Address Book Disappears After Opening

My address book flies up above the top of my screen when I open it. It will appear when I hit F3, but then it disappears again when I click on it to open the page.
I can move the application to different desktops, where I can see the very bottom of the window, but am unable to use the mouse to drag it down to where it can do me any good.
On a frustrating meter, it's probably a five-and-a-half, or six. It's been like this for several weeks, and I probably ought to get this figured out before too much longer.
My software all seems to be updated. I've force quit the application, rebooted the machine, and nothing seems to be giving me any satisfaction.
I thank you in advance for any help you can give me on this one.
Peace,
Paul

Well, as a place to start, I would recommend you go to Applications>Utilities>Disk Utilities>select your Harddrive in the list at the left and run Repair Permissions twice.  If that doesn't solve it I would next reboot the computer while holding down the Command - R keys to boot into the Lion Repair Partition, and there select Utilites and run Disk Repair.  That may solve your problem.
Hope this helps

  • Address book disappear, Application Support folder can not be opened

My address book disappear from my MacPro, I know it is in the User Library-Application Support folder, but when I try to open that folder, it has a red tag on the folder and it said I have no Authority to open that folder, I am the only one using this machine, never have this problem.  And it will not allow me to restore the address book from Time Machine back to this folder.  What's wrong? I think I need to figure out why it wont let me open the Application Support folder, could anyone help? thanks.
One Symptom:  when I run the address book App, and try to import  address file, the Menu bar- File-the Import dialog was greyed-out and can not be used.

Could you please check the Sharing &permissions of these two folders (command +I). Check to see if you have "Read&Write access to these folders. It should be your user name with read&write privileges.
You will have to open the lock on the bottom right and it will request the admin password. Should your name not be there, select it by clicking on the plus sign on the bottom right and selecting your user name. Select Read&Write privilege and under the gear wheel beside the plus and minus signs,Make sure you apply to enclosed items.
It sounds like you somehow got them buggered. Rebuilding the permission table should of cleared up the problem. This could be a case of booting with your install DVD and rebuilding permissions from there.
                                                            Food for thought.
Next time you even think of modifying anything in you user library, Duplicate the whole folder and then you have a reference to go by. Just make sure that it is deleted after you are finished. This should be a standard step when troubleshooting. Changing something.....make a copy.

  • My address book won't open after installing Lion. Has this happened to anyone else?

I recently upgraded to Lion and couldn't be more pleased, except that my address book won't open now. It just bounces and then gives up and sends an error report to Apple. Please help.

I have the same problem. Has anyone solved this problem?

  • Old address book will not open in Snow Leopard

After upgrading to SL, attempting to access AB in the dock brings up the message "This version of Address Book will not open in this operating system. You have Address Book version 4.1.2". Querying Apple Support brought suggestions from reinstalling just Address Book to utilizing Time Machine. Solution was incredibly simple.
When upgrading to SL, the OS upgraded AB...but only in Applications. If you're getting this message, go to Applications and click on AB there. If it opens, just delete AB in the Dock, then transfer the new, updated AB to the dock, and you're all set.

Somehow you've retained an old version of Addressbook (version 5.0.3).  The current version is 6.1
Look in the apps folder to see if you have the current version, the dock icon may be pointing to the old version.

  • Address Book Will Not Open in 10.2.8

I just received an older PowerPC G4 with 10.2.8 at work and while making changes to some stuff I noticed that Address Book would not open. It pops up like it's opening in the dock and then quits and disappears.
I've read around and it seems that when most people are having the Helvetica font problem. I checked that and everything is cool there, I've even moved all the plist stuff to the desktop to no avail. I have no idea what could be wrong.
The console gives me this when I try to run Address Book...
dyld: /Applications/Address Book.app/Contents/MacOS/Address Book can't open library: /System/Library/Frameworks/SyncServices.framework/Versions/A/SyncServices (No such file or directory, errno = 2)
...but I can't find anything online. Anybody able to help me out with this problem?

  • 10.4.7 update and now my Address Book won't open

I recently ran a software update and the Mac OS X Update 10.4.7 errored out. After the required restart I now find my Address Book won't open.
Any advise to fix this problem?
Is it safe to run the 10.4.7 update again or will this problem repeat?

    hi there--
i would check out this thread. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1863756&#1863756 basically, try repairing permissions first. then if that does nothing, see if you have your addressbook.data file. it's possible you could rename a file like this user to regain your info. if the addressbook.data file is there, select it and get info on it by pressing the apple and i on the keyboard. ensure that you have read/write access to the folder. make yourself the owner and make the rest of the fields as open as possible. also, if the address book launches in a different user (you could create a test user) you could do a number of things. if you have a backup of the address book in another place you can try pulling the com.apple.addressbook.plist from the preferences folder in the home user library. do not do this if you have no backup. also you could check ~library/address book plug-ins. if there's stuff in there, try pulling folder to desktop and restarting the computer. keep me posted as to whether or not you make any progress. • When I launch address book, multiple windows open

When I launch address book, multiple windows open, and I can't find a way to close them unless I do it one at a time.  I must have chosen at some point "open all contacts" or something like that, but am at a loss as to how to prevent this in the future. I've tried command +option+w, to no avail.  Ideas?  thanks!

    Untick this box:
Or use alt/option + Cmd + Q to Quit and DIscard Windows.

  • My address book does not open when I click on the "To" bar in an email.

I recently upgraded to Thunderbird 4.1.0. Since that time my address book does not open when I try to address an email from the "To" or other lines. I have to manually open the address book and cut and paste the address. How can I reconnect the address book to the email program?

Thank you. You solved my problem. I appreciate it.

  • Apple Address Book Won't Open

On my iMac G5, my Apple Address Book won't open. It has been working perfectly and I've never had a problem since buying the computer about a year ago. Though the name appears on the top menu bar and the triangle shows beneath the Address Book icon on the Dock, nothing appears on the screen. I ran the Disk Utility Repair Permissions, but aht didn't correct it. I've rebooted and that didn't solve the issue either. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Verify/repair your disk first (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
I don't know how to troubleshoot Address Book, other than replacing its data with a backup copy if you have one, or just getting rid of that data. Address Book stores the preferences in ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.plist, and everything else in the ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook folder.
You may try moving those files out of there, to the Desktop. You may try removing just the com.apple.AddressBook.plist preferences file (so that Address Book re-creates it again), for example, or removing just AddressBook.data and renaming AddressBook.data.previous to AddressBook.data. Whatever you do, make a backup copy of those files first, just in case.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder.

This is most inconvenient and frustrating

Norton Version 5.0 works with Mozilla 4.0 with a patch from Norton. I went to Norton help tab, chat line, and Norton assistant took over my computer, upgraded my Norton version 3.0, and installed the patch free of charge. all problems solved.

  • Address Book doesn't open in Mavericks

Since upgrading to OS X 10.9.2 the Address Book doesn’t open.  I get the error message:  You can’t use this version of the application “Address Book” with this version of OS X.  You have “Address Book” 5.0.3.  The question mark sends me to the Apps store but there’s no Apple Address Book there.  My updates are current.  How do I fix it?

    Hello Tom,
Thank you for the question.  Address Book was called Contacts starting with OS X Mountain Lion.  When looking in your Applications folder on your Mac, look for the Contacts application to manage your contacts:
    Contacts (Mavericks): Manage your contacts

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Just upgraded my OS10.4 to snow lepard  and now itunes will not open. I hope to further upgrade to Lion. Ps my address book will not open either!

operate or open, also my address book will not open. Am hoping to upgraded further to lion asap.

Office 2011 will install in a separate folder. But do not install Office 2011 until you remove Office 2004. It comes with its own uninstalled located in the MS Office folder. Only use the uninstaller to get rid of it. Then install Office 2011.
Office 2004 and Other Applications Don't Work in Lion/Mountain Lion
If you have Office 2004 which is a PPC-only suite, it will not work in Lion/Mountain Lion. You need to upgrade to Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion/Mountain Lion.
You may want to consider as well:
These two suites are similar to Libre Office but not as current or as well-supported:
    NeoOffice
    Open Office
And, then there is Apple's iWork suite:
Pages - word processing and layout
    Keynote - presentation
    Numbers - spreadsheet
Each can open and save Office compatible files. They may be purchased separately via the Mac App Store for $19.99 each.
As for other software, any PPC-based software will not run in Lion or Mountain Lion because Rosetta is no longer part of OS X. You will need to upgrade to Intel versions of the software.
(Access to the Mac App Store requires Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or higher and an Apple ID.)

  • My address book will not open. Can someone help me?

My address book won't open. I can add new address's from a email but when I try to edit anything it will not open. I run an imac, with os x10.4.11.

Ok... this software: Pacifist can extract applications from your system restore disk. You could try that.
Or... go here for help with reinstalling Mac OS applications:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1561?viewlocale=en_US
Question for you. How much free drive space do you have? Check to see how much available drive space you have. Right or Control Click your MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window, select the black arrow so it faces down. You will see Capacity and Available. Make sure your have a minimum of 10% free drive space, 15% is better. Not enough available drive space will cause apps to not open, freezes, and crashes.

  • Address Book will not open after 10.3.9 update (plus others)

I've seen some close postings on this but not exactly:
Doing maintainance on someone's iBook 900 mhz, 640 RAM, and did a boatload of updates after running Main Menu Batch scripts. I tested all apps afterwards and Address Book turned from normal to generic icon when I tried to open it.
    Here's a few items:
Ran several tests, permissions, reinstalled Combo update to no avail
Address Book does open within Email app
    Not Font Book issue
Address Book says size is 561K(?) in Info, and has only one address in it
Tried and failed moving preference plist file out
I'm not sure if this was working before I ran updates, but assume the mass of updates hosed it.
Thanks in advance if you have any insights. Would like to return it in close to working order.

Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all filesystem issues, if any, use Pacifist to reinstall Address Book from the Panther installation disks.
Finally, if the version of the system software on your installation disks is earlier than what you're using now (and only in that case), then you must also reinstall the Combo Update for the type of computer and the version of Mac OS X you're using, to bring the Address Book application back in sync with the rest of the system:
Mac OS X 10.3.9 Combo Update
You may also want to read the following articles for guidelines on how to properly install system updates:
    Troubleshooting installation and software updates
    Installing software updates
Basically, you should verify/repair the startup disk before installing the update, no applications should be running while installing it, and you may experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modifications (not normal applications) installed.
