Address book groups not updated in iSync and iTunes-iPod-info sync

Changes to address book groups are not reflected in iSync and iTunes. I.e. if I remove a group or add a group it is still the old list of groups that is listed in iSync and iTunes available for syncing with my phone or iPod. How do I get these list to be updated and reflect the present list in Address Book?

The suggested resolution essentially said "delete the address book and start over."
Ok, I can see how this will help but... a few questions:
1. How to I re-load the address book with my 500+ contacts without loosing my groups and all the data? The suggestion in the other discussion doesn't give any guidance on this
2. What caused the problem to begin with? In other words, how can I prevent it from happening again?
I discovered the syncing problem about the time I did the following three things:
1. Upgraded to 10.5.2
2. Upgraded my iPhone (and iTunes) to 1.1.4
3. Installed Bento (possibly a red herring) -- but it DOES connect to address book

Address book card not updating from LDAP on server

I am running 10.5.6 on a MacBook and connecting to a 10.5.6 server. If I search the LDAP directory in Address Book and add a found card to my Address Book, it should update automatically with any changes - the box is ticked in the LDAP Preferences in Address Book.
The thing is, updates are not happening. I can connect to the server and searches come up with the information I want, but cards previously dragged to the Address Book from an earlier search never get updated.
Any ideas, anyone?

If a new OAB is set as default, please check whether the OAB folder in the following path is the latest date in Exchange sever:
a. OAB generated in Mailbox:
\\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\ ExchangeOAB
b. OAB distribution in Client Access:
\\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\ClientAccess\OAB
If the OAB file is not generated, please collect any event logs in Mailbox server and provide your OAB virtual directory information for more troubleshooting. If the files in both of two folders are latest,
we can try the following steps in Outlook to download Offline Address Book:
1. Delete the *.oab files in the following folders in local machine:
\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\Offline Address Books
2. Create a new Outlook profile that uses Cached Exchange Mode.
3. Start Outlook 2010 with this new profile.
4. In the ribbon click Send / Receive, click
Send/Receive Groups and then click Download Address Book.

Address Book Groups not showing up in iTunes

The groups that I have set up in Address Book are not showing up in the Info tab in iTunes when attempting to sync my iPhone. The iCal calendars show and sync with no problems. I have tried resetting sync history, logging off of my .Mac account and logging back in.
Any advise? Thanks.

Don't take what I have to say as fact, because I don't use a Mac and could be mistaken. I remember reading last night something about people taking and checking the box on the Summary page of iTunes to replace the info on the iPhone with the computer. Once that was done, it seemed to correct this issue and showed the address groups after that.
It might be worth the experiment, however I would make sure I had a backup of the phone before I tried it. I know it was only the last day or show that I read it, so if you want to search the forum before you try it, be my guest. I don't want to ruin anything for you, but I just remember reading that someone did that and it fixed it.

Smart Groups in Address Book Do Not Update

I use Smart Groups in Address Book in Lion. It has worked great before the upgrade to Lion. Now when I create an entry with the proper fields to activate the entry go to a Smart Group. It doesn't. I have compared the parameters and compared with other addresses with the same parameters and still no update of the Smart Group.

This same concept applies to syncing two macs via .Mac
The method I use for iPhone is this.
Define your smart group as needed.
Define a read group with a similar or convenient name.
From time to time drag your whole smart group to the real group.
The real group is the one that then syncs to your iPhone.
As a safety factor, I usually clear all entries from my real group before I drag over the updated smart group.
Anyway, this is simple and works well.

Mail + Address Book - groups not working

I'm able to create groups just fine in Address book.
However when it comes to using them in Mail, they won't work:
I type the first couple of characters and Mail offers to auto-complete,
so it does know about them. When I hit return at that point *nothing*
appears in the address field, it just stays blank.
Any ideas what's going on here and how to fix it?

I have checked that all the names are ones that I have used regularly for some weeks, so they are real emails.
The other thing I tried was to have both Mail and Contacts open at the same time, then selected all the names in the group and tried dragging and dropping over the To box in Mail. However, again it simply adds the first 2 names and ignores the others.
Each of the other 6 names add fine individually, but that defeats the point of setting up the group!
Any thoughts?

Address Book GROUPS not working w/multiple addresses ?

I made a small group w/ 3 people in it, each with 2-4 emails, but I can't choose which email
it sends to, only the first one.
I selected the group but EDIT DISTRIBUTION LIST is grayed out.
Any ideas ??

Address Book does not synchronize

Hi.
My Address Book does not update when I add a contact in Mail.
It also does not sync with my iPhone. When I tried to replace the information on my phone, I ended up with all my contacts on the phone being wiped out! I don't use MobileMe.
I went to iSync to reset Sync History, but no joy.
I have created another user account, and added a few names in the Address Book to test this, and this does sync with my iPhone.
So I think this is a problem isolated to Address Book in my user account. Can I reset it somehow, so that it links back to all these other programs?

Found the answer in another post by V.K.
delete the file homedirectory/library/application support/address book/AddressBook-v22.abcddb and the file /homedirectory/library/preferences/com.apple.addressbook.plist.
Once I did this it works again

ISync syncs to wrong Address Book group

When I sync my phone (Nokia 3230) with my MacBook, I designate the Address Book group titled "Contacts in 3230" to be synced. But contacts that I've added to the phone (my usual way of adding new contacts) are transferred to my "All" contacts in Address Book, but NOT to the designated group. To correct this, I have to manually try to remember what contacts were added to the phone, and then copy them from "All" into the "Contacts in 3230" group.
How can I make iSync sync to the designated group?

I have the same problem with a Nokia 6230. Really annoying as i sync has now cluttered up my mac address book with phone contacts that i wanted in a specific group called 'nokia back up' Also I tried putting a test item in this folder and this did not download onto the phone. I don't want my phone filled with all of my contacts and i don't want my mac filled with all the temporary contacts that end up in a phone on a Friday night. All i want is to back up my phone to my mac in case i loose it. should be simple enough!

When I compose an E-mail my address book will not open when I click on TO or CC, but it does work on other computers and also if I use explorer.

My address book will not show when I click on the TO or CC button, a mozilla page does open but there is no content. My E-mail accounts work fine on other computers. It also works fine on this computer if I use Explorer instead.

Question: why mail does not recognize an address book group

i could not find an address book forum - excuse me if i post here.
an address book group with about 20 names has worked well for a year.
today i added and deleted a few names. now mail does not recognize the name as an email group.
i created a new group with a new name and imported all the names in one block from the non working group. the new group also is not recognized as having email addesses in mail.
my other groups seem to work fine.
i had entourage for awhile and had to rebuild it periodically. do i need to do something similar here.

Check the names of your groups that you have this issue with to make sure you don't have any special characters or extra spaces at the beginning or end of the group name.
I just found another posting on the message boards that solved my issues. Someone discovered that they had a blank space in their group name which was causing the error. I didn't have any extra spaces at th end of the group name, but I did have a period in my group name (St. Francis). I removed the period from the group name in address book and now the emails send to that group without the error message.

ISync only certain Address Book Groups ... ?

Is there any way to synchronize only certain address book groups using iSync?
Right now, you have to either sync ALL contacts or only ONE group ....
I would prefer not to have to drag contacts into one new group everytime I add somebody new ....
Either have this feature or maybe one that recognizes Smart Groups ?
Or maybe I'm missing a button or preference that can make this happen? :P

OK but that not work fine...
After sync the phone with the Address Book group named TESTGRP I run these steps:
1) remove a contact from the TESTGRP group (remove only not delete the contact)
2) sync the phone too
3) on my phone the removed contact is already present

have a text convo with the person you want to delete. Go to the top contact in the text convo, hit edit contact, and delete that contact.

You used to be able to do this through leaving unchecked the box in preferences "when sending to a group show all member addresses". However, that feature failed some time ago (two or three years?) and the only way to hide the addresses now is to put the group in the BCC field.

Since I'd installed the new version of iTunes, iCal and Address book do not sync with my iPhone 3GS through iTunes anymore and I get an error message stating that iTunes can not sync with this iPhone. Was must i do to correct this issue?
