I thought I wanted was the ability to sync my contacts with my mobile phone.
So where do I stand in the year 2012?  Right back where I was in the day of my old P.O.S. motorola flip phone.

  • Syncing selectively with entourage, address book and iPhone... geesh

    Hi All,
This may all sound funky, but here is where I find myself.
I have thousands of contacts that I send stuff to monthly. I use pages to create the material I send. All of these contacts live in Address Book. They are the only contacts in Address Book - specifically because I can only merge contacts that are in Address Book with Pages (which blows, but is a whole other issue).
I use entourage for all my "real" contacts. Folks I contact every day, associates, family, etc.
Enter, my iPhone. Now I want to sync all my "Real" contacts (from entourage) with my iPhone. I just want my iPhone to sync with entourage, not all those contacts that live in my Address Book. Now I realize I can selectively sync just certain groups in the Address Book with the iphone, however, if I sync entourage and the address book, all those thousands of contacts really slow down entourage and even filtering them out can be a waiting game.
So, in a perfect world, I would be able to sync my iPhone directly with entourage. Or, in a slightly less perfect but still happy world, I would be able to sync entourage with the Address Book, but selectively keep all those thousands of contacts in the address book from syncing with entourage.
Does anyone see a way out of this?
    R

I am looking for an answer to a similar question. I use iCal and Address Book for family and personal calendars and contacts; I use Entourage for business calendars and contacts. I was successfully using Entourage 2004 to sync calendar events and contacts between my Mac and my Treo 650. I have now upgraded to Entourage 2008, which abandoned the direct sync conduit to the Treo. I am now forced to sync via iCal and Address Book. Which means that I seem to have a choice between (1) no longer syncing data between my Treo and my Mac or (2) accepting that all my Address Book data will land up in Entourage where I don't want it to be. (I can selectively choose which iCal calendars
Does anybody know of a solution for this? From reading through the forums, it appears that this problem is not specific to the Treo or Palm OS, but affects any type of sync between Entourage and a wireless device.

  • Mail and Address Book Issues in 10.4.5

    Hello:
I recently updated to 10.4.5 and have some issues with mail and address book.
    1. MAIL: All the mail on my machine has been "reformatted" for lack of a better term. Each line in a paragraph is about 1.5" above the next. This is the same for all messages. This just appeared after I updated to 10.4.5. Suggestions? Has anyone else experienced this? If so, what was the solution?
    2. ADDRESS BOOK: All of my addresses just have the name. Apparently, everything else has disappeared (Phone, e-mail, notes, etc.) Ex: John Smith... That is all I have for all 346 records. Naturally, I have the data backed up on .mac, but before I re-sync (assuming that works) I want to resolve the issue to prevent it from happening again. I have tried renaming files in the user>library>application support>address book from AddressBook.data.previous to just AddressBook.data to no avail. Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!
