Address Book entries on the Computer

Help - I want to add all of my contacts on the computer and I do not know how and can not find that info in the book.
Thanks,
GW

You'll need to configure your desktop software with the database you're using. Is it Outlook?

  • Copying a complete Address Book entry into the body of an email?

Is there a neat way (other than Copy/Paste one chunk at a time!!) to get a complete Address Book entry complete into the body of an email in plain text (NOT as a V-Card), if I want to send to someone who doesn't use an Address Book on their computer ?

The only way to do what you are asking about is to create an html email. This is possible and assuming you are using Leopard, you can use Mail to do this. Start a new email and select the Stationary button that by default is on the right corner of the new email message window.
Pages cannot be used to create html code and the only way to use Pages to create your newsletter would be to create a PDF and attach it. The other possible option would be to send your email with a link to a webpage. You could experiment with using the Share to iWeb function and see if this could work for you. (Since I swore off - not to mention at - iWeb some time ago I don't know how well this would work.)

  • Batch edit Address Book entries

Does anyone know of a way to change a number of address book entries at the same time?
Say, for example, You move offices. Now you need to change the work address for 150 people... how would you go about doing that?

    Applescript.
Here for example is one that changes a load of email addresses. You would use something similar for changing postal addresses.

  • Editing multiple address book entries

I'm trying to update the "Company" field with the same value on dozens of Address Book entries at the same time. Having no luck. Anyone know how to update these all at once?

I am attempting to do the exact same thing - did you ever find a resolution to this problem?

  • Mac OS X v10.7 Lion How to Tell Which Groups an Address Book Entry Is In?

Under Snow Leopard's address book, I could press the Option key and it would highlight which groups the selected address book entry was in. How do I do that with Lion's address book?

    Hey Mr. Picasso,
You need to be in "Groups" View in Address Book. Hit Command-3 to get there.
Then click (highlight) an address book entry on the right hand page.
Next, hit the Option key. The groups that the entry belongs to will highlight in blue on the left hand page.
BTW, to me the "highlight in blue text" is badly chosen by Apple, 'cause it is hardly discernable from the other "black on white" texts. No way to change it, AFAIK. The old "yellow highlight" worked much better, IMHO.

If you have a Mac, it's pretty easy. But you don't (should I make a pitch for you to get a MacBook Pro in the future)?
This should help you out to sync it back to several non-Apple software:

  • Multiple Address Book Entries that all send to the same GW account ?

Our CIO wants a few address book entries that if chosen, will all send to
    the same account.
Seems easy enough but I haven't found a way, without creating a new account
that has some Forward or Delegate rule.
Is there a nicer way to do it without having another real GW account created
    and using Rules?
I was kind of hoping to just create an External User that simply points to
the one account but it complains that that e-mail address already exists.
    Thanks

Why not using nick names ? The only downside is gw7 and earlier
nicknames don't show up in the address book. GW8 does show the
    nicknames in the address book.

  • Multiplication of address book entries

I have 2611 address book entries. I have this pristine file backed up, so I can go back to it. However, every time i restore my address book, it balloons up to over 19,000 entries, and slows down the processor in the meantime. I thought it was being caused by Now Contact still being on my computer, so I uninstalled it, but it still happens. It's not a sync issue, I believe, because I have turned off syncing and it still happens. I've tried putting the original addressbook on (2611 entries) and replacing the MobileMe info with it, and it still balloons up, whether syncing is on or off. This is really crazy. Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening, or how I might fix it? Thank you.

You can export your contacts to CSV (comma separated value) format and pull that into Numbers or Excel, then export it back. Use the first part of this program (it's a converter for GMail) to do the CSV step.

  • Address book entries lost

I noticed on a parallel topic that no one had answered.
I just started a new Macbook. I transfered address book via fire wire.
It tranfered fine. I used it.
I shut down my computer and then re opened it.
    All address book entries disappeared.
Also, the book marks which I had transferred disappeared.
Any one know what is happening?
Mac book   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

From the first computer I made a back up of my address book. My zip drive would not recognize this.
I transfered it to my new computer on a flash drive.
Then I told the new computer to use the back up copy of the address book. It worked.

  • Address Book entries deleted... then reappear!

When I connect my address book to MobileMe, I am finding certain rogue address book entries that I want to change or delete, but they never retain the changes for very long.
I delete or edit, sync to MobileMe righ away, and see the change correctly on both MobileMe, iPhone, and computer. Then, the next day or two, it randomly shows up again with the old data.
I even tried resetting the sync data with the address book, to no avail.
    Any suggestions?

I would try to connect to mobile me on your "master" device. The one that is most correct. Reset all mobile me services, and have your computer replace the contents on mobile me. Then I would disable and re-enable each of the other devices. That way it completely clears out mobile me, and then sets up each device again.

  • Can't find address book entries in Entourage after migrating from G4 Tiger

I was able (with some help from these discussion groups) to successfully migrate from G4 Tiger OS to a MacBook Pro. This is my husband's computer and he really needs the address book entries. Interestingly, some did appear, but not all.
I'm not sure where they reside in the files.
    Please advise.
    Thanks

Please post questions regarding Entourage on Microsoft's own forum for their Mac products, as this forum is for troubleshooting Mac OS X and Apple discussions only provide support for Apple products.

  • Time Machine will not restore Address Book entry

I noticed that one Address Book entry has become 'corrupted' possibly when synched with my mobile phone. The name had become truncated and I had lost my notes and address details, retaining just the telephone numbers. When I access Time Machine I can see the original file. When I click restore it 'drags' this file to the current desktop, and the file appears for half a second within the address book and then disappears. When I do restore all it asks me whether I want to import all records and allows me to deal with duplicates, but still nothing is restored. What is going on?

I think you may be missing step:
Open a window for the item you want to restore.
For example, if you accidentally deleted a file from your Documents folder, open the Documents folder. If you want to recover an email message, open your inbox in Mail.
If you’re missing an item from the desktop, you don’t need to open a window.
Click the Time Machine icon in the Dock.
If Time Machine isn’t in the Dock, look for it in the Applications folder.
Use the arrows or the timeline along the right side of your screen to browse through all the backups Time Machine has created.
If you need more information about an item, double-click to preview it.
The windows behave just like Finder windows, so you can open folders, click items in the sidebar, and use the search field in the upper-right corner of the window.
When you find the item you want to restore, select it and then click Restore.
You can restore individual items, multiple items, folders, or your entire hard disk.
If an item you restore has the same name as another item on your computer, you’re asked if you want to keep the current item, the restored item, or both.

  • How do i remove my photo from my Address Book entry?

two questions: first, how do i remove my photo from my entry in Address Book? i should be able to click "Edit", select my photo and hit the Delete key and be done, but no - hitting the Delete key does nothing except make the photo blink.
second, i just posted a comment on a web page that i've never been to before, on a site that i've never been to before, and my photo appeared on the web page next to my comment. very creepy. anybody know why this is and how i make it stop? does it have something to do with my Address Book entry?
update: i've consulted Address Book's help and it tells me to select the card then go Card -> Clear custom image, but when i do, that menu item is grayed out.
further update: i've worked around the problem by taking a screen shot of a blank white area of a webpage and making that my photo...but i shouldn't have to do that and would still like to know how one actually deletes one's photo from Address Book. Address Book's help indicates that i'll find such photos in Library/Images/People, but there's no such directory in any of my Library folders. Address Book's help is not being very helpful today.
    tia...

there is actually no way to completely delete an image for you address book entry. you can only change it to something else as you did.
as for the image on that website, most likely it pulled your photo from your webpage on some site like My Space, Facebook etc. do you have a page like that? some sites will tap directly into your webpage and pull your pic from it.

  • How can I delete ALL of my Address Book entries and start fresh?

Yes. I know that sounds extreme, but……
I use Outlook on a PC at my office, and I have an sbcglobal/Yahoo mail account. I look upon my office Outlook as my ultimate contacts list (over 1,100 entries) and my calendar.
I use the sbc supplied free Intellisync software to sync all of my calendar and contacts from my office PC into sbc/Yahoo. That way I actually get e-mail reminders of appointments, etc. in addition to my Outlook notifications. It is actually pretty nifty.
I have also successfully signed-on to my Yahoo account at home on my MAC and exported all of my contacts from Yahoo (which had been populated by the PC Outlook listings via Intellisync) onto my desktop and then imported them into Address Book. But I did that some time ago and now my Outlook listings have been updated rather substantially. I would like to able to do a complete re-install of the new and improved contacts from the Yahoo repository.
Again - I certainly do not want to delete the Address Book app itself – I just want to start with a clean slate so there are no conflicts or duplicate entries (which in fact is seemingly a bug in the Yahoo/Intellisync. Is there a way to completely wipe clean all of my Address Book entries?
    Thanks

    Hello Allan -
Your help on a previous post was great re: my wanting to know how to delete the Address Book contents so I can re-import an updated list form my office Outlook, via my yahho/sbcglobal import.
Well - here is an interesting quandary:
I have successfully exported my yahoo address book/contacts as a .vcf file Yet - once I have expunged the prior Address Book data and want to now import the NEW Yahoo data to rebuild the database it only takes (enters) the phone numbers and does NOT import ANY of the address information. I am positive I did this once since our original exchange and everything transferred just fine, but now….?!
What I cannot determine is where the fault may be: does the export NOT include the addresses (in which case I am doing something fundamentally stupid wit the export) or the vcf cards are complete, but Address Book is not “seeing” anything other than the phone #s and e-mail addresses.
    Any thoughts?
    Dazed and confused
