Address Book - Can't add Notes

Using 10.5.3 I can't add Notes to my address book cards either in Edit mode or not in Edit mode. The word "Note" is grayed out and I can't type in the field.
What am I missing? I feel like I am doing something wrong.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Try clicking to the extreme right of "Note:"

  • I want to edit cards in address book and also add notes.

I have edited address book card frequently over the years. I have also added to the notes section. Editing used to require clicking Edit but adding notes could be started by just keyboarding the desired note.
Recently I can do neither of these functions. The help documentation talks about hitting the Edit button but it seems to have disappeared. The documentation is silent on adding notes.
Recently to cure this I set up permissions for the Libraries and had every enclosed file updated to allow me to do anything. This does not appear to be the cure for this.
    Has anyone had this problem?
I have spend many, many hours since installing Lion sorting out these kinds of problems. Changes to settings seem to come with updates. I wonder if anyone at Apple knows about this issue.

    Hi Mark.
The same issue in this post, and solve it!!!!!!
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16592940#16592940
I hope YOU solve this. Perhaps you may be repair permissions too.
Search in this support how to make this. I tell you how
Start the Mac and press cmd + R. Menú utilities/terminal. This open terminal and you may write "resetpassword".
This open the app and open the window app RESET PASSWORD (but we NOT RESET THE PASSWORD in this Action, only the permissions user and ACL).
Ten select the hard drive in the window that you want to restore permissions. In the List below select the user account you want to repair permissions. In the botón of the window PRESS in the bottom of the section REPAIR PERMISSIONS AND ACL. this Action takes several minutes in my MacPro.
    Good luck!!!!

    You said:
I am receiving bogus emails which claim to be sent by people in my address book, but actually are not.
    ...and:
Are you saying that my address book has not been hacked into?  That others are getting these email addresses from another source?
This confuses me.  Are you saying that you are receiving bogus e-mails from some of your contacts, or are you saying that they are receiving bogus e-mails from you?
If the latter, there are a number of reasons that people might be getting e-mail from you.  Malware, though technically possible, is extremely unlikely.  See Someone is sending messages from my e-mail address!
If the former, that's rather unusual.  The only decent explanation I can think of is that a bunch of your Windows-using contacts got infected with something and their machines are being used to spam everyone in their contact lists, which would include you.

  • Can I merge my iPhone address book with my iMac address book? I do not want to replace one for the other, just combine.

Can I merge my iPhone address book with my iMac address book? I do not want to replace one for the other, just combine them.
It seems that you have to choose one or the other, keep iMAcc addresses or iPhone.

Indeed you can merge the address book using iCloud. You can find the info here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3998. I am not sure if you can de-duplicate though.
If that doesn't work or you want more out of your address book, you can always try connex.io (I work for the company). It's a service that automatically syncs, deduplicates, cleans and updates your address book across many different devices and services. If you want to try it out, you can get a free trail version at www.connex.io.
    Good luck!
I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link.

  • No contacts in address book, can not find address book anymore

I was trying to switch default email accounts, Hughes.net was the default and Yahoo the secondary and I wanted to swap these around as I am no longer using Hughes net.
In doing so I lost all email folders and address books. I have rebuilt the folders but now I see that I have no address book in either accounts.
    Are they gone for good?
    Thanks.
    Jeff

There are two default address books in Thunderbird. Both of these address books can be copy pasted between mail accounts.
''Personal Address Book'' is called '''abook.mab'''
''Collected Addresses '' is called '''history.mab'''
These are stored in your Profile folder in the mail account name. But it would need your old mail account to be intact in order to copy anything from it to another mail account.
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Thunderbird
    * C:\Users\Windows user name\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\Profile name\ mail account name
The AppData folder is folder is a hidden folder; to show hidden folders, open a Windows Explorer window and choose "Organize → Folder and Search Options → Folder Options → View (tab) → Show hidden files and folders".
If your original mail account is still there: Profiles\Mail\mail account name
You could simply recover it. Info here:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Recovering_deleted_mail_accounts
Remember, when performing any changes in Profiles folder, Thunderbird must be closed first.

  • One of my 2 address books can no longer be viewed, how do I access it?

''locking this thread as duplicate, please continue at [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1051908 /questions/1051908]''
one of my 2 address books can no longer be viewed, how do I access it? It disappeared within the last few days. I can still find addresses that are in the 2nd address book, but I cannot view it, so only 1/8 of my addresses are now viewable. How do I access the 2nd address book?

Hi ronc2, there isn't a specific setting for this. Firefox's built-in JavaScript settings allow you to control several aspects of scripts*, but unfortunately not this one.
I previously tried to find some other options for individually turning off this event, but I couldn't find a way. Someone might be able to create an add-on to solve this problem, but it will take someone cleverer than I.
Extensions that disable scripts on a site-specific basis:
    * If you regularly visit some sites which do this, you can block JavaScript on that specific site using the YesScript extension. Unfortunately, other script-based functionality will be blocked as well.
    * YesScript does not preemptively block scripts on every site. If you have to visit a lot of random sites and want to take a paranoid approach of having scripting blocked until you see as much of the site as you can see without running scripts, then the NoScript extension would be for you. But even then it's "all or nothing".
''* These include: JavaScript enabled yes/no, override right-click menu yes/no, change order of windows yes/no, move and resize windows yes/no, close windows yes/no, specific features of pop-up windows, change images yes/no, detect copy/cut/paste and modify selection yes/no.''

  • How do I create a separate Address Book? I'm not asking about a mailing list but an address book where the addresses are not mixed in with my regular address b

How do I create a separate Address Book? I'm not asking about a mailing list but an address book where the addresses are not mixed in with my regular address book. I already have three address books created for me by Thunderbird. I add all new addresses to one of those but am afraid to delete the other address books because some of their addresses are not repeated in my "main" address book. So if I don't delete all the names in one of the existing books, I need to create an empty book that will not mix the addresses with those in another address book. HOW DO I CREATE A NEW, EMPTY ADDRESS BOOK? I want to be able to create various mailing LISTS using the addresses in this new book so I will eventually have a special address book with a variety of mailing lists I can use as I wish.

In 24.4.0 there is no File|New|Address Book. There is File|New|Address Book Contact. How do I create a new address book ?

  • How to send a message to an address book list as "bcc", not as "to"?

I have various lists of different people on my personal TB addressbook. If I press "write" (to a particular group), TB by default creates a message with all the recipients in "To" mode - i.e. all the recipients will see each other's email addresses. How do I change the default message setting to "bcc" without having to change every single entry in the email manually?

Do not start a message in the address book. It is not the best place to do that.
That is what the Write window is for. Open the Write window and turn on the contact sidebar by pressing F9.
Select the contact, contacts or list that you want to send to and then use one of the ADD TOO: buttons at the bottom of the sidebar.
Hold the control key while clicking items to select multiple items.

  • Can't add notes to invited events

When somebody sends an invitation (e.g. via outlook) and I accept the invitation in outlook, for some reason I cannot add notes to this event. I can however add notes to events I created myself. Also I cannot delete these 'external' events from my iphone.
    Somebody have a solution?
    Many thanks!
    Edwin

My iCal Preferences tell me that I have CalDAV (whatever that is). It seems that I lost the ability to attach files to calendar events with the recent Mobile Me calendar upgrade. I hope Apple will bring back this functionality soon. However looking at my iCal Help, there is an instruction given to attach files to events. Problem is that I can't seem to get it to work. It says ...
To attach a file to an event invitation:
    1. Double-click the event. If necessary, click Edit to open the event editor.
    2. Drag the file you want over the open event editor. You can also click Add File next to “attachments,” navigate to the file you want, and then click Open. The file appears in the “attachments” field.
    3. If the event is in a CalDAV calendar and you want to allow invitees to add or remove files from the event invitation, select the “Allow Others to Manage Files” checkbox. Only the meeting organizer can select or deselect this checkbox.
    - (iCal also allows you to see a preview of any file attached to an event. To see a preview, select the file in the “attachments” field, and then press the Space bar).

  • Address Book: Can't edit contact or add new

I have two computers and an iPhone that should be synching Address Book and iCal amongst themselves on Mobile Me. Recently, the iBook G4's Address Book has had some features disabled: the "edit" button is grayed out, the "+" button is grayed out, and trying to access the same functions under the file or edit menus, the same things are all grayed out. There doesn't seem to be anything in the settings or preferences that I can find that could be contributing to this problem. I need to be able to add and edit contacts from all 3 places, thus the point of having each of the devices and having Mobile Me. I don't know if this is an Address Book bug or a Mobile Me bug, as sometimes changes sync to iCal or Address Book, and sometimes they don't. Sometimes new changes are overwritten with old data, etc. Frustrating! It would seem an Address Book issue to not be able to add/edit though. Any ideas? And yes, both computers are on the same OS, 10.5.6.

Thanks to jamesk8752's link...I fixed it!!! :-) That link he posted brought me to the fix. I wrote it out easier to follow. I want to mention that when I upgraded to Mountain Lion the issue continued. This fix did the trick
    1. Make a Backup Archive of your AddressBook.app (or Contacts.app)
    2. Shut off iCloud Syncing (choose the option to delete the contacts).
    3. Now with NO contacts in AddressBook (Contacts) quit the application.
    4. Click on "go" and choose "go to folder" & navigate to [username]/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (even in Mountain Lion this is still accurate)
    5. DELETE the addressbook-v22.abcddb file. Empty trash (just because I have OCD).
    6. Reopen AddressBook/Contacts & create a new address card. You should now be able to edit it! Then delete it.
    7. Go back into System Prefrences and turn on iCloud Contacts.
Your iCloud contacts will then appear and you'll be able to edit, delete, add, etc! Everything will be right as rain!

  • Address book can not print

I am having an issue with Address Book showing menu File > Print. When I select Print, nothing happens, no print dialog box appears. It seems to ignore the print command key command as well. Then at times it is showing Print as grayed out - and it is not even selectable.
    Any ideas on this?

quit Address book and delete the file homedirectory/library/application support/address book/AddressBook-v22.abcddb. then start Address Book and try printing again.

  • Can't import csv file to Address Book - "file you selected not valid" error

I'm trying to import a CSV file of names and addresses to Address Book but it keeps telling me "The file you selected does not appear to be a valid comma separated values (csv) file nor a valid tab delimited file."
Even using this simple test data saved in a txt file:
    John,Doe,London
    Jane,Doe,Dallas
Anyone know a reason why the file could be not valid?
    Thanks, Mark

Your file needs to have the .csv extension on the end, so that Address Book knows how to interpret it.
