Address book: GAL initial not visible, only by searching (Exchange 2007)

Hi all,
in the address book there is the GAL from our Exchange 2007. But I can't see any contacts when I click on the list.
Only when searching (search bar on the right side), contacts appear.
Is this the standard or what can I do to see ALL contacts from GAL initial (without searching)?
Thanks for your help.

bneely: Where is this intended behavior documented? I have looked everywhere and am finding nothing noting this. The GAL is viewable through OWA and so it should also be browsable through EWS.

want to know how to add pictures to address book that DO NOT appear as fullscreen images on the iPhone but remain as icons with the iPhone background visible (see attached image). for some reason, all new contacts added through Mountain Lion appear as fullscreen caller ID images.

This would be better addressed in the iPhone forum, I would post there as well.

  • MacBook Address Book Application Does Not Run

MacBook OSX 10.5.8 - Address Book application will not run - it shows up in Applications Folder but will not run - either double click or command File - Open.  I have reinstalled the Address Book application with the original installation disk, which indicated the application was installed, still will not run.  Rebooted, reinstalled again - same result -- the Applications Folder shows the file size as 1.4 Mb - updated today - the installation disk showed approx. 53 Mb was being installed - not sure if the Application Directory is only showing a command file or what - also ran the hardware diagnostic and found no problems.  Software update shows current software is up to date.
Haven't used Address Book so do not know if it ever worked.  Need it now to sync with IPhone 4.  Any Ideas?

    rjackjr,
After reinstalling an Apple application from the installation disk, it is also necessary to reinstall the latest Combo Update for the installed system. In your case that would be Mac OS X 10.5.8 Combo Update.
Try that and see what happens with your Address Book application.

  • Address Book Server will not sync all fields with iOS client

    Hello,
I am getting really frustrated with my Mac Mini Server.
Apparently, the Address Book Server DOES NOT sync all fields.
Only standard vCard-fields seem to synced.
I have not successfully synced user-defined fields, such as an additional date.
Any ideas / infos on how to achieve this if this possible at all?
    Thanks for the input,
    Erasmus
One thing: I posted the same question in the "Lion" (non-server) discussion - sorry for any confusion.
    One thing I noticed:
All changes made on the server in the OS X Address Book are distributed to two iOS clients (iPod 4th Gen iOS4 iPhone 3GS iOS 4).
    Any help is appreciated.

    Sorry for answering myself...
I just found out that after editing the newly distributed entry on an iOS4-Client, some fields on the server are deleted!

  • When I delete a name from the address book it does not delete it from the drop down name menu when forwarding a message. How do I remove it from the drop down menu?

When I delete a name from Address Book it is not removed from the name drop down list when forwarding a message. How can I remove it from the drop down list?

In Mail go to the Window Menu and select Previous Recipients. Deleting entries from there won't delete them from your Address Book.

  • Best Solutions For Offline Address Book on Workstations Not Updating Frequently Enough?

We use Exchange 2010 SP2 and we set Outlook 2010 to Exchange Cached mode by default for all workstations.  This seems to work OK for the majority of email most of the time, but because we are very frequently adding and removing external mail contacts
and and adding and removing them from distribution lists, the GAL and  distribution lists memberships are frequently out of date in the middle of the work day.
Sometimes the users can manually download an updated OAB assuming it has been updated on the server, but sometimes the OAB is not updated yet and redownloading the OAB solves nothing.  It is a lot of hassle, confusion  about bounced messages and
missing contacts and phantom names in distribution lists with this method.
I notice that for mail contacts, there is an All Contacts address book that is live, but it does not include include anything else other than contact addresses.  Distribution List memberships are still out of date until the OAB is updated on the server
and then downloaded to the Outlook client.  This is taking too long.
Is there a keyboard shortcut to force the client to do a GAL address lookup in online mode rather than using the cached OAB?
Can Outlook display both an online and offline address book for the GAL and let the user manually select online version of the GAL if a contact or new mailbox or DL has not synced to the OAB yet?
If we set the registry key to force online address books even when Outlook is in cached Exchange mode, is there any performance downside for PCs on the LAN other than the GAL being unavailable when the network is not available?
Would the Exchange server have a significantly higher load if most PCs were accessing the GAL without an OAB cache?
If we should not expect a significant increase in server load or network traffic, we might set desktops to use online access to the GAL and only laptops to use OAB.

    Hi,
If users are accessing the GAL without OAB cache, definitely it will increase in server load and network traffic. If you are in cached mode, one suggestion is to define that in Send/Receive Settings:
Go to Send/Receive Groups -> Define Send/Receive Groups
-> Select the account and Edit -> Select
Include the selected account in this group, and check Download offline address book -> Click
OK -> Go back to Send/Receive Groups, select the frequency for automatic send/receive(Schedule an automatic send/receive every x minutes.), and then close.
I hope this setting can help in your scenario.

  • LYNC 2013 generating Full Address book files but not the delta ones

    Dear Experts,
I have noticed after I installed a new LYNC 2013 pool that the SQL share for address book is only showing F-xxxx for full downloads of address book but I am not seeing the D-xxx delta files which is causing my client not to receive the GALContactDelta file.
This new pool is an enterprise LYNC 2013 and I am currently testing to move from LYNC 2010. I have only one Address Book configuration policy and I did not create any new policy for the new pool/site. Any suggestions where to check the cause is appreciated.
    Regards,
    A. Zaher
    A. Zaher

    Hi,
If the address book contains over 50K entries, the client maintains a separate delta database GalContactsDelta.db and index GalContactsDelta.db.idx for GAL contacts, and periodically merges
updates into its main database GalContacts.db.

  • Address book model is not respected when I add new fields

    Hello,
If I add new fields in the model of my adress book. AddressBook display does not comply with the specified model.
For example, after father, mother and joint, I added the following fields child 1, grand-child 1, child 2, grand-child 2, child 3, grand-child 3, child 4, grand-child 4, in order to have descendants of my friend or family.
    The result is :
    child 3 : Oscar
    child 4 : Anatole
    child 2 : Victor
    child 5 : Constantin
    child 1 : Aline
Please note that I entered the 5 children in the good order : Aline, Victor, Oscar, Anatole, Constantin.
An other example can be completely different with children and grand-children mixed !
To be complete, I can say that in Mac OS X 10.4 address book was running correctly, but is no longer running in 10.5 nor 10.6.7
    Best regards

The iPad can't be infected with a virus - by the definition of a virus being a malicious program that replicates itself across your operating system and other programs. It can be infected with malware, however that usually only happens when a user taps on a link, or actively does something.
Since the iPad can't run flash or java (?)(all or most kinds of java) then it's relatively secure.
    You're probably fine.
The iPad's operating system is different enough from Mac's or PC's that even if you do tap on a virus it can't run...the malicious code is speaking a language that the iPad can't understand.

  • Address book in Lion not working

I use Address Book on both my computers and on my iPad. With iCloud, everything's synced. Until about a month ago. On my iMac, Address Book is not working :
    It is empty.
I cannot import any archived file.
I cannot connect to iCloud. It won't add the account
I cannot create a new entry. File > New card does nothing
Here is what I tried :
    Reboot
    Check and repair permissions
    Reinstalled Lion
    No change.
But wheh I start whith another account, it works...
    Any clues?

Among many other issues with Lion, I am having this one as well.  As with a few applications, it is only occuring with users authenticating to open directory.  Local users are not having the issue.  Address Book will not save imported information.  We imported several vCard files to it and after quiting and reopening, the information is not there.

  • Changes to contact information in iMac / MacBook Address Book results in duplicate entries only on the iPhone / iPad

I have my iCloud account synced to an iMac, MacBook, iPhone 4, and iPad 2.  Any changes I make to a contact on the MacBook and iMac result in 2 different contacts on my iPhone with the same name.
In other words, making changes in the address book on my iMac or MacBook, adds another contact on my iPhone / iPad with the new information and same name.  As an example, if I have "John Doe" as contact on all of my devices, and I decide to make a change on my MacBook or iMac, I suddenly have 2 entries on my iPhone as John Doe.  They are not exact duplicates.  1 of the John Doe entries has my original information, and the other John Doe has my new information.  Deleting the "old" John Doe contact deletes all of the entries on all of my devices and I lose all of my contact information completely on all of the devices for John Doe.
Making changes to a contact on my MacBook and iMac only causes issues with my iPhone / iPad.  The synchronization between my iMac and MacBook work just fine, and a new entry with the same name is not created.  My MacBook and iMac do not show duplicates so the "Look for Duplicates" function in my address book doesn't solve the problem on my iPhone.  The only solution so far that seems to work is to go into the iCloud Settings on my iPhone / iPad, temporarily turn off my Contacts, thereby effectively deleting them, and then turning the Contacts back on.  I did change my Apple ID email address recently so I wonder if that plays a role or not.  My new Apple ID has been changed on all of my devices.
Hope that makes sense and hope some people out there have some ideas.

If you are using Outlook 2011, make sure you have the latest service pack and update.
Make sure your Mac Book and all devices have the latest update.
If the Calendar on the Mac Book is correct go to step 3
Assuming Mac Book Calendar is correct, remove accounts from iPhone, iPad.
Reconnect account to iPhone, iPad account.
All calendars should now be in sync.
There are times when the Mail, Calendar, Contact application has been corrupted (Outlook 2011, Mac Mail, Entourage, etc).  This will cause all kinda of issues on your devices.  You have to repair the mail client first.  In the case of Outlook you can delete the profile and recreate it.  In Mac Mail you can rebuild (from Tools on the menu bar)

  • New MAC OSX Address Book Groups Do Not Appear in iTunes for iPhone Sync?

New Groups (and their associated new contacts) created in the MAC OSX Address Book since the initial installation of my iPhone do not appear in iTunes, and hence do not sync with iPhone. I have tried the Advanced - Replace information on this iPhone - Contacts to no avail.

I had this problem for several weeks now!
I followed your procedure and - addresses there, calender gone! Even worse!
So I copied the old SyncServices Folder back into /Library/Application Support/
result as expected, calender there, addresses gone.
My lady called, I was on the phone for 10 minutes or so. Coming back to my iMac I see a Sync-Problem-Icon jumping in the dock. I've been told that one of my addresses has a conflict between adressbook and iPhone. OK. Solve it with adressbook, please.
I open iTunes and everything is there, calender data and adresses!
    Finally!
    Thank you, Maurizio!

  • Address Book locks up -- not responding

OK, at wit's end here. Address Book locks up with spinning beachball every time it opens and I need to force quit it. Here's what I've tried after search through these forums:
    Deleted plist file
Deleted all files in Application Support (after backing them up)
    Repaired permissions on disk
    Verified disk
    Reinstalled Address Book
    Resolved all duplicate fonts
At one point in the process, I opened Address Book executable in the app's package and the Terminal gave message that said "Can't ABACQUIREFILELOCK Framework/AddressBook/ABAddressBook.m:2746"
Now it doesn't say that, but "/Applications/Address\ Book.app/Contents/MacOS/Address\ Book; exit"
    No crash logs in Console.
    Happens in every user account.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    20" iMac G5 (PowerMac8,1)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I had to do forced powerdown. That tell us anything?
Yes, your Disk is corrupted... the first thing Safe Boot does is try to fix the Disk.
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
Unfortunately, Disk Utility can't fix all that much, and the only other Apple Options are erasing the HD, or installing OSX to a second drive, then using Migration Assistant to move stuff over to the new HD.
You must repair the HD, if Disk Utility or fsck should fail to repair it, your best bet is DiskWarrior from Alsoft, you'll need the CD to boot from if you don't have another boot drive...

  • My address book application will not allow me to open it.

My icon is blue rather than tan. I cannot delete or change any addresses in the address book.

    You're Welcome Michigan Betty!
    Did you
"Navigate to HD > Users > Your Account > Library > Preferences: Move to the Trash this file com.apple.AddressBook.plist, as I advised?
What size is the Hard Drive, and how much space is available?
What happened between the last time Address Book loaded successfully, and when it didn't?
Have you made any changes, like upgrading the system, updated or installed any applications or programs, etc?
I'm a bit puzzled as to why the size of your Address Book differs from mine on Panther 10.3.9
    Mine: 2.2 MB
    Yours: 1.4 MB
Have there been any unusual occurences, like freezes, crashes, power outages, etc?
Have you run Repair Disk & Repair Permissions?
THESE ARE THE STEPS FOR USING DISK UTILITY TO REPAIR YOUR HD
1.Insert the System Install disk, Mac OS X CD-ROM disk, or Restore DVD disk, then restart the computer while holding the C key. Use the System disk, of the OS, that is currently installed.
2.Once started up from CD or DVD, choose Disk Utility from the Installer contextual menu for Panther, or Utilities for Tiger, on the Menubar at the top of the screen.
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from disc to access Disk Utility.
    3.Click the First Aid tab.
4.Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5.Select your Mac OS X volume, if necessary.
6.Click Repair. If DU reports errors it has fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported.
7.When finished, select Quit Disk Utility from the Installer menu.
8.Select Quit Installer from the Installer menu.
9.In the resulting pop-up window, choose restart.
10.After the computer has restarted, you can eject the CD.
TO REPAIR PERMISSIONS ON THE STARTUP DISK
1.Open Disk Utility, located in Applications/Utilities, and select the startup disk in the left column.
    2.Click First Aid.
3.Click Verify Disk Permissions to test permissions or Repair Disk Permissions to test and repair permissions. (I never "Verify". Just run "Repair".)
Rerun RP until the only messages reported are listed here Spurious Permissions Errors Using: 10.3.x, authored by Michael Conniff
When "Repair Permissions" is complete. Quit "Disk Utility".

  • Address book directories view not acessible

    Hi
I'm having a problem with address book. In the 'view' pane, I can only access two of the three possibillities: "Card" and "columns". "Directories" is in grey and I cannot click on it. I want to see the directories view, so I can see a list of addresses or telephonenumber, ordered by name.
    what am I doing wrong?

"Directories" is for use with a network shared directory service system such as Microsoft Exchange or LDAP. Are you on such a system? If not, and your Address Book is only standalone and local to your computer, that view will not be valid for you.

  • Unble to sync. address book GAL

Dear all, i have oracle outlook connector installed at my company some user have outlook 2000 and some of them 2002. i am not able in both outlook to sync. address book the synchronization button is disabled (grayed). i tried to set it from the oracle connector tab in the outlook options but can't find this tab.
i tried to follow the following note wiht no luck
"7. How often is the GAL refreshed? How do you control the refresh from an OCFO Perspective? Answer ------ The GAL can be refreshed in two different ways: automatically and/or manually. (a) Automatic Refresh: -Select the Tools Menu -Choose Options -Select the "Oracle Connector" tab -Press the "Calendar Options..." button -In the Address Book section, make sure that the following box is checked: "Automatically refresh the Global Address List when working online" By default, the GAL is assumed to be valid for 7 days. (b) No Automatic Refresh: -Select the Tools Menu -Choose Options -Select the "Oracle Connector" tab -Press the "Calendar Options..." button -In the Address Book section, make sure that the following box is not checked: "Automatically refresh the Global Address List when working online" (c) Manually: Regarless of whether or not you are automatically refreshing the GAL, you can decide to update the GAL manually. To do so: Outlook 2000: -Select the Tools menu -Choose Synchronize -Then select "Download Address Book..." Outlook 2002/2003 -Select the Tools menu -Choose Send/Receive -Then select "Download Address Book..." You will then see a progress bar and a completely new version of the GAL will downloaded -- this may take a few minutes. "

Add this line to your calendar server's unison.ini file, this will make the GAL update automatically. You can also manually update by going to the Tools menu, select Send/Receive and click "Download Global Address List"
