Address Book - Missing "On My Mac" account. Not able to add contact or import

Hello world,
Should you not be able to add new contacts on the address book (because Menu File -> New Card will not do anything)
or import an address archive from another mac (because the app will just hang or just run forever),
then check the settings Preferences -> Accounts.
If you no not see the "On my Mac" - Local   entry (like in the screenshot below) then you are probably just missing a folder named
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/YahooSync.framework
It is about 4.8 MB, if you have a second mac, just copy it from there and restart Address Book.
Just wanted to share this (two days) experience with all of you, because the hints found on the web (like chaning file rights or ACLs removals) do not solve the issue : )
Have fun,
Arthur

If your contacts are in sim card that could explain it as sim card can not hold as many details as phone memory.

  • IMac accounts sharing an Address Book, without a dot-mac account?

Two Administrator accounts on one iMac, having a single Address Book in common? (Only open in one account at a time is no problem.) In this helpful 3/6/06 post, Paul Wayne addressed this issue. He said:
The easest way to do this is by move /Users -> user_name -> Library -> Application Support -> Address Book folder in the the /Users/Shared/ folder
Then make an alias by dragging the newly moved folder from /Users/Shared to the each of the user's /Users -> user_name -> Library -> Application Support while holding down the option command key.
This made sense to me. As a new convert to Tiger from System 8.6, I'm not going to try anything too adventurous. Having Address Book in both Administrator accounts open a file in
    /Users/Shared/Library/Application Support/Address Book/
by way of an alias in each
    /Users/UserName/Library/Application Support/Address Book/
So I reset permissions to enable both of the administrator accounts (Alice and Bob) in question to read and write to subdirectories in the /Users/Shared/ folder and did as Paul suggested.
No go. Alice now opens her address book, located in
    /Users/Shared/Library/Application Support/Address Book/
But Bob still opens his own address book, notwithstanding an alias for "Address Book" pointing to the folder in Shared at
    /Users/Bob/Library/Application Support/Address Book/
I tried removing the folder alias and replacing it with Bob's original "Address Book" folder, then making aliases for each of the files in the Shared "Address Book" folder and putting them in Bob's "Address Book" folder.
But when Bob opens AddressBook, he still sees his original Address Book. Surprisingly (to me), Bob's "Address Book" folder now has only the aliases for the files visible. So either the actual data files are invisible in "Address Book", or the program is calling them from some other location.
This doesn't seem like it should be an unusual desire--two separate accounts on one machine sharing a single address book. Doesn't seem that it should be a tough problem, either--Paul's solution ought to have worked.
If I start up Terminal and use Unix to "ls -al" in the folders in question, will that show that I've induced the Mac to create invisible files or aliases that are trumping my clumsy efforts?

    Hi Dozza,
The good news is YES, sharing an Address Book group(s) is easily done without .Mac
Since you are on an ethernet network, all you need to do is:
    1. Enable Sharing thru System Preferences from your "main" computer you wish to transfer data from/with.
    2. Drag your AB group(s) or individual cards to the desktop of your main computer - the one you have all the info in... (the cards will convert to vCards automatically.
    3. Place those groups or cards in your Drop Box folder which is: Hard Drive>Users>your "Home" folder>Public>Drop Box
    4. All networked computers will be able to access your Drop Box folder even if you do not want other info shared.
Of course .Mac is pretty darn handy too!
    Good Luck

  • Why am I not able to add keywords when importing images?

When I import images into LR, I am unable to add keywords in the relevant window. When I click in the window, it will not let me access. Very frustrating. Does anyone know why?

    Andrew,
I've never seen this problem come up. Can you provide a screen shot? Is the keyword entry panel greyed out? (What do you mean by "will not let me access?").
With a little more info or an example, we might be able to come up with the solution.

  • How to make Address Book photos appear in .Mac contacts?

How do you make the photos from your Address Book appear on your .Mac account? The new .Mac interface leaves space for photos in the contact cards, but I cannot figure out how to make the photos from my Address Book appear there. Is it possible to syncronize in a way that syncs photos too?
Thanks for any help on this.

I have the same problem, my photo IDs from my computer Address Book will not sync with my .Mac account. I've asked two Creatives @ the Apple Store in Burlingame CA but they did not know the answer. I also ask the deminstrator of .Mac at MacWorld but when he accessed the Demo version at the show it too was void of pictures. All those who I've asked promassed to get back to me but hae not yet. My only conclusion is it doesn't work but may working in future versions. Does anyone have their .mac Address Book show the picture ID photo's from their computer version or know how to desplay these ID photo's on line?

  • Address book not responding to add contact from Mail

I recently switched from a 4 year old MacBook Pro (Tiger) to a new one (Leopard). I migrated my address book by importing my old address book archive. However, now when I try to add contact to address book through Mail (by clicking on the email addresses) it doesn't appear in the address book! It worked before I did the migration.

I appear to have a similar issue. I am trying to add an address from the body of the email. A card is created when I select the toggle that appears over the phone number when the pointer hovers over it. The details are correct. I then select "add to address book", the card disappears but nothing is added to the address book?? The address book was first created in Leopard and I recently upgraded to SL. I am not sure if it worked under Leopard.
    Can anyone help?

  • Address book of my mac does not show all my contacts in iphone. What do i do??

Address book of my mac does not show all my contacts in iphone. What do i do??

iCloud, which replaced MobileMe, requires OS X Lion (10.7.5) or higher.  You will need to upgrade to OS X Lion higher in order to set up iCloud on your Mac.  First check to see if your system meets the system requirements to upgrade.
    Lion system requirements are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Mountain Lion and Mavericks requirements are the same, as listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5842.
If you can run Mavericks, you can download a free upgrade from the Mac App Store.  If your system can only run Lion, you can go here to purchase a redemption code to download it from the Mac App Store.  If you prefer Mountain Lion for software compatibility reasons, you can go here to purchase a redemption code to download it from the Mac App Store.
After upgrading, you will find iCloud in System Preferences>iCloud on your Mac, and can set it up as explained here: http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/mac.html.
Before upgrading, you may want to check the compatibility of your existing applications by checking here: http://roaringapps.com/apps:table.   Also be aware that older PPC programs such as AppleWorks and Office 2004 for Mac will not run on OS X Lion or higher.

  • Migrating Mail and Address book to a new Mac

    Hello All
I have been asked to help a client move emails and address book to a new mac as he didn't fancy the all or nothing approach by using migration assistant. I'm assuming the guy doesn't have a mobile me account and he has stated his old mac has FW400 and the new one has FW800 so I'm thinking I will use an external USB HD to shift the files over.
Am I right in thinking all I need to do is to copy the address book folder from home/library/application support and the mail folder from home/library/mail, then paste them in the same location on the new mac replacing the folders that are there, restart the new mac and all will be well??
If I am missing anything important any advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Jonno

    Hi All
Ok, one small problem with transferring mail folder and plist from a clients old mac to his new one. Everything looked fine as I left with the correct number of mails etc showing in each of his mail folders but it turns out there is an issue. He can view mails on his .Mac account but when he looks at his POP folder all he can see is the subject line, date and who the mail was from but not any of the content of the mail.
Any ideas what has gone wrong?
    Thanks
    Jonno

  • I want the same address book on my two Macs

Using Sync, it seems easy to exchange your address book data with your mobile phone etc. But all I want is the address books on my two Macs be identical. Sync just does not seem the appropiate tool for that. How do I do this?
iMac G4 + Mac mini   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   Tiger on the Mini, Panther on the iMac

.Mac Sync - which requires a .Mac account - is the Apple recommended method for synchronizing iCal or Address Book data on two or more Macintosh desktop or portable computers.
You can alternatively use MySync [currently in beta] so long as both Macintoshes are located on the same subnet.

  • HT203421 Mountain Lion download has messed up my calendar. One calendar is missing on my MAc but not on my ipad or iPhone

Mountain Lion download has messed up my calendar. One calendar is missing on my Mac but not on my ipad or iPhone

OKAY FOLKS, I found the answer.  I figured the only explination could be with my iCloud Account.  I tried EVERYTHING, read every discussion on this topic.  It WASN'T b/c I had an old Mobile Me account.  It WASN'T b/c I didn't have the sttings right.  I rebooted, erased data, EVERYTHING.  The only solution was to create a NEW iCloud account - I chose a new address through Apple (me.com).  Even though I already have a me.com email address and a different Apple ID I figured starting fresh was the only way.  Sadly, I lost all of my calendar data (when I tried to import my old calendar data from a backup it was associated with the old iCloud account and could not be edited) but my contacts were saved.  I just re-entered my calendar information... figured this would be less time consuming than trying to reboot and research the issue 10 more hours!
Here are the steps I used:
1- iCloud was OFF on my iPhone to start
2- Export your iCal and iContacts data from your Mac to a backup (you WILL lose your data)
3- On iPhone went to Settings, iCloud and went through the proper steps to set up a new iCloud account with a NEW email address (me.com)
4- On iMac under System Preferences I deleted my OLD iCloud account (it will prompt you stating you will lose your data or you can merge/save).  The only way I could get it to work was to accept the warning it was going to delete everything
5- Set up a NEW iCloud account on my Mac with the NEW me.com account I set up on my iPhone.  Somehow my Contacts were kept in tact, uploaded to iCloud and to my iPhone.  Had issues with my iCal data, but I entered all the information manually.
Everything is syncing great!  Haven't set this up yet on my iPad but will do that next.  I'm hopeful!!

  • How do I sync from ical and address book to office for mac 2011

How do I sync from ical and address book to office for mac 2011 in outlook?  icloud is turned on, sync is turned on in outlook and in itunes.  Email working fine in outlook, but no contact or calendar information.  Microsoft said it is an Apple issue.  They said icloud is not compatible with Outlook.  I have OS Lion if you need to know that.

  • How can i sync mac address book w/ outlook for mac 2011

Is it possible to have the address book in Outlook for Mac 2011 sync w/ the Mac address book?  I cleaned up my contacts in the Mac address book expecting the changes to show up in my outlook address book.  Made over 200 changes that did not show up on the Outlook address book.  Seems like there should be a way to make this work.  If I add contacts from within Outlook, I'd like them to show up on all my devices.  MacBook Pro, iPhone, and iPad.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I'm new to this platform as I was a PC guy for the last 30 years.

I've got Outlook up and running just fine.  Still have the problem with getting duplicate emails but I'm waiting on MS to get a fix for that in an update.  Apparently that has been an ongoing issue.  I've been in contact w/ a senior MS Outlook tech on that.  I guess I'll just have to make sure that all contact adds/edits are done in Outlook.  Then I can sync my phone or iPad and get the cloud to update the other Apple devices off that sync.  Either that or figure out how to export from the Mac address book to the Outlook address book once in a while.

  • TS1541 I tried importing email addresses from gmail and now my address book is locked up and will not work. Help please.

I tried importing email addresses from gmail and now my address book is locked up and will not work. Do I need to delete my address book software and reinstall? If so, what is the proper way to do this? New to Macbook software. I have tried several things and nothing has helped. I have backed up photos, movies, etc. My addresses are on my iphone so I can sync them later right if I loose my data?
Thanks for your time and expertise,
    T.

You can probably resolve this by removing some Address Book preference files rather than deleting your Address Book application.
First turn off Synchronize in Address Book Preferences if you can.
Next restart Address Book and try to export everything to your Desktop.
I have had a play and found my Address Book preference files. In the following ~/Library is the Library within your Home folder. Any numerals may differ on your Mac. Quit Address Book before doing anything with these.
1 - Display details and things set in Address Book Preferences
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.plist
2 - Has no data - not sure what this does
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.abd.plist
3 - Has last sync date - may have more if I used sync
    ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.AddressBook.sync.000393735c06.plist
    4 - My contact details
    /Library/Preferences/AddressBookMe.plist
5 - Individual addresses and groups stored as separate files within:
    ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/Metadata
6 - All of these addresses are are also in this single database:
    ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/AddressBook-v22.abcddb
If you wish to remove all addresses drag both 5 & 6 to your Desktop.
If you wish to reset preferences drag 1 your Desktop.
Removing 3 may resolve sync issues but I am unable to test this.
If you wish to reset everything drag all except 4 to your desktop.
Apple has an interesting page at: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2481
    I hope this helps.

  • Backup address book and transfer to another account wont work !

I have 2 accounts and i want to transfer the address book info to the other account (on the same computer)
i used export from address book and saved it to the shared folder. I then found that there was a folder ico with a red explanation mark in the folder and could not access it.
So I went back to the original account and changed the persmissions and ownership of the backup file to match the account I was trying to import it into and the folder with red explaination mark had now changed but it still wont import it.
any ideas on how to do this.. it almost seems that if you backup an address book then it can only be used on the original account even after changin the ownership and persmissions
this sure seems wierd. I amanaged to get my email folder across and account details onf my mail across.. so what the heck is up?

    You're welcome.
I'm not sure how Export and Backup terminology is confusing.
The export function can export all contacts as a single vCard file or as a separate vCard file for each contact which can be used to import into other email client address books as long as a vCard import is supported. Not sure why this didn't work as you tried.
The Backup function creates a backup file of all Address Book data which can be used by the Apple Address Book only via File > Revert to Address Book Backup.
I always create an Address Book backup before adding to, removing or making any significant changes to Address Book data.
