Address Book - Changing the address format?

A couple of years ago I imported all my old contacts into address book. I've now discovered that I had the address format set to USA in preferences and I'm a UK user. I've since changed the preference to UK but it this only affects new addresses that I add.
Is there a way to change those old addresses to UK format? I've tried exporting a V card and re-importing but it doesn't change.
TIA, Steve

Hi Steve, and a warm welcome to the forums!
I'd take a look at Barney-15E's Script here for converting to gb/uk...

My Mail Account in linked to my address book. The address book shows First Name, Last Name. When I start an email in Mail, the name does appear but the order is reversed...Last Name, First Name. I must have changed a setting somewhere but I don't know where. Does anyone know how to correct it?

I don't have any problem with my system. My guess is there is something there you aren't quite getting. I'd recommend a visit to your Apple Store, AASP or to contact AppleCare so they can coach you personally.
You can also play with the Address Book Preferences. However to see how changing a Preference affects the Address Book drag the Preferences window off of the Address Book so you can see both the Preferences window and Address Book Windows. Then toggle a Preference and you will see it instantly changes in the Address Book.

How do I create a separate Address Book? I'm not asking about a mailing list but an address book where the addresses are not mixed in with my regular address book. I already have three address books created for me by Thunderbird. I add all new addresses to one of those but am afraid to delete the other address books because some of their addresses are not repeated in my "main" address book. So if I don't delete all the names in one of the existing books, I need to create an empty book that will not mix the addresses with those in another address book. HOW DO I CREATE A NEW, EMPTY ADDRESS BOOK? I want to be able to create various mailing LISTS using the addresses in this new book so I will eventually have a special address book with a variety of mailing lists I can use as I wish.

In 24.4.0 there is no File|New|Address Book. There is File|New|Address Book Contact. How do I create a new address book ?

  • Contacts app, print Address Book, change the font

Am trying to print my Contacts list in the Address Book layout.  It displays as 2 columns when it is just name, phone and email.  When I select Address, there is too much info for 2 columns and it displays as 1 column.  I would like to change to a smaller font size so I can have the 2 columns.

Never seen or heard of it.
Try deleting the iCal plist and container. The first in user/Library/Preferences. Second in user/Library/Containers.

Unless your carrier doesn't have the required SIM card size, you can get a new SIM card from your carrier. There is usually no charge for this.
If you don't have an Apple iCloud account or if you do being accessed on the iPhone with contacts turned off for over the air syncing, you should be able to transfer contacts from the Address Book app on your Mac via the iTunes sync process. This is selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes followed by a sync.
If you have an iCloud account, you can sync contacts over the air with the Address Book on your Mac. After confirming your contacts are available with your iCloud online address book - checked by logging in with your iCloud account using a browser on your Mac, you can then turn Contacts on for over the air syncing with your iCloud account settings on your iPhone and your contacts will then be available there and kept synced automatically over the air between your iPhone address book, your iCloud online address book, and the Address Book on your Mac without having to sync with iTunes for this.

  • How do I change the default address book from the Personal Address Book?

Whenever I click on an email address from within an email and ask to add it to my address book, the contact is added to Personal Address Book. How do I change that so that new addresses will be added to another book?

I do not know of a way to change the default but after you click the star beside the address to add it to the address book, click the star a second time to open the edit dialog box. There is a drop down list of your address books to make the change there.

  • My MacBook Pro will not sync address book changes with my IPhone.  Why?  It used to.

My MacBook Pro will not sync address book changes with my IPhone.  Why?  It used to.

Then you may have to try manually resetting the syncservices folder by following Julian Write's post (from https://discussions.apple.com/message/9274781#9274781):
Ok, as you can't reset SyncServices in the "normal" way, you'll have to resort to the "other" way:
Although it's not advised to do so in normal circumstances, you'll need to manually delete the SyncServices folder.
Before doing so, you MUST make a backup of both your Contacts and Calendars:
In Address Book, choose *Export > Address Book Archive...* from the File menu.
In iCal, choose *Back up iCal...* from the File menu.
Then, make a backup of the SyncServices folder located at:
    ~/Library/Application Support/SyncServices
By backing everything up first, you don't risk losing anything.
Finally delete the aforementioned SyncServices folder and restart the Mac. This will force Mac OS X to recreate the SyncServices folder, and hopefully fix your problem.
I believe in Snow Leopard you can back up your calendar in File>Export>iCal Archive rather than File>Back up iCal as posted above.

  • Can't delete email AND address book changes randomly

As of yesterday I can highlight an email, hit delete but it doesn't go to the trash. I'll check my 2nd account, go back to the first account and all deleted messages are there. Plus, it will run continuously. Currently it says it is sorting. NEVER had this problem before and need help.
Secondly, my address book will randomly change the card names. I can go in, correct, save, close and the next time I open the address book some of them will be different. For instance one card is titled "Lexington". It has changed to "Lexington Lexington" several times or it will pick up the name of the last person in Lexington and show up as "Lexington Lastinger"

What sort of email account is this, POP or IMAP? What version of Mac OS X are you running; your profile says 10.3, but if that's true, then you're way behind the times and in the wrong forum. We need accurate information in your profile, so you need to update that.
Secondly, my address book will randomly change the card names.
No, this is not random. Mail and Address Book communicate, so when you receive an email from someone in your Address Book, if the name doesn't match the email address for that card, it is updated with the name in the email address.

  • Gconsync drops postal addresses with big Address Book changes?

After many years of procrastinating, I've thrown a lot of contacts into my Address Book just in time to send Christmas cards.  I've configured Address Book to talk with Gmail, which causes gconsync to run once an hour.
I've observed that when I do large amounts of changes in Address Book, like a dozen or so in an hour, the postal addresses of random contacts get lost at the Google end.  Once this happens, efforts to fix the contacts one-by-one seem pointless.  I have to save/export my Mac Address Book, delete contacts at both ends, then reload from my backup to make things right.
    Anyone else seen this behavior?

Finally fixed it.  I am quite sure one of your address books is messed up.  To fix it:
    1. Figure out which address book is messed up.  I have three, iPhone, iPad, iMac. Shut off iCloud on one of them and try address book updates on the other two.  When the problem disappears, you will know which address book is messed up.
    2. Next fix the address book on the errant device.  I did it by restoring, WITHOUT using a backup.  Can't use a backup because the same error will be there.  This is a pain because you need to reorganize your aps, logins etc.  So, you might want to try shutting off iCloud and removing the address book from the device.  Then turn iCloud back on.  It will load a new address book.  I don't know if this will fix the problem. Might be hidden files that have the problem.
    3. This, by the way, also caused a huge power drain for me.  You can tell if you have the same problem by opening address book and checking if it is continually trying to sync.

  • ITunes Fails to See Address Book Changes

Recently (suddenly), ITunes has stopped reflecting changes made to my Address Book. No changes made on my Macintosh are downloaded to my iPhone and no new groups added to the Address Book on the Mac are listed in the Contacts area in ITunes. This problem persists if I delete everything in ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/ and reimport an archived version of the current data.
Is there a file somewhere that iTunes looks at to determine the current contents of the Address Book? It clearly doesn't look directly at the Address Book data (unless there's a serious iTunes bug).

    That has no effect.

I upgraded to Maverick and since then I cannot paste an email address from my address book into the "To:" window. Why not?

You won't be able to change your rescue email address until you can answer your questions, you will have to contact Support in the country where you and your iTunes account to get the questions reset.
Contacting Apple about account security : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
When they've been reset you can then use the steps on this page to update your rescue email address for potential future use : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5620
or if it's available in your country you could change to 2-step verification : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5570

  • Multiple address books on the same computer: How to

    Hi!
I'll get in the near future my wife's iPhone 3G (unless she keeps it and take her 3GS instead) - but want want to be 100% sure we can have separate address books on the same computer. The question is simple: how do we go about that?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi!
If it's just the address book that should be different: in iTunes, you can specify for each device what it should sync. For your contacts, you can specify in iTunes which contact groups to sync (at least on my Mac using Address Book I can).
Does this mean I need to create separate contact groups in the same address book file or can I create a second file? I'd much rather use the second solution. The first solution would in fact mean creating three groups: "His", "Hers" and "Both". This is a shotcut for contact management nightmares!
    Thanks in advance,
    Claude

  • Is there a way to change the addresses used in an existing iMessage thread?

This is kind of a multi-part question. Let me describe my scenario.
I have many iMessage threads with other iPhone users where the "reply" addresses for one or both ends are the phone *numbers* instead of AppleID email addresses. (This could be due to a number of factors... either they had their "Start new conversations from" address set to their phone number, and/or they started a new conversation with me sending it to my phone number. How it *got* that way doesn't really matter). I want to be able to change the addresses of the conversation to AppleID's (so that I'll still get messages when I change SIM cards, among other reasons).
With iOS 8's new ability to add/remove people from conversations, I thought I would be able to add the AppleID address and remove the phone number address, but there are two problems with that: 1) iOS 8 seems to only allow this for conversations which began as multi-person conversations, and 2) it doesn't seem to want to let you add addresses for people who are already recipients via another address (in other words, if Alice is already on the conversation via her phone number, I can't add her AppleID to the conversation). I guess I could remove the person first, and then re-add them with the other address... but I'd feel safer if I could add the next one before removing the first one.
I know I could just tell the other person to delete our thread and start a new one, but I don't want to lose all of our dialogue and pictures (and I don't want to have to manually save it).
    So, the questions:
Is there a way to change the address my counterparty is sending to when they make further replies to our conversation?
Is there a way to change the address I send to when I make further replies to the conversation?
Is there a way to change the default address to use when trying to send someone an iMessage? (What I'm after here is a way to craft my "contact" entry in people's phones so that, when they try to send a message to me and start typing my name, my preferred address comes up on top).
As it looks like the only way to do this might be to use iOS 8's method of adding/removing recipients, is there a way of converting a two-person conversation into a multi-person one?

I think I may have solved it, actually.  I find that if I switch the timecode to NDF in the source viewer, it seems to work.  I have tried it on three clips and they have sync'd without problems.  Hopefully this will continue to be the case.

  • Purpose of the Address Book and the Bookmarks Menu

What is the purpose of the Address Book and the Bookmarks Menu under the show all bookmarks? What is a useful way to use the two? Thanks for any help or suggestions.

    Hi
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
In Address Book, you have the option of entering a web site address in an individual's record. In Safari, by selecting Address Book in System Preferences>Bookmarks, you can access a list of these web addresses via either the Bookmarks Menu or Bookmarks Bar.
Entries in the Bookmarks Menu are one way to enter, sort or access specific bookmarks. My preference is to access my Bookmarks via the Bookmarks Bar. More information can be found via the Safari Help menu (enter Bookmarks in Help's spotlight panel.
