Contact photos are not showing up in Mail message list, even though the message will link to the contact card in Address Book with the photo in it.

I'm using Mail 5.3 and Address Book 6.1.3 on X 10.7.5. I want my contact photos to show up in the message list on Mail, but only some of them do, even though the message will link to the contact card in Address Book with the photo in it. Completely maddening thing that address book - and no other app I have ever encountered does, as you are typing information into the notes field of a contact, it will suddenly jump the cursor up to the start of the page, often leaving one word half finished and adding onto the front of some other bit of information is a totally crazy way.
I use three Macs, all of them do it. Has anyone else encountered this?
It seems to be since the ghastly faux leather Lion address book has been introduced, ( I assume Mr Jobs had nothing to do with that )
Any ideas on how to prevent it happening? Im not a touch typist, so I have to keep looking at the kbd, then I wont realise until half way through a sentence it has decided to split it in half and put some of it at the top of the page. Crazy.

My Address Book has been emptied of addresses, both personal and group. How can I get them back? Is it because of the IDN update?

When I go in address book, then on either or personal or group, nothing desirable happens. Under 'group' my name appears broken seemingly into columns, as well as my user name, and my email addy for my gmail account. Funny about that gmail name, as I have never intentionally linked it to my tbird account. Please help this old granny, it is driving me insane. Not to mention that i've written this mozilla support bit at least 5 times and something wipes it out before I can submit it.

What happened when this change occurred? What is an "IDN update"?
Can you provide a screenshot (suitably obfuscated) to demonstrate the "my name appears broken seemingly into columns" effect?
I don't know of anything formally called a "group" in Thunderbird's address book, so any other words or names that appear might help here. For instance, my Address Book has mentions of Address Book Contact, Address Book and List. The "List" is perhaps the closest to the group concept used in other address book environments.
Finally, what version of Thunderbird and what OS are you usng?

If I press "write" (to a particular group), TB by default creates a message with all the recipients in "To" mode - i.e. all the recipients will see each other's email addresses. How do I change the default message setting to "bcc" without having to change every single entry in the email manually?

Do not start a message in the address book. It is not the best place to do that.
That is what the Write window is for. Open the Write window and turn on the contact sidebar by pressing F9.
Select the contact, contacts or list that you want to send to and then use one of the ADD TOO: buttons at the bottom of the sidebar.
Hold the control key while clicking items to select multiple items.

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. I got this message today too. I understand that my music is stored on my computer, however I want to be certain that if I re-install iTunes, it won't erase my library....playlists, playcounts, checked songs, etc.

How to deal with the "driver not installed" message?

My issue, and it seems many others here have it too, is how to install a printer driver in the face of the "driver not installed" message.
In my case, it's an HP4160 Rendevous printer. I've deleted the com.apple.print files in the Library, reinstalled the software, made sure that BDC package, or whatever it's called is installed, even downloaded and run the printer fix software from Fixamac.
Nothing works.
I have the feeling this isn't a printer or driver-specific issue, but is an OS problem. Does anyone have a suggestion?

It appears the Deskjet 4160 will not work with an Airport. Connected via USB, the driver installs normally and the the printer appears to run just fine, although I haven't done much with it yet.
It simply will not work on a wireless network through an Airport. Frustrating, but workable by bringing the laptop to the printer.

I add all new addresses to one of those but am afraid to delete the other address books because some of their addresses are not repeated in my "main" address book. So if I don't delete all the names in one of the existing books, I need to create an empty book that will not mix the addresses with those in another address book. You have to assign the favicon yourself to the desktop shortcut (right-click the shortcut: Properties) after you have dragged the link to the desktop.
You can usually find the favicon in Tools >Page Info > Media and save the icon there.
Otherwise use the main domain of the website and add favicon.ico (e.g. mozilla.com/favicon.ico ) to display the favicon in a tab and save that image to a folder.

only way is to restore the phone as new. OR wait until IOS 7 comes out in the fall.

Address Book in Lion will not launch an email from the contact card.

I used to be able to go to a contact in Address Book on the macbook pro and double click the Email field on the contact card and it would either launch Mail with an email addressed to that address or it would give me the option to do so. In Lion nothing happens. If I right click it asks me to open the URL of the website of the email address with Safari and not Mail.
For example: Open Address Book, double click a contact and double click the Email field lets say just for example, [email protected] It used to launch the Mail app with an email addressed to [email protected], however now nothing happens when you double click the Email field on the card. If you right click it you get the option to open the URL and it sends you to www.apple.com
Is this new with Lion? In Snow Leopard it worked great.

Address Book v 6.1.3 allows you to place the mouse cursor over the word "home" and then
click to reveal a context sensitive menu - "Send Email" is but one of the options available.

It seems that you have to choose one or the other, keep iMAcc addresses or iPhone.

Indeed you can merge the address book using iCloud. You can find the info here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3998. I am not sure if you can de-duplicate though.
