Address Book Erased By Itself

When I click on my address book all my numbers are gone.  But when someone calls me their name and number still come up.  So I went into the memory and it says I have 81 numbers stored in the phone.  Also when I use my speed dial the names and numbers of the people still work.  I have 1733349 bytes of memory free still.  If someone can help before I wipe my phone out, please reply.  Thanx

  • Address Book erased

I erased my address book, by mistake, and now I can not sync my iphone thru Entourage as it requires Address Book to be synced also. I have tried to re-install from my discs Tiger, however after all the updates I will have to erease everything to allow the re-install. How can I just install Address Book?

    Apple Discussions!
Since the Address Book is a separate app, you should be able to +custom install+ from your System Install Tiger DVD. You do not need to boot from same (hold down the "c" key). Or use Pacifist to help you custom install.

  • Address Book erased.  How can I restore?

I just bought a new iPhone (my first) and synced it to my computer for the first time. My Address Book on my Mac was erased. When I was at AT&T store, the contact information from my old cell phone was transferred to my contact list on my new iPhone. That contact list was transferred to the Address book on my Power Mac but all of the existing contacts were replaced by the contact list on my iPhone. (GULP!) I believe that I located a file in the Address Book directory named: AddressBook.data.previous. I am hoping that I can restore my previous address book to what it was before I synced my iPhone. I also have back up files on an exterior hard drive. How can I restore the old address book, and then, how do I merge it with the contact list that now resides on my new iPhone? I am praying somebody can help me to restore!

    Hi BDAqua--
Thank you so much for replying. After writing my message I made several horrible discoveries. Not only had my Address Book been wiped clean, but my iCal was also wiped clean. In addition my Firefox wasn't loading properly so I closed and reopened it and found that it was like opening Firefox for the first time. My personal toolbar and all my bookmarks are gone. Also, I have an email account that utilizes Thunderbird. The email account is gone. I was prompted to create a new account from scratch. Additionally, all my Desktop files are gone, the Dock was missing all of the program icons that I had put there, and configurations that I had set up such as the right mouse click button are all gone!
There was one piece of information that I left out of my description in my first post, and this may be important. When I connected my iPhone to sync for the first time, I was prompted in iTunes if I wanted to name my iphone "Apple User's (or Appleuser's) iPhone". Rather than just put a different name in that field, I blundered by renaming the username in the Finder Sidebar. It was from that point on that I started having the problems. When I renamed it back to "Appleuser" later on, none of the missing items returned.
So, I don't know if renaming the user in the Finder Sidebar, or syncing my iPhone for the first time caused this problem. I think (hope) somehow that I just inadvertently effected the user information. I think it still must be on my computer, but I don't know how to get it back again. I want to mention again that I do have a backup external hard drive, so chances are that I have the files intact there, if not on my internal Mac HD.
Are there any ideas how I can restore my settings so that I can get these lost items back again?

  • Address Book opens by itself

Recently I've noticed Address Book popping up onscreen and then closing almost immediately. What could be the reason?

The reason could be a piece of software, such as a Dashboard widget or an AppleScript, that requires Address Book to be running for whatever it does.

  • Merging dupe records in Address Book erases everything

I selected the LOOK FOR DUPLICATE ENTRIES and MERGE DUPLICATE ENTRIES drop down menu commands in Address Book, and after merging, the process bar froze. Upon rebooting, i discovered all my address book records had been deleted . How may I retrieve them? And is this a bug in Address Book, or am i just unlucky?

Mac Book Pro 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Quit AddressBook.
Look if you can locate one of these files:
    youruserhome/library/application support/addressbook/
    addressbook.data
    addressbook.data.backup
    addressbook.data.previous
Look at the sizes of these folders, duplicate them to the desktop as a precaution.
remove addressbook.data and put it in the trash
    rename addressbook.data.previous to addressbook.data
Now open AB again and see if this has worked.
If it did, start using the build-in feature to make a backup (file menu)

  • HT1199 address book deleted by itself

While I was updating my address book adding new contact information, the next thing I know all my contacts are gone except for
    4.
It seems like they were deleted by a virus because when I was updating,  the field would all of a sudden go blank,  I kept re-entering the update not realizing what appeared to be going on was my contact information was being deleted.

Closing this out - when I closed contacts and re-opened,  the contacts were back...so NTF - but weird

  • Address Book wipes out itself in a weekly basis

I have seen several posts about people losing AB content. In my cases I have to restore my contacts from backup every week. I cannot describe a pattern yet, but if anybody has any details what to look for it would be really helpful.

I realize it's a good idea to scroll down before adding new Posts!!
To the extent it will help spotlight this problem, I just had this happen to me yesterday and lost 2400 entries. I have an older back up on my treo so not disastrous, yet.
If you figure this out, would you Post a solution whether it was Call Tech Support or another source of assistance. I'll be sure to do the same.
I'm waiting to investigage before I resync as I'm sure that will overwrite what's on my computer, and the data had to go somewhere.

  • How do i erase a corrupt contact list from iCloud,iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro and restore Address Book backup to all devices and cloud?

how do i erase a corrupt contact list from iCloud,iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro and restore Address Book backup to all devices and cloud?
I saved a corrected, most up to date version of my master Address Book Contacts as a back-up on my Mac Book Pro.
then in an effort to "simplify my life"  i attempted to sync my I phone contacts - ( pre clean-up version) with my clean list on Mac Book Pro, New I pad and newly available icloud. DUH!! Using iTunes to do the sync caused the clean MacBOOK Pro list to be commingled with the dirty iphone contacts. amd now the whole mess is in the cloud.
I need to clear out the contaminated lists from all iplaces, and startover with Back-up on my macbook pro. BUT HOW???
    Help
    Karen

I had exported an address book backup: abbu
so since i wrote, i have found my way into the cloud: selected all entries - deleted them all from the cloud.
This wiped out contacts on my iphone and i pad, and MBP, as well as on the cloud.  I then imported the abbu back into my now empty address book.
To repopulate the crowd, i selected all in my address book and created a single card vCard for export to my desktop.  I then dragged that vcard into my empty cloud.  Now my cloud has the same clean contacts as my MBP addressbook.  The cloud then pushed the clean contacts into my empty ipad and iphone contacts.
I had to go back to Address Book>preferences>Accounts and Add an I cloud account - but if you accidentally create a second i cloud account - all of a sudden your address book will duplicate itself.  I quickly reversed it by deleting one of the icloud accounts in my Address Book>preferences>Accounts.
I created a new entry on my MBP and it is now on all devices and in cloud
I also created a new entry on my iPhone and it is now in the address book on my MBP.
    I feel empowered!!

  • Can't search for certain characters in Address Book

    Hello all,
Since there is no search and replace in Address Book, I have this problem: I long ago entered some 3 digit area codes with abbreviated versions such as "9/" or "8/", etc. I now wish to change the abbreviated versions to the actual three digit area codes, and there are quite a lot of them. But when I search for "9/", for instance, the search returns every entry of "9", but no example of anything containing "/". I guess this is a limitation (albeit a strange one) of Address Book or OSX itself.
Does anyone have a clue how I can make the necessary changes, or if there is a search & replace script or application available?
    Thanks

From the iPod Touch (4.1) Users Guide:
You can search first, last, and company names in your contacts on iPod touch.
Thus, there are only three searchable fields and phone # is not one of them.

  • Filtering Address Book Contacts

Moved all my contacts from Now Up-To-Date for the iPhone and now it is time to print and send Christmas Cards.
    Address Book is AWFUL
You cannot sort by state, you cannot filter and select by family/last name and much more.
I cannot believe that Address Book does not allow us to search and filter by state, last name.
Also there is no way to search/sort by those that we want to send a Christmas Card to.
Now Up-To-Date was perfect doing this in the past.

    Mike Richards1 wrote:
I need to sort by date modified. Can't. I can make a smart folder to show me contacts after a certain date, but no sorting. How about a big list view? Not there either. I could go on.
Looks like Address Book is for the home users.
Although I agree that Address Book should handle these things itself, here is a possible workaround.
FileMaker Bento 2 ($50 for a single license) provides a two-way synchronization with Address Book, so you can view and edit data in either Address Book or Bento and it immediately shows up in the other. Bento has a table view for which you can control which fields display, filter or sort by specific fields (including Last Name, State, Date Created, Date Modified or custom fields you have added), and much more. You can even export a flattened version of Address Book data to a text file or spreadsheet, or import it directly into FileMaker Pro 10.
I have found it to be much easier to do mass edits on my Address Book data using the table view within Bento. This was a pleasant surprise, since I bought it for its ability to export Address Book data for use elsewhere (another thing Address Book should handle itself).

  • ADDRESS BOOK has been deleted, erased, wiped out, completely and entirely by itself!

My Blackberry Curve 8330 was on and running normally, then I came to check the phone as I normally do, nothing out of the ordinary... except to find out that my entire address book and blackberry messenger conversations I have had were gone! Now I don't care much about the messenger conversations, I actually still have all my BBM contacts in place and that's working. I even have my photos and memo notes. My apps are still there, but my address book contacts are completely erased! Where did it go? And can I get it back?? My service provider is Sprint.

Push email technology is what made RIM famous. Anyway, that's not the point of your query here, but you asked what is push email.

So you're saying I synced all my contacts to a portal which really does not exist, and therefore all my contats went there (which is not really there in the first place) and removed from my phone?
That was a total guess on my part... I don't know this for sure, just trying to lead you in a direction that might help. Notice I didn't even know if you had Gmail... but you did. So, I'm thinking I might be on a right track.

Can I get my contacts back?
Hope so. Let's look at two things:
About how many contacts did you have on your device?
On your device, go to Options > Status > press the Menu key > Database Sizes. Scroll down to Address Book and do you see the Address Book data, is there any size to the numbers on the right, such as 438/89k
Or, do you only see 0/0k ? List here what you see there.
Now, open your Gmail web portal, and look at the contacts on the left side.
Do you see them all there?

  • ISync erased my phone contacts, then it erased numbers in Address Book

Okay, long complicated story, hopefully made short:
    - after syncing my Motorola Razr phone via bluetooth with iSync, I noticed all my contacts were gone.
    - I tried syncing again, and there was no change
    - I tried removing all the files from ~library/Application Support/iSync and then tried syncing again.
    - Now, all the numbers that were previously stored in my phone, are now erased from address book, as well as erasing all events I had in iCal
    - I did a Time Machine backup last week, so I have a backup of the system when address book and ical were normal
    - I want to restore the numbers I lost both in address book, the events I had in iCal, and also get syncing back to normal.
Any ideas on how to do this would be gratefully appreciated. This is a rat's nest that I don't know how to untangle.

I have  exactly the same problem.
I am using iOS 7 and Zimbra 8 using Active Sync protocol.

  • Address book entries erased - need help

Does anyone know how to recover erased Address book entries? I've found that Contact info inside a card can be easily erased/typed over and there does not appear to be an easy way to "undo" as the Edit/Undo command doesnt seem to work in this application. The downside of using Mobile Me is that my devices are getting wiped out quicker than I can copy down the info and save it.

Thanks for the suggestions VK. Turned out I had some core operating system files that had been corrupted,
how did you find that out exactly?
Genius said I had to re-install.
did you try what I said? i suggest you do that before reinstalling. that's quick and easy and won't hurt anything. if the problem is with your AB database file then reinstalling won't help but what I said will. and since you have time machine you should not reinstall in any case. you should just do a full system restore from TM from before the problem started.
