Address Book opens up ramdomly

Hey guys,
after 2.5 years on a Mac I have the first problem I couldn't solve myself.
I'm on 10.7.3 with all of my contacts on iCloud syncing with my iPhone.
For a few weeks now Address Book opens up unintentionally with hidden window.
Console log says
11.03.12 18:05:12,474 Address Book: ServerNotifications: Setting delegate to APSD
11.03.12 18:05:14,748 Address Book: Subscription request completed
11.03.12 18:05:18,655 Console: _mthid_copyDeviceInfo(288230377744881384) failed
It's alway these three lines occuring there.
I assume it has something to do with iCloud. I asked google but nothing really helped as there seems no problem like mine.
I hope you can help me here.
Thanks in advance.
Ma nu

  • ADDRESS BOOK Opens Unexpectedly? Usually with Widgets or shut down.

New Apple user here. New Macbook owner.
So at ramdom times my Address Book suddenly opens and quickly closes again. I have no clue why. I've noticed it USUALLY happens when i press f12 to check my Widgets. When this occurs, the Widgets pop up and Address Book opens as well for like one second and then quickly disappears again.
The same goes when I shut down my macbook. After pressing shut down, address book will do the same thing.
Now, this doesnt happen everytime but usually at one point during my day address book quickly pops and disappears.
    Any help?

Well, it looks like you’ve already identified the problem yourself. One of those widgets clearly needs Address Book to be running at some point for whatever it does...

  • Address Book - Open Window Shortcut?

If I have Address Book open and close the main window (command-w), there does not seem to be a Keystroke that will re-open that main window. Instead, I have to go to the WINDOW menu and mouse-select "Address Book". This is a pain when I want to quickly find a contact.
I have tried to add a shortcut using the Keyboard preferences panel, but that does not seem to work either.
For an every-day utility, this seems to be awkward for a common action. Am I missing something? Appreciate any responses. Thx.

    Hi,
It's a bit more key work than you probably wanted, but you can press control+F2 to activate the menu bar and then use the arrow keys to navigate to the Window menu.

  • Address Book opens when a script is opened, while script editor was closed

    Hi,
    Something puzzles me :
I have a very simple script with only these two lines :
    tell application "Address Book"
    end tell
This script is saved as a simple script.
When I open the script with script editor,
    * if script editor was already open, the script opens normally and I can edit it
    * if script editor was not already open, then Address Book opens itself (and the script opens itself with script editor)
What explains the opening of Address Book ?
What can I do to avoid this auto-opening of Address Book ?
    Thanks for your help,
    Nicolas

You were right, the script will not compile. (there are some instruction between the "tell" and the "end tell" lines)
There are a couple of solutions to that one.
The first is that the script will compile if you're only using standard commands like 'activate', 'quit', etc. inside the tell block - these commands are universal, supported by all applications, and therefore you don't need the application dictionary.
If you are using application-specific commands, though, then you can provide the Script Editor a hint as to which dictionary to use via the using terms from command.
This tells the compiler which application dictionary to use when compiling the script, but it shouldn't affect opening the script. If you're only targeting one application and don't mind this workaround, it could be your solution:
    -- here's our target application
    set appName to "Address Book"
     -- let's target it
    tell application appName
-- now provide the compiler a hint as to which application dictionary to use
using terms from application "Address Book"
        -- commands go here
      end using terms from
    end tell
When it comes to compile the script, AppleScript will use the application in the using terms from statement instead of the (unknown) application in the tell statement.

  • Address Book opens at Startup

For several days now, my Address Book application opens at startup to the first vCard in my address book. I have not added any software or new widgets in some time. This just started to happen. I read through previous threads which indicated that the address book widget could be opening it. I disabled it and the problem still exists. I have repaired permissions and even disabled all widgets and it still opens at startup. Is there something else opening the application at startup? Any suggestions?

  • Address Book opens when Mails does

Every time I open Mail, 9 out of 10 times Address Book opens with it.
This has been going on for weeks now and it really starts to irritate me.
Anyone else having the same problem? I would appreciate any solution.
    Thanks

I just noticed that when I quit Address Book and Mail stays open for a while, Address Book starts up again just a few minutes later.

  • Address Book Opens Automatically and will not close (even with Force Quit)

The address book automatically opens at times and I cannot close it. Even with a force quit, I cannot close it. It takes up over 80% of CPU cycles when it opens automatically. Any thoughts or suggestions?
    Thanks
    Robby

This is happening to me too. Has occurred on MBP 17" about six or seven times over the past couple of weeks. Have not been able to replicate it. But recently suspect that it may be related to auto syncing and/or syncing my iPhone 3G.
    Anyone else have an idea?

  • Can Address Book open to default account?

I am just trying to move from Outlook 2011 to Mail/Address Book/iCal.  I noticed that each time I open Address Book, it defaults to all of my accounts combined (exchange address books and mobile me, etc.).  I usually only want to use and search one particular account's addresses.  Is there any way to force Address Book to open to my default account?  It is current set to my main Exchange account.

    Hi Matt,
I'm trying to figure this out also. So far, I haven't been able to figure out how. All contacts are sync'd but not in groups. Hopefully, someone will have a suggestion.

  • When I receive an email, Address Book opens

Over the last few days, I've noticed that the Address Book app opens up everytime I receive an email in the Mail app.  Anyone ideas why this is happening or what I can do to fix it?

Back up all data if you haven’t already done so. Before proceeding, you must be sure you can restore your system to the state it’s in now.
Select all your mailboxes, and then select Mailbox ▹ Export Mailbox from the Mail menu bar. Export the mailboxes to the Desktop folder.
Make a note of the settings for all your Mail accounts – everything you'd need to reconstruct the settings from scratch. Quit Mail.
In the Finder, hold down the option key and select Go ▹ Library from the menu bar. Move the following items from the folder that opens to the Trash (some may not exist):
    Caches/com.apple.mail
    Saved Application State/com.apple.mail.savedState
Leave the Finder window open for now.
Relaunch Mail and test. If the problem is solved, you’re done. Delete the exported mailboxes. Otherwise, quit Mail and move these items from the open Library folder to the Desktop:
    Mail
    Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
    Preferences/com.apple.mail.searchhistory.plist
(Note: you are not moving the Mail application. You’re moving a folder named “Mail.”)
Relaunch Mail. It will behave as if you were setting it up for the first time. Go through the setup process with one of your accounts, using the information you noted earlier. Test. Same problem?
If there’s no improvement, quit Mail again and put back the items you moved to the Desktop, replacing any newer ones that may have been created in their place. You don’t need to replace the items you moved to the Trash.
If the issue is resolved, recreate the rest of your Mail settings, then import your mailboxes, delete the items on the Desktop, and close the Finder window.

  • ADDRESS BOOK OPENS IN BACKGROUND WHEN DASHBOARD OPENS

When I open Dashboard from the dock, it also opens my Address Book in the background. When I close Dashboard, the Address book closes. Does anyone know why and how to correct this?

Well guys, by listing the widgets I have, I figured out that I have the Address Book widget in dashboard. So, obviously, that's why it was opening Address Book when I pulled up Dashboard. Duh......
At least your request made me think Thanks for your time.....have a good day!

  • Address Book opening in French

    Hello
Address book is opening in French on my 12" ibook. How do I change it to English?
I've just started using iSync for the first time, with an old sony K750i, could this be something to do with it?
    Thanks!
    Gary

Create a new Finder window and click on the Applications item in the sidebar. From here, select the Address Book application. Choose Get Info from the File menu and uncheck everything except English under Languages. If English doesn't appear in the list, reinstall Address Book from the Tiger installation disk, using Pacifist if necessary, and then run the combo updater for your version of Mac OS X.

  • Address Book opens blank and nonfunctional

Here's what the window looks like:
    http://www.pbase.com/strangeghost/image/73357438
None of my addresses are viewable, though mail can still pull them in as though nothing is wrong at all. I've tried deleting the Address Book plists and relaunching the app, and replacing the address book app with a copy from another mac where it's working normally. Nothing has affected its abnormal behavior in the least.
I'm running a G5 iMac, OSX 10.4.8 with all updates in place. My system is running entirely normally otherwise.
    Any help or ideas?

Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all filesystem issues, if any, proceed as follows:
    1. Open /Applications/Utilities/Console.
    2. From the File menu, choose either Open Console Log, or Open System Log, or both, so that Console displays the contents of both system.log and console.log.
    3. In the Finder, go to /Applications/ and open Address Book by double-clicking on it. Look at the bottom of the Console windows for messages that might be written there as a result. They may provide some clues.
In the meanwhile, take a look at the following article, in case this is a font issue:

  • Address Book: open groups in separate windows

Is it possible open Address Book groups in separate windows? It is a real pain to have to go back and forth from a "Group" to "All" to check who is in a group or not in a group. It would be so nice to have one window with All contacts and another with a Group right next to it to be able to compare and manage the members of a group. Any ideas?
    Thanks very much.

If you select a contact card then hold down the alt key the groups that the contact is in will be highlighted.

  • Address Book opens after quitting

This problem came about a few months ago and it has gotten to the point that I just can't handle that I don't know how to solve it.
My address book is not set to open up when the computer starts up, yet, when i open it to grab some addresses or numbers and go to close it, it will close and reopen but only in the BG, not as a new window. I haven't been able to find the catalyst but when I restart, it's fine until i open address book again.
Weird, i know, but I couldn't find anyone else online that was having this same issue and searching the forums didn't prove to show anything. I would love to hear any and all of your ideas!

I have been having the same problem for several months now. Some days I never see it, others I see it a few times throughout the day. It opens on it's own in the background, sometimes hidden. If I close Address Book, it just opens back up immediately.
I thought it must be one of these old sync apps I used to try and sync Google to my Mac, but I checked and none of them are running (and today I just removed them completely). I see nothing in the console/logs to indicate anything going on. I've cleared the log display and forced AB to close, and as it reopens, nothing appears. You'd think at least some sort of error "Hey, App XYZ was using that!" would show up.
Today in an effort to nail this down I removed gsync from my pref pane (though I think that was only for calendars, and wouldn't connect anyway) and disabled iSync which I had added my old phone to but haven't run in ages since then. I don't know where else to look.
