Address book "List" no longer sends .. have screenshot to show error

I have been using "Lists" in my address book to send multiple emails. There must have been an update recently since I can no longer get the lists to work (any of them) and I get an error I have never seen before, nor understand what I can change to use my lists.
PS I don't see a place to attach the screenshot of the error, but it says Invalid Recipient Address. I am using version 31.1.0

The quick fix is to go back to v24.6. Otherwise browse through the other threads and see what has been posted. One that I remember is to remove any spaces in the name of your lists.
I have not upgraded to v31 yet. I never upgrade to new major versions until the bugs are worked out.

Only way I can figure is having double entries one with singular + some unique field, (maybe called Siri), then making a Smart group for one or both.

The way iCloud works is that it isn't actually 'syncing', though this is how it's often referred to. The data lives on the iCloud server and is read from there by the various devices (just like webmail). Therefore when you make a change on your iPhone you are actually changing the iCloud website (there is an internal procedure to allow you to make the changes while you are offline, and they are then changed on the site when you next connect).
Therefore any device whose changes appear on the iCloud site, and who can read changes on the site made by other devices, is working: and any device whose changes do not appear, and which cannot receive changes made by other devices which have appeared on the site, is failing to connect. This appears to be the issue with your Mac.
When this happens, sometimes signing out and in again resets the whole setup and corrects the problem. If another device such as your iPhone is connecting to the iCloud server correctly then nothing you do on it will affect your Mac. (In fact even if it isn't connecting it has no effect on your Mac, only on its own ability to transmit changes to the iCloud server).

  • Where is Address book Icon in Mail "send" toolbar

Installed Lion.  Could not find the "address book" icon in the send toobar.  It was in Leopard, however I cannot seem to find it in Lion.  Is it no longer available or am I just not looking in the right place?

I did find that Icon however if you are in the main menu for mail it IS there.  However if you hit New Message a new window comes up and that tool bar does not have the "man" icon.  I have to pull the window down some so I can see the main menu, then click on the "man" to get the address book.   I tried to pull the icon into the send window but it would not transfer.  Just seems awkward to me or maybe I am missing something.
The Address Book Icon was in the send window on Leopard as I recall.

  • One of my 2 address books can no longer be viewed, how do I access it?

''locking this thread as duplicate, please continue at [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1051908 /questions/1051908]''
one of my 2 address books can no longer be viewed, how do I access it? It disappeared within the last few days. I can still find addresses that are in the 2nd address book, but I cannot view it, so only 1/8 of my addresses are now viewable. How do I access the 2nd address book?

Hi ronc2, there isn't a specific setting for this. Firefox's built-in JavaScript settings allow you to control several aspects of scripts*, but unfortunately not this one.
I previously tried to find some other options for individually turning off this event, but I couldn't find a way. Someone might be able to create an add-on to solve this problem, but it will take someone cleverer than I.
Extensions that disable scripts on a site-specific basis:
    * If you regularly visit some sites which do this, you can block JavaScript on that specific site using the YesScript extension. Unfortunately, other script-based functionality will be blocked as well.
    * YesScript does not preemptively block scripts on every site. If you have to visit a lot of random sites and want to take a paranoid approach of having scripting blocked until you see as much of the site as you can see without running scripts, then the NoScript extension would be for you. But even then it's "all or nothing".
''* These include: JavaScript enabled yes/no, override right-click menu yes/no, change order of windows yes/no, move and resize windows yes/no, close windows yes/no, specific features of pop-up windows, change images yes/no, detect copy/cut/paste and modify selection yes/no.''

  • Address Book List Output to File

How can I output an Address Book printed contact list to a file (instead of to my printer) so that I can do further editing on the file in Pages? Alternatively, how can I input the PDF file into Pages which can be produced by the Address Book list print function?
    Thanks for your suggestions.

I think that Pages is the wrong choice.
I use a program called Address Book Importer which allows me to use CSV files that can be edited in Excel (or possibly Numbers)?
    See http://homepage.mac.com/sroy/addressbookimporter/
You will need to be very careful doing the external edits. I experienced a LOT of problems with delimiters (commas and semi-colons) in notes and business names. I had to strip ALL of the commas and semi-colons from the address book file in Excel before I could import back into Address Book.
Be SURE to back up the Address Book (File -> Export) so you can get it back if you have a disaster in the external editor. Be sure to do a test on the reimport to make sure the fields are lining up the way you want them.
BTW - PDF is a printer format, not a data base so it will not be possible to edit the PDF files as if it were a data base.
    Hope that helps.

  • HT2486 Address book will no longer sort when typing name

Address book will no longer sort names when you begin to type

Have you tried resetting your sort option in Address Book / Preferences? Change it from whatever you have it (e.g. First Name) to the other choice. Then try to Search a contact. If it works, then go back in and reset it to what you had it before.

How do I populate the address book when trying to send a photo(s) by email?

  • When I click on address book I no longer get the slot for inserting a name, instead a long list of names/addresses

I've been sending new emails (not replies) this way: Click on address book. Up comes space to insert a name. I do so, find the name (among a few close to it), highlight it and then click "write." This produces an addressed email, which I proceed to write and send. But as of a day ago, when I click on the address book, what appears is a long list of names and email addresses. It fills most of the iMac screen. And there's no space to insert a name.
Presumably I did something stupid to make that happen. What have I done? And how do I reverse it?
    Thank you.
    Arthur

This doesn't answer your question about what's gone wrong.
I think the Address Book is a rather lame place to start from.
Click on Write, or Reply or Forward and the messages writing window appears. prefilled with the previous message text if it's a reply or forward.
If you select the To: box and start typing, it will suggest names from the address book matching what you typed.
If you really prefer to pick from a list, you can open a Contacts Sidebar which lists one of your address books. There are buttons to add selected Contacts to your message. You can drag and drop and use right click too. On a PC, F9 opens this sidebar, or you can use alt+v to get the View menu and then choose the Contacts Sidebar from the sub-menu. I'm not sure how much of this works on the Mac.
So it's easy to add multiple addresses. You can set them as Cc or Bcc.
Your method lets you address a new message, but doesn't support reply or forwarding. It enters all addressees as To: and you have to change them one by one if that's not appropriate.
You see why I think the Address Book is bad place to start from?
If this other approach doesn't work then I'd suggest you have a corrupted Address Book. Do you have a recent backup to restore from?

  • How to send a message to an address book list as "bcc", not as "to"?

I have various lists of different people on my personal TB addressbook. If I press "write" (to a particular group), TB by default creates a message with all the recipients in "To" mode - i.e. all the recipients will see each other's email addresses. How do I change the default message setting to "bcc" without having to change every single entry in the email manually?

Do not start a message in the address book. It is not the best place to do that.
That is what the Write window is for. Open the Write window and turn on the contact sidebar by pressing F9.
Select the contact, contacts or list that you want to send to and then use one of the ADD TOO: buttons at the bottom of the sidebar.
Hold the control key while clicking items to select multiple items.

  • HT1351 My fifth generation nano will no longer sync my address book from my Mac. It gives me an error message that "You have no contacts" and asks me if I want to create some.  My address book is full of contacts. Sync works for everything else.

My 5th generation nano will no longer Sync my address book from my Mac.  It gives me a message that I have no "Contacts", and asks if I want to create some.  My address book is full of contacts, but for some reason it thinks it is empty.  All the other sync operations work fine including iCal.  My Mac is running OS X 10.7.4.

It sounds like all of your contacts on your Mac running Lion are actually stored up in iCloud.
Several users running Mac OS X Lion and now ML (and iCloud) have no longer been able to "sync" contacts over to their older iPods models.
A work around is to export all of your contacts out of Address Book as vCards and them copy these vCards into your iPod's Contacts folder.  You'll need to have the Enable Disk Use option ticked from under the iPod's Summary tab in order to browse out to the iPod's Contacts folder via the Finder.
Using your iPod as a storage drive
That's the only "solution" I have been able to use to get contacts to sync/appear on my 5G iPod Video.

  • Snow Leopard Mail Address Book does no longer sort names

    Hi,
I noticed that, after I installed Snow Leopard, the address book I access in Mail does no longer show entries sorted by last names although I set the the address book I access from the dock to do so and it works fine. I thought they're one and the same. How come there is this discrepancy and is there a way to resolve the issue?
    Best
    Frank

    Frank,
The Address Book application opened from the Dock responds to its preference setting for this sort. Quit Mail, and then confirm the sort you want to see in the AB application -- you can choose not only Last Name sort, but whether Last Name appears before First Name, as I am sure you know.
Now relaunch Mail, and when you access from Mail it should now have the same sort you selected in the AB app. Mail is apparently picking up the preference setting in the AB app at the time it launches, and does not change that until you have quit Mail, and then next relaunch it.

  • Address book list stopped working after upgrade today

After upgrading to ver 31.1.0 today, all my address book mailing lists stopped working for some reason.
It says it is not a valid e-mail address because it is not of the form user@host. How do I correct this problem?

I have new information about this.
It looks like it's [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1060901 this bug]. If you have an account on Bugzilla, it would help to vote for that issue.
It seems lists with a description that includes several words have this problem. The bug report suggests replacing the blanks " " between the words in such lists' descriptions with an underscore "_".
If you don't want to change your descriptions, [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1018299#answer-623437 the other workaround provided] still works.

  • Address book list used many times with mail merge, now all come back undeliverable - why?

I have about 140 email addresses in an address book, and I have sent emails using mail merge many times. Suddenly, this week, when I send out an email, I get all of them back marked undeliverable. Don't know why it suddenly won't send them. the only thing that looks odd is that in the "undeliverable" message, each email is given twice - example: [email protected]@gmail.com.
    Can anyone help? Thanks.

the mail merge add-on probably needs to be updated for the new version of Thunderbird as there have been behind the scenes changes in mail composition. I would suggest following the mail merge support process and emailing the author.
