Address Book in French?!
My address book is in French, which is a problem since...I don't know any french... I check the system pref>international settings: all on english, no french involved. None of my other programs are operating in a different language. I tried going to (what I think was) "Help"... & it said "Help" was not available (weird!). How can I get address book back to english? Please help!
Some background info that I think might be contributing to this problem:
To save space, I deleted Address Book a few months ago. I was putting all of my contact info in entourage & didn't think I would be using address book at all. Now that I have a Palm & want to sync, I need to use address book! (stupid me for deleting that app). I also would like to add birthdays to work with iCal that I started using as well.
I'm not sure how, but I have (what seems to be) some kind of remnant of the address book app that I deleted- it is the one that's in French. Maybe it was added to my computer when I updated my Tiger OS X? Is there any way to delete that & download a fresh version of Address Book? Anyways, it calls itself "Address Book," but it uses a different icon- one that uses a ruler, a pencil and a paintbrush to make the letter "A"... I don't know if that helps at all, but I thought I'd just throw it out there. Please help! Thank you!

GaryCreate a new Finder window and click on the Applications item in the sidebar. From here, select the Address Book application. Choose Get Info from the File menu and uncheck everything except English under Languages. If English doesn't appear in the list, reinstall Address Book from the Tiger installation disk, using Pacifist if necessary, and then run the combo updater for your version of Mac OS X.

Carnet d'adresses (Address Book) in Snow Leopard (French) is in English

I use Snow Leopard in French and for some reason Address Book is in English with the exceptions of the menus at the top which are in French. The window title says "Address Book", I have "Edit" instead of "Modifier", etc.
How can I fix this minor inconvenience?

How to Export Address Book contacts as CSV file for Gmail?
Hi
I wish to export some of my Address Book contacts towards Gmail (which i use through the web interface for now) but I don't want to export vcards as i don't trust big brother Google with all the other data (snail mail, phone numbers, birthdays, etc).
I have tried to do the export through Address Book but found no CSV export option.
I've searched the forum for an answer, but to no avail. Some other (paying) websites claim to offer solutions but the "pay before you see" deters me from using them.
Any tip on how to do this would be greatly appreciated. Scripts and software also welcome, if shareware/freeware.

Address Book break Apple rules !
Very strange behaviour. I just notice that Address Book application store "user data" in the folder "user/library/application support".
But this folder is not intend to keep such kinf of data, specially "user data".
According to Apple rules,Application Support folder : "Contains application-specific data and support files such as
third-party plug-ins, helper applications, templates, and extra resources that are used by the application but not required for it to operate. *This directory should never contain any kind of user data*. By convention, all of these items should be put in a subdirectory named after the application. For example, third-party resources for the application MyApp would go in Application Support/MyApp/. Note that required resources should go inside the application bundle itself."

It's also a problem when doing custom saves (how not forget Address Book database), and so on...
Little annoyements.
We talk a lot on french usenet (fr.comp.os.mac-os.x) this subject and we also found that Mail data has the proper location : why not put mail data into user folder like "music" folder or "images" folder, why not a "mail" folder. This is the same behaviour and potential problem.
Those little difference between user data handle and "proper" location is not a big issue of course, but may cause some little damage and confusion.
MacOS X could be improved here. -

ADDRESS BOOK- cell phone use_pairing_
I having paired my cellphone Moto Razr with my powerbook g4 it works with everything except address book. Help says I should be able to use caller id and make calls by dialing numbers with Address Book. I hit the bluetooth button in address book and it asks for a passkey any help?

If you export your contacts either as individual VCards or one large VCard, these files are in an editable text format. With an editor like TextEdit, you can quite easily edit the foreign addresses to use something other than the default address format (US, in your case).

"Address Book" now "Adressbog" after 10.4.5 combo update!

I'm in the USA.
For some reason after using 10.4.5 combo updater my Address Book is now in a foreign language. I think it's a Scandinavian language. The Address Book is now called Adressbog and all the menus are in a foreign language.
Any ideas what happened?

G4 QuickSilver Mac OS X (10.4.5)I have a a similar problem. I have gone from French to Swedish (?) Chinese briefly, and back to Swedish (?) I have tried changing my language preference, but seem to have lost English and have a lot others that I don't understand. Try clicking on Applications in the hard drive then address book then get info (or hit the key with the apple on it and the letter i) you should get Address book info and at the bottom is languages if English is checked that is a good thing. I don't even have it on my imac just my ibook. anyway next under the apple on the top right of your screen and then go to preferences then over to international and click on it and you should have a choice of languages. drag English to the top and you should be okay. If either of these don't work you'll be in the same boat as me. I two people working on my problem now. So let me know if you aren't fixed. S.

Problems sync'ing Address Book and iPod (5th)
I sync my ipod address book (with iTunes and Address Book) but not every contact get sync'ed! Sometimes I change a contact picture or add a phone number and the updated version doesn't seem to show up on my ipod... It happens with several contacts on different occasions... Even if i delete those contact and create new ones from scratch.
Also, when I add a second phone number and set this number as "Home" (like for a Summer house), this number replace the first (home) number on my iPod. When I set this new number to be "Other", it just doesn't show up on my iPod. The only way I can make it visible on my iPod is to set it as "Work" (if I don't have a phone number set up as "Work" for that contact already). Pretty annoying...
Finally, some phone number are set up as xxx-xxx-xxxx (my default address format in AB) and some shows up as (xxx) xxx-xxxx even if everything looks fine in AB (phone numbers' label, contact's picture, address format...)

maybe isync (or hotsync) has something to do with it (since i've never sync'ed with .Mac)

Address book .... importing text file
I am designing an address book which opens a text file called AddressBook.txt which reads in the information in the following format:
lastname,firstname,street,city,state,zip,phonenumber,birthday,persontype
lastname2,firstname2,street2,city2,state2,zip2,phonenumber2,birthday2,persontype2
etc. (with a maximum entries of 500)
I am having a problem reading in the information without the commas and wrapping to the next line. I can either use the BufferedReader or Scanner to input the file and as you can see below, my code is not complete yet. I can't figure out how to code the storeAddress() method in order to get the addressBookEntries[] to include the necessary information for outputting, sorting, etc. If I can get the information read into the addressBookEntries[], I think I will probably be able to proceed in the rest of the required tasks (i.e. sorting by last name, searching by last name, etc.)

Can different family member accounts share an address book in iCloud?
we have a primary mobileme account which is now set up in icloud. we have a family pack with a secondary family member account set up for my wife's business email. This secondary account now also has its own icloud account that we set up. Works fine. The question is this - when my wife is logged in to her icloud secondary account and looking at her work-related emails, how can she access the addresses in the address book that is linked to the main icloud account? She is usually working from a PC so it's not a matter of just looking at the local copy of the address book. She needs to log out of the secondary icloud account, log in to the primary, look up the address, and then go back to the secondary account to send the email from her work email address. Too cumbersome. And icloud does not seem to like having two instances of icloud running at the same time on the same computer.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

How can I add an e-mail address to my address book from an e-mail?
Someone sends me an e-mail and I do not have their e-mail in my Thunderbird address book. Is there a way to enter their information into my address book without having to retype it all into my address book. In other e-mail programs that I have used, all I needed to do was click on the message and then click on a drop-down menu item that would simply copy all of the contact information into a new address book entry. Is it possible to do that in Thunderbird?
When viewing a message in a tab or the message pane there is a star to the right of the senders address. If the star is filled with color the address is already in one of your address books. If the star is not filled, click the star to add them. Click the star a second time to open the edit dialog box to add more details to the contact.
This is not the same star that is to the left of the message header when viewing the inbox. -
Is there a way of persuading iCloud to sync the smart groups I have in address book on my Mac
I have a small number of smart groups in address book on my iMac. but these do not sync through iCloud to my Macbook or iPod touch. Everythin else syncs even ordinary groups, but not the smart groups. Is there a way of persuading iCloud to do it? I can fully sync my Macbook contacts by exporting an archive from the iMac and then comying and importing this to the Macbook. But this is old technology.

Some of the birthdays I have entered in Address book appear in my Ical one day and one year earlier than the date I have given. Eg. I have entered a birthday in Address book as 23 March 2011 and it appears in Ical as being on 22 March 2010. Other names have no problems. There are only some that do not appear with the correct date and year. Why is this? Has anyone found how to correct this strange problem? I have Time Zones ticked.
Bronze2011I'm having this exact same problem, but it's doing it with a bunch of birthdays. I also did 0001 when I didn't know the birth year, so I went back and did a more current year, but they still aren't showing up where they should be...or at all. It's completely bizarre.

I have recently upgraded to Snow Leopard, but notice in Address Book that prefixes(Mr, Mrs etc) do not appear in the list view, but do on the card. In Leopard the prefixes appear in both views. Is this just a fault in the program, or can it be rectified?
I'm going to bump this up - I, too have this problem/question. Any suggestions?

Why is the Boot Disc Selection screen always appearing?
