Address book disappear, Application Support folder can not be opened

My address book disappear from my MacPro, I know it is in the User Library-Application Support folder, but when I try to open that folder, it has a red tag on the folder and it said I have no Authority to open that folder, I am the only one using this machine, never have this problem.  And it will not allow me to restore the address book from Time Machine back to this folder.  What's wrong? I think I need to figure out why it wont let me open the Application Support folder, could anyone help? thanks.
One Symptom:  when I run the address book App, and try to import  address file, the Menu bar- File-the Import dialog was greyed-out and can not be used.

Could you please check the Sharing &permissions of these two folders (command +I). Check to see if you have "Read&Write access to these folders. It should be your user name with read&write privileges.
You will have to open the lock on the bottom right and it will request the admin password. Should your name not be there, select it by clicking on the plus sign on the bottom right and selecting your user name. Select Read&Write privilege and under the gear wheel beside the plus and minus signs,Make sure you apply to enclosed items.
It sounds like you somehow got them buggered. Rebuilding the permission table should of cleared up the problem. This could be a case of booting with your install DVD and rebuilding permissions from there.
                                                        Food for thought.
Next time you even think of modifying anything in you user library, Duplicate the whole folder and then you have a reference to go by. Just make sure that it is deleted after you are finished. This should be a standard step when troubleshooting. Changing something.....make a copy.

    Hello Bob.
You may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] and select ''Disable all add-ons''. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme. You can troubleshoot plugins the same way.
If you want support for one of your add-ons, you'll need to contact its author.

  • Address Book Version 4.1 (687) can not add new contact Leopard OSX 10.5

Well, I have tried to add a contact using Mail, or using Address Book.
    No-Go.
The "New Card" under File->New Card is even grayed out. I have over 16 Gigs of space available, so it is not a space issue on the hard drive.
I do use and sync with i-Phone, could that be an issue?

What happened when you tried to revert to backup on the Tiger machines? The data structures used by Leopard Address Book are completely different from those used by Tiger.
You should be able to get the notes transferred in vCards - make sure that you have the option set in Leopard Address Book's vCard preferences.

Get a USB drive of 2TB or more.. assuming your TC is 2TB. Either preformatted Mac or plug into your Mac and format it standard Mac OS Extended Journaled in disk utility.
Do a full archive of the TC. You do this using airport utility. Do not click the erase disk.. I marked in green.. just the archive.. that is to backup the internal disk to the USB disk. It is not fast.. take it that the process will go at around 40-50GB/hr.
Once you complete the archive .. it is a direct image of the data on your TC.. you can then plug it into your computer directly.. and then try and open the files you lost.. if you cannot open them.. open disk utility and fix the permissions.
    http://osxdaily.com/2015/01/13/repair-disk-permissions-mac-os-x/
Or try the methods apple recommends..
OS X Yosemite: Set permissions for items on your Mac
It is possible to fix things on the USB drive because it is locally mounted.. but you cannot fix it on TC which is network drive.

Note that the user Library folder is hidden by default on Lion. You can get to it by holding down the Option key in the Finder's Go menu, use the Go To Folder command and paste in the full path, or use Terminal to make your ~/Library folder permanently visible.

  • IWeb is not in Application Support Folder.  Why?  Help!!

I can't figure out how to backup iWeb files to a CD/DVD. I have read everything on the web. It sound like I need to go to my library/application support and find iWeb, then back up "domain.sites".
The big problem with that: iWEB IS NOT IN MY APPLICATION SUPPORT FOLDER.
I've seen other people post with this problem, but no solutions.
    Help.

I hadn't done that...however, I still don't find it. If you want to see a jpg screenshot of the search, you can go to:
    http://flickr.com/photos/lonelymoose/2169195713/
Do you see the domain file in there anywhere?
I've been using iWeb forever. Got iLife 08 this fall. Have successfully published a complex web site and had it up and running for months now. I needed to know how to save a copy for backup...because I just should and because there's another long story problem....but I can't find how to save. Everything I read related to what you are suggesting, but that iWeb file/domain file is nowhere to be found. How can this be?

  • Constant Contact + Address Book Exporter application

Since installing Snow Leopard and Quickbooks 2010 (and turning back on Sync in QB) my Address Book Exporter application will not export names and email addresses without all having errors. Can no longer import them. Any suggestions and thank you.

Be sure you are looking in the right place:
    /Home/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/. It's a folder, not a file, and it's located in your Home folder's Library.

  • TS1541 I tried importing email addresses from gmail and now my address book is locked up and will not work. Help please.

I tried importing email addresses from gmail and now my address book is locked up and will not work. Do I need to delete my address book software and reinstall? If so, what is the proper way to do this? New to Macbook software. I have tried several things and nothing has helped. I have backed up photos, movies, etc. My addresses are on my iphone so I can sync them later right if I loose my data?
Thanks for your time and expertise,
    T.

You can probably resolve this by removing some Address Book preference files rather than deleting your Address Book application.
First turn off Synchronize in Address Book Preferences if you can.
Next restart Address Book and try to export everything to your Desktop.
I have had a play and found my Address Book preference files. In the following ~/Library is the Library within your Home folder. Any numerals may differ on your Mac. Quit Address Book before doing anything with these.
1 - Display details and things set in Address Book Preferences
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.plist
2 - Has no data - not sure what this does
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.abd.plist
3 - Has last sync date - may have more if I used sync
    ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.AddressBook.sync.000393735c06.plist
    4 - My contact details
    /Library/Preferences/AddressBookMe.plist
5 - Individual addresses and groups stored as separate files within:
    ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/Metadata
6 - All of these addresses are are also in this single database:
    ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/AddressBook-v22.abcddb
If you wish to remove all addresses drag both 5 & 6 to your Desktop.
If you wish to reset preferences drag 1 your Desktop.
Removing 3 may resolve sync issues but I am unable to test this.
If you wish to reset everything drag all except 4 to your desktop.

  • Mysterious numbered file appears in Application Support Folder.

I had posted this question a few days ago and now I found the original post is locked for some reason. I would like to continue a related question and so I am posting a new, but similar, question:
I was looking through my OSX installation and I found this mysterious file placed in my Application Support Folder in my library:
    username/library/application support/7103555
It is named "7103555" and it is a Unix Executable File (according to "Get Info") I was worried it could be a virus - but now I doubt it (but you can never be too careful). Should I delete it?
It looks like this when you open it:
    cd /System/Library/SystemConfiguration/PrinterNotifications.bundle/Contents/MacOS
    # SUDO is causing entries in the console log making me believe
    # that it's not getting run correctly. I am removing SUDO from the
    # command lines.
    #sudo ./makequeues -u
    #sudo ./makequeues -r
    ./makequeues -u;./makequeues -r&
    exit 0
Wayne indicated it is only a shell script call to the PrinterNotification.bundle. Wayne, will I be OK to just leave it or should I delete it?
I am left feeling "somewhat" assured that this mysterious file is OK. I am still tempted to delete it - but I am not sure if I should. What bothers me about it is that (as I mentioned originally), when I select the file and choose "Get Info" it indicates it is a "Unix Executable file". That sounds like a recipe for a potential virus to me. And I know there aren't many viruses targeting macs however that fact never reassures me.
Also, all the other files that end up in this users "application support" folder are clearly identified by their creators. For example, when I installed Mozilla Firefox, its support files are created at this location and they are clearly labelled "firefox". On the other hand, this mysterious file is not labeled and is only given a number as so:
    username/library/application support/7103555
Should I leave it or delete it?
PS When I get a chance one day, I will install ClamXAV and run that as well. I am sure I don't have any viruses but it wouldn't hurt to give it a try - especially considering its free (actually its by donation).
PS If anyone is interested in the original discussion here is the original post:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=534153&tstart=0
    PS
Thanks Mulder, Wayne and Ewen for your replies to the original post and for your help - and for the interesting, informative debate too

    Thanks etresoft
Yes, I tried printing again and the file remains. After printing and during printing no other files are added to this location (my user "Application Support" folder). Strange. Its only a 4 K file and when I open it in text edit it reads what I mentioned above (SUDO is causing entries in the console log followed my a few other lines of text about makequeues).
The printer is an HP cp1160. Maybe it is not a well-designed print driver. It works but I think its strange that this file ends up in Application support, without a name, doesn't disappear and is a "Unix executable file". When I do a "Get info" on the file it says it is a "Unix executable file".
Until I hear from anyone else, I am just going to leave it alone. (I also will not attempt to "save it" after I open it in test edit - I'll just let it be). In the future I will watch this file and later I will run a virus scan on it with ClamXAV.
I am gradually becoming assured that it is probably a safe file to leave alone. (I was so tempted to delete it).
Actually I might delete it as an experiment later and also delete my HP cp1160 printer driver (if I can find it) then re-install the HPcp1160 printer driver again to see if this file comes back. I might try this. I'll have to think about that.
    Thanks again etresoft.
