Address Book/Mail won't delete email address

I use several address groups in Address Book. I recently changed the email address for one of the recipients in a group after he changed internet servers. Although he does receive emails addressed to his new email address when I use the Address Group, Mail continues to also send emails to him at his old email address, which then bounce back as undeliverable.
I deleted all references to his old address in Mail (in the Previous Recipients pane under Window, and I deleted his vCard from Address Book and made up a new one for him with his new address, but emails are still being sent to his old address. When I highlight the Address Group in the "To" line in an outgoing email, only his new address show. Is there some other place that old addresses are retained in Mail or Address Book that I need to check?

Hi Bob,
Are you sure the problem is on your side and not theirs? Maybe he has his new email set up to forward to emails to his old address (for whatever reason) and it is those bounce responses you are receiving?
If that's not the case, try posting over in the [Mail & Address Book - Tiger |http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=753] forum - this is the Safari web browser forum
Good luck!

  • TS3276 Mac Mail won't send emails with signatures

My Mac Mail won't send emails with signatures. I get the "whoosh" sound and they show in sent mail, but the recipient doesn't receive them until I take off the signature and resend the email. Without a signature, it is received. It never used to be a problem, but started this past month. Please advise!

Did Earthlink have you try using their authenticated SMTP server?
If not, try changing Earthlink's SMTP server settings to the following:
    SMTP Server: smtpauth.earthlink.net
Server Port: 25 or 587. Assuming Earthlink is your ISP, 25 should work.
Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL): Off or not selected.
Authentication Type: MD5 Challenge-Response. Not sure if this authentication type is available with 10.2 and if not, select Password.
User Name: Your entire Earthlink email address.
Password: The password for your Earthlink email account - the same password used to check the incoming mail server for new messages.

  • Mail won't Check emails

All of the sudden, and for no apparent reason, MAIL won't check emails.  It says that it does, it turns the wheel, but nothing comes through and it reads UPDATED YESTERDAY.   it has been like this for six hours, both on 3G and wifi.  Any Ideas! it is a 5s iPhone running on 8.0.2.   Thank you!

    Hey Tif,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing issues with mail on your iPhone. The following article may help to resolve your issue:
    iOS: Troubleshooting Mail
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3899
Try these basic troubleshooting steps first
    1. Tap Safari and attempt to load a webpage (try any webpage). If you can load a webpage, then your device has Internet access. If you are unable to load a webpage, follow these troubleshooting steps.
              - Try to use an alternate Internet connection if available:
                        1. Try a different Wi-Fi connection
                        2. If your iOS device has an active cellular data plan, tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn off Wi-Fi.
                        3. If the affected email account is provided by your Internet provider, see if your issue is resolved while connected to your home Wi-Fi network.*
    2. Log in to your email provider's website to ensure that the account is active and the password is correct.
    3. Restart your iOS device.
    4. Delete the affected email account from your device.
              - Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
              - Choose the affected email account, then tap Delete Account.
              - Add your account again.
    * If you are only able to use your email account while connected to your home network, this may be a limitation put in place by your email service provider. For further support, please contact your email service provider directly.

  • Running Windows 8.1 and Thunderbird, but Tbird regularly goes "Not Rresponding; particularly when I try to delete something. All Mail won't delete at all.

'''bold text'''Thunderbird crashes regularly when I try to delete email. ALL MAIL doesn't work at all and won't allow me to delete anything. I have gone to Properties many times and tried to repair ALL MAIL but it doesn't work.
I was also unable to open and read any of your responses to previous questions that appear to be similar.
I like many of the features of Thunderbird but am about ready to give up. Help, please.

Is Thunderbird really crashing when you try to delete mail, or is it not responding?
''All Mail won't delete at all.''
    What exactly does this mean?
Are you talking about Gmail? If so, do you have any clue what 'All Mail' is, and why it's a bad idea to delete something from 'All Mail'?

  • Mail using a deleted email address.

Mail is periodically sending emails from an old email address. I have deleted the account a year ago and it just started to do this last week. help

I have just tried this, but having opened Mail first, then Time Machine, instead of getting the usual Time Machine space view with the long row of windows and the scroll/Date Index on the right, the long buttons at the bottom of the screen showing the date and the restore button on the right, i get the following:
Mail window shrinks down from normal size to centred on desktop ~ and thats it!
Just the one window, nothing else. It momentarily says "Click `restore To Recover Your Inbox"
    then disappears.
No restore button of any kind, and of course no dates to scroll through because no other windows are present or scroll/date index.
    Am i doing something wrong?
I am running OS X 10.5.8 on MacBook pro (Unibody)

  • Mail 5.3 won't delete emails

I have been using Mail for years with no problem but all of the sudden it will no longer delete emails. My kids sometimes use my laptop so maybe someone acidentaly changed a setting but I am at my wits end here.
I have 3 email accounts gmail, comcast, icloud
When I delete an email it disapears - BUT - then it magically reappears in Mail.
When I delete emails they also do not go into the trash folders.
I am having to log on individually to all three email accounts and delete messages from their interface. Total waste of my time.
I have looked at the settings in preferences - behaviors and I have checked "Move deleted messages to the trash mailbox" I did not check "Store deleted messages" I selected permanetly erase deleted messages when "one week old".
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks - Jennyrae4

Back up all data. Rebuild the mailbox. Try to delete the messages again.

  • Mail won't delete messages from Iphone unless I open Mail.

I have an Exchange account set up and use MS Outlook at work.  I do receive my email via push on my Iphone 4s.  However, when I delete a message from my MS Outlook at work, it won't delete from my Iphone UNLESS I open up Mail.  Anyone else have this issue?
I did change the setting of pushing my delete items folder in the mail settings on my Iphone.  Still did nothing.

    Mel,
One more thing to check on your computer...iCal>Preferences...>Accounts>Account Information>iCloud>Refresh Calendars:>Push
If that is not helpful, go through the procedures listed in iCloud: Troubleshooting iCloud Calendar.

    Hello Farrel Hubbard,
You can find information to resolve the AOL account not deleting messages in Nathan C's post in this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1799112&tstart=0
To add to Nathan's information, here is some additional information that may help:
    Go to Settings
    Choose Mail, Contacts and Calendars
    Select your AOL account
Select Advanced in the account settings
Select the "On my iPhone" entry next to Deleted Mailbox
In the next page you may see that Trash is already checked.
    Tap on Trash.
Tap the Home button (or you can back out of the settings)
This will take you back to the home screen - at this point you should once again be able to delete messages in the AOL account.
The steps above have worked on my own AOL account as well as two others here as well.

  • Upgraded Panther to Tiger: now Mail won't download email from Sympatico

    Hi there,
If someone wouldn't mind advising... I just ugraded my wife's powerbook from Panther to Tiger (10.4.9)... and even though her email settings are still the same (incoming server, outgoing server, etc.), Mail won't collect her email from the Sympatico site.
Do I have to get rid of her Mail prefs and re-boot? Or something? (if it's the former, which prefs exactly, and where are they?).
    thanks,
    Malcolm

You can always delete your account from Mail and re-create it... There are 2 kinds of account settings for a Sympatico account:
The "old ones" that have the same settings since Sympatico started 10 years ago:
    Username: b1**##
    Password: access password
    Incoming mail (POP3): pop6.sympatico.ca
    Outgoing mail (SMTP): smtp1.sympatico.ca
Port server 25 for Outgoing (SMTP)
Port server 110 for Incoming (POP3)
The other Sympatico e-mail is the enhance one with MSN. The settings are differents and the authentification is different. Any new Sympatico accounts since June 2004 are on that new plaform:
    Username: [email protected]
    Password: e-mail password
    Incoming mail (POP3): pophm.sympatico.ca
    Outgoing mail (SMTP): smtphm.sympatico.ca
    Verify that your server is set to requires anthentiation with agin your Sympatico e-mail and Sympatico password;
Both servers, Outgoing and Incoming, require a secure connection (SSL)
If you are not sure witch is what try to login online at: http://www.sympaticomail.sympatico.ca it will tell you if can upgrade to new enhance e-mail or if you sign in like a Hotmail account if you are already enhance.
    I hope this help....
    Cheers

  • Mac Mail keeps moving deleted emails back into inbox

How to stop Mail from moving deleted messages back to inbox?

I've had the same problem for several months. I can't archive emails to the archive folder. They keep moving back into the inbox. I have to keep moving them several times before they stay put.

  • Duplicate messages - mail won't delete

I'm not sure if this is a mail problem only or if there is something else going on but I'll start here. I've got several messages in triplicate that won't delete from my POP account (the same problem occurs for single messages also). Messages appear to delete from "inbox", "trash" and "junk" but reappear when mail is reopened.
I'm also having the same problem with itunes, I delete my library but when itunes is reopened songs in my library reappear. I have also tried to print my itunes library but get the message "The itunes library file cannot be saved. The disk you are attempting to use is full". When attempting to print from my X-Pad I get the message "Error while printing". Also another odd thing I've noticed is that my desktop "clock/calender" disappears after startup, I have to keep putting it back on. So far these are the only problems that I've noticed, these problems just occured yesterday.
Help would be greatly appreciated, Thankyou

Are you sure your hard drive has only a 10GB capacity?
Select your hard drive and use Get Info via the Finder. This will provide Capacity and Available information.
If you have only a 10GB capacity hard drive (which is actually slightly less than advertised capacity which is the same for all hard drives), this is likely the cause of your problems.
OS X makes generous use of Paging or Virtual Memory which uses available free hard drive space when utilized. I regularly use anywhere from 6-9GB of virtual memory without a lot of processor intense activity and I have 1GB of RAM.
See Problems from insufficient RAM and free hard disk space.
A 10GB hard drive capacity may have been adequate for OS 9 but it isn't adequate for OS X unless you install OS X and applications only and store all data on an external hard drive.
If you have a 10GB hard drive capacity, you should seriously consider purchasing a much larger hard drive if you plan on using this Mac for a while longer.

  • Mail won't delete

Since upgrading to Leopard my mail will not delete from my imap aol account. I get the following message
The IMAP command “UID COPY” (to Deleted Messages) failed for the mailbox “Sent Items” with server error: UID COPY failed Deleted Messages: no such mailbox.
It will not delete from any mailbox, be it Inbox, Sent, Spam etc.
    Any ideas?
    James

This often means you have a Sent folder already set up on the IMAP server but Mail is not using this one.
You must click on the "Sent" folder set up on the IMAP server, click on Mailbox in the menubar, and choose "Use This Mailbox For > Sent".

  • Apple mail won't delete a message on the server but my iPhone will...

    Hello,
I have an iMac running the latest version of Snow Leopard, and use Apple Mail with an IMAP server. Recently, I noticed that when I try to delete a message on my apple mail, that it won't get deleted on the server or my iphone. However, if I do the reverse and delete the message on my iPhone, it gets removed from the server and apple mail.
I have setup Apple Mail as an IMAP account, and on the iphone Active Synch Exchange for the same account. I tried to switch the Apple Mail account to an exchange IMAP account, and it made no difference. Any ideas on how to address this problem - it is really annoying to have to delete the same message twice? Thanks!

    Hi ernie,
Thanks for the help. As for the mailbox preferce I have it set on move deleted to seperate folder (one week old).
Here's the strange part - i have 1 email, only 1 email that will not delete and that's in my inbox, now when i click on view "Show Deleted Message" is greyed out..
    http://i25.tinypic.com/33mx1et.png
I also have 1 email and only 1 email in my outbox that will not delete and when i click on view it shows "Show Deleted message".

so what do you think the problem may be?

  • Now Mail Won't Send eMail (self imposed password)

Apple's Mail has a known bug that it deletes your mail passwords sporadically. Now Mail has not only refused to pick up email while deleting the password, but has "deleted" the non existent password to send email.
Before when Mail deleted the password I could put it in again (and again) until it caught and worked again. But there is no outgoing email password, the server does not require one. If I put it a password it doesn't work because it can't. Does anyone have experience with this problem. It did this the first time last week and it went away after a few hours. But I do need to send email for my business.
Is there anything to do other than wait for it to go away again?
Anyone care to recommend a commercial email program to replace Mail? I have a few thousand emails in a few dozen folders that I would like to import. Is there any?
History, read this before asking any questions.
Mail has for years sporadically deleted incoming pop account passwords. They are deleted in Mail. The copy of the password in Keychain is still there, but Mail will fail to pick up your mail and ignore Keychain. This has been posted many times in this forum. The problem occurs randomly and goes away after awhile, but will return. If one has several pop accounts on the same server, some, all, or none of the accounts will have this problem at any given time. When the dialog pops up requesting the password the best thing to do is click cancel. Mail takes the account off-line. After awhile click the icon to the right of the "inbox" and click the button "Take all accounts online." It will usually work again. Sometimes it will not work. Delete the Keychain entry and put in (the same) password the next time the dialog comes up, check the "save in keychain" box and click okay. Usually it will take in then. Not sure why, but if you put the password in the first time the dialog appears, it almost always fails. some users have surmised that Mail sees any delay in the mail server response as a failed password and this problem is more frequent with webmail accounts than email accounts.
After ten years of OS X Mail use, and a year of off and on receiving problems, I have only this week started to have problems sending email. I have checked with my provider and there is nothing wrong with their servers and they have not suddenly changed the required Mail setup.

Apple's Mail has a known bug that it deletes your mail passwords sporadically.
Sounds awfully definitive. Has Apple verified this for you?
I will, from time to time, be prompted for a password. I cancel and try again five minutes later. 90% of the time, it works fine the second time. The other 10% of the time, I have to wait for an indeterminate amount of time, sometimes several hours. This indicates, to me, that there was a problem contacting the server. I used to see similar behavior with Eudora years ago before I switched to Mail.
I never have to actually re-enter the password. At no time have my passwords been deleted.
None of this answers your questions, but hey... you come on here and cry "bug" and you're going to get challenged if others aren't seeing a bug.

  • Leopard and Mail won't send emails, same exact setting working on my PC

I am trying to set up my new MacBook to use the Mail app (or Thunderbird, or any mail program at this point). I can get mail, but can't send mail.
