Address Book contact list display

The issue is not Lion exclusive but a general Address Book "feature" The contacts categorizing by the first letter finishes with Z, i.e. it works only for the English alphabet. All contacts in Russian go under "#" category which is extremely inconvenient when using the app both on a laptop and a phone
Is there any known fix for this "feature"? Or maybe it's possible to suggest to the developers to fix the problem?
Thank you very much for any hints!

  • ADDRESS BOOK: Contacts listing/viewing order

ever since i synched my iphone my contacts on my iMac list correctly by last name. but now, some contacts are Last, First, and others are First, Last.
    anyone else experience this?
i would prefer all to be First, Last.

Try selecting all of your contacts, then open Address Book's card menu. I don't have Tiger in front of me at the moment, but I think the menu item you need is called Reset First/Last Name to Default.
There's an application-wide preference in the general pref pane for the name display order. And there's a per-card setting for this as well, which would override the application-wide preference. The menu items in the Card menu can change this setting on a per-card basis.

  • Printing Address Book Contact List

How can I print all the contacts in my Address Book?  I've backed up the list in MY DOCUMENTS, but I can't print it (no programs can open the document).   Can you print using the Blackberry Desktop Manager?  Other suggestions?

Hi and welcome to the forums!
Short answer is you can't. Print them out from your desktop organizer.

  • Address Book Contact List Separator/Header

    Hello all,
This one is a bit hard to explain but I will give it a shot.
When logged into my mobile me account, my contacts list is split into smaller lists by a letter separator/header. For example, everybody with a last name that starts with "A" is in the "A" section. Everybody that has a last name that starts with the letter "B" is in the "B" section. Etc, etc...
Is there any way to get that separation in the Address Book application itself? It is very handy in finding someone in the middle of my address book but looks to be only available on the mobile me website maybe?
    Thanks!
    Ian

You could I suppose make Address Book groups, one for each letter of the alphabet, and put your contacts into the appropriate groups. However, if I am looking for someone in Address Book I find it simplest to just start typing their name in the search box.

  • Address Book Contacts not displayed

My 8100 recently went off for repair and was replaced. The new phone does not recognise the contacts in the address book when it receives an SMS- only the mobile number is shown with the message. It was doing the same with incoming phone calls until i changed the name display from last name to first name, though this is still not 100% either. Would appreciate any tips or ideas, network operator shop staff have no idea. Otherwise i'm back to the shop for further repair/replacement.
    Many Thanks,
    Dan

The problem might be the sim card, usually if you changed the blackberry and you still have problems then its the sim card. Try a new one it might help. Also, the phone might be the same, sometimes when you send back your phone they dont replace it they try solving the problems on the first one.
I Hope this info was helpful.

  • Syncing address book contacts list to family using iCloud

As former mobileme family pack users, we could share all contacts stored on our Mac's address book between all 4 of our iOS devices in the family.
Since upgrading to iCloud we are only getting contacts from our individual accounts, is there a way to share them like mobileme could?

I read that there is a way to share an address book on multiple iOS devices, even if each person with thier iOS device has thier own iCloud account. It turns out  it is possible to add another, ie. more than one, iCloud account to an iOS device. I think then that one iCloud account would have the master Address book.
I haven't tried it yet.  It looks like you can do that through <settings><Mail,Contacts,Calendars><add account> and select an iCloud account.  Then you can go into <settings><iCloud> and manage which items from that iCloud account sync.  The only thing I haven't figured out is if you can do it on multiple Macs as well - my wife and I each have our own MacBook Pros.

I just looked in Address book preferences on my mac and it looks like you could add another iCloud account there as well. Tomorrow I'm picking up an iPhone 4s for my wife and will set up an iCloud account for her and do some playing around to see what works.

  • Address Book/Contact List keeps resetting

Anyone have any idea why my address book keeps resetting "thus duplicating the contacts I already have" in this format Smith;Mark/W?  The W is the for work.  I have gone in and erased all the duplicates and within days it has returned?  What app could be causing this?  FB?  Google Calendar?  And better yet how can I stop it?

  • Address Book contacts list

Can anyone tell me if its possible to hide the "on my mac" contacts list?
I recently upgraded to lion and so now using icloud for most things, however I dont see the need to have duplicate contacts
I have the same groups on the cloud as well as "On my mac" and only want to see just the icloud ones

Go into iCloud preferences and uncheck Contacts from the list. Choose delete Contacts from the compupter. This should clear all contacts from the AB.
Recheck contacts in the iCloud list and it should put only iCloud contacts on your computer and should not have On My Mac listed in the AB list.
If it still does, repeat the process, but completely sign out of iCloud, then sign back in.

  • Address Book contact list with 3-10 duplicates

I need help on how to correct my data base in my Address Book. Eversince it was sync with my yahoo.com database it got messed up.  How do I delete all duplicates by not doing it manually one by one?

Hi, have a similar but bigger problem. card --> Look for duplicates does not solve it.
from original 2000 adresses I now have 550,000 many of them massive duplicates. Causes MASSIVE time waste and delays.
Event correlates with me installing Outlook for Mac2011 sync programme.
now want to just delete address book and sync again and stay with Mac Address/Cal and disconnect from Microsoft.
question: can I simply delete address book in Finder? what happens when I go back into it? does it get newly created?
any other suggestion how to tackle?
    thanks for desperate help

  • Address Book contacts vanished - help!

I'm hyperventilating....my entire Address Book contact list has disappeared, four years' worth of critical info! I'm hoping someone can help me find/recover the data on my iMac.
Background: Last night, some of the apps on my iMac froze for an unknown reason. I was using Safari, left for a bit, came back and all of the Mac apps - Address Book, Mail, iCal, etc. had stopped responding. I Force Quit out of them, and rebooted my Mac. Mail and iCal were fine, all data still there.
Didn't use Address Book until just now - I opened it and it's empty - just the default 'new' data file that has my basic card and the Apple card. EEEKKK! I have years of irreplacable data in that missing file. What happened? I've never had such a problem in the 3 years I've had this Mac and system. Someone help ASAP, please! I have no addresses to send mail, no key business data or anything!
The Address Book app is still there, and the data folder has these files: ABPerson.skIndexInverted (292 kb, yesterday 9:51 pm), ABSubscribedPerson.skIndexInverted (8 kb), AddressBook.data (32 kb, today, 12:32 pm), AddressBook.data.previous (yesterday 9:53 pm), plus Images folder.
Thanks in advance if you can save my sanity and data.
    Abby

Well, if it's not being found thwn it's likely some kind of Disk corruption, the files may or may not still exist, but if the OS or other APPs can't find them then it's very likly the space those files use has been freed for use in writing to the Disk, which OSX does far too often.
    a virus or something?
    Not likely a virus.
And, what am I supposed to do next if I do recover from another computer (all I have is a PC laptop...)?
Cannot be done from a PC, sorry.
Am I just looking to find the Address Book file?
    Yes, mostly.
    more panicked than before....
Very sorry to be the messenger here, but if that stuff is important to recover, I've given you my best advice... You need another Mac, or another HD to install to, boot from, try to recover to.
If I can or need to explain it better/clearer please let me know.

  • How can I edit an Address Book Distribution List that will not display in Lion?

The option to edit an Address Book Distribution List (to select preferred emails for certain contacts) only appears as light print and does not respond to selection.  I have a number of Address Groups that display and funtion properly in Mail, but since installing Lion, the problem described occurs.  Any fix?  Thanks.

The key is that the Contact List is now being kept in the Cloud & you cannot edit the Distribution List in your Mac's Address Book.
    The fix is:
    Quit your Address Book
Go to  Menu --> Sys Preferences --> iCloud
    Uncheck the CONTACTS icon
    Close Sys Pref
Open Address Book - Edit your Distribution Lists (No longer Greyed out)
    Quit Address Book
Go to  Menu --> Sys Preferences --> iCloud
    Check the CONTACTS icon
You should be good to go!
    Hope this helps!
