Address Book: Birthday field prob

When I was trying to add birthday date in the address book, it picks up January as default, I can't edit the month. I can change only the date and year, but no option to change the month (previously it was fine, I have more than 100 birthday dates in calendar). Even it's the same after I restart my macbook.
It's also observed by imac user http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1734178&tstart=0
Help me to fix this new prob......

With the Address card in Edit mode you should be able to click the year field and after it highlights blue, change it to the year you need.
According to Address book Help, in the Address Book Help Menu;
You can keep track of contacts’ birthdays by creating a birthday calendar that automatically includes all the birthdays in your address book.
1. In Address Book, make sure you’ve entered the birthdate for each contact whose birthday you want to track.
2. In iCal, choose iCal > Preferences.
3. In the General pane, select the “Show Birthdays calendar” checkbox.
Birthdays in your address book are automatically added to the Birthdays calendar in iCal. When you add or remove birthday information in Address Book, the Birthdays calendar is also updated. You can’t make changes to the Birthdays calendar in iCal; to change it, you must edit the information in Address Book.
You can check in iCal Help for info on setting alerts.

  • Address Book - Birthday Field question

I was trying to make an entry on the birthday field in one of my contacts. The field does not give me an option to change the year of birth. It defaults to 2000.
The other question is how can we set up alerts, so that we can maybe send out a card in advance? Thanks!
Is there a way to fix this?

  • How to import attachment into Address Book "Notes" field

Is it possible to import an attachment into the Address Book "Notes" field? Jpg, PDF, pages doc, whatever...? Don't really care if the file is "visible" (IE if photo, can actually SEE photo)... a clickable icon would be fine.
    Thanks

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
I'm not aware of any direct connector provided by RIM for this purpose. They do supply an ASCII/CSV import capability...see this KB:
KB11194 How to import contacts from an CSV file to the BlackBerry device
You'd have to find out from AOL how to get your contacts exported to an ASCII or CSV file.

  • Address Book Department Field Fails to Sync

The department field from my iMac won't transfer to the department field on my iBook and vice versa. The department field will be populated in one, but blank in the other. The number of contacts in my address books are equal. The contacts are updated, but without the right department field.
I've restarted my computers. I've updated the software from the apple menue. I've restarted my computers.
I try to use all of Address Book's fields. Shall I stop using the fields other than name and address? My only other option is to put the other data in the notes field. I don't have time to double check my data everytime I sync.

I don't have any ideas, Jack, but I do have the same problem. It's something that just popped up—one of those things that seemed to work one day and not the next. The data is there, it's just not populating the field in Address Book. Strange... and annoying.

  • One of my address book birthdays wont show up in iCal

Every birthday I've inputed into my address book appears on my birthdays calendar in iCal, except my father's. A few days ago, I noticed that my father's birthday was listed on the wrong day in iCal, so I opened my address book to check it out, but it was correct in the address book. I tried changing the birth year, and that caused my father's birthday entry to disappear entirely from iCal.
Does anybody have any advice on getting it to work properly?
Edit: I've just tried playing around with the date in the address book, When I change the year to 0001, his birthday shows up in iCal on 8/22, though it's inputed in address book on 8/24. This two-day discrepancy is the same no matter what day of the month I input (ex. 8/26/0001 in address book shows up as 8/24 in iCal)

I'm having this exact same problem, but it's doing it with a bunch of birthdays. I also did 0001 when I didn't know the birth year, so I went back and did a more current year, but they still aren't showing up where they should be...or at all. It's completely bizarre.

  • IOS 5.0.1 Can't Show OS X Lion Address Book Profile Fields?

In OS X Lion, Apple introduced Profile fields into the Address Book:
    Social network profiles
Address Book lets you quickly access the social network profiles of your contacts, including Facebook. Press and hold an email address to select the appropriate profile.
So, I filled this all in on my Mac. But then I synced my iPhone (running iOS 5.0.1) with my iMac, and discovered that the Contacts app on the iPhone doesn't show these fields. Is this true, or have I done something wrong?

I'm going to try that next.
What I just tried was creating a New Card in Address Book on my Mac and filling in these fields:
    • First Name
    • Last Name
    • Twitter
    • Facebook
    • Flickr
I then synced my iPhone with my Mac, via iTunes.
The new card showed up in Contacts on my iPhone, but only the First Name and Last Name are visible. The three Profile fields I filled in are not there! Clearly this is a bug.

  • Display server based address-book birthday entries in iCal

    Hello
Does anybody has a solution for the following situation to solve:
iCal on the user machine is only able to display birthday entries out of the local address-book not out of a address-book stored on a server (Mac OS-X).
    Any ideas or suggestions?
    Thanks for attention and respond

Hi, I would need that, too.
It's working on the iPhone, but not on MacOS with iCal... anyone from apple could help, please?
    Thanks!

  • Display age in iCal using Address Book birthday

Is there a hidden feature in iCal (or Address Book), or a plug-in available, that will let me display a person's age in iCal alongside their birthday using the date from Address Book?

    Hi Jenny,
Dates To iCal 2 does this. It works under Leopard, but not Tiger.
Dates to iCal 2 - A replacement for Apple's birthday calendar for iCal in Leopard.
    http://www.nhoj.co.uk/datestoical/
As well as automatically syncing birthday dates from Address Book, Dates to iCal 2 can sync anniversary and custom dates. It can set up to five alarms for each date in iCal and can also set different alarms for birthdays and anniversaries. It allows the option of only syncing from one Address Book group. This application also allows for the titles of the events sent to iCal to be modified to the user's preference.
    Dates to iCal is shareware.
    Best wishes

  • Address Book Custom Fields not Showing in iPhone

My custom fields in the Mac Address Book are not appearing on the iPhone when synced. Has anybody had this issue and know how to resolve it? Thanks.

Well isn't that a royal pain - has anybody come up with a work around? Copy them into the notes field I guess?

  • Can't sync Address Book note field to iPhone contacts

    Hi:
I make heavy use of the "note:" field in my MacBook Address Book app. I store all kinds of detailed info about people, organizations, etc. in that field. I would like to be able to access that information on my iPhone 3G, but the phone's Contacts app has no corresponding "note" field.
Could this be a result of the way I imported data into my MacBook when I first got it?
In searching the fora, I found several people who said their iPhone contacts sync nicely with the Address Book note, and others who say it doesn't sync at all. Can anyone please shed some light on this for me?
    Thanks!

Not quite sure what you mean by "editing" but I've tried every method of selecting, deleting, cursor placement, backspacing, and typing I can think of -- again, with and without the Edit button clicked. I did seem to accumulate a huge number of duplicates along the way, and there were more than a thousand cards in my Address Book; maybe I went over the limit?

  • Don't want to sync Address Book "Note:" field

Does anyone know how customize the syncing of Contacts from Address Book so that everything but the "Note:" field is synced?
FYI, I'm syncing to a Palm Treo 700p (Verizon Wireless).
    Power Mac G5 Dual 2.5GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

It's not possible to change the conduit field content and label mapping in the iSync Palm Conduit to include additional fields or exclude the Note: field. There is no provision to turn include or exclude data globally, or on a record by record basis.
While you still do not get all of those options with the Missing Sync for Palm OS with the Mark/Space Contacts conduit, you get far better support for categories and groups, contact photographs or icons, additional address fields, a URL and IM address, and more telephone numbers and electronic mail addresses:

  • Script to drop text into Address Book "note" field?

I wonder if anyone has any thoughts on this: I have about 6000 contacts and wanted to organize them by putting category descriptions of each contact into the notes field: ie, "friend," "architect," "designer," etc. Once done, they will be easy to keep organized via smart groups.
Could a script be written to do this? My contacts are already broken out into "dumb" groups, so could a script simply drop a note for all members of an existing group? Or all selected contacts?
The trick will be to add the text without wiping out any existing text. That way each contact could be assigned to more than one category.
This would be a very useful script, because Address Book does not presently have the "category" feature than other contact managers have, such as Entourage.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Suggestion:
6000 contacts - That's a lot. Before you get too carried away, I would add delimiters such as:
    [note]" & contentsof_existingnote & "[/note]" & return, AND
    [category]" & _category & "[/category]" & return
    You could then add other functions to your AddressBook note field. I do this regularly and have added;
[addressee2] to add a roomates, significant other, or spouse that wanted to keep her maiden name and want to formerly include on an invitation or xmas card.
    Mr. John Smith
Dr. Karen Jones, M.D. [addressee2, roomate, significant other]
    1234 W. 56th Street
    Anytown, ST, Zip
[spouse] spouse; review your contact list and greet them with "How is your wife Karen?"
[xmasprefix] mainly to add "Mr. & Mrs." to your contacts
[xmasfamily] include a personal touch; "and family"
    Others, [iphotolinks], [envelopegraphic], [envelopeAttn_]
    All kinds of possibilities here.

  • Address Book Note Field reverts back any edits I make

I have been a long time Apple user and Address Book. I have noticed something peculiar happening with my contact notes in Address Book. Changes that I make to the note field, by either deleting or adding information will revert back to previous record before my edit. This does not appear to happen to all contacts but definitely is happening on multiple contacts and I have no idea as to why.
The only way I have found to fix this problem is to make a vcard of the contact onto my desktop. Then delete the contact and reimport the vcard, this seems to fix the problem, but I have close to 4000 contacts and it is a random thing. Please help if you have any suggestions.
    David

thx for the quick response VK
I sync with an iPhone but not mobile me.
I corrected 25 sync conflicts a few moments ago but that did not help the situation
I rebooted and ran a few YASU scripts... that did not help either
I removed pref files and still have the same bug rearing its ugly head in the notes field
I rebuilt the AB DB and... the bug is still occurring
    interesting news is that:
I added a new record and the bug did not occur!
I copied one of the offending records and then edited the copy by deleting the first 3 lines of notes.. this resulted in the same bug (the first 3 lines reappeared)
I then clicked the EDIT button and replaced the first 3 lines of notes with text
and the change was saved... this worked.
Then I deleted the offending record and checked back with the copy that I just created... it was fine
the issue is that when I edit an existing record, I will have no assurance that my edit is saved after I leave that record and continue to another one...
    hope you have some ideas
so that I can trust AB once again
    thanks..
    what next?

  • IPhone & Address Book: which fields will sync?

I'm in the process of acquiring an iPhone (waiting for Orange UK PAC code before I move to O2 UK). In the meanwhile I thought of starting a clean Address Book on the Mac that will sync with the iPhone.
The problem is, based on some comments here, the iPhone doesn't seem to support all the fields that are available in the Address Book (like prefix, suffix, etc.)
So my question to someone out there with an iPhone is... which fields does it support and which does it show by default on the contact list?
I'll give you an ideia of what I want so that you can help me finding the better way of doing it:
I have lots of old university friends. On my SonyEricsson W880 I have them all saved with the prefix ULP (university name) followed by the nickname.
I want to build a clean Address Book so I was using the prefix to enter ULP, i was entering the first and last name and then added a new field for the nickname. But if the iPhone doesn't support prefixes nor nicknames, i would end up with a name like John Doe that, to me, is not immediatly identifiable. Its actually easier for me to check that John Doe is an old coleague from University (the ULP prefix) and his nickname was JarJar for example.
So, again, which fields are synced and what is the best way to achieve what I want without having to cheat (like inserting nicknames or suffixes in first and last name fields)?
    Thank you.

On the iphone, when you go to your contacts (Phone>Contacts), by default you'll see all your contacts, and at the top it will have a title saying "All Contacts" and to the left of that a button saying "Groups". If you tap that button, you get to a screen that lists all your groups, with the title "Groups" at the top. If you then tap on a group, say your ULP group, you get to a list of contacts that are in that group. It looks just like the All Contacts list, except that the only contacts listed are those in that particular group, and the title at the top says the name of your group. And the "groups" button is still there.
Contacts in the Address Book can be in more than one group too. I have a group named "business" that has a lot of different contacts, some of whom are also in my "personal" group, and many of which are in my "clients" group. I generally leave it at "All Contacts" but if I can't remember the name of someone, like say my kids' dentist, I'll go to my "medical" group where I know he is.
I hope that clears things up. Groups are very useful!
