Address Book CalDAV Account Bug?

So I've setup a CalDAV account on my MacBook Pro's Address Book, but when I open iChat, for example, the names that correspond with the usernames are not picked up if they're coming from my CalDAV account. Only if their "On My Mac". I've discovered this is a farther reaching issue that prevents several other apps (Mail included) from allowing this information to be accessed and searched from anything but Address Book itself. Has anyone else found a solution for this?

I've noticed the same behavior. Also if I try to link a user in iChat to a address book card, it will just duplicate the users info from the CardDav entry to a new local card. Unfortunately problems such as this seem like par for the course as far as Calendar and Address Book server go.
Even more frustrating is that if you run the Push Notification service and iChat service you will see people online when they shouldn't be. If a user has a CalDav or CardDav account and they are running iCal or AddressBook, they will always show as being online. This is even if they aren't currently running iChat.

Heya,
I have an iPhone 3G that is running version 3.1.3 of the iPhone OS and I need to add an Address Book Server account (that is being run on Snow Leopard Server to the phone but the only option I have is LDAP. My understanding is that Address Book Server uses CardDAV not LDAP. So I went ahead and added the account by choosing "Settings" -> "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" -> "Add Account..." ->"Other" -> "Contacts - Add LDAP Account" and entered my servers information. After selecting "Next" it prompts me with the following message:
"Cannot Connect Using SSL - Do you want to try setting up the account without SSL?"
I choose "Continue" -> the message disappears and I choose "Save" -> then I'm prompted with this message:
"This account may not be able to search contacts. Are you sure you want to save?"
I choose "Save" and it appears to add it. To verify I exit "Settings" and go to "Address Book" and none of my contacts appear. I even let it sit for an hour on a WiFi connection without any luck. Can someone help?

Is it possible to add a new account to my address book so that it is completely seperate from my personal account? I have several hundred entries to add and I don't want to be sorting through when I am looking for a friends name!

Address book preferences accounts.You can add cardDAV,Exchange or LDAP.
Also you can sync with mobile me but if you mean have to different local accounts in your mac i think no.
You can create groups to easy manage the hundred or more entries may when want email to all of them.
But even if you have thousand when you looking for a friend name using spotlight or in mail or other app you shall be able to find it quick.

Address Book Archive Save Bug

I recently went through and cleaned up my address book. Every hundred or so records, I exported an archive file after selecting all the records. I saved it to a file on my desktop. Each time I did it, I saved to the same file and when it asked me if I wanted to replace the file I said yes.
After a few days of this I did one last save. I looked at the file that I had been overwriting and found that it had not updated in several days. I tried it again, double checked the location, etc. and it did not update the file.
It gave no indication that it hadn't saved the file. This looks like an address book dialog box bug to me.
Has anyone else seen this? The workaround is easy, jsut save as a different name, but it was really surprising.

The Address Book Backup (abbu) is not a file, but a folder containing files and additional folders. When using the abbu export feature, I would not recommend saving with the same name each time because it will not give you an accurate backup. It will allow files to accumulate in some of the subfolders (such as the Metadata folder).
As for the creation/modification date of the abbu, I believe that the top-level folder's date may not change while the contents may change. In any event, this is another good reason to not use the same backup filename each time, but instead use a unique filename for each export.

Address Book -- Will this bug EVER be fixed?

I just spent half an hour trying to figure out why my Address Book was completely freezing, even though restarting the machine. I would start the app, and it would be completely unresponsive.
So, I googled and found a thread (http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=8106287#8106287) from right after the release of 10.5.5, saying that if you create a smart group with a conditional using "card is not in XXX group" or "card is not in any group" the application will be completely and permanently hosed until you delete those groups (without starting AB, since you can't). Instructions are above if you're having that problem but READ THE WHOLE THREAD. I did, removed the offending group, and everything works again.
Now we're up to 10.5.7 and Apple hasn't (as usual) done a **** thing. I mean, they could at least remove the option, or change it to read "make application completely unresponsive."
This is just one of a LONG series of unfixed/unacknowledged serious bugs, or staggering deficiencies, in the Apple application suite. Address Book doesn't even have a provide-feedback link so I guess they really don't care. Does this mean they're going to stop supporting the product, or what?

Sorry to hear you are having a problem with your Address Book program. It's a pretty stable program, and I'm not having the problem with my Mac's that you have encountered.

Every OS has bugs, that's why we are now at 10.5.7, and deficiencies in a generic program are not rare. Almost every program provided by Apple has commercial alternatives, some are excellent. I don't think anyone actually believes that every Apple program is the best in the world, they are just the best overall suite and all have room for improvement.
I suspect you are a victim of accumulated corruption in either your OS or User account. There are many steps that can be used to test for this, but they do take more than a half hour and may require rebuilding databases, erasing preferences, reinstalling softwares, etc.
Rarely does an upgrade fix an existing problem.

Address Book, Exchange Account, Contact Photos with iPhone and EntourageEWS

In SL Address Book I cannot assign a picture to a contact in my Exchange AB. For my local AB this still works fine. Bug or by design?
With my iPhone I can assign pictures to my Exchange contacts and this pictures will also displayed in Address Book and Entourage 2008 EWS.
If I assign a picture in Entourage EWS it will show up in Address Book, but NOT on the iPhone.
Any Ideas?

So in regards to this issue, what's the best way of getting photos assigned to contacts when using an Exchange server. I have a bunch of contacts stored locally on my Mac address book which I had since copied over into the Exchange server. You state I can only assign photos from within the iPhone. So what's the best way to get a photo on the Mac to the iPhone. Do I get photos into the iPhoto, sync my iPhone with my Mac, and then go to the iPhone and manually add the photos to contacts one a time? Is there a faster/better way?

Address Book contact importing bug

Bug reproducing sequence:
1) Create any smart-group in the Address Book
2) Double-click that group's name to rename it
3) Command-Tab from Address Book leaving it in status waiting to enter new smart-group's name
4) Double click on any .vcf file to import a new contact into Address Book
5) You'd be forwarded back to Address Book with a window offering to confirm contact's import
Bug itself:
Pressing the Add button actually imports a new contact to the Address Book, but does not close this pop-up window. As a result you can create many copies of the same contact before you notice the problem and close this window pressing Cancel button.
Testing the same sequence on MacMini and iMac caused creation of many Unnamed contacts and did not import a new contact at all.

I found the solution in a different post in the community.
You need to go into yr address book on yr MAC. Edit each contact 1 by 1... Cut (Cmd X) and copy (Cmd V) each pix back in... When you synch yr MAC and iPhone again, pix miraculously appear in Contacts and when you get a call from one of them.
Not a fancy solution but works!...

Address Book Grouping naming bug

on 3 computers running all 10.6.2 I have the same issue:
creating a group in Address Book and then name that group the name does not stay! I have to try about 3 times and always quit the app until it is renamed.
Can anybody confirm this here?

Address Book Accounts missing Account Info / Sharing panel

Address Book Prefs > Accounts shows On My Mac in left column but there is no panel to the right with Account Information and Sharing buttons.
Any ideas why they are lost and how to retrieve them?

How do I set up multiple address books

My husband and I use the same computer and want seperate address books while using the same account. How can we accomplish this?

Unfortunately, the simplest would be to have two user accounts and use fast user switching to access those accounts.
Otherwise, it appears you can go to Address Book > Preferences > Accounts and add one each for you and him.

How do I get rid of SYNC ALERT - I think it has to do with Address Book - I keep unchecking and it keeps popping up!!

Well I was following some instructions on possibly syncing the Mac Address Book with Google and its created havoc. I dont know if the instructions might have been for a previous OS or what. I originally was looking for ways to sync the Address Book with Gmail for an Android Phone...but for now, I just exported the Address Book to Gmail and will deal with new contacts as they come.
But what these instructions told me to do was to go to Address Book/Preferences/Accounts and check Synchronize with Google....Now Im not sure if thats what I want or what exactly that will do. (Since I already had exported my Address Book contacts to Gmail, the Google contacts should be the same as the Mac ones...but I got an error of 25 changes so I didnt want it to synchronize and tried to cancel it.)
I keep unchecking the box where it says Synchronize with Google but somehow it keeps getting checked again automatically. Every now and then a SYNC CONTACTS pop up comes up - and I dont know what to do because it doesnt give me an option to CANCEL ...It just says sync now or sync later...Again it tells me it has found 25 differences...which I find impossible (and when I check 'see details' - it seems like theyre the exact same contacts)...After the popup comes up, I check the Address Book and that sync with Google magically gets checked again -even though I keep unchecking it.
I dont know what to do ! Everything I find in forums talks about deleting mobileme or isync but I dont have and never have used any of those things. The forums said to delete isync from your Applications folder, but I dont have it there.
Any ideas? I just want to stop the popups!

Any ways to receive calls only from address book on Cisco Telepresence SX20?

I have been receiving numerous unknown calls on my conference call device and I would like to know if there are any ways to block these calls or even possibly only receive calls on the address book.

When it says "Status: Fixed" and Known Fixed Releases: is a version older than the one we use, does that mean that the problem should be resolved from that firmware version forward? Also wondering if "Fixed" means that we still need to do the workaround to fix the problem on ALL versions of firmware, or just the ones prior to 6.2.0 ? Thanks.

Contacts are missing in Macbook pro and iCloud address book

Hi, i backup my iPhone to my macbook pro and Icloud . When i looked into contacts, some contacts are missing and its not sync into macbook pro and iCloud also. How to fix this? how to get all contacts to my addressbook in both macbook pro and Icloud?

I had exported an address book backup: abbu
so since i wrote, i have found my way into the cloud: selected all entries - deleted them all from the cloud.
This wiped out contacts on my iphone and i pad, and MBP, as well as on the cloud. I then imported the abbu back into my now empty address book.
To repopulate the crowd, i selected all in my address book and created a single card vCard for export to my desktop. I then dragged that vcard into my empty cloud. Now my cloud has the same clean contacts as my MBP addressbook. The cloud then pushed the clean contacts into my empty ipad and iphone contacts.
I had to go back to Address Book>preferences>Accounts and Add an I cloud account - but if you accidentally create a second i cloud account - all of a sudden your address book will duplicate itself. I quickly reversed it by deleting one of the icloud accounts in my Address Book>preferences>Accounts.
I created a new entry on my MBP and it is now on all devices and in cloud
I also created a new entry on my iPhone and it is now in the address book on my MBP.
I feel empowered!!
Have i missed anything??
