Address Book Question (possible move from Exchange Server to Mac Server)

I currently run an Exchange Server. What I like the most about it is that no matter what I use to access my e-mail account, I have my calendar and contacts. Plus everything that I do from any method of access shows up in a different method of access.
So the question is, if I go to the Mac Server and run mail services with webmail, can I access my calendar, contacts, inbox, sent items, subfolders, etc. from my Mac laptop, and then also from a foreign machine that I use to access the webmail? If I went into webmail, would I have all my contacts available? My calendar? Could I check my sent items or subfolders?
Pointers to relevant documentation would be a plus.
Thanks very much in advance.
Jeff

you can piece most/all of it together... but it's certainly not as integrated the way exchange is...
If your main concern is sharing mail folders among several machines and with webmail, this is easy to handle with imap... you could share sent, inbox, etc.
Shared Address Books can be setup with LDAP.. it takes some work though and is a far cry from Exchange...
If you are a tinkerer and your staff can put-up with the tinkering, you could piece many of the features together... but if you are happy with, and use, the exchange features- I'd stick with it.

  • Inter-Org Mailbox moves from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013

    G'Day All,
Is it possible to move Exchange 2007 mailboxes to Exchange 2013 in a different forest? Both environment has all the required patches and service packs.
There is a two way trust, and I don't want to introduce Exchange 2010 CAS in the source forest if I don't need to.
I have read the following article http://msexchangeguru.com/2013/11/03/e2013crossforestmigration/ but it is not clear what is the required to setup in Exchange 2007.  I have read many other articles to do with Exchange 2013 mailbox moves, endpoints,
etc, but non of them is clear of how does it work having Exchange 2007 source.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Address Book's window moves down 3 pixels every time you start the app.

I want to confirm that this is not an isolated issue and to make a bit more noise because Apple didn't fix this in the 10.5.3 update. The problem is that the Address Book's window moves down 3 pixels from it's previous position every time you start the app. This only happens if the Address Book window is sized vertically larger than minimum. Now, each time you quit and start Address book it will reposition it's window 3 pixels down. After some time and many Quit/Starts your window will end up at the bottom of your screen and even size itself down to vertical minimum. If you have it positioned so that the bottom of the window protrudes off the screen then it will continue until it reaches the top bar of the window. It's not a serious bug I know. But, for the way I use Address Book it's annoying to have to reposition it's window to align with my other apps which I have open aligned/arranged at startup. It's just that all the other Leopard apps don't do this. Maybe it's a feature added to avoid patent infringement. Who knows! Apple I know you have bigger fish to fry but would you please clean this up.
To test first start Address Book and size your Address Book window vertically larger than its smallest size. Now repeatedly quit and start the Address Book application. Watch your Address Book window migrate down 3 pixels from it's previous position every time you start. Have fun, watching Address Book falls from grace. Good thing it doesn't migrate off screen completely!

    Hey! It works! Nice catch
Gee, now if the rest of Leopard would work properly they would even have the time to fix this

    Make selective backup
save only data that you need to be saved.
After that on the device go to Options - Security Options - General Settings
Hit the menu button and select "Wipe handheld"
It will wipe the device memory.
After that restore the saved information to the device.

  • My copy of Address Book App was erased from Maverick. How can I replace it?

Address Book App was deleted from the iMac running Maverick. My other iMac runs Snow Leopard and that version of Address Book 5.0.3. won't run on Maverick. Where can I d/l the software?
And how can I copy in the addresses from 5.0.3?
    Appreciate the help.

I bought this iMac and another from a non-prof group that got a gift of newer Macs. The addresses in Address Book were theirs. I thought I was deleting them, but deleted the entire address app. This is the only machine I have running Mavericks. Others are on Snow Leopard.
I do not have the Mavericks install disk but I'll ask for it tomorrow.
PeachMac offered to install Address Book and any other system software for $69. But that's still not my contact list of 200 or so.
    I'm investigating resources.
First I have to send my broken, no-boot MacBookPro to Florida for a motherboard or whatever it needs. I have a Snow Leopard Time Machine back-up for that. I doubt there's a way to Restore that back-up to a Mavericks machine. Apple ain't that kind.

There is no such Trojan or other malware known today that will do that using OS X nor has there ever been one. The most probable explanation is that somebody hacked into your e-mail account on the server, so you should change that password to something stronger right away. If it had come from your Mac then there would almost certainly be copies of those messages in your Sent Mail mailbox.

  • Contact Pictures in Address Book Vanish When dragged to Exchange Server ???

Forgive me in advance if this has been solved and then please direct me to the right link - however this problem is really becoming a deal breaker for me because so much of my intranet software pulls from contact images
I have a brand new Macbook Pro clean installation and after setting it up I linked it to my 07 Exchange server and pulled down my contacts it worked flawlessly and i thought all was well - Every field including the notes section and pictures transferred.
Then when I edited pictures in address book contacts under the on my mac section and copied them to my exchange address book the contact transfers but the picture is missing - after the initial transfer of contacts from my exchange server it happens vice versa also if i take a contact on my exchange server with a picture and drag it to address book (in the address book application) it deletes the picture
Alot of my applications pull from my exchange contact database and I rely heavily when replying to calls or messages at looking at the picture when it pops up on my screen
Apple support said they are sort of aware of this issue and there is a work around but they dont know what it is ??? and recommended that i ask on the forum
Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated Im at my wits end or does address book just not work right ? - Oh and one more thing when clicking on a contact on the exchange server from address book i can edit a contact but i cant edit the picture field either
    Someone tell me something'
    Thanks

I'm having the exact same problem... worked fine until I did a clean install Last week.
anyone figured out a fix or workaround ?

  • Address Book Question -- IS THIS POSSIBLE ??

Is "appending" information possible to address book ? Or like a way to add info from one address book to another with out it deleting anything on the one getting updated OR with out making duplicates of the contact info(s) ????
Kinda like what we call a "incremintal back up". Like it is able to detect what is NEW info and ONLY save that to it while keeping all the old stuff on it.
    Let me explain --
I got a tower and a laptop. Address Book (obviously) on both.
Sometimes the one on my laptop gets some contact info added to it, while the one on my tower does not get that info added to it. OR vise versa.
I want to combine the two and not lose anything and NOT have to do it manually. Because alot of info has gone down on both recently.
But at the same time they both have alot of the SAME contacts on them because for a while I was trying to keep up with them and I was manually saving info, then putting it into the other. But recently things have gotten too far and I can not remember which has what, when..
I NEED to do a incremental save/back up to one of them FROM the other one (combine the both with out causeing duplicates, or with out loseing anything).....
    Please help.
    Thanks -

Cool, I guess thats good enough... It will get the job done the way I want, so THANKS ALOT Mike !!
    Problem solved.
I wish in the future though Apple makes it possible to do it how I was saying. Hook your laptop up via firewire to your tower, then Basically a one button click to "append only new info" from the laptops address book. No questions about what to do with duplicates, etc.... just update ALL NEW info. Don't touch old.
Thanks again though my friend, your reply was extremely valuable to me.

  • Address book card not updating from LDAP on server

I am running 10.5.6 on a MacBook and connecting to a 10.5.6 server. If I search the LDAP directory in Address Book and add a found card to my Address Book, it should update automatically with any changes - the box is ticked in the LDAP Preferences in Address Book.
The thing is, updates are not happening. I can connect to the server and searches come up with the information I want, but cards previously dragged to the Address Book from an earlier search never get updated.
    Any ideas, anyone?

    Hi,
If a new OAB is set as default, please check whether the OAB folder in the following path is the latest date in Exchange sever:
    a. OAB generated in Mailbox:
    \\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\ ExchangeOAB
    b. OAB distribution in Client Access:
    \\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\ClientAccess\OAB
If the OAB file is not generated, please collect any event logs in Mailbox server and provide your OAB virtual directory information for more troubleshooting. If the files in both of two folders are latest,
we can try the following steps in Outlook to download Offline Address Book:
    1. Delete the *.oab files in the following folders in local machine:
         \Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\Offline Address Books
    2. Create a new Outlook profile that uses Cached Exchange Mode.
    3. Start Outlook 2010 with this new profile.
    4. In the ribbon click Send / Receive, click
Send/Receive Groups and then click Download Address Book.
For more information about OAB downloading and updating, please refer to Q5 to Q20 in:

  • I am having trouble sending bulk emails (less than 100 at a time) on my gmail account using group names created from my address book.  I use Mail on my I-Mac.  When I try to send out a bulk email, the message shows up that my server can't send them, etc.

I am having trouble sending bulk emails from a Mail Group (less than 100 at a time) on my gmail account.  They come back saying the server can't recognize the data and try again with selected server or try later or edit message, all of which I have attempted a number of times, including re-booting the computer.  I am wondering if there is something wrong in my Address Book?  I have check Apple Preferences, and Mail Preferences and all seems in order.  I can send to any of the individual addresses, but not in a group.

  • Is there a way to use Apple Mail/Address Book/Calendar with a Microsoft Exchange Server that requires a client certificate ?

I have an Exchange server configured to require a client certificate. Is there a way to configure a certificate for Apple Mail/Address Book/Calendar ? There seems to be no option in the account settings to do that (in contrast to for example the IMAP settings).
    Any help highly appreciated !

I don't know. Try downloading the certificate and installing it in your keychain. See what happens.

  • Address Book can't synchronize with Exchange server using a domain prefix

I'm having problems attempting to use Address Book's built in "Synchronize with Exchange" feature. The issue seems to be that my company uses domains with their exchange server, so I login with a username like "domain/user" rather than just "user"
iSync finds my server if I just use the "user" login, but the server won't accept the login and I get a failed login error.
When I use the same server with my "domain/user" login I get this error:
"iSync couldn't connect to Exchange. Could not reach the server specified."
It seems that the "domain/" is fooling Address Book into altering the server URL to an invalid address. When I return to the preferences I see that it has changed the URL to http://www.server.com/exchange/domain/user
I've found a bunch of people on the web with this problem, but no solutions. Anyone have any ideas?

  • Importing into Address Book with Custom Fields from a Text File.

    Hello
I'm a teacher and like to create contacts for my students. The information that I want in each contact besides their name, email address and phone number are their
student id's, semester enrolled, class number and class title. For these four fields I create a "Custom" field with the appropriate names: "ID", "Term", "Course" and "Class" respectively.
All this information I can download from the school's server in a CSV file.
To import the information into Address Book, I choose "File -> Import -> Text File" and then select the CSV file that I downloaded. The import utility opens up correctly showing all the fields I would like to import, however, many of the fields are marked as "Do not import." When I click on that term to select my Custom fields, they do not show up. Is this a bug or "feature" of the Address Book? It seems to me that if you are allowed to create useful custom fields, you should be able to import data into them as well.
If I'm just ignorant of how to do this, I would appreciate some help. If there is no way to currently do this efficiently, it would be nice to have this feature added to the Address book in the near future.
    Thanks for your consideration,
    Gary

Thanks for posting your question and the reply from rojok...
I'm a teacher as well - in Entourage I was able to just copy a column of email addresses (say from an Excel spreadsheet, downloaded from the school's server here at U MD) and then create a group and simply paste that list into the group. Address Book makes you do the extra step of importing all the addresses first. (Note: Your last imported list of contacts in this manner shows up as "Last Import" in the groups lists column to the left in Address Book - so to add contacts to a Group there, you select that Last Import group, click once in that list column one contact, say, then select all of the list - then Command + A, for select all - then drag them all to your group you've made - i.e. "MySpringClassList"). This is NOT very intuitive I might add and incredibly cumbersome of a process.
To get around the customizable info I needed to import... I just chose options that I don't regularly use for those things I needed to import - i.e. student I.D., these I placed under "ICQ Other" - that way they're imported at least.
    Good luck,
    Andrew

  • Address book and calendar sync from Mac to Google

    Hi,
I have a HTC Desire phone and wish to sync my Contacts and Calendar items to it via Google.
I have pulled my Address Book and Calendar from my old p1i phone on to my old Power Book and exported these. I have then imported these onto my Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard.
I now want to sync these up to a Google account.
In my address I have ny contacts and also my girlfriend's. I wish to sync only my Contacts up to Google. Is this possible?
I have tried configuring iCal to sync with Google via calDAV but I am not seeing my Calendar entries in Google (or a way of doing a manual sync from Mac -> Google)
Apologies if these questions have been asked and answered previuosly.

  • Random Address Book Question

Apologies if I've posted in the wrong forum.  I am not quite sure where this question belongs.
My mother still uses the ancient Rolodex (see picture below) for her contact information.  I would like to transfer this information to her computer as an early birthday present.  I am hoping that some software or technique exists that can help me avoid the hours and misery of having to enter the names, addresses and numbers from each card ... there are thousands.
Ideally (and I mean that in the strongest sense of the word), I am looking for a program or service or other mechanism that would
take the information from a scan of a card (or cards)*
    convert that information to text
    and then either
              (a) provide me the data to copy and paste onto a new cards in the Address Book application or in Outlook, or my Google Address Book.
              OR
              (b) Magically create the cards for me. (Obviously this would be the preferred method in my idyllic computer world.)
    * The only reason I mention scanning the cards is because it is the only way I know of to get the information from the paper card onto a computer.  If there is another method please feel free to tell me.
While it does not show, I have attempted to ask this question in the least confusing way possible.  Any leads would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you very much.
    A Rolodex ------------->

You would need a scanner with OCR (optical character regocnition) software. It scans the text and makes an educated guess as to what the letter is and types that into a doc for you. It works best when you are scanning typed text. If it is handwriting it will be pretty spotty getting the letters right. Either way this will be very labor intensive because you will still need to correct any mistakes you find, and it will only save the step of actually reading the cards yourself and typing them.
The other thing I can think of is when you said service. You could just hire a temp agency to have someone do it for you, paid by the hour. Or maybe a school job wanted board.
But no magic to create the cards I know of!
