I haven't experienced that, but since upgrading to Leopard, my wife and I are experiencing an issue where the cursor tends to jump around while you're working on a card. Well, that's not exactly right.... say I've selected John Smith in the list and his name is somewhere in the middle of the viewable names on the list. Address Book will keep him highlighted but, without warning, spontaneously scroll him down to the bottom of the viewable names in the list. It's distracting and it also resets the cursor from the place where I was editing - as though I was the one who selected his movement.
Other instances have had the address list totally reset, instantly scrolling to the top of the list and highlighting the first name on the list, cutting me off mid-edit of another card. Has anyone else had this issue? I think it may have something to do with address book sharing - it feels like a refresh cycle or something.

  • Importing Netscape's address book into Apple's Address Book application

I want to import my email Netscape email address book into Apple's Address Book application. So I open the Address Book application and select import from the pull down menu. That brings up three choices, vCards, LDIF and Text. I previously had saved my Netscape address book as a pdf file. So I selected, Text. A window appeared from which I was to select where I wanted to get the file from. I made selections until I got to where my pdf file was and selected it. But I got the following error message.
The file you selected does not appear to be a valid comma separated values (csv) file nor a valid tab delimited file, please choose another file.
So I tried again and this time I selected LDIF, but when the file in my Netscape Users Profile that would appear to be my address book came up, it was “greyed out” and I could not select it. The file had the name “abook.mab”. It is not an LDIF file. There are no LDIF files in my profile.
So I tried selecting vCards, but I got the exact same results as above. The file that looks like it is my address book, is grayed out and cannot be selected.
So I went into Netscape to see if I could export my address book into Apple’s Address Book. I chose export from the Netscape menu and a window opened asking me to select where I wanted to export the file to. But when I got to Apple’s Address Book application, it was greyed out and could not be selected. The same thing happened when I tried to select Apple’s Mail program.
I have about three hundred email addresses in my Netscape address book. If these addresses have to be manually entered into Apple's Address Book, I will not make the switch to Apple's Mail program.

Netscape's Address Book window does not have that option. The Export option is under the Tools menu, but does not give you any options in the Tools menu. Once you select Export, the Export Address Book window opens. This window does have a format option where you can select either LDIF, Comma Separated or Tab Delimited. But it doesn't matter which of those I select, Apple's Address Book and Mail applications are not available for selection.

  • Can you rename the Personal Address Book and the Collected Address Book?

I would like to rename my Personal Address Book and my Collected Address Book for aesthetic reasons - is it possible and how do you do it?

You can rename them but it is not recommended. What purpose is served by renaming the default books? You can create new books and name them anything you like.

  • How to transfer Mac Address Book to Comcast email Address Book?

I recently upgraded from a dialup modem to Comcast Cable high speed internet. Previously, I used aol for email and wanted to change to Comcast email. I used the aol Service Assistant to successfully transfer my aol address book into my Mac Address Book. But now, I can't find a way to transfer the Mac Address Book to Comcast. I loaded Outlook Express and tried to transfer the Mac AB , but it is not a text file, so I was unable to transfer. Comcast supports Outlook Express and they have an import protocol. How can I save the Mac Address Book as a text file and then transfer to Outlook Express? Any suggestions to avoid rekeying the entire address book would be appreciated.

    Hello Dennis.
If you are wanting to transfer your Address Book contacts to Comcast's server stored address when accessing your Comcast email account via webmail with a browser, you don't need Outlook Express to do so.
You can use a utility called Address Book Exporter which exports your Mac OS X Address Book contacts as a tab-delimited plain text file which should work for importing all contacts to Comcast's server stored address book.

  • Synching desktop Address Book with my .Mac Address Book. Is it possible?

Can i sync my desktop address book with my .Mac address book?
    Thanks.

I am also having this problem with my address book synching to .Mac. But my calendar and bookmarks have appeared with no problem so I'm not doing anything wrong -and I haven't created custom profiles either. Do you really think this is due to the lead up to Mobile Me? If so, why did the bookmarks etc sync with no problem? It is frustrating because this is what I really need to access.

  • Can I merge my iPhone address book with my iMac address book? I do not want to replace one for the other, just combine.

Can I merge my iPhone address book with my iMac address book? I do not want to replace one for the other, just combine them.
It seems that you have to choose one or the other, keep iMAcc addresses or iPhone.

Indeed you can merge the address book using iCloud. You can find the info here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3998. I am not sure if you can de-duplicate though.
If that doesn't work or you want more out of your address book, you can always try connex.io (I work for the company). It's a service that automatically syncs, deduplicates, cleans and updates your address book across many different devices and services. If you want to try it out, you can get a free trail version at www.connex.io.
    Good luck!
I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link.

  • Personal address book to a sub address book .. it will no longer work, are there any issues?

Hello .. in my personal address book - I can no longer drag a name from personal address book to a sub address list/book .. it will no longer work, are there any known issues, please ?
    thank you in advance

I suspect that your Personal Address Book file is corrupted and won't save any changes. As a check, what happens if you double-click the List in question and add the new member by typing it in? And then if you close and reopen Thunderbird?

  • Address Book/iPhone Sync of custom fields

Why doesn't my iPod Touch (which is all set up to sync with my Mobile Me account) sync the custom fields that are set up in my Address Book?
They show up when I log onto Me.com and look in the Address Book from online. So I know that the Mobile Me "cloud" is accepting the custom fields. Why doesn't my iPod Touch sync them? All the other fields sync up just fine.

    Closely related question:
The "Related Names" field has always been available in the computer version of Address Book. (Spouse, Child, Assistant, Parent, etc.) This is a VERY useful field, and its absence in the iPhone version of the application is extremely annoying. In fact, it would be even more useful on the phone than on the computer. (e.g., I'm talking to someone and I can't remember his wife's name, so I pull out my iPhone to look this up -- AND IT'S NOT THERE BECAUSE THE FIELD IS NOT AVAILABLE ON THE iPHONE!) And as you mentioned, it's one of the fields that DO appear in the online cloud version of MobileMe Contacts.
I cannot imagine any valid reason for this not having been included. There are lots of similar fields that do appear on the iPhone that have multiple choices for the label (phone, email, etc. all provide a drop-down choice as to the label, just like the related names field).
So, Apple People if you are listening: Was this omission simply an unfortunate oversight? Are there any plans to fix this? I keep waiting for such an obvious omission to be fixed with each iPhone software update, but this has not happened.
Thanks for any wisdom on this!
    Steve

  • Address Book Smart Groups and Custom Fields

Anyone have issues syncing Smart Groups in Address Book? Seems like an awful waste of resources if we cannot keep that synced between MobileMe, our Mac/PC and iPhone.
Also, same issue with custom fields I've created for certain contacts. For example, I've created hours of operation for certain businesses. These fields sync into my contacts in MobileMe but it's not pushed to my iPhone. Again, such a waste to have information that cannot be maintained.

I have been advised by the .Mac team that Address Book Smart Groups cannot be synched between two (or more) computers using .Mac

  • Address book: cursor jumps to Note field

Sometimes when I'm entering data in Address Book, the cursor jumps to the Note field—I discover this when I look at the Address Book window and see that the data I thought I'd just entered in the Address field is in the Note field.
This does not happen consistently, but it sure is frustrating--any suggestions?

I haven't experienced that, but since upgrading to Leopard, my wife and I are experiencing an issue where the cursor tends to jump around while you're working on a card. • Using Address Book Exporter to move Address Book Contacts to Palm Desktop

I have had strangely mixed results using "Address Book Exporter" to create files that can be imported into Palm Desktop.
I really want to export all 1200 of my Address book cards to my new Treo 700P. Too complex?
I set up a new group in my Address Book and placed about 400 cards in it. I then used Address Book Exporter to export all of these records using template "Palm Desktop" onto a .txt file on my hard drive.
When I opened my Palm Desktop application and clicked on import, I first had to cause the dialogue box to show all files rather than just "readable files" in order for the exported files to be available. When I clicked on the file of 400 Address book cards that I had exported, I got the dialogue box similar to FileMaker where you have to line up the receiving fields in the Palm Desktop application with the fields in the file that Address Book Exporter created.
When I set the "fields" drop-down menu to "addresses" and set the "Delimiters" drop-down menu to "Palm Desktop", everything just lined up automatically. No futher adjustments were needed. I just clicked OK and the 400 records were transferred to my Palm Desktop Address list - ready to further transfer to my new Treo 700P - successfully.
But when I went through this exact same routine, instead exporting all of the cards in my Address book, when I got to the last step and set the two drop down menus - the "fields" drop-down menu to "addresses" and set the "Delimiters" drop-down menu to "Palm Desktop" - nothing happened. The fields in the exported file did not line up at all. The created export file I opened showed only one "superfield' with all the data in it (just as the earlier example had, at first) which would not change to all of the fields needed to line up with the Palm Desktop importing fields as had happened in the first example.
Why the two different reactions to what seems to be the same routines? Does Address Book Exporter have a cap on the size of the export it can handle?
    I just don't understand it.

  • "Related Names" Does Not Sync From Apple Address Book to iOS 4 Address Book

I keep a very detailed address book and have just realized that the "related names" field does not sync from my Mac to my iPhone.  Does anyone know if this is a limitation of the iTunes syncing and the software, or am I doing something wrong?  If this is a limitation, does anyone know a work around?  This is important information for me to have on the go.

Oops -- I just had to turn iCloud on in the System settings on the iPhone, then the Contacts synched.

  • Syncing Address Book on Mac and Address Book on .Mac

As I sit here my computer is syncing away between the address book on my iMac and the address book / contacts on my .Mac and it will keep whirring away to no avail, because no matter what I do I cannot get the two address books to reflect the same addresses. I have tried and tried. I've made sure to turn on the syncing in the .Mac field in the System Preferences .Mac pane , and also in Address Book, and also in .Mac and it simply will not work.
What ends up happening is that the contacts on .Mac continue to reflect a list that I had weeks ago, and even if I delete all the contacts and then sync to the Address Book on my iMac, it just comes up with the old contacts list again !
So, what is going wrong ? I believe that I am doing all that is right at my end. That means that at the .Mac server end there must be something not working right, I believe. I see that a number of people are having the same problem from the various posts that I have read.
So, come on Apple / .Mac Get it sorted at your end and give us decent syncing. Please !
I'm using Address Book Version 4.0.4 (485.1) All other software is bang up to date. My .Mac membership is all paid up and active.

Not sure why syncing failed but you can do the following: download the free app My Contacts Backup and use it on your phone.  It will back up your contacts as an attachment to an email.  Send the email to yourself and open it on your mac.  Double-click the attachment and your mac should import the contacts into Address Book.
