Address Book, Bluetooth, text backup

Address Book is working well with my Sony Ericsson - so far, so good - now I'd like to move the old SMSs from my phone onto my Mac to free up SIM memory and keep an archive. Anyone know how to do this?
thanks, dg

David,
This is off-topic, but you had asked about converting old MacCIM e-mails in another topic -- I found a way to do it. There is a program called Emailchemy that reads your old CIS Filing Cabinet and converts the mail message very quickly. I recovered about 9K worth, stretching back more than ten years.
I think that I found the program through the products directory here -- it's by a company called "Weird Kid Software" or some such.
Good luck!

  • Address Book / Bluetooth issue -- Can you help?

I have a Sony Ericsson K800i cell phone and a new black macbook. I have the two devices connected and can use iSync, but I cannot use Address book to make calls or SMS. I also have an old powerbook which works fine with the K800i.
I can only assume now that it is an issue with my MacBook. Does any one have any idea how to get it working? I can get it to connect, but it doesn't want to make phone calls or SMS.
Can anyone help? It would be much appreciated.
    -Grant

Just googled "K800i Apple address book bluetooth sms" and found this link
    http://www.fscklog.com/2006/09/sek800i_mitma.html
Its in german but copy and paste 10 points into sherlock and traslate to english.
Very simple to follow, took under a minute and now bluetooth sms and calls work a treat.
Have rehashed the clumsy translation and included below for you
    1. Backup your address book and quit the application.
    2. Right-click on address Book.app - > ' show Package CONTENTS '
    3. Continue to go it into Contents/Resources
    4 into Telephony.bundle
Right click ' show Package CONTENTS '
5 As before Contents/Resources to advance
6 Duplicate your ABDeviceCommandSets.plist for security
7 Open ABDeviceCommandSets.plist to with TextEdit
    8 Search for' K700 '
9 Copy that string line and paste below replacing K700 with K800
    < string>K800</string >
    10. Finished. Open address book and test sms and dialing
Now telephone numbers can be dialled and sms sent
    Enjoy!
    Thanks to Leo...

  • Address Book & Bluetooth

I have just upgraded to Leopard and I appear to have lost a function from address book.
In the past there used to be a bluetooth icon on the toolbar which when activated connected to your mobile phone. When somebody called a pop-up screen appeared giving details of who was calling and options to pick up the call.
Does anybody know where this feature has gone and if so how to re-activate it.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Iain

    Wow...
It seems I've found another removed feature or capability every week since "upgrading" to Leopard.
There are widgets to replace the SMS features that the address book bluetooth supported. But I haven't found anything to replace the caller ID or dialing feature.
Add that to killing Unsanity's APE, no scrolling or sound control in the preview of media file and the loss of so many older programs, control panels, screen savers, etc...
Leopard is looking more and more like the upgrade from XP to Vista, where you lose as many features as you gain.
The sad thing is, there was no simple way to see all you would lose by "upgrading" to Leopard. At least Microsoft gives you a matrix (albeit confusing) to see what version of Vista you need so you won't lose something you need. With Leopard, the gives you five pretty examples of what you MIGHT be able to do, but no indication of what you will no longer be able to do.
I don't usually participate in the discussion boards, but I just went to dial a number in my address book and realized another of the "upgraded features" of Leopard.
    This is getting frustrating.
Does anyone know of a third-party solution for dialing from the address book?
    Thank you.

  • Automator, Address book & Bluetooth - Automatic vCard sender.

I would like my PowerBook to continuosly scan for nearby Bluetooth devices, and on detection send a vCard to them.
It would also be nice if it only attempted to send the vCard once, previously found device should be left alone.
Could this be done with Automator?
    Best regards,

I also can't get my new ROKR to use the Address Book bluetooth functions. I've looked online everywhere and no where is there documentation the matter. I can use iSync but when I click the bluetooth button in Address Book is asks me to pair the device and I do but then it doesn't seem to pair it even tho it says pairing was successful. It just brings me back to Address Book with the bluetooth button gray again forcing me to repair the device.

  • Address book, bluetooth, and the sony ericsson w810

hello. i have a sony ericsson w810. i was able to pair it with my macbook and i can sync the Address Book and iCal between the two. however, when someone calls me, or when i receive a text, i expected that the macbook will display the name of the caller (if the caller's in the Address Book), or at least display the number. however, when someone calls, "Unknown Caller" is displayed, which i think proves that the phone and the macbook are paired.
also, i can't send a text message and can't dial from the macbook.
when i put my pointer on the bluetooth icon on the Address Book, i get a message that goes "Connected <w810>"
if anyone could help me on this one. thanks.

I am having the same problem with my w810i and MacBook Pro. I've poked around the forums and there doesn't seem to be anyone who knows what's going on.

  • How do I export Address Book to text file?

I want to create a separate database for my professional contacts using Excel or Filemaker.  Right now I have them all in Address Book.  If I could just export my database as a tab-delimited text file.

    The AB file
    ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/AddressBook-v22.abcddb
is a SQLite3 database. You can extract data with
    http://menial.co.uk/software/base/
    or Firefox SQLite manager

  • Export address book group text file?

    Hi,
I need to get a group of addresses to a friend who can not use the vcard format. I need to do it in a text file format, but don't see any way in address book to do that.
    Can you help?
    Meg

The vcards are actually text files - you can read them with BBEdit or Text Editor.
One way to achieve what you want is clumsy but may be workable, depending on the number in the group and what your friend plans to do with them. In Address Book, select the group and go to File/Print. Choose the List style, select the fields to be included and then click the PDF button and save the group as a PDF. Send the PDF to your friend. Friend can open it, click the "Select Text" tool, select the data and copy it off to whatever is to receive it.
Another more standard way would be to run applescript to pull the data you need into a comma-separated or tab-separated data file which can be imported into spreadsheet or address book programs. Several versions of such scripts have been posted here recently, or there are various importer/exporter scripts available on the internet.

  • Importing Addresses in Address book from text file

    Hello all,
I am attempting to import my address books from Microsoft Outlook into the Address book on the Macintosh.
More specifically, I have several distribution lists under Outlook that I use to send out various newsletters from where I work. These distribution lists have addresses that are specifically NOT within my Contacts under Outlook.
So far, I HAVE been able to get the 400 email addresses exported into a plain text file. This text file has only the email addresses, one per line within the text document.
The problem I have been having is finding some way to make this information "useful" for the address book program. Attempting to import the text file doesn't work (understandably, since I assume the program will only see the text document as "one" card.)
So my question is, how can I import these 400 addresses into the address book under a specific grouping or distribution list? Is there some way I can create individual vcards for EACH of these addresses, THEN import them?
Or am I doing things all wrong from the get-go, and need to attempt something else?
    Here' hoping you can help!!
    Thanks

Here's instructions. I find it hard to believe that this much work is required, but I'm not at home and so I can't experiment with my Mac.
    <http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20050828200319417&lsrc=osxh>
I was thinking that you might just want to drag contacts from Outlook to a folder in Windows -- all the contacts get exported to individual "cards" which I'm pretty sure you can import directly into Address Book.
As for your distribution lists -- I wouldn't be surprised if Mac OS requires everyone on the list to appear in Address Book. If you try creating a list manually, can you include recipients that don't go in Address Book?

  • Address Book, importing text tab file, custom fields not there

Searched thru all past posts. Found some that are close but not what I am trying to do.
Open Address Book, go into Preferences, select Template and under the Names field (friend, assistant, father, etc) I add a custom field called "Keyword".
I also add two more custom fields in the Phone area called "Work 3" and "Work 4". There are other custom fields I need but I want to keep this short.
Quit Address Book then relaunch. Add a new contact and the new custom fields, Keyword, Work 3 and Work 4 are there. All good so far.
I have a Now Contact file with about 800 contacts in it. I export all fields as a Text file, Tab delimited. No problems there. With Address Book launched, select Import, pick the text file, leave Text Encoding on Automatic and click Open.
The window that shows the fields for Address Book and fields for the text file side by side opens. This is where you match up the correct fields for importing. If I go to one of the fields from the text file that I created a custom field for, click under the Address Book heading on the Do not import, scroll thru the Apple choices of fields, none of the custom fields show up. Only the original Apple ones are there. Why does Apple let you create them in the Template area but not have them available for importing?
    That is my problem.
Adding new contacts as I get them, is fine. Importing 800 contacts with these custom fields is not possible.
I could map them to go to the Notes field along with actual notes but that is inelegant. The custom fields are there, why can't we use them to their full potential.
This appears to be a bug to me. Let me know what you think.

    Hi Adam,
Thanks, but the problem is not importing to AddressBook, it is exporting.  I did discover from another that I can export very easily to a Numbers spreedsheet.  It is exceptionally simple.  But it will not export custom fields.  Someone said that is because of a vcard standard.  My custom fields are just "name" fields that I have labeled differently.  But Numbers does not support the name (it only takes the name of the card).

  • IOS 5.0.1 glitch with address book and text messages!

Since updating to the newest software, my iphone 4s no longer recognizes contacts in my address book.  So when a text comes through it doesn't have a contact assigned to it.  Same thing when a call comes through, just the phone number shows up.  Also I noticed that some of the phone numbers I have in my address book are not inputed the same as others.  example of how it should look : +1 (555) 555-5555.  After the update the numbers look like this : 5555555555
I have had to go back in and manually input the +1 infront of all of these phone numbers to even activate a call using that contact number.  Also my wifi connection seems to come and go,  sometimes recognizing my wireless network when I am at home and sometimes it doesnt.  Anybody else having these problems?

I am having a problem similar. My messages come in with the phone number showing if the number is entered without the number 1 in front of it, but when I try to have siri call someone who doesn't have the number 1 infront, she can't call them. It was working fine yesterday before the upgrade

  • In Address Book, new text in the comments keeps disappearing.

Just recently, when I add new comments in Address Book, the new text disappears when I leave the comment box. The previous text remains. This keeps happening. I have restarted the computer, thinking it was a glitch, but no.

Anyone know how to fix this? It's still doing it, but only 50% of the time. It's very annoying and taking up my time at work, as I use the comments field to store info about the customers' orders. I have a ton of open space on my hard drive, so that's not it.

  • Address Book - adding text to each entry

    Hi,
Is it possible to add a text file/panel to the basic address form?
    Thanks

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Probably not in the manner you envision. That is what the Notes: area in each Address Book contact record exists for.

  • Address Book - Weird text field behaviour

In Address Book when I try to edit any text field weird things happen.
When I start typing all the previous characters are repeated with each keystroke - for example typing "Thomas" would become TThThoThomThomaThomas". Pressing the backspace, delete or the ESC key repeats only the keystrokes made, i.e. "Thomas" would be added to the end of "TThThoThomThomaThomas".
If I click into another field and start typing it still remembers all the previous keystrokes and puts all of them in front of the key I just pressed.
Additionally, nothing can be typed in the notes field.
    I've tried deleting:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.abd.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.plist
    but that doesn't fix it.
Anything in ~/Library/Application Support/Address Book be the problem?
When I log in a a guest user this behaviour is not present.

It's good that you tried this on a different account. That suggests that the problem exists somewhere in your user account directory. I don't think anything in ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/ would cause this. Do you have any input managers installed? These might be in ~/Library/Input Managers/ or something like that. I've never installed one myself, so I am not certain where they are. I think if you find one, you can just remove it from that folder by dragging it out, and then restarting Address Book might solve the issue.

  • Address Book vs. Backup?

I recently upgraded my hard drive. Before swapping the drives out in my MacBook Pro, I did a backup of my Home Folder so that all my documents and settings would be saved.
After installing MacOS onto the new drive, I then Restored the backup. Everything looked fine. All of my files were there (iPhoto, Documents, etc.) with one notable exception... My Address Book is completely empty.
When I look in the AddressBook folder in Library, I see a file there called AddressBook.data.beforesave that is 4.8MB in size. I assume that file has all of my old addresses in it. Is there some way to import that data back into my Address Book?
Thanks for any help you can provide...

Never mind... further research yielded the answer. I deleted the file that ended in .data. I then renamed the file that ended in .beforesave so that it ended with .data. This restored my address book. Woohoo!!!!

  • Adding address book to a backup

I'd like to backup the address book database with Retrospect.
Where is the address book data stored so I can add it to be backed up? I know that I can make a backup of it with exporting it but that's not what I want - I want it to be automated.
