Address book Elements 12 - Adding contacts.

I am unable to get new contacts to stick in Address book. I am able to share an image via e-mail, or photo-mail. I  have a couple of recipients in an address book, but am unable to effectievely edit the list. I go through the motions starting by either clicking on the silhouette taht appears with recipient list, or by going through Edit> Address book. This gives me a standard looking form to fill in with new contacts name, address, and email address. I don't see any option about saving or use one time only. click ok or press enter to finish and find nothing is saved.  Also when I am therefore entering address manually to the e-mail there is a nice looking button by the address bar that says 'Open address book.' Clicking this does nothing.

If you are going to reactivate synchronization, then do this first:
• launch iSync
• open the Preferences… dialog
• press the Reset Sync History… button
This will leave your sync clients registered and your data intact, but remove any indication that you have ever synchronized before, clearing the truth database and triggering an initial slow synchronization once you re-enable to process and initiate your next event.

  • Can't edit/see Address Book entries after adding contact image

I added a photo to one of the contacts in Address Book and then all the card info for all contacts disappeared. I still see the names in the "name" list, but I cannot add a new one, edit any of them or do anything. I added the photo from iPhoto and then it seemed to die. Any tips on how to remedy, or at least wipe clean and start over? I thankfully only had three contacts in there (new computer) but I suppose I won't attempt to add any photos in the future. I just need to restart the application somehow and I don't know how to do that. Mac help menu didn't seem to address this at all.
    Thanks for any help.

  • ADDRESS BOOK CRASHES WHEN ADDING CONTACT

    Hi guys,
I've been having this problem since Mac OS X v.10.5. I have since (for other purposes) wiped clean my Macbook various times, updated it to Snow Leopard, and wiped it again a couple of times. After each wipe or update, the Address Book application works fine, but after a couple of weeks it starts to crash.
This happens when I try to add a new contact. I click on the + button and am able to enter the card info, but when I click + again or close the application or anything else, Address Book crashes (with the usual afterward prompt of sending an error report, etc.). When I open it again, the added contact is not there.
PLEASE help me. I use Address Book quite a lot and it's truly bothersome to have it not working.
    Thanks!

When you reinstall, do you also restore your contacts from a backup?
If so, you may have brought over whatever it is that is causing you problems.
First, open Address Book and create an Address Book archive (File menu, export…)
Second, go into your user/Library/Application Support/AddressBook folder and delete the
AddressBook-v22.abcddb file. It is an index to the metadata (vCards).
Third, go into your user/Library/Preferences and delete the com.apple.addressbook.plist file. That is the Address Book preferences. So, you will have to edit them back to your liking if everything starts working correctly.
Now, try Address Book and see if it works ok.
If you are syncing with MobileMe, you might consider resetting sync services if the problem returns.
Also, can you post a crash report? You can find them in Console, look in the CrashReporter section under ~/Library/Logs--just copy and paste it here.

  • Address book, issues with adding birthday dates

Anyone having trouble when adding a birthdate to a contact in address book. When adding or importing, the date will show ex.. february 27th 201002. its adding the the month at the end of the year. Tried editing, unable to choose a specific month, can only change the day and year. Even when editing, the month part is not changing, its listed and stays at 00/ . using the delete button is deleting 4 characters, not 2, for the month section, if anyone can help, i would greatly appreciate it.

    Hi,
Open the *System Preferences* > International > Formats tab and change the Region from Custom to your local one.

  • Address Book / iCloud Deletes Imported Contacts Shortly after Import

I ran into a incredbily frustrating problem recently whereby attempting to restore a backup of my Address Book resulted all my contacts being deleted once I reconnected my computer to the internet and my Address Book began syncing with iCloud. I wasn't able to find a solution here but I was able to eventually find one online. I thought it was worth sharing.
Upon exporting a backup of your Address Book you have the choice of slecting to export the Backup as a "Address Book Archive" or as "vCard". If you select "Address Book Archive" and are syncing with iCloud when you attempt to reimport your backup, after about 15 to 30 seconds, iCloud will delete all of the Contacts you've just imported.
Exporting a "Address Book Archive" creates a ".abbu" backup file whereas exporting as a "vCard" exports a ".vcf" backup file. Apparently iCloud doesn't like ".abbu" backup files, but if you didn't know that and you're trying to import your backup contact file you're pretty much screwed!
To get around this problem do the following:
    1) Disconnect your computer from the internet
    2) Import the "Address Book Archive" ".abbu" backup file into your Address Book
    3) Select "All Contacts"
    4) Select, File > Export > Export vCard...
    5) Save the file to your Desktop
    6) Reconnect your computer to the Internet
    7) Select "Import"
    8) Select the ".vcf" file that you just saved to your Desktop.
Importing your backup as a ".vcf" file will prevent iCloud from deleting all of your contacts upon syncing.
... at least it did for me ( :

I had the same problem on both my iPad & iPhone. I adding a contact on my iPad and now everything seems to sync properly. Hmmm, interesting.....  THANKS FOR THE SUGGESTION.

  • HT1351 My fifth generation nano will no longer sync my address book from my Mac. It gives me an error message that "You have no contacts" and asks me if I want to create some.  My address book is full of contacts. Sync works for everything else.

My 5th generation nano will no longer Sync my address book from my Mac.  It gives me a message that I have no "Contacts", and asks if I want to create some.  My address book is full of contacts, but for some reason it thinks it is empty.  All the other sync operations work fine including iCal.  My Mac is running OS X 10.7.4.

It sounds like all of your contacts on your Mac running Lion are actually stored up in iCloud.
Several users running Mac OS X Lion and now ML (and iCloud) have no longer been able to "sync" contacts over to their older iPods models.
A work around is to export all of your contacts out of Address Book as vCards and them copy these vCards into your iPod's Contacts folder.  You'll need to have the Enable Disk Use option ticked from under the iPod's Summary tab in order to browse out to the iPod's Contacts folder via the Finder.
Using your iPod as a storage drive
That's the only "solution" I have been able to use to get contacts to sync/appear on my 5G iPod Video.

  • I use an i-pad and my primary account email is aol.  Is there a way to import my aol address book onto my ipad "contacts?"

I am using an ipad and the primary account email is aol.  Is there a way to import my aol address book onto my ipad "contacts" app?

Oops, I found the answer to my question. Great knowledge base! I had originally imported via the automatic popup dialog box that appeared when I installed TB, and didn't absorb at the time that there would be a way to do an import later, after TB install, too, and even for specific parts of OE (address book vs. mail messages, etc.).
I pasted the link to the "Migrate to Thunderbird" page that includes how to migrate just an Address Book from OE, but the following is all that pastes in: 9723729938
I have typed out the link here:

  • Address book stuck and all contacts gone

when i open up address book none of my contacts appear and switching from directories to all contacts just resizes the empty window back and forth. when i try to resize the window using the handle on the lower right corner it keeps stretching out horizontally till it runs off the screen. I checked for the Helvetica font in system/library/fonts and it is there. it is also activated in font book. tried dumping com.apple.AddressBook.plist from my user/library/preferences, and tried various recommendations i found on these forums for renaming and replacing files in user/library/application support/address book. also tried dumping the address book from applications and reinstalling using pacifist.
    nothing has worked.
    in console i get either:
Address Book[614] * -[NSCFArray objectAtIndex:]: index (2) beyond bounds (2)
    or
Address Book[614] * -[NSCFArray objectAtIndex:]: index (0) beyond bounds (0)
i was considering reinstallling the 10.3.9 combo update. anyone have any other suggestions?

  • HT1338 ADDRESS Book - why is a contact i added to my macbookpro not appearing in my iPhone 4s and iPad 1 via iCloud

why is an address i added to my macbookpro not appearing in my iphone and ipad?

Did you add it to iCloud contacts or Local contacts. Check and see what lists you have in Addresses Book. Is it showing On My Mac contacts and iCloud? When you select all contacts, does it show duplicates?

  • In Address Book, cannot assign a contact to a list.

I am unable to assign a new contact to a list in the Address Book. I've entered the contact's info but when I highlight that contact's name, press the Ctrl key and attempt to copy it to a list, nothing happens. There is a plus symbol on the cursor as there is supposed to be when copying but the contact will not copy to a list. I have done this same procedure a hundred times with never a problem until now.

If you have added the contact to an address bookand now you want that contact to appear in that address book's Mailing List:
    * Open 'Address Book'
    * select the address book with the contact
    * locate the contact, left click and hold down to grab
    * drag contact to the left and hover over the Mailing List
    * release to drop into Mailing List.

  • How do i get my address book to update iCloud contacts?

i had some groups set up on my Mac Pro address book and they where syced with Icloud and my Iphone.  just a few days ago i noticed that the contacts from A to J in each group are missing.  I corrected this on the Macbook Pro but it did not change on Icloud  or my I phone.
how do i get my changes in my address book to update on Icloud?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
First check that all your settings are correct, that contact syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the contacts you are adding are added to your 'iCloud' group and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud group (you can do this by checking in groups), non iCloud contacts will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your contacts are in the iCloud group, you might try unchecking contact syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling contact syncing.

  • How can I get Address Book Server to share contacts between users?

I want to have a Shared Address Book for the users on my installation of OS X Lion Server. Users will keep their own contacts individually but there are certain lists and contacts who need to be shared between users and I can't find any way of getting Lion Server to do this. I know it was a problem in Snow Leopard Server but I hoped it had been fixed.
    Any suggestions?

Create a new user on the Server called 'ouraddressbook' or whatever. Exit the Server. Into Address Book on your Admin/Client machine create a new Account. Account type is CardDAV, Username and Password the same as the User you created on the Server… 'ouraddressbook' or whatever, and then enter your Server's address as text or numbers. Click creat and the rest is straight forward. Now give the set up details of that new Account to the others who want to share your 'ouraddressbook' with you.The Clients must have, I think, Mac OS 10.6  or upwards to have an Address Book that with co-operate.
You will see a new group in Address Book.
If you don't already know, do not add accounts to Address Book or iCal on the Server. Everything is Admin and Client Side. In the beginning I was also adding accounts to iCal and Address on the Server. It works fine but it is just one extra thing that could become corrupted. Let the Server 'serve' the Users you create on it.

  • Merging Tiger Address book contents with ML Contacts

    Hi,
Since late December I've been the proud owner of a (gorgeous new) 27" iMac. This has replaced my old G5 workhorse which is running Tiger. The two are running side-by-side until I get everything migrated and converted.
For the past couple of months I've been adding new contacts, as they come in, to 'Contacts' on the iMac. However I have to bring over all my old contacts from Address Book on Tiger.
With hindsight I guess I shouldn't have done it this way but attempeted to bring them all over on day one. But I'm here now and I have lots and lots on Address book in Tiger and some in Contacts on Mountain Lion. I need both sets.
Any help as to how I can merge the two onto Contacts on the iMac will be much appreciated.
(If it makes any difference I don't use mail.app by the way but my Contacts are synced with my iPad).
    Bob.

On the Tiger machine, export the contacts as vCards. If you have notes, make sure to select the option to save the notes on export--I don't know if Tiger Address Book had those options. It should produce one vCard with all contacts in it, but it may make one for every card. I can't remember what Tiger will do.
Back up Contacts on the new Mac using File>Export>Contacts Archive.
Move them over to the new Mac and double-click the vCard to import them into Contacts. It should not ask you to replace them, but if it does, cancel the import.
