Address Book no longer syncs to iPod nano

I don't know whether this is an iTunes 10.5.2 problem or a Lion problem, but I recently found that iTunes is no longer syncing my address book to my 5G iPod nano. All I get is a zero-byte file with the current file creation time in the nano's Contacts folder. (I AM able to manually export a vcard file from my Address Book.app to the nano, and that is my current workaround.)

After installing the latest iTunes update, I can no longer sync my iPod Nano. Windows 7 says that there is no driver installed, whereas there was prior to the update. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit OS and the new iTunes version is 10.5.3.3. Thanks for your help.

  • ICal and Address Book no longer syncing with iPhone - HELP!

    HELP!
I am a long time Apple user and rely heavily on my iPhone to keep me where I need to be, when I need to be there. I have an iPhone 4 and it is running OS 6.0.1. Everything was working fabulously until recently. Sadly I don't know when the problems started--when I updated to OS 6 OR when I updated iTunes to version 11. Either way, my iCal and Address Book no longer sync with my iPhone. And to add insult to injury, my phone is no longer automatically detecting the AT&T microcell I have in my house. I have to reboot my phone every time I come back in the house--talk about annoying.
I am not super techy, so I am hoping someone can help me with this. I LIVE by my iPhone and as a self-employed person, I can't afford for this device to stop giving me information. I also don't want to do entries on my phone AND computer everytime something changes. I do not want to go back to the more reliable paper calendar and address book.
I have iCloud turned on, and it appears to sync my address book with my iPhone. But I seem to be a mess with iCal and my desktop. And between iCal/Adress Book on my computer and iPhone, nothing is talking.
    HELP!!!!

I think my company updated Exchange on Friday and since then I cannot sync with Mac Mail, Entourage does not seem to be working either?
    Any fix found

  • Address Book no longer syncs with google contacts

After my switch to Lion, I'm noticing that my address book no longer syncs with my google contacts??
After I update my contacts in address book, it doesn't show up on google contacts and vice versa.
    Is anyone else exprienceing this?

    ¡¡¡Ok, Something worked for me!!!
I have my address book empty, and then this is what I did:
1- Copy Address book app to downloads (or other folder) just to back it up
    2- Install AppCleaner
3- Drag and Drop address book ap into app cleaner, make sure that it references to several files (all .plist files etc.) If there are no external references then try to drag and drop your backup, do it until you see the rest of references (uncheck address book widget)
4- After press clean in AppCleaner, it will delete everything.
5- Put back your address book app backup into your applications folder
6- Open it and if your are lucky you will see all the contacts again, they were like hidden....
Then I deleted all the contacts again and set up google account in preferences again, after that it syncs fine!!!
    Good Luck!

  • Lion Address Book no longer syncs to iCloud and will not SEARCH

I use a MBAir i7, Lion, and Address Book (all system updates current as of date).
    My issue:
#1– for no apparent reason the search function within address book has ceased functioning.
#2– entries are no longer updating to iCloud.
How long has this been going on:
A few days.  However, I have had similar issues in the past that were resolved, such as the ridiculous issues regarding duplicate syncs, etc...all these issues were so time consuming to resolve.  But the issues could have been resolved with QUALITY PROGRAMMING.  Uh oh here it goes...the rant is exploding out of me...It baffles me how incompetent the programming has been with iCloud.  As long as I've been an Apple owner (since way back in the Quadra days) this has got to be one of the most frustrating experiences and BLUNDERS I have *ever* had using an Apple product.  I'm sorry ladies and gentlemen, i promised myself i would not digress to a rant.  But the truth is, I am so incensed by this complete botch since it results in such a MASSIVE WASTE OF MY TIME...sorry, again.
My attempts at resolution (for this specific issue):
    #1– Logging out (no avail).
    #2– Restarting (no avail).
#3– Changing WiFi locations (no avail).
#4– Running diskcheck to fix permissions (only a few permissions came up bad) (no avail).
#5– Spending about 2+ hours searching the internet for solutions (no avail).
#6– ^Deleting some preference files related to AB (no avail).
#7– ^Unsyncing AB from iCloud / deleting contacts on MBA / resyncing to iCloud (this works but shortly returns).
Does anyone else have suggestions on how to fix this problem?
...i remember before the iPhone came out, I owned a motorola flip phone.  I remember all I really wanted was a way to sync my AB contacts to that motorola phone.  There was a sync program available, and the syncing was so horrible that it was basically not usable.  For example, the sync process would not recognize the entries on the phone or the computer or vice-versa, which resulted in duplicate entries every time a sync was performed.  It was really impractical to go and delete, say entries 2, 4, 6, etc. from the AB database.  Even worse, the phone would truncate some of the data, so the benefit of syncing contacts to computer was at the expense of duplicating entries which would have to be deleted.  Then, the iPhone came out.  The iPhone propelled the standard for a mobile phone to a distant galaxy– and every commercial we heard for years was, "this new product is the iPhone killer"...The truth is that nothing has caught up with the iPhone.  And, all I thought I wanted was the ability to sync my contacts with my mobile phone.
So where do I stand in the year 2012?  Right back where I was in the day of my old P.O.S. motorola flip phone.

  • Why won't address book close (or sync with ipod)

When I open address book to edit or add contacts, it will not close. The spinning wheel appears and then I have to force quit. I have also found that my ipod video will no longer sync with address book. It asks me to open the contact list whenever I try.
I tried deleting all my cards and reentering the information, but that has not helped. There is something wrong with the address app itself.
I used to have a palm device set up, but I have removed it and all palm files.
This is the info provided by console:

    You are right theldje
BUT...This is no the way that is supposed to work.
I have to modify 300+ years! and it took me 5 min to convince AddressBook that I write fast enough to change the year
Besides, this is Apple. It's supposed to be user friendly.
I hope this people comes with an answer soon!
At any rate thank you for sharing your findings!

  • Address Book won't sync with iPod

When I try to sync my Address Book to my iPod I get an error message something like "Your Address Book is empty. Would you like to open Address Book and start entering some contacts?" If I click "Yes" Address Book opens and all 600+ of my contacts are there in living color.
My iCal calendars all sync to my iPod just fine.
Now here's the interesting part. If I back-up my Address Book and import my contacts into another Mac (I used a MacBook Pro for this experiment) and then connect my iPod to the other Mac, then sync my Address Book, all 600+ contacts sync to the iPod perfectly.
What is going on with my Mac that is NOT allowing the AB sync? Are there some preferences I need to trash or something?

I have had same problem since I got my nano 2 months ago. At least with latest firmware update, when you DO see Contacts they contain their complete Notes! I have tried using iTunes sync to sync my full AddressBook with 900 entries, but this routinely failed to load any more than 600 entries with message saying so. Calendar has been even more problematic until I created a sub-view of my full calendar with just the prior 1 month and future 2 months event entries; then at least I could see the Calendar - but NEVER after immediately a sync, only after i reset the Nano. And finally I have used iPDA (ZappTek) to transfer News, RSS feeds, Weather updates for cities, & selected Documents and these too transfer completely (as inspection of the iPod as Disk shows), but needs a full reset to get them to show. Even then when you first highlight the "Notes" menu option you see it display "No Notes" but then when you click/select it, it starts "Loading them with a counter: sometimes the count is complete, sometimes it "aborts" and then you can only see some of the notes you loaded. I view this as a bug. I believe that the Nano is indexing these entries and either completes it or aborts, for an unknown "bug" reason. The ZappTek developer suggested there is a definite RAM (not storage) limitation in the Nano which prevents the Nano from handling very large sets of entries, but I should think a software update might be able to fix this by not trying to load everything at once.
    Hope this helps.

  • Apple Address Book no longer sync'ing with iPhone

I'm running Leopard Server 10.5.1. Address Book sync with my iPhone is no longer working properly. iTunes is getting Address Book information from someplace other than Address Book. This is what I did to test this theory:
    1. deleted all contacts in Address Book
    2. deleted ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook
    3. deleted ~/Library/Caches
    4. deleted ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook*.plist
    5. in iSync, Reset Sync History
After the above, I logged out and logged back in; fired up iTunes, sync'ed and got a message saying if I continue the sync, there will be a greater than 5% change to the info on my iPhone - in the dialog box, it listed all the entries in my Address Book prior to me deleting them (oddly, all the contact names are there and all notes for contacts are there but the phone #s, email addresses, web pages, etc. are gone). I verified Address Book by opening it and none of the listed contacts are there, so, where is iTunes getting that data? Also, the Info tab in iTunes shows groups in the Contacts section that were all deleted.
    Can someone offer a solution?

OK, I know why this is happening now. This is what I'm seeing in the logs when I do a sync from iTunes:
1/30/08 8:39:29 AM AddressBookSync[86028] AddressBookSync (client id: com.apple.AddressBook) error: Exception running AddressBookSync: can't remove object at /Network/Servers/trantor.tyrann.net/Homes/abid/Library/Application Support/SyncServices/Local/clientdata/633a1ba25cb8241bbde44acb603ee1e822cde772/ bbb82163e3ac8d890906c3d29deb27e226048c30: Permission denied

The permission on these files and the directory they're in is read & write access to me and no access for everyone else. So what should the correct permissions be? I have full access to create and remove files so why am I getting permission errors?

  • Address Book no longer syncs to iPhone

I'm running Snow Leopard (10.6.8) on my MacBook, which uses iTunes 10.5.1. My iPhone 3GS is running iOS 5.0.1. I use the OS X Address Book application to manage my contacts. Recently, I noticed that changes were no longer being synched between my MacBook and my iPhone. Other information (such as calendar info) was being synched fine.
I tried to fix this in the following ways:
    - Configured iTunes to "Replace information on this iPhone" for contacts (under iTunes' Info tab).
    - Reset sync history in iSync.
Neither of these things fixed the problem. The odd thing is that iTunes displays "syncing contacts" for 8-9 seconds every time I sync my iPhone (I have a lot of contacts). So it *seems* as if the contacts info does actually get exchanged between the Mac and the phone. But when I open the Contacts app on my iPhone, it displays "no contacts".
Last week, I got a new, larger hard drive for my MacBook. I installed Snow Leopard on the clean drive and restored my backups, including contacts. In order to make sure everything was really clean, I wiped my iPhone too. Then I tried syncing them. Contacts STILL did not appear on the iPhone. At the time of the first sync, I had no additional software installed on my Mac -- it was just a clean install of OS X with Apple's updates (of OS X and iTunes) applied. Even now, I have only a few additional applications installed (LibreOffice, Audacity, Firefox, Chrome, Opera).
The fact that the problem has persisted even after the reinstallation suggests to me that the problem might be with the contact data itself. But my contacts look fine on the Mac.
Can anyone suggest a possible next step?

OK -- problem solved. Here's what I did:
    1. Opened the Address Book application.
    2. Highlighted all my contacts and dragged them into a new directory that I created under Documents. This created a single vcard file containing all the contacts.
    3. Shut down (i.e., File/Close) the Address Book application.
    4. Went to ~/library/Application Support/  and renamed the AddressBook directory to AddressBook.bak (so that the Address Book application would no longer find the directory).
    5. Opened the Address Book application. It automatically created a AddressBook directory and a new address database containing only the two default addresses (Apple and my own address).
    6. Dragged the vcard that I created in step 2 into the open Address Book application.
    7. Confirmed that I wanted to import a large number of addresses.
    8. When the import was done (about 15-20 seconds), connected my iPhone and did a sync.
Now I have all my contacts back in my iPhone again. But I have lost the group information that I created (business, personal, etc). This is not a big problem. Even if I have to create the groups and assign records to them manually, I can have it done in an hour or so, which is nothing compared to the time I have been wasting trying to get this problem fixed.

  • Since i updated to snow leopard, address book no longer syncs to office 2011

I use Office 2011's email program. With 10.5.8, when I entered a new contact into Apple Address Book, it synced with the address book in Office pretty immediately.
Then I upgraded to Snow Leopard a few weeks ago. But I just noticed that when I add an address to Apple Address Book that it no longer syncs and loads into the Office contacts.
(When I started using the new iCal, it was recommended that I uncheck the sync to Mobile Me. It's checked now, just not for Calendar.)
Has anyone experienced this? If so, what did you do to solve?
    Thanks for your help.

This is all a bit confusing.  Your signature says you have 10.4.7 installed.  You have indicated that you have upgraded to 10.6 (Snow Leopard).  Office 2004 is not compatible with Apple's latest OS (10.7 Lion).  If you have 10.6 installed, as you have indicated, it should work.
What is the exact message you are getting?

  • "main" phone in Address Book doesn't sync to iPod

I found that not all phone numbers in Address Book on my iBook were appearing on my iPod contacts after syncing. Apparently, the "main" phone numbers don't sync, while "home" and "work" do...I haven't tried them all. I entered many phone numbers as "main". Do I have to go through all by address cards and change them? Am I missing something?
    Thanks.

I don't really know... iSync on Panther (10.3.9) is really old and it seems much have changed in Tiger... maybe it's a good decision to upgrade

Can anyone explain why the new iphone doesn't sync back to my MacBook. My ical won't sync, nor will my address book when I make changes to either device? I just bought the phone today and no one at the Mac Store could provide any assistance. I was told that, "it's too new." and had to set up a call with tech support for next Tuesday. • Mail 4.2, iCal, and Address Book no longer syncing to Exchange 2007

For the last year or so I have had a perfectly functioning connection to our company Exchange 2007 server that worked for Mail, iCal, and Address Book. However, in the last 2 weeks or so I have been unable to sync to those account, getting the little icon with exclamation point in a triangle, meaning it can't sync to the account.
I have tried deleting the account and recreating. It auto-discovers that account server just fine and auto-configures the SSL ports, but I still can't get the account to sync.
Anyone else having this problem? Anyone figure out what's going on?
I'm using Apple Mail 4.2 on OS 10.6.3.

  • Podcast smart playlists no longer syncing to iPod nano?

I've been a long-time iPod podcast listener, despite the obvious intent to push this product into oblivion. I am no longer seeing smart podcast playlists on my iPod. This is a HUGE bummer to me, as I listen to podcasts while I run. And I hate running with my iPhone.
Anyone else not seeing smart podcast playlists syncing to their iPod anymore?

Here is the solution: After five hours of endless error messages and incomplete re-syncs, it all boiled down to this: Restore the iPod Touch via iTunes. Everything was first erased from the iPod but then everything- contents (photos, music and settings) were restored from iTunes perfectly. Finally now MobileMe is also on all my Apple products - including the heretofore frustrating iPod.
Hope someone can save themselves a lot of aggravation by trying this fix should the updates prove to be less the "seamless"!
    Cheers!
