Address Book now blank.,,

What do I do? I use Mobile me. The address book on the imac is now empty but for multiple copies of groups being made. It seems each time I open address book on the imac, there is another copy of my groups made. AND my contact data base on my Iphone has everything in triplicate.
What do I do????

Try logging onto MobileMe's web site, then open an interactive chat with Apple's tech support. They are very helpful with solving problems such as this.

  • Address book is blank, email client is Lotus Notes

    Hi,
I have a blackberry curve with the OS 5...
my address book is blank, however when i type any alphabet to quick search contacts, i am able to access a Few contacts, Not All.
I tried taking a back up of the contacts, it keeps asking me to turn off the wireless sync:address book >options>wireless syn off.  that does not happen too. i deleted and undeleted the Desktop cical and sync options from the service book.
I have pulled the battery for reset (a couple times) and i end up losing more contacts from my quick search.
I have checked and unchecked all the filters
The contact information does not show for SMS
The contact information DOES show in the call log (and I can view their complete Contacts information from there) but when they call, the name does not appear, only the no. does!
Email client linked is Lotus Notes
the phone shows that i have 850 contacts, but my address book now shows one contacts no. 5 times. this is the only contact i see on my address book.
i am wondering if lotus notes is causing the problem. shall i uninstall it?
    Please help out!

It sounds as though you are using your phone with a BES server, it could be worth talking to your IT support to check everything is setup properly on the server.

  • 3 Problems with Address Book-- now considering Bento

I have 3 problems with Apple Address Book that make it close to unusable for me, so I'm considering buying Bento 3:
    1. *Can't un-do accidentally deleted text*- When you click in the "Notes" section, it will select all the text there by default (instead of merely inserting the cursor). If you are not paying attention, and hit any other key when it is selected, it deletes everything in there. UN-DO will not un-do this. I've verified and reported this issue to Apple, but it has still never been fixed or formally addressed (aside from many complaints in the Apple forums).
    2. *Search doesn't always work*- Yesterday I searched for one of my entries, Harbor Freight, by typing in the search "harbor". Nothing came up. I thought that maybe I never actually added this business and started with a new one. After I created the new one, I noticed that now, along with the new entry, the old contact suddenly showed up in the left column.
    3. *Cards disappear*- Many complaints on the web about this. I do not do any syncing with MobileMe or any device. Occasionally, cards just seem to vanish. Sometimes the card is actually still there, but changes in the Notes field or other fields I made on a previous day were evidently not saved and gone. Very frustrating.
Here's my concern with using Filemaker Pro's Bento: if it's using and accessing the same database as Address Book, all these problems might end up also existing in Bento. I use Address Book for business and personal and heavily rely on the Notes section. I can't keep wasting my time with this.
I don't mind paying the $50 for Bento if it resolves these issues, but the shared database worries me. I guess that I could create an independent Bento database that is completely separate from Address Book, but then I don't know how well it would integrate with Apple Mail.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Dave

DON'T DO IT. DO NOT INSTALL BENTO. I bought & installed it on 01/20/10 and it destroyed my address book. Gone forever. If you are having problems with Address Book now, wait until you see the damage created by Bento! Bento does not replace Address Book. It is a 'supplement' (at best) and uses and updates every file in your Address Book without you even knowing it! Well, you notice it when your database is destroyed and you find all of your contacts under 'No Name'. I am so serious. Bento is just a shell. None of your addresses are actually stored in Bento. They remain in Address Book. Every time you open Bento, it accesses your address book database, and starts re-formatting and re-working every entry along with any 'changes' you make. And who do you call for help? Apple says 'not our program'. Filemaker says 'we don't know anything about Mac's'.....I lost four years of addresses for all of my customers. Gone. In seconds! Just don't do it. Don't install Bento. And be sure to remove any 'smart groups' you have created as it seems to be at the root of most problems one encounters with address book.

  • Address Book Gone Blank though contacts are still in memory

This last weekend, when i was trying to save a number, my address book became blank. To make my numbers reappear, i had to Option>Sort By and change what I sort by, either to Last or First Name, and then SAVE. My numbers would then reappear temporarily. When I switch application, say go to my inbox, and then go back to the address book, all my contacts are blank again. To make them reappear, I have to change and save the SORT BY option again. I already checked the FILTER option and it's set to PERSONAL. My OS version is 4.2.
This problem just started  this weekend and I did not download or update anything at all to trigger this bug.
I tried to look for a similar thread in the forum, but couldnot find this exact same problem.
Thanks in advance for any tips.

  • Address book is blank!?!?!

I went to get my address book and blam, it was completey wiped blank! Is there a way to retrieve it?
shheeez, I wonder if me fooling arounf with smart mailboxes caused me to lose my address book? Anybody have any ideas as to what I can do?
    mahalo,
    RB

    Roger,
    open the folder
~/Library / Application Support / AddressBook and find the file that has the ...before save extension. Press your Alt key and select it (not double click, just one), now while you continue to hold down the ALt key, just drag the file to the desktop. You will see a green dot with the + sign appearing on the icon, indicating that you are copying this file, creating a duplicate of the orginal.
Now do the rename thing I mentioned above and start AB, report back if it does not work.

  • Snow Leopard's Address Book now Requires Full Name to find a Contact

In all previous versions of Address Book, the user could simply type 'T' to instantly go to contacts with last names that start with 'T' (and businesses that start with 'T').
In Snow Leopard, Address Book can no longer search with one letter the way it did before; it uses a 'Spotlight' type of search where the user must type the full name in order to get an exact match. This type of searching is useful for finding documents on the Mac or searching the Internet, but is totally inefficient for finding contacts in Address Book.
It sounds like someone at Apple decided this was a better way to search for contacts, because this change in search method is described in the new Address Book 'Help' file; it says, "As you type, Address Book begins to search all the information on the cards, including notes, and displays matching contacts, with the matching text highlighted in each card." For example, let's say someone used to type 'T' to search for a contact named Bill Tilman. Now what happens is that Address Book stops at the first person who's first name starts with 'T', and highlights all the T's in the person's card (the T in 'telephone', the T in 'Street', etc. The user must now scroll through all their contacts manually to find Bill Tilman, or else manually type out the complete name 'Bill Tilman'. (If they just type 'Bill', they will only get the first person named Bill.)
I hope Apple will reconsider and will allow Address Book to do the quick one-letter searches by last name (as opposed to 'Sort' by last name, which it still has) like it used to. (Or at least make this a choice in Address Book Preferences.) This would also be more compatible with the way iPhone searches for contacts; when you select a letter in the iPhone's contacts, it finds contacts who's last name starts with that letter, as well as businesses, just like Address Book always used to.

Thanks for your response Ernie. You are correct in that whenever you type a series of letters, Address Book (as it always has) finds every single thing with that combination of letters - Names, businesses, adjectives, people's dogs' names, letters in product serial numbers, etc. This is useful for finding a subject on the Web, or finding all documents related to 'iPhoto' on your Mac, etc., but not useful, quick or convenient when trying to find one person to call in your Address Book (which is what people use Address Book for).
What is DIFFERENT in the Snow Leopard version, is that the ability to type one letter to instantly go to last names with that letter has been removed. Previously, you could easily find 'Bill Tilman' in one second by simply typing 'T'. Now you get every word that starts with T and all the words in the card that have a T in them. If you type out a full name like 'Bill', it finds every person named Bill. No one would ever want to find all their contacts named Bill to call them. You could type out the full last name 'Tilman', but there again you are forced to type out a complete name to do a search. It would actually be quicker to scroll down and find it manually. The ability to type a single letter to find the last name (or business name) of a contact you needed to call, was much quicker and easier than having to type out the entire name.

  • I cannot access my address book now that I have updated to Snow Leopard.

I bought Quickbooks 2012 for the Mac, which required that I update my OS to Snow Leopard (at least.)  So I purchased it online (not available at apple stores anymore.) And Installed it.  Then I went to apple and got the free updates and installed them.  Now I cannot use my address book.  A message comes up that says " You can't use this version of the application Address Book.app with this version on Mac OS X. You have address Book.app 4.1.2"  HELP!  All my personal and business contacts are in there and predictably, I need them.

Can you open Contacts and edit, insert, and delete cards, or does it fail to work, also?
Try the steps I outline here: Re: After Lion upgrade, my addressbook does not work++

  • "Address Book" now "Adressbog" after 10.4.5 combo update!

    Hi All,
    I'm in the USA.
For some reason after using 10.4.5 combo updater my Address Book is now in a foreign language. I think it's a Scandinavian language. The Address Book is now called Adressbog and all the menus are in a foreign language.
    Any ideas what happened?
    Best,
    John
    G4 QuickSilver   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I have a a similar problem. I have gone from French to Swedish (?) Chinese briefly, and back to Swedish (?) I have tried changing my language preference, but seem to have lost English and have a lot others that I don't understand. Try clicking on Applications in the hard drive then address book then get info (or hit the key with the apple on it and the letter i) you should get Address book info and at the bottom is languages if English is checked that is a good thing. I don't even have it on my imac just my ibook. anyway next under the apple on the top right of your screen and then go to preferences then over to international and click on it and you should have a choice of languages. drag English to the top and you should be okay. If either of these don't work you'll be in the same boat as me. I two people working on my problem now. So let me know if you aren't fixed. S.

  • Address Book now showing all LDAP attributes

The Address Book does not provide access to all LDAP attributes. For example
    homePhone
    homePostalAddress
    labeledURI
are some of the fields currently left out. It would be nice if it was possible to configure the schema mapping, similar to thunderbird which allows the mapping off all the field it know about to corresponding LDAP attributes. Also inetOrgPerson, even though it is the defacto standard is rather due for redesign.
I am just wondering if anybody else if having this problem and if they found a solution?

the script did not work for me
    python fixBirthdays
    Traceback (most recent call last):
File "fixBirthdays", line 6, in <module>
    import AddressBook
    ImportError: No module named AddressBook
further, the particular one vcard that is misbehaving - i exported it, and opened in Tedit.
this is what isee for the date field.
    item1.X-ABDATE;type=pref:2003-06-17
    year is not negative either.
i unchecked and checked birthday calendar in iCal. exited iCal after uncheck, relaunched iCal and checked that option.
    no show of the birthdate.
    stumped.

  • Address Book opens blank and nonfunctional

Here's what the window looks like:
    http://www.pbase.com/strangeghost/image/73357438
None of my addresses are viewable, though mail can still pull them in as though nothing is wrong at all. I've tried deleting the Address Book plists and relaunching the app, and replacing the address book app with a copy from another mac where it's working normally. Nothing has affected its abnormal behavior in the least.
I'm running a G5 iMac, OSX 10.4.8 with all updates in place. My system is running entirely normally otherwise.
    Any help or ideas?

Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all filesystem issues, if any, proceed as follows:
    1. Open /Applications/Utilities/Console.
    2. From the File menu, choose either Open Console Log, or Open System Log, or both, so that Console displays the contents of both system.log and console.log.
    3. In the Finder, go to /Applications/ and open Address Book by double-clicking on it. Look at the bottom of the Console windows for messages that might be written there as a result. They may provide some clues.
In the meanwhile, take a look at the following article, in case this is a font issue:

  • Installed DT 4.7, address book now out of sync?

I recently upgraded my 8820 to 4.5 OS and DT software to 4.7. I'm a little concerned that the 'Device Software' window in Help/About window on the DT software indicates v4.2.2.169(Platform 2.4.0.67), while my device indicates v4.5.0.110 (Platform 2.7.0.90) and wondering if this may explain the sync problem I am I having.
When I tried the sync, it read all addresses on BB and Outlook 2007 and started reporting the first of several conflicting addresses and asked which to accept, reject, etc. Not one of the conflicts made any sense. Sync is matching business contacts with unrelated personal contacts and asking how I would like to resolve the conflict. The conflicts didn't have any shared name/address/phone/email data whatsoever. They're not even close, so there seems to be a pretty significant problem here. There were dozens that I viewed and rejected before cancelling the sync.
There is no telling how many 'rejects' I would have to make before getting to the calendar sync. If I had only a few dozen names, I would just grind thru them and see what happens to calendar sync. But I have over 500 contacts.
Is there a way to identify changes made to the BB address book in the past 7-10 days? If so, I can just manually update Outlook, delete the BB book and replace it.

    there is no such way.

  • My phone contacts don't sync with Address Book now that I have "Lion"! PLEASE HELP!

    Hello!
I have a Macbook Pro and have recently downloed Lion .... after having done this, my contacts no longer sync with Address Book. My calendar syncs with the iCAL but my contacts don't sync. I don't have iCloud set up and am not sure if that makes a difference, but any help would be GREAT!
    Thanks!
    Esther

The link provided did not contain a solution for me. However, based on what I read there, I was able to figure out the solution on my own.
Here it is. If you have a Motorola razr. Sorry I don't know which version of the phone or software I have. Go to phonebook. Choose the options by selecting the center menu key. Scroll through the list until you find Share Phonebook Entry. It is not in alphabetical order and may be the last entry. Select it and on the next screen choose bluetooth. The next screen is object exchange. If your computer appears as an option choose it, otherwise chose Look for device and when your computer comes up, select it. The phone will then send a card to your computer. Your computer will ask if you wanted to accept the card. There is also a box that gives you the option to select all. Check select all and then choose accept or hit return if accept is already highlighted in blue. The phone card will be saved to your computer in a default save location. You will next be given an option to see where the card is, in case you don't remember where your default location is. If you choose it, a window will appear showing you where the card is.
Next run isync and your data should be synchronized. Many duplicate entries will be somewhat altered in your computer's address book, i.e. first and last name will be combined and put in the first name box and so will not be recognized as duplicates. This is just part of the idiosyncrasies of the process. Manually go through and delete these.
This worked for me and I hope it is helpful to someone else out there having the same problem.
Thank you for the link Julian and others.

  • Address Book- blank and Mail app preferences- gone! (and iphoto and firefox

    Hello,
Suddenly, my address book is blank. After starting the computer this morning, the doc came up in its basic original form. Mail app has lost its preferences (when it opens it says "You have no email accounts configured to use Mail..."). Iphoto has also lost all the preferences. The pictures and are there in the computer but they don't appear in iphoto; further, firefox also seems to have lost its preferences.
I have no idea what to do....
    Any help out there?!
    Thanks
    Omar

    Thank you for the replies.
It does appear that my contacts are in the metadata folder.
I deleted the AddressBook-v22.abcddb file and opened Address Book but it was still blank and I still could not add my contacts back. I noticed that the file did rebuild itself. I restarted and still nothing changed.
There is a second file, AddressBook-v22~.abcddb, I deleted that as well and it did not rebuild itself and had no effect.
I did make a copy of the complete folder. Any other suggestions or even just insights will win my undying loyalty. I believe this is the first awkward problem I've had with my Mac and I am really uncomfortable not knowing what is going on.
I can only think of a few things I've done since I last checked Address Book, but I don't see how it would create this problem
    - Deleted my windows partition through bootcamp
    - ran disk permissions for the first time
    - unintentionally had my contacts placed on my ipod (I have no need for them there and it really wasn't what I was trying to do)
I don't think there was anything else. Oh, yes - I purged my computer of all hidden google related files. I had already done this before but it turned out there were more more more. Geez, if a google related hidden files broke my Address Book - there are larger problems at hand than my contacts. (I did Not have my contacts synced with a google account or do I do any syncing with any mobile devices at all)
Also, I do not have any AV software.
    Thanks again.

  • Address Book Sync Problems - 8530 and Outlook 2007

This has been a nagging problem for me for quite some time.  Here's my current status:
    Curve 8530 on Verizon Wireless
Access to Corporate resources and email via BES
I also access Gmail from the device
Right now I am not synching over the air - that has never worked.  I'm using Desktop Manager, and recently downgraded to Version 5.01.  When I connect the device and configure for Address Book sync the application starts the process, then craps out without synching.  I've rebooted the PC, reloaded the application without success.
And right now the device's address book is blank.  Any ideas?

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Given that you are on BES, why in the world are you putting up with it's non-functionality? With BES, you should be receiving Over the Air (OTA) sync of email, contacts, calendar, tasks, etc...no need whatsoever to synchronize to Outlook via USB tether. If that is not working, then you should do one of two things:
    1) Talk to your BES admins and have them get it working properly for you...you are missing a lot!!!
    -- OR --
    2) Talk to your carrier about changing your data plan and dropping BES -- you are paying extra for a service that you cannot even use!!
Once you decide which path you wish to pursue, let us know.
    Good luck!

  • Address Book Addresses Wiped Out by Entourage!

After selecting preferences in Entourage to "replace Sync Services items with Entourage items" in order to sync it with Address Book, all previous addresses in the latter were wiped out and Address Book is blank! Solutions welcome.

I can't remember exactly what happened when I first turned it on, so I am just guessing based on how other syncing works. The first time, it should ask you what you want to do:
    1) Replace Data A with Data B
    2) Replace Data B with Data A
    3) Merge Data A and Data B
This should only happen once. You chose to replace you address book data with the data from Entourage. Since you have the data in both places now the same, it doesn't really matter which you choose as they should all result in the same thing.
Now, with syncing turned on and the initial data established, changes to the address book should update in Entourage and vice versa.
However, if it still wipes it clean after the initial setup, I'm not sure what the problem is. Mine is working fine.
Ok, I turned syncing off, then back on again and I got the options I described above. I chose merge and got 8 conflicts which I resolved.
