Address book email address incorrect in mail.app

so, in address book i click on the email address of the contact and select "send email" it opens Mail, and auto-completes to the wrong email address.  i've cleared the previous recipients and have also restarted my machine and deleted the contact and started over.  also, when i enter the email address manually, it does not show up as an address book contact (as in, it doesn't create a blue "box" around the name)...  this is the only contact affected by this.
anyone else experiencing this?  any help?  thanks!

You’re vaguely talking about timestamps here, without specifying whether they are “sent” or “received”.
The Date header is set by the sender’s mail client and corresponds to the Date Sent column, not to the Date Received column.
The date that Mail shows in the Date Received column is the date that appears in the latest (topmost) Received header (which you can see doing View > Message > Long Headers), and is set by your incoming mail server.
Obviously, the timestamp set by the sender’s mail client doesn’t have to be the same as the timestamp set by your incoming mail server when it received the message, amongst other reasons because both the sender’s computer and your incoming mail server may be configured incorrectly...

You don't need iDVD unless you are going to make DVDs. If you are just trying to share files, iDVD won't help you at all.
What you want to do is in iMovie, choose File/Share/File, and export that way. It creates an .mp4 file that should be readable on Macs or Windows.
You could also File/Share/YouTube if you don't mind posting them to YouTube, because of course YouTube videos are watchable by any Mac or Windows computer made in the last 10 years.

  • Some HTML emails get corrupted in Mail.app

I get a lot of HTML emails and just occasionally Mail.app seems to mangle the headers and think the mail is plain text, which means the attachments are useless. I then have to resort to Thunderbird to read the email.
The corrupted emails usually start as follows:
    --Boundary-00=_T7P340MWKGMMYJ0CCJD0
    Content-Type: Multipart/Alternative; boundary="Boundary-00=_Z7P340MWKGMMYJ0CCJD0"
    --Boundary-00=_Z7P340MWKGMMYJ0CCJD0
    Content-Type: text/plain; charset="utf-8"
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
Anyone any ideas what is going wrong or how I might stop this from happening?
    John

    Hi Shang_Li,
Unless you pay for the Hotmail premium account, the default mail access for Hotmail is POP3. By default when you "pop" a message off the mail server it removes that message from the server. That's why the messages are missing from the web interface. When you configure POP you have the option to leave a copy on the server for a specific period of time.
Here's a good URL that explains the process - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3228
If you don't want mail to be removed off the server you can just uncheck the box that's mentioned in the above article. Or if you do want to have messages removed you can specify how long they're kept on the server (viewable on the web) after you access them in Mail.

  • When we attach photos to an email in the Apple Mail app, the photos appear tiny on gmail accounts.

When we attach photos to an email in the Apple Mail app, the photos appear tiny on gmail accounts. They are unable to download the file as the size sent. We have tested this in multiple gmail accounts and we have tried sending as different sizes and actual size with no difference. Other photos attached in other ways come through fine. This seems to be a a result of the recent iphotos to photos app update.
Please advise on if this is a bug with how mail is ending the photos or how gmail is receiving them.

Try using Mail as the email client for iPhoto and see if that will fix the problem:

Are there any setting or some way to show notifications for new email without open Apple Mail app ?
You know , I am an OCD . I alway's close my Mail app and miss many important new emails .

What I do is open the Mail.app, then click the red traffic light (upper left corner of the main Mail.app window) to close that window. The app itself will remain running and you will get updates - this helps keep the desktop tidy while while the mail app remains running. When an update is received, simply click the either the mail icon in your dock or go to the Mail.app menu and click Window > Message Viewer.

  • Email sent from outside Mail app sits in outbox?

Whenever I try to send an email from outside the Mail app it just sits in my Outbox until I go in and re-send what I thought I'd already sent. Very annoying, any way to fix this? I sync email with Google Sync and Yahoo.

They are in your Library folder, but it is now hidden in Lion. You can unhide it by either:
hold Option key and to to Go Menu in Finder - Library will be there. Once open you can drag its' icon into the Sidebar if you want.
Or, you can use this terminal command:
    chflags nohidden ~/Library
Once in the Library, there is the Mail folder. Please note that they are now in a folder named "V2" and the format is not compatible with Snow Leopard. You can try putting your folders there, but I do not know if that will work, especially since they are from 10.5.

  • Address Panel in Mail.app empty but Address Book app full

I recently updated to Mountain Lion. I have a mid-2011 iMac i7. I can't honestly say that it stopped working with the advent of Mountain Lion but it is the most recent change.
When I type a name in the Mail.app new email "To" field it will not read my contacts. The processing lined circle spins over on the right but never does anything. I looked in my contacts app and everything is fine. If I go into the mail.app and go to window->address panel it is empty. I am not using iCloud for contacts on any of my devices.
I tried searching a contact name from spotlight and it shows up under contacts... but hey, like i said, all my contacts are available in the contacts app.

Thunderbird does not have this problem, nor does Postbox. Both are now listed under security settings as having address book access. Mail.app is not listed as having access and there's not an option to add it.

  • Auto-complete for the email addresses in the mail app is not working

Hi, could somebody kindly help, please?
I have just got a new iphone 5s after my old 5 got broken. When I got the new 5s one I had to restore everything from the back-up copy I had on my ipad or in my icloud, whatever.
The problem is that in the standard mail app which you have at the bottom of the screen auto-complete for the email addresses is not working on this new iphone. However, it still works on the ipad.
Can I turn it on somewhere or is it a bug? I remember When my old iohone was new as well as the ipad and ipod, I did not have to turn on anything. The recent email addresses list (appears when one starts to type an address in the address bar when writing a new email message) appeared automatically. And on this phone it doesn't appear at all. It doesn't suggest me any recent or whichever email addresses and I am really lazy to type an address each time.
    Could this be solved?
Many thanks in advance for the eventual help.
    Olia

I am also getting same problem...................anybody please help.

  • I'm having trouble setting up my Google Apps for Education email address in the mail app

I have tried several times and different ways to add my .edu email account to the iOs system through the mail app on both my mac and my iphone. It is run through Google apps for education, so it uses gmail as a platform but is addressed as my school's title. On a few occasions it wouldn't accept it to add, on others it connected but wouldn't access the email account once it was added.

The approaches available may differ depending upon which operating system you have.  I am running OS 10.8.4 and on my computer, the following works:
Go to System Preferences and select Mail, Contacts, & Calendars.
From the right, choose Gmail; this should open an dialogue box, where you should enter:
Your name (as you wish it to appear)
Email address (should include the @whatever.edu, where whatever is the appropriate university extension--it should be .edu, not gmail.com)
    The password on the account.
Choose the applications you want to sync with your computer and click Add Account. You will probably get an error about Mail Server Discovery, but click Continue anyway.
Launch your Mail application and it should have you setup your account. Choose/enter the following:
    Account type: IMAP
Title Description: (put whatever you want the account titled, it's up to you)
Incoming Mail Server: type in imap.gmail.com
User Name: put your full email username, including the @whatever.edu
Password: put your email password again
Configure the outgoing mail server with:
Description: whatever you want it called
Outgoing Mail server: type in smtp.gmail.com
    Check the option Use Authentication
Username: type your full username, including the @whatever.edu
Enter your password and click Continue and then Create.
    That should be it.

  • Slow address completion in Mail.app

    Hello all,
Since the middle of last week I suddenly experienced
a extreme slow down of Mail.app address completion,
it take about a minute to type/complete an address even
whenever the completion option is checked in the preferences.
Then Mail.app use nearly all system disk ressources: 'ls' in a terminal
takes forever to complete, safari stops responding, etc... my Mac
is unusable. I got into situation where i couldn't force-quit
or ps/kill -9 any process,... reminiscent of a PC nightmare.
In addition some mail messages are painfully slow to display,
the problem seems to occur on some specific messages and does
not go away when completion is disabled.
This happens it seems, but I am not 100% sure, after I recieved
mails with with strange accentuated charaters and ';' in some
    CC addresses.
I go the zombie AddressBookSync problem described

and the system is still somewhat slugish. I got a 4GB 2.4Ghz

Now there is something strange. I tryed to remove putative

When I attempt to open Mail.app Preferences, the app freezes
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

  • Possible bug with HTML emails and attachments from Mail.app

I'm trying to send an attachment with an HTML email from Mail.app and getting unexpected results. I've been messing around with the order that things get added to the new e-mail and it seems that I can have either an attachment or I can have HTML email, not both.
    The code... (of course simplified)
    tell application "Mail"
    set new_message to make new outgoing message with properties {subject:"A subject", sender:"[email protected]"}
    tell new_message
    set visible to true
    make new to recipient at end of to recipients with properties {address:"[email protected]"}
tell content to make new attachment with properties {file name:alias "Path to your file as string"} at after the last paragraph
set html content to "<head><body>Some HTML here...</body></head>"
    end tell
    send new_message
    end tell

    etresoft wrote:

Well, I wonder what I have been generating for over three years now. RTF ? Because it sure looks like HTML. I must agree that HTML is not documented or even mentionned in the Mail AS dictionnary, but it does work, though you must specify visible to false so that it does. Here's my sub:
    tell application "Mail"
set DMF to default message format
set default message format to plain text
    set newMessage to make new outgoing message with properties {subject:theSubject}
    tell newMessage
    set visible to false
    set sender to theSender
    make new to recipient at end of to recipients with properties {name:Photographer, address:theAddress}
set html content to "<html><head><title>" & theSubject & "</title></head><body>" & "This is an automated response." & theSource & "Find your personnal planning on the web: " & thelink & "
    </body></html>"
    end tell
    send newMessage
set default message format to DMF
    end tell

  • Automatically create iCal entry with an email alarm from a Mail.app email?

    Hi..
    Hope you can help?
I want to set up iCal/Mail.app so that it automatically creates a new iCal entry in a specific calendar when an email is received that contains a date in the body of the message...
Is there a way of doing this with Automator?
This reason I am asking is that I am trying to put a link on my online store where people can click for a gift reminder email that will be sent to them on a date they specify in the body of their email.
The link could pop-up a new email window pre-filled with Subject: 'Gift Reminder' and addressed to '[email protected]' They would be instructed to enter a single date in the text area and press Send...
Then, when Mail.app receives the email, it would move it to a Folder called 'Gift Reminders' and automatically set up a new iCal entry that has an alarm to email the sender on that date with an email containing the Subject 'The Gift Reminder you Requested' etc and some different text in the body... It would be great if this could be set up to repeat annually also as the gift reminder is primarily for birthday gifts...
Id there an Automator script / plug-in or way of making this happen??
Any help greatly appreciated, though my knowledge of scripts / Automator etc is quite limited I am willing to try out any suggestions!
    Thanks,
    Jon.

Tried a restart which showed 2183 emails unable to move which is kind of bonkers and had to quit Mail> restart and moving emails from search now appears to be working. Apple owes me about 500 hours of my life so far with Mavericks!
