Address Book Department Field Fails to Sync

The department field from my iMac won't transfer to the department field on my iBook and vice versa. The department field will be populated in one, but blank in the other. The number of contacts in my address books are equal. The contacts are updated, but without the right department field.
I've restarted my computers. I've updated the software from the apple menue. I've restarted my computers.
I try to use all of Address Book's fields. Shall I stop using the fields other than name and address? My only other option is to put the other data in the notes field. I don't have time to double check my data everytime I sync.

I don't have any ideas, Jack, but I do have the same problem. It's something that just popped up—one of those things that seemed to work one day and not the next. The data is there, it's just not populating the field in Address Book. Strange... and annoying.

  • Address Book Associates Field does not sync with iPhone

Apple went to the trouble of getting custom field names in the Mac OS Address Book to synchronize with the iPhone (which is wonderful), but they left one field 'unsyncable'; the associates field. If you list a contact's manager name, spouse name, child name, etc. in Address Book, it does not sync with the iPhone (OS 3.0.1) 'Phone' application. This is very useful (and embarrasment-preventing) when needing to remember the name of a contact's manager, wife, child, etc. Does anyone have any idea why Apple left this out of the sync? Certainly it couldn't have to do with saving memory...

Oh yes! i have this same problem - i have tried emailing Apple Customer Support but they were unable to help me. They advised me to speak to technical or raise the issue on the Apple Support board (but someone already has!)
so if someone can help us both out here with how to sync additional field information added on Address Book on Mac to then sync all this additional information to iPhone, we would be greatly appreciative!!Thanks,
    Mark

  • Address Book - Department Field Behavior

I have an Exchange account hosted by Rackspace. I can add a contact within Outlook or Outlook web access, and I generally include the department field.
However, when I check the contact within address book, the department field does not display. I can click edit - department is in the template - but still no data display.
Funny thing is, I can enter the department field within address book, and it does display in Outlook/OWA.
It seems to be a data retrieval/display issue, as the field obviously maps the same.
    Any ideas?

  • Sync between MacBookPro and iPhone 3G does not sync properly.  Calendars duplicate events but worse is that only contacts from Address book from letter T onwards sync.  Any contacts on iPhone which are not on Mac are lost during sync.

Sync between MacBookPro and iPhone 3G does not sync properly.  Calendars duplicate events but worse is that only contacts from Address book from letter T onwards sync.  Any contacts on iPhone which are not on Mac are lost during sync.
    Solutions?

No, I never really found an easy solution.  I believe it is an issue with some corruption in the iTunes database on the specific device.  In my case, both my iPad and iPhone now show duplicate stream songs if viewed through iTunes on my Mac, but they show different songs.  A couple years ago I had a similar issue on my iPhone, and Apple support suggested I back up the phone, completely reset it, and then restore it from the backup.  It did work, so I imagine it would probably work for my current issues with the iPhone and iPad.  But resetting and restoring an iPad or iPhone always makes me a little nervous that something will get lost.  When I did reset/restore the iPhone, I do have to say, the restore process was 100% perfect and I did not lose any data at all even though Apple support said I might.  If you try to go that route, I would suggest backing the device up both to a computer through iTunes, and to the iCloud so that you have a double backup.
None of this really resolves the issue with how the iTunes databases are becoming corrupted on the apple devices though, so it is very likely to happen again until they fix it.  I have been unable to determine if there were any specific actions or conditions which caused the corruption to happen in the first place.
Might be worth another call to Apple support, or dropping in the local Apple store if you have one near by.

  • I have several groups on my Mac Address Book and would like to sync only one group to each IOS5 device (each device getting a different group).   Is this possible?

I have several groups on my Mac Address Book and would like to sync only one group to each IOS5 device (each device getting a different group) via iCloud.   Is this possible?    If so, how is it done?
    Thanks in advance,,,,,

Can we control syncing at all? I can't seem to make a Local/On My Mac group in Address Book.

  • My iPod touch 2nd generation does not sync my contacts. I only have iCloud contacts in my address book. How can i sync that?

My iPod touch 2nd generation does not sync my contacts. I only have iCloud contacts in my address book. How can i sync that?

I do not fully understand you question.  To use iCloud on an iOS device requires iOS 5 and the 2G only goes to iOS 4.1.2 and thysyu can't access iCloud, including contacts.
Maybe you could sync the iCloud contacts with anopther program and sync that program with the 2G iPod.
The following smple states the following for Contacts:
iCloud: What if my device or computer doesn't meet iCloud system requirements?
    Contacts
If you want to check your iCloud Contacts, you can do so by visiting icloud.com from a Mac or PC (as long as it meets the browser system requirements for icloud.com).

  • How to import attachment into Address Book "Notes" field

Is it possible to import an attachment into the Address Book "Notes" field? Jpg, PDF, pages doc, whatever...? Don't really care if the file is "visible" (IE if photo, can actually SEE photo)... a clickable icon would be fine.
    Thanks

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
I'm not aware of any direct connector provided by RIM for this purpose. They do supply an ASCII/CSV import capability...see this KB:
KB11194 How to import contacts from an CSV file to the BlackBerry device
You'd have to find out from AOL how to get your contacts exported to an ASCII or CSV file.

  • When I sync my address book do I have to sync all groups?

I have an iPhone 3G. When I sync my address book do I have to sync all groups? One group I want to stay on my Mac but not show on my iPhone. Can I do that?

After selecting Sync Contacts followed by a sync, deselecting Sync Contacts followed by a sync does not remove the contacts from your iPhone as is done after deselecting Sync Music for music and after deselecting Sync Apps for apps.
At the Address Book menu bar on your Mac, go to File > Export and select Address Book Archive. Save the exported archive to your Desktop.
Follow this by deleting all contacts from the Address Book on your Mac. After all contacts are deleted from the Address Book on your Mac, launch the iSync application in your Applications folder. Go to iSync preferences and select Reset Sync History.
Follow this by reselecting Sync Contacts under the Info tab and syncing your iPhone with iTunes. This should remove all contacts from your iPhone.
If so, at the Address Book menu bar go to File > Import and locate/select your Address Book archive saved to your Desktop to restore your Address Book contacts and groups. Under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences, choose selected groups followed by selecting the Address Book groups you want available and synced with your iPhone followed by a sync.

  • Custom fields from Address Book on desktop don't sync to iPhone

I recently switched from a Palm Treo to iPhone. The sync wasn't seamless so I am editing contact info one at a time. I noticed that when I add custom fields to a card in Address Book they don't sync to my contacts in iPhone...why?
For example, I've created fields for the names of children but when I view the contact on my phone I only get the contacts Bday, Anniv and Notes section. Very frustrating since I'm spending time filling all of this info in. Can anyone help? Thanks!!

I also migrated from a Treo to an iPhone, and was hoping to have custom field information transfer from my desktop to my iPhone. It would be rather handy when I need help remembering the name of someone's spouse, etc. Has someone created an iPhone app for this perhaps?

  • Can't sync Address Book note field to iPhone contacts

    Hi:
I make heavy use of the "note:" field in my MacBook Address Book app. I store all kinds of detailed info about people, organizations, etc. in that field. I would like to be able to access that information on my iPhone 3G, but the phone's Contacts app has no corresponding "note" field.
Could this be a result of the way I imported data into my MacBook when I first got it?
In searching the fora, I found several people who said their iPhone contacts sync nicely with the Address Book note, and others who say it doesn't sync at all. Can anyone please shed some light on this for me?
    Thanks!

Not quite sure what you mean by "editing" but I've tried every method of selecting, deleting, cursor placement, backspacing, and typing I can think of -- again, with and without the Edit button clicked. I did seem to accumulate a huge number of duplicates along the way, and there were more than a thousand cards in my Address Book; maybe I went over the limit?

  • Don't want to sync Address Book "Note:" field

Does anyone know how customize the syncing of Contacts from Address Book so that everything but the "Note:" field is synced?
FYI, I'm syncing to a Palm Treo 700p (Verizon Wireless).
    Power Mac G5 Dual 2.5GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

It's not possible to change the conduit field content and label mapping in the iSync Palm Conduit to include additional fields or exclude the Note: field. There is no provision to turn include or exclude data globally, or on a record by record basis.
While you still do not get all of those options with the Missing Sync for Palm OS with the Mark/Space Contacts conduit, you get far better support for categories and groups, contact photographs or icons, additional address fields, a URL and IM address, and more telephone numbers and electronic mail addresses:

  • IPhone & Address Book: which fields will sync?

I'm in the process of acquiring an iPhone (waiting for Orange UK PAC code before I move to O2 UK). In the meanwhile I thought of starting a clean Address Book on the Mac that will sync with the iPhone.
The problem is, based on some comments here, the iPhone doesn't seem to support all the fields that are available in the Address Book (like prefix, suffix, etc.)
So my question to someone out there with an iPhone is... which fields does it support and which does it show by default on the contact list?
I'll give you an ideia of what I want so that you can help me finding the better way of doing it:
I have lots of old university friends. On my SonyEricsson W880 I have them all saved with the prefix ULP (university name) followed by the nickname.
I want to build a clean Address Book so I was using the prefix to enter ULP, i was entering the first and last name and then added a new field for the nickname. But if the iPhone doesn't support prefixes nor nicknames, i would end up with a name like John Doe that, to me, is not immediatly identifiable. Its actually easier for me to check that John Doe is an old coleague from University (the ULP prefix) and his nickname was JarJar for example.
So, again, which fields are synced and what is the best way to achieve what I want without having to cheat (like inserting nicknames or suffixes in first and last name fields)?
    Thank you.

On the iphone, when you go to your contacts (Phone>Contacts), by default you'll see all your contacts, and at the top it will have a title saying "All Contacts" and to the left of that a button saying "Groups". If you tap that button, you get to a screen that lists all your groups, with the title "Groups" at the top. If you then tap on a group, say your ULP group, you get to a list of contacts that are in that group. It looks just like the All Contacts list, except that the only contacts listed are those in that particular group, and the title at the top says the name of your group. And the "groups" button is still there.
Contacts in the Address Book can be in more than one group too. I have a group named "business" that has a lot of different contacts, some of whom are also in my "personal" group, and many of which are in my "clients" group. I generally leave it at "All Contacts" but if I can't remember the name of someone, like say my kids' dentist, I'll go to my "medical" group where I know he is.
I hope that clears things up. Groups are very useful!

  • Address Book 'Birthday' field not sync onto Palm e2 'Birthday' custom field

    Hi,
In my OSX Address Book, I have a 'Birthday' field in which I want to isync to my Palm e2 contact.
To date, I have not been able to transfer this information even though I have created a 'birthday' custom field in the palm device. This information does not get isync between Address Book and e2 Contact.
Does anyone else have this problem?
If you have solved it, I hope you can share this with me please.
    Thanks.

With the Address card in Edit mode you should be able to click the year field and after it highlights blue, change it to the year you need.
    According to Address book Help, in the Address Book Help Menu;
You can keep track of contacts’ birthdays by creating a birthday calendar that automatically includes all the birthdays in your address book.
    1. In Address Book, make sure you’ve entered the birthdate for each contact whose birthday you want to track.
    2. In iCal, choose iCal > Preferences.
    3. In the General pane, select the “Show Birthdays calendar” checkbox.
Birthdays in your address book are automatically added to the Birthdays calendar in iCal. When you add or remove birthday information in Address Book, the Birthdays calendar is also updated. You can’t make changes to the Birthdays calendar in iCal; to change it, you must edit the information in Address Book.
You can check in iCal Help for info on setting alerts.

  • ICloud Address Book Duplication and Calendar Not Syncing

    Hi guys,
I recently upgraded to iCloud despite the number of issues I read about on these forums. My initial reaction was a positive one but now I have two things I am struggling to work out:
My Address Book's search function completely froze up, meaning I couldn't type in the name of the person and they came up. I solved this by deleting an Address Book file in the Library as per a post on these forums. However now when I turned iCloud back on I have ALL of my contacts TWICE. The worst part is that merging them does not work as the system says they are coming for two different sources. Any suggestions? They only list ONCE on the iPhone.
My Calendar is not syncing from iCloud onto my iPhone. I update the Calendar on my laptop but my iPhone calendar does not get any changes to it unless I sync from iTunes. I have iCloud Calendar sync turned on on the laptop and the iPhone. Can you help?
Thanks a lot in advance for anyone able to assist me with these issues. Really appreciate it.
    Best regards,
    Juha

Solved it myself. What I did:
    1) I have four Lion OS and two iOS devices.
    2) I kept one computer with the complete address book I wanted to start with but disconnecting it from iCloud's Contact sync via Apple Menu > System Preferences > iCloud uncheck Contact Sync
    3) Logged into iCloud.com and deleted all the contacts and groups manually ( many keyboard shortcuts worked )
    4) On the main computer, using textedit, I replaced semicolons I was using to delimit items in the notes field with backslashes.
    5) Once I confirmed all the other computers and devices had no entries in Address Book, on the main computer I turned back on iCloud Contact syncing. It worked. Correct count of entries and no more breaking notes at the semicolons!
    6) Immediately all the other iCloud computers and devices updated to the correct notes! Finally.

  • Calendar server and address book server login fails with outlook connector

    Hi all,
I have installed Java Communication Suite 5 according to the doc http://blogs.sun.com/factotum/resource/comms5-install-linux.html.
When i deploy the connector i get the pop ups saying "Server:servername:3080
    Error:service not available" also
    "Server:servername:80/uwc"
    Error:service not available"
asking to login to calendar server and address book server.Clicking "OK" allows install.
In outlook i can send and receive mails but not the meeting requests. It gives the error "login to calendar server" when i create a meeting request.
Please let me know what i have to do to get rid of the error. The username and passwd entered is correct.

    Hi,
When i deploy the connector i get the pop ups saying
    "Server:servername:3080
Error:service not available" also Do you get exactly what you say above, or have you substituted in the real server name for "Server:servername:" above?
I would check through the outlook connector deployment configuration to verify that you have inserted valid information into all of the host & port fields - perhaps check the .ini file that is created to see if it has "Server" and "servername" listed.
    "Server:servername:80/uwc"
Error:service not available"You are able to log into UWC via the web-interface and access your calendar/pab and edit/modify/delete calendar & addressbook entries right? The services are all up?
asking to login to calendar server and address book
server.Clicking "OK" allows install. The outlook connector deployment software gives you the option to increase the logging level, try that and see what the logs say - what was it trying to connect to/check which failed.
In outlook i can send and receive mails but not the
meeting requests. It gives the error "login to
calendar server" when i create a meeting request.
Please let me know what i have to do to get rid of
the error. The username and passwd entered is
correct.I suspect this is more of an underlying configuration issue that needs to be sorted out, once that happens you shouldn't have to keep logging in.

    Shane.
