Address book - labels layout - other formats

Hello Forum
Does anyone know of a collection of other layouts for the address book label layouts. At the moment I only see Avery std, Avery A4 and DYMO.
There's a whole set of labels of other label makers eg DECAdry that I don't find in the list. Nor do I know of (or find) a site that maps DECAdry on Avery equivalents.
I can of course simply add it as custom layout but I was wondering if there were other alternatives?

  • Address Book Label Layout

I'm using mail to print address labels. Several addressees are couples with different last names. If I list one of the couple as a spouse or partner in my address book, the program will list both names on the first line of the label. However, it's inconsistent, doing it with some couples entries and not others. I don't see any difference in the individual entries to explain the different layout. Has anybody had this experience?

I found the solution in the "spouse" thread. Thomas Corper said," Select "print", then go to "LABEL" tab. Once in there, change "addresses:all" to your distribution list. It gets rid of all the other names you have and just includes the title name."

  • UNBELIEVABLE ADDRESS BOOK label printing still archaic

Unreal. Address book label printing is a joke. So they still have not looked at the several phonecalls with suggestions i left with techsupport in regards to the fact that you CANNOT change the position of the label you want an address printed on, therefore wasting a whole avery sheet for just one label everytime you print. What a way to save the environment Apple. Think different.

Yes, this is incredibly silly. Drives me nuts everytime I want to print a label, so I do it in Word. Dumb.

  • Address Book Labels

Anyone know why it is that having imported all my contacts from Palm Desktop, address book labels all the email addresses as either "work", "home", or "other"?
Surely "email" would be more appropriate...
And can I do anything about it, other than manually change all 375 contacts?
    Thanks,
    Mark

  • Another Address Book label question

Is there a way in the address book label printing to select the position of one label to be printed on, let's say, a 30 label sheet of Avery standard? Many times I just want to print one address label but have a sheet of labels that have several labels missing. I want to be able to select the start position as to where the label is printed, otherwise it always wants to print in the first row, first label and I have to use a brand new sheet of label paper so use up the 2 #1 postions. (Turn it upside down)
    Thanks,
    Glen

    Hello:
Unfortunately Address Book only prints a contact name or a company name on a label. Hopefully this will change in a future version.

  • Address book report in table format

I would like to print an address book for my planner in a table format. I can not get address book to print the information I want in a table (2 columns with several rows, dependent upon the paper size - 1/2 sheet). I have created a data base, and tried the reports, but I get one card per page instead of in a table format of several cards per page. More specifically, what I want is name, address, and general info in one columnn, and phone numbers in the other column, with several individuals on one page.

    Hi bmj,
Welcome to Apple Discussions and the AppleWorks forum.
If your Address Book is an AppleWorks database, you've come to the right place, as this forum is for discussion of tips, techniques and issues with Apple's productivity application AppleWorks.
But if you are asking how produce this list using the Address Book application bundled with current iMacs and other current Macs, that's outside the scope of this forum.
I'm working on the assumption that you're using Appleworks.
[W]hat I want is name, address, and general info in one column, and phone numbers in the other column, with several individuals on one page.
The kicker here is going to be "General information." While each of the other pieces of information will take more or less the same amount of space in each record, the amount of "General information" will vary widely.
While AppleWorks DB screen layouts can handle this by expanding a field to show its contents when the insertion point is placed in the field, layouts for printing do not have this flexibility the amount of space you allocate for a field is fixed when you create (or edit) the layout, and every record gets the same amount of space, whether the data leaves a large white space or fills the space (with some data hidden because it's too large).
Given that restriction, you can set your layout up as either a Columnar report or as a Labels Layout. My preference would be the latter.
Before doing either, I'd suggest creating two new Calculation type fields: 'Fullname' and 'CSZ'
'Fullname' joins the contents of the 'First name' and 'Last name' fields with a space between them using this formula:
    'First name'&" "&'Last name'
'CSZ' joins the contents of the fields 'City', 'State', and 'Zip' into a single line. Following USPS (and for my case, Canada Post) guidelines, it also converts all letters in this line to capitals, and puts two spaces to left and right of the two letter State (or Province) postal symbol. Data in the field 'State' must be the two letter symbol, not the full state name. Formula:
    UPPER('City'&" "&'State'&" "&'Zip')
These two formulas help clean up the layout of your list, and are also useful if you later decide to make mailing labels.
To create the printed address book using a labels layout, open your DB file, then go to Layout mode (go Layout > Layout).
Go Layout > New Layout (Note: NOT New Labels Layout)
Click the Labels radio button, leave the popup menu set to Custom, Click OK.
In the Labels Layout dialogue, set Labels across the page to 1 and width to the full width of the page (minus margins). These two items are not adjustable once set.
Increase the label height to 4 to give yourself some room to work in. (The height of each row of labels (ie. each 'card') can be adjusted at will.) Click OK.
In the next dialogue double click each of the following field names (in this order) to move the fields from the left column to the right column.
    'Fullname'
    'Address'
    'CSZ'
    'General information'
    'Phone'
    Click OK.
Your new layout will be created with the fields inserted onto it in a single column. Select the top four fields and resize them (width only) using the handles.
Select and resize the Phone field, then drag it to its new position in the second column.
Select and resize the General field to contain as much data as you expect to place there.
Drag the Body boundary up to a position just below the General field. The position of this boundary controls the height of each card/label and the amount of space between it and the next one down the page.
When the layout looks right, go Layout > Browse to view the results.
You can adjust the number of cards that appear on a page by adjusting the Body boundary to make each card take more or less vertical space. You may need to also adjust the size of the fields, particularly the 'General' field and the size of type used.

    Barry

  • Address book labels doubled?

I'm trying to print some labels from Address Book and I noticed that most addresses are doubled.  I have a suspicion it has something to do with iCloud.  My Address book has iCloud as a header for my groups.  I have selected the group I wish to print labels for with 151 records.  When I check out the print setup it says I have 263 address records to print.  When I look closely at the print preview I see that there are two of most of my addresses.  When I look back in my address book I do not see any duplicates.  What I can I do to remove the duplicates from my labels?

I've just noticed the same phenomenon, despite not having mobile me or iCloud. I'm using 10.6.8. When i start an old mac using 10.5.8 everything functions correctly. I have 23 adresses to print and the final amount being printed has risen to 34 due to some being duplicated.
Have just sortrd my problem. I chose Menu>Card>Look For Duplicates  and ran the merge option. I had to do this about 10 times. I closed and restarted Address Book at one point. Eventually, no more duplicates were found by the routine and hey presto, no more duplicate labels!
    Hope this helps.

  • Address book labels Question

In the address book: I'M trying to print avery labels with both company name contact name above the address any way this can be done?
    powerPC G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I don't have the answer, but I want to go on record as having the same problem. I've tried everything to eliminate the selected image, but I can't figure out how to do so. I would happily edit a plist file if someone knew where this was stored. Thanks!

  • Address Book label field selection

Hi there. I have OS Lion. In Address Book I store Prefix, Forename and Surname. But on the mailing label want to just print the Prefix and Surname. Can't find a way to edit the field selection for the label!!!! Any help much appreciated.

That "*do not* first click on EDIT" hint from you, Michael, will save me much future misery. THANK YOU! How nice it would be if Apple fixed the problem. It could be as simple as allowing multiple undo's. If you catch your mistake on the first keystroke, you're okay. That second keystroke is the big problem. I use "notes" in Address Book to store all kinds of information: passwords, phone conversation histories, order confirmation numbers, just to name a few. Even using care I've lost data. And I kick myself for having known better. Now I'll only click EDIT when I'm entering data "above the line."

  • Personal Address Book in clients other than Outlook ( e.g. Thunderbird )

Does anybody know what the latest is on PAB integration in Thunderbird. This is a big turn-off for using JES. I am looking at the JCS for two reasons 1.) as an alternative to Ms proprietary lock-in and 2.) for an more open platform to integrate a some of our own software. It's quite frustrating that Sun are supporting Outlook almost exclusively. Convergence is great, but not a replacement for a thick email client. I really like Thunderbird but I can't access personal address books.
Any links for how to add a shared address book in Thunderbird? I'm sure I managed to sync at least the corporate address book when I reviewed JCS 5, but i can't remember and can't find a how to.
I have even considered writing a Thunderbird addon myself to access Address Books using ldap but it seems the PAB entries are locked by Directory Manager access and not available to the PAB user. Is there anywhere else to locate the PAB entries other than at "dn=piPStoreOwner=euan,o=potensol.com,o=PiServerDb" ?

A major limitation to any development of LDAP PAB integration is the lack of LDAP write support in Thunderbird. Any future movement will be more towards CardDAV as per:

It's quite frustrating that Sun are supporting Outlook almost exclusively.Sun is expending a large amount of resources (staff) into the Lightning project which is providing calendar functionality into Thunderbird. That is why there has been so much progress on this front over the past 12 - 18 months. Sun has also rolled Lightning out internally giving it even higher visibility.

I'm sure this group would appreciate any feedback, testing etc. that you could provide.

I'm sure I managed to sync at least the corporate address book when I reviewed JCS 5, but i can't remember and can't find a how to.Accessing the read-only corporate address-book should be relatively straight-forward. A quick google shows up a number of examples e.g.

Is there anywhere else to locate the PAB entries other than at "dn=piPStoreOwner=euan,o=potensol.com,o=PiServerDb" ?The other way would be to access the data using the WAPB protocol to the Convergence/UWC installation which is what Outlook Connector uses to access the address-book information. Unfortunately this protocol isn't yet publicly available. Feel free to push this with your Sun Account Manager.Regards,
Shane.Thank's Shane, your responses are always thorough and very helpful. Thanks for the link for LDAP shared address books in Thunderbird, I think that was the very article I used last time, should have bookmarked it.
I think it was harsh to say "It's quite frustrating that Sun are supporting Outlook almost exclusively.", I didn't realise they had involvement on the lightning project. Since my orignal post I have managed to install the plugin (v 0.8) and connect to my calendars. For feedback, so far it looks awesome, I was so impressed to see my tasks I added in convergence, in Thunderbird. I do recommend a 'how to' guide on Sun's website explaining exactly how to connect to it (couldn't find one myself from google). The 'how to' on mozilla's site forgets to mention that port must be specified (if it's not port 80, I use single-host deployment). Yet to try the experimental caching feature, will give feedback on that another time.
Will check out CardDAV shortly, thanks for link.
Overall, I am really happy with the JCS. If PAB and shared address book read/write/cache are implemented in Thunderbird/Evolution/Outlook then it would be the perfect comms suite. Servers seems to run really well although I have not put any real load on them yet. :-)

  • Q: I pasted my photo in address book. Do others see it with my email?

In other words, when I look at emails I send or have sent, i see the pictures in my address book that are related to the people i am sending the emails to. I don't care about that, but I set up address book that way so that I see the people's pics on my iPhone when they call. My question is, do others see my picture when they get my mail or is this just being seen within my own Mail interface?

no, this picture is for local use only. It's not sent out with your emails.

  • V card for address book? anything underway? need to attach contact info from address book to email, other than my own data.

Outlook had this nice feature allowing v card attachment for any contact in the address book to be attached to outgoing email. Will Thunderbird ever have something equivalent? Currently using Select Address book Text add on but still not V Card attach simplicity.

There is an addon which can help.

Download file to desktop or downloads file.
    In Thunderbird
    Tools > Addons
    or
    Menu icon > addons
click on gear wheel icon and select 'Install addon from file'
locate the file you downloaded and click on Open
You will need to restart Thunderbird at prompt.
    In 'Address Book'
right click on contact in list and select 'Send as vcard'.
If you want to add more than one vcard:
Press Ctrl key and select contacts to highlight, then right click on highlighted contacts and select Send as vcard'.
This opens a new Write message with that contact(s) added as vcard attachment(s).
There is also the option from the 'Contacts Sidebar' in a new Write window, but I'm not having any success from this method at this moment...maybe it will work for others...perhaps due to a bug, but I've reported it the author. At least it still works via Address Book.

  • Address Book label printing incorrect

I am getting spouse & child details printing on some address labels in one group and on all labels in another group. These fields are not supposed to be there at all.
'(Title, first name, surname) and (spouse/child fields)'
What can be done to correct this?
    I'm using Avery A4 J8157 stock.

Hi All, it's Christmas time again and I'm having the same problem - random family additions to the contact name, and it didn't happen last year. My ugly work-around is to invoke the Maiden Name field and cut and paste all the family contacts into there. At least the names don't get forgotten and it sorts out the label problem.
Like others, the fact that Apple doesn't have the decency to acknowledge a problem so we all know where we are, makes me seethe. Who are we anyway? Just a bunch of idiot customers? I'll send an email to Steve Jobs, but the chances of a reply are those of a snowball in Hades.

  • Address Book Label Prinitng woe's

How can i print my Me card's address all over an Avery sheet. Last time i tried to do it it just worked. Today i can only get one label top left. I have done this before without thinking about it. What has happened since my recent system reinstall.
This is actually quite urgent as i will look a fool by the end of the week if i cant get these labels run off.

    Hi:
Create a new group and put your card in the group. Then duplicate your card with Cmd-C and Cmd-V to copy and paste. Make enough copies of your card to fill a sheet of labels, then print the group.
