ADDRESS BOOK FEEDBACK

There is no page on the Apple web site for feedback on Address Book.
I would like to request a feature. I want to share specific groups within my address book, but not the entire address book. Since it doesn't seem possible to have more than one "book", being able to share specific groups would be really helpful. Could someone pass this along to the right team at Apple?

  • Address Book – Feedback which contacts in which groups

Context: I am looking into my Address Book in Lion. Left groups, right contacts
    Action: I select a contact
Idea: Wouldn't it be neat if I would see in which groups this contact resides? Please give me some feedback!

My wife's mac mini suddenly had one 'No Name' card in it, and it was causing problems, after clicking on this card, it showed the 'apple' entry ( the apple company contact details) and every card then showed tha 'apple' entry. Sometimes it would show the contents of whatever card I clicked on next.
I could not delete this card, backing up did nothing. Today I selected all cards and exported them to the home folder. Then deleted the Library/Address Book folder and all contents.
I started up addressbook and imported all the contacts from the exported file, including the 'no name' entry. I deleted the 'no name' card and, so far, everything is fine!
Hope this helps with your problem.

  • Database Manager for Address Book

Help me! I seem to need to reconstruct my Address Book every time I change my PDA. the card formats are never quite the same....
To date, I have been exporting to text files, cleaning the text tile with MS Word, opening the text file in Excel - doing my clean up and reorganization in Excel - saving as a text file, then importing the text file back into Address Book.
Eh - and every time I do this, SOMEthing get screwed up. This time, I lost all the fax numbers!
Question: Is there a database manager that will open the AddressBook.Data file in native format, allow me to make global changes or individual edits and resave the native format - without needing to do all of the exporting and importing and data corruption?
Thanks for any feedback or comment!

  • Is it possible to keep Contact List and Address Book seperate on iPhone?

I just made the switch today- big time – from Motorola to iPhone, and from PC to iMac, plus a Macbook Air as well for travel. Thanks to iphone and Mac forums I have been able to resolve most newbie issues and have exported my data, files and contacts without problem.
However there is one issue I have not been able to resolve or clarify:
    - My old phone contact list has now been transferred my new iPhone, consisting of about 100 phone numbers which I use regularly.
    - Address Book in my new iMac contains about 800 contacts including phone numbers, clients, etc, as well as personal bank account numbers, and other confidential data in the “Notes” field, which I need to refer to only occasionally.
But I understand that if I sync my iPhone with my Mac, it will merge my Address Book contacts on Mac, with the phone contacts on my iPhone Contact list, into one list. Is this true? Is it not possible to maintain 2 separate Apps on my iPhone, i.e
    1. The iPhone Contact list for frequently used telephone contacts, and
    2. The Mac Address Book with more detailed notes and account numbers, which I only need to refer to occasionally?
    3. If this is possible, can I configure it so that a password is required each time the Address Book on iPhone is accessed? (I realise I can configure the iphone to require a pin when turned on), but I would like a password to access the Address App because of the confidential data. Previously I had all this data contained on a Palm Zire 72 handheld and its PC Desktop counterpart, where a password was required to access.
From what I’ve read on the forums, it will be very cumbersome to have a phone contact list with 1000 names on it, so I want to keep phone contacts simple with phone numbers only. (I realise I can set up Group folders in Address Book, but this is not what I need). I'm also concerned about having confidential information on my iPhone which can be accessed without a password for that particular application. I intend to get MobileMe but that also does not address the issue of keeping Telephone Contacts seperate from Address Book on iPhone.
Any help would be much appreciated!

    Speculating:
if, as already suggested, you use the Groups function to sync only the 100 contact list numbers, then how to get the expanded Address Book?
I've not used it myself, but Bento might be worth looking into--Bento on the Mac pulls your Address Book data (I'm pretty sure) and syncs to Bento iPhone.
I don't recall hearing about any alternate phone books, but since pretty much any program on the Mac can hook into the Address Book, you might look at the more powerful note organizers to see if any of them pull that data?
You might have a problem getting notes added on the phone back into Address Book on the Mac, though.
I actually right now keep my main address book in MS Entourage (similar to Outlook), and only use the Mac Address Book to sync to the iPhone. I could sync Entourage to Address Book, but I don't--haven't sorted out the data yet, and I don't really need all the same numbers in both places.
If that sounds possible, you might look at Mark/Space and Missing Sync for iPhone---something like keeping all 800 contacts in Entourage, and syncing them all, but moving the confidential portion of each contact into Entourage Notes and syncing those via Missing Sync, perhaps might work. (I think you can link a contact to a note in Entourage)
An interesting problem. You might also send feedback to Apple:
    http://apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
as this is really not a usage scenario they've planned for. They probably don't care, though--doesn't seem all that common.

  • Address Book Sharing

Is it at all possible to share parts of my address book but not the hole darn thing? Not sure if this really needs to be in feedback or if I am missing something.
My address book covers everything from family, several groups of friends, financial companies, software companies, health related companies, work venders, co-workers, past job references and several different mail lists participants. As you can see I have many aspects of my life that should not be viewed by all other aspects of my life.
Simply, how can I share the "Family" group of my address book with my family to edit and put their current or updated information?

Unfortunately the Address Book sharing feature for both Tiger and Leopard only works on an all-or-nothing basis.

  • How can I organize groups in Address Book while running iCloud under Lion?

I am frustrated with the new Address Book for many reasons:
It is no longer possible to view groups, list, and cards at the same time, just groups and list or list and cards.  This means it is very cumbersome to organize cards to multiple groups, something that wa relatively easy before.  Why not allow us to see all three at once and conveniently drag and delete?
The individual cards do not list what groups each card belongs to.  Why didn't Apple include a list and a way to change the group when editing cards?  Do any of the Apple programmers actually use their own programs to make them useful and convenient?
While running iCloud addresses are duplicated (one set "On My Mac" and another "iCloud").  While it is possible to view only one set or the other, I found that it is best to backup and then delete the "On My Mac" cards and groups.  Even then it is confusing to navigate and move cards around.
The iCloud synch with my iPod is working well, but I have to synch my older iPhone 3G with a cable. (will not run OS X v 10.7 Lion).
The iCloud address book is not synching properly with Yahoo, but rather the Yahoo address are being pulled over to the "On My Mac" set that had been removed.  Why can't we set controls of pushing or pulling data vs synching, as well as whether whether this is with the iCloud or "On My Mac" addresses?
The new address book format, while cute is too bright, hard to read and wastes a lot of space with white nothingness.  Why can't we have a more attractive, easier to read, and functional address book format, with more ability to customize format for advanced users?
I suppose I may have answered my own question: basically it is possible to manage the groups as long is willing to put up with inefficiency and backs up manually by exporting the address book regularly as a backup (because so much can and does go wrong).  Does anybody have more insight?

  • Birthdays in iCal, Address Book, iPhone.  Why isn't Apple listening?

I have seen this complaint over and over again. I have sent countless feedback emails. Why is it that Apple just doesn't care about these VERY BASIC things? Their attention to detail is amazing, yet they choose to ignore things that scream incompetence....
Why is it that I can sync birthdays from my Address Book in to iCal. (Awesome feature by the way) Yet I cannot set a reminder of any kind. Does Apple just think this isn't important to people? Do they just not care? I run into these types of problems with almost every application they have. There will be those one or two little things in each that begs the questions: What are they thinking? How could they have missed this? Why aren't they listening to people? Another upgrade I paid for, and it's still not fixed?
Are any of you feeling this frustration?

That's great, thanks! Worked like a charm, and all my birthdays now have a reminder. Even tells me their age...
Frustrates me that I have to pay $6, when it should already have this functionality. However, it's otherwise a useless feature, unless I am reminded of the birthdays, so I'll pay the $6. It's more important to me to know when these birthdays occur.

  • My Address Book Wish List

Just sent the following to Apple Feedback. Curious to see if any others share similar hopes -- or if any of my requests are in fact already possible, but I've just been too dense to figure out how to do them:
    (using AB 4.0.4 under OX X 10.4.8)
Nine Improvements Many Address Book Users (including me)
    Would Really Like To See:
    1) Phone dialer function.
Since Macs still have internal modems, why not take advantage of the fact and provide users with the option of having Address Book dial the number you've just used Address Book to look up? There are 3rd party apps that do this, but it's the kind of feature that really should be built right in for full compatibility.
    2) Auto Fill + Auto Capitalization options for each text field.
Users should be able to designate which text fields do or do not use one or both. (Previous editions of Address Book had a hyper-active auto-fill function, while the latest version seems to have abandoned it altogether.)
The auto capitalization should work the same as when you start typing a name into Mac Mail's "To" field, offering a list of possible matches (different cities, for example), beginning with the one most recently used.
The auto capitalization should be a separate user pref which can be turned on or off for any text field.
    3) More display options for Name column
Specifically, it would be nice to be able to have Last Name / First Name for scrolling through the Name column, but still show First Name / Last Name in the individual Card View on the right.
    4) More intelligent search capability
For example, by entering a phrase with quote marks, I should be able to see only those cards which contain that exact phrase, not just any card which happens to contain any one of the words in the phrase.
    5) Intelligent handling of two-surname couples.
For non-business, personal entries, there's a reality out there which needs to be acknowledged: there are a lot of unmarried couples sharing the same address and basic contact info, AND there are many married couples where the wife has retained her own surname.
Address Book needs to be able to deal with two-surname couples much more intelligently, so that (for example) a search can be run using EITHER surname to access the same card. Also, you've got an Anniversary field, but apparently no option to add a second "Birthday" date (since most couples do have different birthdays).
There needs to be a basic template in which the members of couples with different surnames each get equal "weight" in the database -- and this applies to same-sex couples as well, so the pairs of Surname and Birthday fields should not be automatically designated as "His" and "Hers".
    6) Ways to enter partial dates
For certain date fields (such as "Brthday" and "Anniversary"), it's often the case where only a year is know, or a year and a month but not the exact date. Sometimes a date is just a best guess or an approximation. But Address Book seems determined to create a complete date, using the current month and day if none are entered, and not even letting manually erase same after it does.
A little flexibility here, please! I know I can put anything I want down in the Notes field, but couldn't the Birthday and Anniversary ones be made a little less rigid in their formatting?
    7) Remember the new template fields when editing
I've added several new fields for the template which appears when I create a new entry. But it's annoying when those new fields all disappear as soon as I then need to edit that entry later on.
You've given us the option to add additional fields to our default template when we CREATE a new entry; why not also give us the option to access those same additional fields (and field names in the pull down lists) when we EDIT the same entry?
This should even apply to entries which were originally created using the original Apple template -- the new fields and field names created by the user should become available whenever you go into Edit mode.
    8) Make Distribution Lists easily printable, exportable, and more flexible.
Should be able to select more than one e-address from a particular contact for a distribution list (as in both members of a couple, or both the home and work e-addresses for a particular individual -- instead of having to create a separate card just for those separate e-addresses).
Also like to be able to simply copy/paste a distribution list (and/or Export it as a Tab or Paragraph delineated text file), which I could either print out, or e-mail to a friend who needed it, etc.
    9) Hours of Operation field.
For commercial/business entries, a default "Hours" field would be nice, with some sort of easy-to-select options to facilitate entering the times a business, a store, or even a customer service line is open on given days. There should even be the ability to enter seasonal hours for different times of year.
I hope that these features have already been incorporated into the next release of Address Book -- and if not, that you'll give serious consideration to implementing them as soon as possible. Your users will thank you.

  • 'Other Address List' not showing in Address Book

I'm trying to create an customized address list that will appear in the address book. I've placed the contacts into a contacts folder, and placed this contacts folder into a .pst file. This way, I can distribute this .pst file for others to use the same
    address list.
I'm aware that I have to tick 'Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book', under the properties of the contact folder.
This address book does show up under 'Other Address List' -> name of the address book, when we look at the address book drop down list. This is when I only have 1 email account under the same Outlook profile.
When I have more than 1 email account under the same Outlook profile, this address list shows itself under the 2nd email account, and not 'Other Address List'.
Is this by design or could it be a bug? Is there a way to fix this / any workarounds? Thank you!
FYI I am waiting for verification of my account as I can't post pictures or links. I've already completed verification by clicking the link. Maybe there's a delay somewhere.

    Hi,
I tested this issue and I can reproduce it in my environment. However, as far as I know, this behavior won't affect the usage of the address book.
I searched the internal resource but I cannot find a bug report regarding this issue. If you have any suggestion about this issue, you can submit a feedback via:

  • ICal: 'Open in Address Book' Function for 'Attendees' does not Work

iCal lets you drag a Contact from Address Book to the 'Attendees' field of an iCal Event. (You can also put the information into the field by typing the first few letters of the person's name, and Address Book will automatically populate the field with contacts containing those letters.) When you click on a contact in 'Attendees' and select 'Open in Address Book', it is supposed to open the contact's information in Address Book (in case you needed their phone number, forgot their wife's name, etc.). In the previous version of iCal, this ALMOST worked; it would find someone in Address Book, but it would be the first person in your Address Book list with that first name; not always the person you wanted.
The problem now is that when you click on a contact in 'Attendees' and select 'Open in Address Book', it simply opens the Address Book application and stops there; it does not go to the contact's data in Address Book. I sent Apple feedback on this problem 3 years ago, and again a few months ago, but it still does not work correctly. Does this work correctly for anyone?

Mine actually performs the sync, but after a few rounds of syncing, some contacts get deleted, some get their photos removed, some get duplicated, and some get removed from groups. The sync basically puts my address book through a blender. I'm syncing both with MobileMe and Google. Well, that is I tried to. I've decided not to sync with Google since that's what seems to initiate the mess.

  • Is it possible to change the size of the Picture in Address Book

Hi, the contact pictures in the Address Book are way to small, is there the possibility to show them bigger??
    Thanks
    MacBook White 1,83 - 80GB HD - 2GB - EX-RSS   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

No, I don't think so. When you put a picture on the card you can control what part of the picture is used, but there is no control for the subsequent size.
You could try using OS X Feedback and ask them to change it in the next release ...

  • Offline Address Book and GAL corrupted.

I have and Exchange 2013 cluster with 3 servers all performing both CAS and MB roles. This environment was originally a 2003 server, then 2007, then 2010, and now 2013 so it has been migrated many times in the past. It seems at some point something was missed
and now we are having serious issues.
It started when I was unable to create new profiles in Outlook. After much troubleshooting and digging I found I was also having a problem creating new mailboxes in Exchange and even updating settings such as mailbox limits. When I try to create a new Mailbox
    I receive the error:
    The LdapRecipientFilter "(& (mailnickname=*) (| (&(objectCategory=person)(objectClass=user)(!(homeMDB=*))(!(msExchHomeServerName=*)))(&(objectCategory=person)(objectClass=user)(|(homeMDB=*)(msExchHomeServerName=*)))(&(objectCategory=person)(objectClass=contact))(objectCategory=group)(objectCategory=publicFolder)(objectCategory=msExchDynamicDistributionList)
))" on Address List or Email Address Policy "\Default Global Address List" is invalid. Additional information: The attribute type 'mailnickname' or its syntax is not defined in the schema.
This all seems to come down to issues with the Global AddressList and the Offline Address List. Thanks to other posts and Google I found that I should simply update these list using Get-AddressList | Update-AddressList and Get-GlobalAddressList | Update-GlobalAddressList.
These commands however through some erros:

From what I read this is due to invalid characters in these entries of the Address Books. If I still had my 2010 box I could go in to the Exchange Toolbox, manage the Address Lists and change the Alias of these entries. I don't have a 2010 box though. All
I have is 2013 and from what I have read there is no way to manage the Address lists through the ECP.
I have tried changing them in the Shell with this command:
    Get-Mailbox | Where {$_.Alias -like "* *"} | ForEach-Object {Set-Mailbox $_.Name -Alias:($_.Al
    as -Replace " ","")}
    But this did not work.
How do I fix this issue in an Exchange 2013 environment? Please let me know if more information is needed and thank you in advance for any help.

    Hi,
I suggest we rebuild the GAL by contacting a Microsoft Support, or it will be a non-support environment. For your reference, a simple version of the rebuilding steps:
    1. Remove the current GAL
    2. Run “/PrepareAD” and it will recreate the GAL.
    Regards,

  • Address Book sync to iPod Touch problems

First synch seemed ok but following synchs missing whole groups, new entries and changes, whether made on the pod or the Macbook. Set the itunes to overwrite on next synch, result; no addresses at all on the pod.
iTunes is now not showing the list of address book categories at all.
Have reset iSync history, rebuilt permissions and now out of ideas..

There are so many funky things being reported with syncing both Address Book and iCal, probably no one knows. Mine used to sync fine (before which upgrade I don't know), but now I get only the group names and absolutely no addresses! You might try resetting the sync history in iTunes (advanced tab I think); that has been reported to sometimes help. It could make it worse, though. Good luck.
Here's a place to report syncing bugs; maybe if Apple hears from enough of us these synching issues will get higher priority:

  • Address book groups in icloud

I have been a long time mac mail user and love it.  With iCould I cannot seem to access my address book groups like in mac mail.  Is there any way to send mail to these groups in icloud mail, like I can in mac mail.  The reson being is that my office has sbcglobal as our IT provider and it has glitches with mac mail.
