Address Book, .Mac syncing, multiple users, groups, oh my!

So, I'm currently syncing my Address Book on my PowerBook to .Mac, and my wife's iMac is synced to that Address Book as well. She's currently been adding groups and contacts, some of which have overlapped with mine. I don't want these new ones.
I'd like to still be able to share my Address Book (I know I can do this somehow). I also have a WebDAV server which I use for iCal, but I don't think the Address Book uses this, and then delete her contacts (I'll have to just pick through carefully) off of my Address Book. I know I could set up a .Mac account for her as well, but this would be the only feature she'd be using, if she even knows that .
What are some steps to accomplish this (I know I can at least disable her syncing)? A great step-by-step would be so appreciated.
Thanks.

No one, huh?

  • Address Book-cellphone sync with specific group

    Hi
i have several groups in my addressbook and a razr(waiting for the iphone) and i synce only one group.
It syncs fine, but when i add a new phone in my cell and sync, it adds the new contact to the address book and not the specific group i indicated in isync.
is there anyway it can be added automatically to the group as specified in isync?
    thanks in advance.

Also, just been playing, when I go in through settings to Mail, Contacts, Calendars the phone again just returns to the home screen.

  • One address book library for multiple users on notebook

Good morning! I have been searching the forums but only find solutions if you are running OS X Server. I just bought a MacBook Pro running Leopard and my wife and I have separate accounts so we can keep our iTunes libraries, etc separate. I was able to successfully share an iPhoto library and now want to do that with Address Book. Any tips on how?

I am new to the Mac and looking for the same solution of sharing the address book without using a mobile me account nor any other type of server. I have been searching the forums and have not found a solution for a very simple problem.
Can anyone tell me how to share the address book so my wife and I see the same exact address book and both have permission to make changes?
iPhoto was easy to share by moving my iPhoto library to the "Shared" users folder. I allowed read and write access to the iPhoto Library for both users, but my wife's account does get an error when it tries to save. It mentions that some recent changes may be lost. I double checked and my wife's account does have read and write privileges.
Perhaps this is what eeperman meant by limited function.

  • "Smart Groups" in Address Book not syncing to the iPhone

"Smart Groups" in Address Book not syncing to the iPhone
Normal Groups sync but smart groups do not.
Anyone else have this issue or know of a fix?
    Thanks.

This same concept applies to syncing two macs via .Mac
The method I use for iPhone is this.
Define your smart group as needed.
Define a read group with a similar or convenient name.
From time to time drag your whole smart group to the real group.
The real group is the one that then syncs to your iPhone.
As a safety factor, I usually clear all entries from my real group before I drag over the updated smart group.
Anyway, this is simple and works well.
    Hope that helps.

  • How to bring in Address book to a New User I created on Mac

I had to create a new userid on my mac and I have an address book on the old userid. How can I bring in the new address book into the new user?
On the old user I exported the address book to the User\shared directory. Then I logged into the new user and tried to import. It doesn't import.
Both accounts are Admin. When I look at the address folder in User\shared, it has the red circle on the bottom of the folder. I can't bring it in. HELP

When I tried to bring in the file, a message says "Reverting will cause your current database to be overwritten".
When I click Replace All, nothing happens, my entries are not imported. I am not sure what to do next.

  • I cannot sync my MacBook Pro address book (Mac OS X Version 10.5.8) with my iPad that has iCloud. Please help.

I cannot sync my MacBook Pro address book (Mac OS X Version 10.5.8) with my iPad, that has iCloud. I can get my music and photos to sync, but not my address book or calendar. I have tried turning off iCloud, but that does not work. Please help.

You may install Snow Leopard OS, maximize the RAM to 8 GB and install a larger HDD, or spend a lot of money and install a SSD.

  • Suddenly ICal & Address Book stopped syncing with Outlook for Mac

2 days ago, ICal and Address Book stopped syncing with Outlook for Mac 2011.  I still have full functionality of Email in Outlook.
What is wrong and how can I fix it?

Any solution here yet? I have the same issue. After upgrading to Yosemite Outlook for mac kept requiring me to "rebuild identity database"
I did this many times so there were many new identities.
Finally I researched and found out that after the Yosemite update outlook would rebuild identity and once you do that there is a mismatch of your email account in outlook which just needs to be deleted and re-added to fix.
Now since then my outlook contacts and apple address book do not speak to each other.
If I make a new contact on my iphone and sync with my mac it will appear in apple address book.
If I make a new contact in outlook it will not appear on the iPhone.
So the phone is communicating and syncing with apple address book but wherever the apple address book goes to find the outlook contacts it must be using one of the older "identities"
Also now when I am in outlook and go from email to contacts it takes about 20 seconds to open the 5,300 contacts and it used to be instant.
Is there a way to view where outlook is getting the data? When I go into Outlook Preferences, Sync Services, "On My Computer:" is the one that is chosen so that should be good.
    Any help?

  • Subscribed address book not synced to iPhone

I shared my address book with my wife, and she subscribes to it. Unfortunately, the shared contacts do not make it to her iPhone during a sync. Any Ideas why?
Also, what's the difference between subscribing to a mac address book and syncing using mobileme?
    Thanks!

I also have this issue. My contacts sync fine from the computer to Mobileme, but the groups don't sync to the iphone. This leaves me with an empty "Groups" window as described by eltons. If I sync through itunes, with Mobileme contacts sync off on the iphone, the groups show up.
Any ideas? Is this consistent with the original post?

  • Custom image from Address book not syncing to Exchange.

I am running Mac OS X v 10.7.5. I have added custom images to contacts in address book. I have an Exchange account which will sync the data (ie name, address, email) but not the custom image. Is there away to have custom images sync to Exchange/Outlook?

  • Address Book/Gmail sync

Is it possible to sync my Gmail contacts with my Address Book? I do not have an iPhone or iPod Touch. Thank you!

Looking for a solution to this too!
I keep my iPhone contacts & Apple Address Book in sync through iTunes & recently thought of keeping my Gmail contacts in sync with the Apple Address Book as well. Researching online showed this is pretty much a dead end in terms of a simple sync for the user but since I use my iPhone & Apple Address Book to mainly control & edit my contacts, every now & then I just create a backup of 'vcards' with the date of that day & import them as a new group to Gmail. This new group will say something to the extent of 'Apple Address Book Jul-28-2010'.
I don't make changes to my Gmail contacts but constantly delete the old Apple Address Book 'group' & keep only the latest one. That way all changes are brought upon my Gmail contacts as well. Even though there might be duplicates, it's easy to sort out cause you know which ones came from your Apple Address Book.
Definitely not the most ideal solution but works for now...

This doesnt seem normal at all. I have disabled the syncing of all contacts in iCloud prefs but it still persists. Surely if such a process reccurs every 30 seconds it has an effect?
Anyone got any ideas or have experience with this? Seems like Mavericks isn't so great at power saving afterall!

Please test after taking each of the following steps.
    Step 1
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.AddressBookSourceSync
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash.
Log out, log back in, and test. If there's no change, go to the next step.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 2
If you use iCloud, uncheck the box marked Contacts in the iCloud preference pane. Press return to confirm, or click Keep on Mac in the dialog that opens.
    Step 3
From the list of groups on the left side of the Contacts window, select All On My Mac. If that group doesn't exist or is empty, skip this step. Otherwise, from the menu bar, select
File ▹ Export ▹ Export vCard
Save the exported contacts to the Desktop.
    Step 4
Quit Contacts. Reveal the following item in the Finder as you did in Step 1:
    ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook
Move the selected folder to the Desktop, leaving the window open for now.
    Step 5
Launch Contacts. Your contacts will be gone. If you took Step 3, then double-click the file you created in that step and confirm that you want to import from it. Your contacts will reappear.
    Step 6
If you took Step 2, reverse it. Test. If the issue is resolved, delete the AddressBook folder and the vCard file on the Desktop and close the open folder window.
Otherwise, quit Contacts again and put the AddressBook folder back where it was, overwriting the newer one that will have been created in its place. Post your results.
